Bo's made a career out of debunking the supernatural. His eager fans regularly tune in to discover what he'll disprove next. And Bo really should know better than to let them pick where he goes.

It's supposed to be a routine visit to a so-called haunted house. But instead of dust and rats, Bo finds Everil: A strange, beautiful man who faints into his arms.

Which, fine. Weirder things have happened. Except the man claims to be a kelpie. And Bo's soulbond. (Which explains why Bo can taste him, snowmelt and frozen grass, from across the room.)

Bo should just walk away. Believing in magic has only ever hurt him. But he's always been too stubborn to take the easy route.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗹

Everil's spent a century hiding from the Faerie realm and his abusive former soulbond. Now the man is back, and Faerie law makes his claim on Everil's soul inescapable.

Which means Everil absolutely cannot give his soul to the brash, kind human who barges into his home. Unfortunately, his soul isn't keen on listening to him.

Everil's ex will kill Bo if he finds him. To keep the human safe, Everil must break their bond. Only Bo rejects Everil's every attempt to protect him, offering rough reassurance in turn.

A proper fae would insist. But Everil's always failed at being proper. And Bo's honey-sweet soul and wonder are impossible to resist. Despite the perils of homicidal dryads and duplicitous friends, Everil agrees to run. With Bo. Not from him.

Everil is determined to protect his new soulbond. But he soon finds that the true risk comes with the lingering taste of Bo's kiss.

✨ARC REVIEW✨
But holy sh!t if this book hurt me and soothed me in equal parts.
Faeries are ruthless f*ckers.
Bo and Everil meet and it's instantaneous, they are soul mates. But my sweet broken kelpie, Everil, has been wounded so deep he isn't even contemplating the possibility of a happy future with human Bo. Thank f*ck Bo won't take no for an answer, and with the help of Talia -Everil's ward and gate to Faerie-, he's determined to win the kelpie over.
The slow burn slayed me. They need to be close to the other, and all the gentle touches were perfection.
They also went through so much, there was so much despair and hopelessness. But also so much to look forward too.
I loved how Everil is portrayed as an abuse survivor. He is strong and capable but has been made to feel less than. And it broke my heart how he felt undeserving. But little by little, he opens up and will do anything for Bo. And I mean ANY F*CKING THING.
I love how Bo has this take-no-bullshit attitude that serves him well in Faerie, even when he is at a disadvantage.
And sentient Fae lands? Sign me tf up.
They're put through the grinder but their HEA is AMAZING.
The writing is so beautiful and heartfelt and poetic.
Loved this book!

Okay but damnnnn I did not expect this book to affect me like it did! Talk about emotional, there’s just something about touch starved, hurt/comfort that hits me right in the feels. This was such a fun, complex, unique story.. it is so different from other fantasy/fae books I’ve read. The chemistry between Bo and Ever was so sweet it just warmed my heart, I didn’t want it to end! These two will stay with me for years to come. I am obsessed with this world and lore the writers have created. I really hope we get to see more of it!

Oh! And the writing style was phenomenal, the authors have such a unique voice, the way they write is almost reminiscent of fairytales, it brings you into their amazing world effortlessly.

“Centuries he’d spent carving away the unwanted pieces of himself. Learning to be what Nimai wanted. Tame enough. Broken enough. Bo wanted him like this. Not brought to heel, controlled and well spoken. Not effortlessly answering unvoiced expectations. Wild.”

The writing and world building is very beautiful. I can only describe it as fae-like. To me to me Bo was looking through human eyes and narrating as a human and Everil was looking through Fae eyes and narrating as a fae. I don’t know if this makes any sense whatsoever but this is how it felt to me. Very different perspectives depending on who was speaking and thinking.

Bo and Talia were my favorite characters. Hands down. Bo reminds me a lot of myself, just speaks his mind (although he probably has more confidence than I do). I appreciated Talia’s humor, she brought a lot of levity to this book for me.

Everil frustrated me. A lot. I wanted him to stand up for himself. I wanted him to be clearer with Bo. I wanted him to let Bo make his own decisions. I was disappointed throughout the majority of the book.

A lot of this book is miscommunication and trust issues with oneself, but at some point I wanted them to overcome these a lot sooner than they did.

***ARC Review***

This is my honest and voluntary review for the ARC I received.

This book is intricate and complex. I love all of the folklore elements. (The Denizens of Faerie at the back of the book is especially helpful if you are unfamiliar with any of the fae). The writing in this book is really interesting and I felt captivated by Bo and Everil’s story.

Everil underwent a traumatic past with his previous soulbound. (Nimai is a real jerk). He breaks Protocol and forms a soulbound with a human (Bo). Bo works at debunking the supernatural. Everil is a kelpie and he has been put down for so long, it takes him a while to understand that Bo wants him exactly as he is (once Bo realizes it).

Everil has not been touched in over a century and he is all for Bo taking things a step further between them. Bo helps Ever to see being a kelpie in a positive and accepting light instead of one that tries to break him down or tame him. Bo doesn’t want Ever to change, and that bit of information will help Ever out in the long run.

Bo and Ever have an intense connection. They have a strong emotional bond and a passionate physical one as well. Both MCs have things that they are struggling with that the other one helps them to overcome. Despite the obstacles put in Bo and Ever’s path, (that three year deal was so unfair) they find a way to defeat their foes and grasp their HEA. These two are really sweet together!

Talia and Declan were great characters in this book as well. If you are a fan of fantasy or paranormal books, then this book is one you should check out!

Wow what a beautiful book 😭 it will tear you apart then put you back together with tenderness. This is a hurt/comfort, soul bond, found family romance.

Delicately written with all the grace and imagery from a book of poetry. I was going to pick a line to put on this review but I honestly can't decide on one, they are all so vivid and beautiful.

This is a beautiful and emotional book that will make you feel some kind of way. Our characters are strong and scarred and all the more alive for it. Bo and Everil have a whimsical and tender chemistry that feels like a warm hug. I loved them and I loved reading the words these authors put together about them. Hands down the best part of this book and an extremely elegant and descriptive take on a romance. Even if you don't normally read these tropes, I'd honestly read the book for the prose alone. Loved it.

An Embrace of Citrus & Snow is the first book in the Fallen for a Fae series. This is the story of Bo who debunks the supernatural and Everil a kelpie. This book is just something wonderful. It hurts and enthralls you at the same time. The characters are just amazing with complex personalities. The world building is outstanding. The plot kept my attention and pulled me in. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read.

So this is the 2nd book I have read from these authors and like the first one, I really enjoyed it. The first thing I HAVE to gush about is the way these authors write their characters. I say this in the nicest way possible and not directed toward any author in particular, but I feel like in the majority of the books I have read in the last few years, the actual art of crafting a character is somewhat lost. The plot comes first, and fleshing out the characters seems to be secondary. Half the time when I'm reading dual pov, the mc's perspectives and inner monologue are so similar that I have to check whose pov I am even reading from. That is one million percent not the case with this book.
The MCs (including Talia, their little sassy edgelord pseudo-daughter that is present for the majority of the book) are SO likable, I can't even express. They meet at like 7% in and I was already so incredibly sad for Ever and just wanted Bo to hurry the hell up and get there. Once he does, their dynamic is immaculate. These mcs are absolutely perfect for each other, and it's so cathartic reading their interactions together. The hurt/comfort is off the charts, so enjoyable and I was just immediately super invested in their relationship and wanted a happy ending for them so badly.
I also want to be really clear in that I know basically nothing about mythology or fae folklore or any of that, so a lot of the references about oaths and laws and rituals were a bit lost on me. They do a good job of explaining the basics of this stuff organically as it's happening but I could tell I was missing a lot of nuances probably.
Also there was a cameo of Wyte, our adored and beloved bunny boy from the debut novella, at one point during the story and I just wanted to bring him home with me and love him forever. I cannot explain how thrilled I was to get a little wink to him. Call me obsessed, that's fine.
But yeah overall, the book is really, really good ESPECIALLY if you are into fantasy, folklore, hurt/comfort, soulbond type stuff, all that. The writing style is really special and unique. Everything is very whimsical and fantastical and emotionally charged. If you're looking for quick burn smut and slapstick humor, this ain't it. Also the end resolution to the conflict was very satisfying and surprising. In other words, highly recommend.

I wanted to like this book, but … damn… the slog of trying to get through this book that I just endured….

There is a point where poetic language crosses a line from something that evokes some kind of beautiful emotion into “wait, what is happening? What are they talking about?” And for me, this book was way past that line. It seemed like nearly Every sentence was steeped in allegory and it kept me from getting immersed because instead I kept asking myself “wait, what did I just read.” I also feel that the intensity of the imagery rich language was used in place of solid character development.

I concede that all of this might have been totally purposeful by the authors. The way the story ran in circles is very on brand for the fae and the language games they play. I think it’s possible that they were trying to evoke a feeling of uncertainty and confusion in the reader, and it is just my preference that I didn’t care for it.

All and all I wouldn’t say it was BAD, but for me I don’t want to have to work for it when I am reading romance novels. I just want to be sucked in, and I couldn’t get into this book. Someone else might disagree.

{An Embrace Of Citrus & Snow}
Arc review by Jessie Melka
__________•__________

“Condensation on glass, cold lemonade and warm, heavy air. The drone of bees by the riverbank. Wildflower honey, dripping from the comb. Vanilla ice cream, melting over fingers and licked away by laughing mouths.”

SHORT RESUME START:

Bo spent his life correcting the hurt and wrong. His parents has done to people and himself proving that the supernatural is just imagination but as a challenge he sent to a little town where there is rumours to be a dark horse who eats people and a haunted house with a beautiful man in the window

Everil has been situated in the human world just beyond the vale hiding from his future and his gruesome past when it’s finally his turn to take over protecting the gate starved For power in the wait for what’s to come someone finally knock on the door, but it’s not who were expected

An accidental southbound to a kelpie Bo is determinator to help however he can in the situation now that his believes has been proven but love and lust is so close by, can they really stand together even when the protocol stands against them?

SHORT RESUME END:

My extremely jumpy thoughts while reading——

It’s so fascinating the way the narrative shift from proper to improper language from Bo to Everil you can really feel the age difference between them like Everil is so proper and well spoken where Bo is all fuck this and that (:::::

While reading, I really noticed how Everil tends to talk in circles. He really takes every opportunity he can to stall as much as you can. I just wanted to hop in between the pages and scream at him to get to the point.

It was extremely hard for me to read in Everil’s pov he’s been hurt so much in the past and everything that his ex did to him. It just screams abuse from the start. I feel so bad for him and I really just wanted to give him a hug. You can really feel while reading how much his past has impacted on him.

All my love for talia seriously she was an amazing character and had so much energy and really did the plot well to have her there i’m so glad for her that she gets to have these two amazing self proclaimed dads they’re gonna do really well

“Sex didn’t feel like this. Wasn’t shivering vines on an altar of moss and stone. A bright song that twisted through him: snowmelt and river mist, old earth and sunlight. Beneath it all, something tremulous and eager. An ancient, hungry power.”

Seriously, S E R I O I S L Y let’s talk about The trials smut HOLY MOTHER OF A WOW WHAT THE EFFING FUCK JUST HAPPENED that was some delicate delicious chemistry going on in this particular setting and the orange trees. Oh my God guys this is so sweet.

I like the comparisons to good things always comes in three and all the words that they repeat three times like the trials

Am I silly for totally shipping Declan+Robin as if they are going to be a thing all I have to say is yes thank you we get the Epilogue from Declan’s perspective and I gotta say he has some interesting sites to him that I would love for the authors to explore

“But Faerie murmured while Ever held him beneath the rapids. Sunlight and ice. Life and death. Bo and Ever. Couldn’t. But he did. Faerie taking. Overflowing. Drawing it out of him, his lips parted in a soundless cry. And summer gave himself to winter with a spill of liquid heat.”

I would say I had to give this A 4 stars review I would’ve liked to give it five but since I spend over half of the book, wondering what they were talking about I had come to this substantial point I do give all my love to the authors which did an amazing job at writing this lovely book. It has some of the most exquisite writing. I have read in a long time and I’m very fond of that.

There is it’s not much I didn’t like about this book. It has great charisma but it’s very hard to read. If you’re not completely understanding of the society around it, lots can be said but love and connection is nothing that is missing

If you want to dive deep into a world of imagination and fairies then I would definitely recommend this for you. There was a lot of aspects of abuse being spoken about and how the characters deal with their lives and their tragic stories. If this sounds interesting to you go ahead and take it out.

This was such a marvelous story! When I started reading this I wasn't sure what to expect, I was hoping to be blown away, and I was.

The writing of this story completely captivated me from beginning to end, and everything in between. I was immediately pulled into this world full of fae, kelpies, childlike gates, vivid scenery, and detailed characters. I don't think I've ever read anything that was written similarly to the way this one was. This book was full of intricate details describing not only the scenery around the characters, but there were so many details describing each and every character that appeared on the page as well.

Everil and Bo are so incredible, they both are unique and beautiful. Flawed and broken, yet caring and protective. Both men have their own struggles, their own flaws, but they work through them together. My favorite part of this story is how prominent communication is between the two characters, they always make sure to check in with one another and to verbalize their wants and needs. I think that's so important in any relationship, both fictional and in real life. These two characters really portrayed that message quite well. Even when they messed up and didn't communicate, they made sure to own up to their mistakes. They acknowledged that they both made mistakes, and they made sure to try their best to ensure it wouldn't happen again.

I adore Talia! She's so fun and quirky, and between her and Bo, they'll get Everil to follow less protocol over time. It made me smile reading about her childlike wonder about everything she's seen in movies, it was so cute reading about her exploring the human world. I also liked Declan's character, he was described as a punk rock man who sees death. The description isn't why I liked him but it's because of his personality, he's a bit cynical, sharp, brash, but also full of humor and he truly cares about Everil's happiness. I'm wondering if he'll eventually get his own story, I hope he will!! All in all this was a wonderful story and I'm excited to see where this series will go next!!

Friends, I am literally obsessed with this book! Devious fae that’ll rip your heart, mind and throat out? Healing from trauma? Sentient fae magic that has a crush on you and your lover? A found family including a teenager with unlimited magical powers? This book has it all!

Bo is an online sensation who debunks supernatural myths and trespasses in abandoned houses… although the latest house he visits (one with rumours of a deadly ghost-stallion that haunts the river) isn’t as abandoned as he’d thought!

Everil is fae, a Kelpie to be exact, and he has been running from his murderous, manipulative ex, Nimai. When a human crashes into his house and into his arms, he’s unable to prevent a soulbond from springing up between them. Now Everil has to try to work out how to keep Bo safe from Nimai, as well as his teenaged Gate - a being of immense power he has guardianship over.

I’m literally overflowing with positive things to say about this book! The writing is so flowing and lyrical - I was completely immersed, it reads like a fairytale and was so beautiful. I enjoyed the fae lore and meeting all the different types of fae - so many of them were devious as heck and seeing their hierarchy was fascinating. The faerie realm was just perfection and the fact it was sentient was the icing on the cake - especially when it was ✨encouraging✨ Everil and Bo to get together 😏

A big theme of this book is healing - Bo from his traumatic childhood and Everil from his abusive relationship with Nimai. They both make mistakes and hurt each other, but both learn from it, discuss it and move forward. They are both so big on consent and learning what each other need (especially Bo learning to see past Everil’s learned responses from his abuse). I just love both characters so much and was rooting for them the whole time 💕

Read An Embrace of Citrus & Snow for:
✨ Kelpie Fae x Human
✨ Healing from abuse
✨ Accidental soulbond
✨ So much cuddling, affection, softness
✨ Hurt/Comfort
✨ Forced proximity
✨ Found family
✨ Savage fae who kill without remorse
✨ Fae court politics

Thank you so much to the authors for an ARC of this book! It’s available on 15th October 2024 and it’s a must-read for any fans of Fae stories!

Wow, what a complex, emotional journey! I say journey, because that’s exactly how it feels - like a captivating tale of unexpected twists and turns that will leave you breathless. It’s not for the faint of heart; this story exhibits the best and the worst of the fae, equal parts delightful and gruesome.

When Bo approaches the seemingly abandoned house that’s sure to be a hit with his viewers, he’s already decided what will happen. So, being greeted by the ethereal Everil is a complete surprise. An even bigger surprise is the accidental soul bond that slams into place when they touch.

Everil & Bo’s connection is so raw, and from the moment their bond slips into place, it’s an emotional roller coaster of want, need, and obligation. Their pasts are messy and traumatic, each bringing a unique set of problems and impossibility to the table. Their conflict and tension starkly contrasts how they soothe and strengthen each other, making it even harder to watch them fight their true desires. Never did I dream I’d be rooting for a human to fall in love with a murderous kelpie, but here we are.

The romance between them is a slow burn, and when I say slow, at times it feels glacial. The build and anticipation is compounded by proximity, and I love their need to cuddle and touch. The way it soothes and fulfills something inside them - particularly Bo - is so damn poetic, making the payoff totally worth it.

From the very beginning, this story kept me guessing. Sure, some plotlines were easier to anticipate - like the inevitable romance between Everil & Bo - but the *how* of it will have you on the edge of your seat. The fae lore is amazing, creating twists and complications that slowly unfold as if unwrapping the most precious gift. I enjoyed the wide range of characters and mythological beings, including their unique peculiarities.

The writing in this story is gorgeous, descriptive, and expressive, definitely befitting an elaborate tale of the fae. It wasn’t a quick read for me, possibly because I went back to reread quite a few passages for comprehension. Regardless, this story can't be rushed -- it's best savored and enjoyed.

First I want to say that the writing for this story was amazing, as were the characters and world building. That being said I think the writing style is actually what pulled me out of the story at times. The story is 3rd person dual pov, which is not my favorite but not a deal breaker when reading.

Bo’s perspective was okay, I followed it pretty easily; however Everil’s perspective was harder for me to follow, it seemed very proper which is totally fine but some of the wording I just didn’t follow.

I felt it was a slow burn other the initial cuddling after their bond is in place. Everil is a bit frustrating, even if he meant well, and will do literally anything for Bo. Bo is pretty blunt, but also very caring. Talia was quite funny, I enjoyed Talia’s humor throughout the book.

I will say they fought hard for their very much deserved happily ever after.

Thank you to the lovely authors for sending me this ARC!

This is such a pretty book!

I'm so in love with Everil and Bo. The dual perspective works perfectly to show the differences between these beautiful opposites! Ever is such a sad but sweet boy and Bo is the absolute best combo of grumpy and sunshine all in one. I can't decide which of them I love more!

Despite the epic amount of drama the plot offers, there's plenty of love and fun to balance it out. I laughed and cried in equal measures.

There’s also plenty of spice, which is always a bonus! There’s one particular intimate scene that’s extra fun though…

I always have a favourite side character in a book and Talia might just be one of the very best ever!

Overall the book is so beautifully written and I honestly could read 26284839 more pages about these gorgeous silly boys!

Thank you for the eARC!

If this book has taught me two things it is that:
1. I do not have a very wide knowledge of fae lore (a fact I must endeavour to correct)
2. You simply cannot overuse the word 'fuck' (looking at you, Bo)

This book has been already been marketed absolutely perfectly:
Hurt x Comfort
Opposites attract
Accidental soulbound
Found family (side note: Talia is a national treasure)
Sweet n Spicy

AEoC&S provides a wonderfully tender love story between two polar opposites (my favourite), whilst still managing to navigate themes of toxic relationships, abuse, past trauma and neglect with love and care. A story that balances the heavy topics with the fun fantasy romance I wanted.

Oh, and there's a flesh-eating horse.

Thoughts:
Personally, I found this story to be unique. This is the first time I have read about a kelpie, which, if I'm being honest, is not something I really had any knowledge about before reading this book. An Embrace of Citrus and Snow is about mythology inspired characters and topics. When different side characters appeared while reading, I did find myself looking up their appearance because I have zero imagination.

Bo is human and definitely is one of the characters who provides the humor in the relationship and in the story. I found him to be understanding and patient towards Ever, which is what Ever needed from his soulbond. He also deserves recognition for the reaction he had after finding out he was soulbond to a person who then later Bo finds out is a kelpie. Yeah, he couldn't believe his eyes and his good luck that he finally has proof that supernatural life does exist!

Ever is a kelpie, and he has been through some really horrible situations with his previous soulbond. It got to the point that even though it was physically painful for him to break the bond, it was better than staying tied to them. When Ever met Bo because of his previous soulbond Ever, it was not easy for him to voice his feelings. Things that are 'normal' to everyone else are not to him. Ever tends to overthink a lot of things, and it's definitely not his fault he wants to be perfect in the way he behaves without being too little or too much. So, to him, it was a constant which is the right way to not drive your soulbond away or yet be there for them without being overbearing?

The sensations and emotions were writing poetically. There are plenty of descriptive senses from taste, touch, smell, and overall the visual of what the soulbond relationship and how it meant and felt to Ever and Bo.

I would definitely describe this story as complex, and it has many layers to it. Once you finish one part of the story, you move on to the next, and it just keeps building on more and more. What I find fascinating yet also problematic in some ways (not negative, just an observation) is that each fantasy book the world has different rules and magical aspects that make it unique to the story. Which very much applies to this book.

Not only are the magical beings new to me, but also many rules they follow are something new, and it makes Faerie different. It's honestly a whole other world (I mean, duh 😅) where the order or things is important. And because of this, I did have to read certain things multiple times to truly understand the significance. Also, I kept reminding myself to read such a story I have to go in with a semi blank canvas. The previous knowledge I may or may not have had will probably not actually help with this book because everything will be new and will change for this specific world and characters. Like I said, I found it extremely fascinating indeed (at least for me).

Even though this book was long, I truly enjoyed it. It was something different from what I usually tend to read, and that's great because I love reading new things. Therefore, if you are looking for a unique complex story with layers of world building and mythical creatures, definitely check this book out.

Quotes:
💬 He isn’t who I should want. And I’ll be thought a fool for my decision. But he’s allowed me more happiness in three days than I’ve known in my three centuries. So yes, I’ll give up eternity for more of him.
💬 “This is what I taste and smell and think of.” This. An icy river feeding the roots of ancient trees. Air warm and laden with the scents of honey and citrus. Them together. And so very suited. “Sweet Bo,” Everil murmured. Just that. “More to you than meets the eye, kelpie. My pretty, dangerous, secretly hilarious Ever of the river in the deep woods.”
💬 “I’m discovering that the experience of a soulbond is more colored by perception than I understood.” Everil breathed deeply, taking in the scent of moss and sweet air. “You find more in me than I believed to be there.”

(Dear Rowan Amaris…is this a Twilight reference? I have to know for my own sanity 🤔)

Anyway, I liked this book a lot more than I initially expected to. I think it is really hard to write stories about the Fae/Faeries/Folk. This book did a good job of introducing the world, but I will say that there was a lack of world building that made me feel disconnected from the world, characters, and plot as a whole. I felt like we got caught up in the whimsy of the world without giving explanations or setting the scene. Things just happen because they could, and that’s a bit hard to take in as a reader.

This book was a really fun read though. Everil and Bo were very sweet together. Their romance was cute, and I liked that they grew and developed as characters. I will say there were a couple of loose ends or random things that just seemed to happen that had no follow through… like I totally expected a character to come back after they were “done dirty” for trying to “help” only to never show up again, so that plot point made no sense to me other than for things to just happen. Also the book had a couple funny moments, but I felt like the tone of the book was more serious overall, so the random comedy was a little jarring at times. 👀

Also, Bo was so silly and fun, but I was losing my mind at the beginning with the amount of “fucks” and sentence cutoffs he had. He mellowed out and became more lovable to me as time went on. I like Everil as a character, and Talia reminded me of myself when I was 12 lmao. 😆
I absolutely adore Declan and Leana! Hands down the best characters to me. It had to be said! 😚

The spice was well done and well placed and really complemented the character growth of Bo and Everil. 🌶️

With that said, this was a fun read that was full of whimsy and magic and love. If you want something that checks those boxes I totally recommend this book to you. It seems like there will be a second book in this series and I think it will be everything I want and more based on the blurb! As always, happy reading! 📹🐴

5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️ spiciness, open door
I don’t have a rating for prose and realistic, memorable characters but it would rate pretty high on both those counts. Pretty sure some of those descriptions are straight up poetry, particularly in the ways magic is perceived.

I’ll admit I held off on reading this one because the novella from this author duo White Rabbit, Silver Fox (and its companion story Silver Fox, White Rabbit) hit me harder than I’d expected. Were they fantastic and worth the emotional impact? 100% absolutely. But I felt like I needed to brace myself for a metaphorical tire iron to the kneecaps with An Embrace of Citrus and Snow. (And perhaps I did, because it doesn’t pull its punches—particularly in its portrayal of abuse and its consequences, both parental and from a partner). But at the same time, Bo and Everil’s perseverance made the payoff so sweet after everything they went through.
Also Talia is my new favorite side character with her hilarious expectations of things in the human world.
The most powerful part of this book is seeing two people, both of whom had been repeatedly betrayed by those who should have taken care of them, learn how to trust each other—and trust themselves again. When your sense of self has been so badly warped that you can’t even see clearly, learning how to be true to yourself is no easy task, even when you think you know what you want, what matters. Sometimes it takes having someone else’s happiness at stake to find the courage to even try.

I’ll admit, despite my initial hesitation, the journey was so worth it that I’m fully won over and will be reading everything this incredible author team creates (even if sometimes it hurts, lol).

Unsure

This book left me feeling unsure if I wanted to continue the series. I ended up liking the characters, although I found Bo’s swearing very off-putting. I realize that it is a defining trait that sets him opposite the stilted, tricky, sugar-worded fae, but excessive, one-word swearing is a push button for me, so I felt ambivalent toward him for a lot of the book. I also dislike characters whose self-loathing is harped on continually. Everil skated close to the edge of my patience. It wasn’t really until the climax of the book that I developed an appreciation for both of the MCs. Talia, too, wavered right on the edge of irritation. The authors did a good job of making the bad guys & gals easy to hate unambiguously. Of all the characters, as usual for me, my favorites are secondary: Declan & Leana.

The plot was excellent, but it got bogged down in florid language and excessive style. Some restraint could have sped up pacing and not left me feeling “skip a bit, brother.” Certainly, there were places where it was effective, such as the intimate scenes, where the language lent a sense of lushness and wonder. Then, suddenly, the scene with Robin & Aunt Jan and the epilogue were very plain. It was jarring. Even though the next book has Declan as an MC, I’m not sure I want to slog through the style and language choices. They left me tired and didn’t keep my interest locked in. I found it easy to put the book aside, although I did keep coming back. I certainly didn’t devour it. At best, I’ll put the next book on my TBR pile and see if I pick it up later, or if it slides off the pile.

A disappointment after other books by this authors

I‘ve already read „An Embrace of Citrus and Snow“, „An Embrace of Smoke and Steel“ and parts of „So many ways to fall“ by this authors and liked them. I especially liked the character development and building of tension. Sadly both were lacking in this book.

The following may contain spoilers.
One of the main characters (the changeling) grew up in foster care and has a hard time saying what he wants and with conflict. Over the course of the book he shows some sort of backbone once, but not really, and it feels shoehorned in to resolve the conflict in the book, especially since he goes back to avoidance right afterwards. It doesn‘t feel as if he grew as a person during the book.
The other main character was and stayed dependable and supportive during the book and that was the end of his character.
The whole big conflict in this book seemed to be more of a mild annoyance and the resolution feeled forced. The book feeled more like the beginning and middle of a book, without the crescendo before the end, than like a whole book.
Another big problem for me were the bonds. The bonds feeled too transactional and of little real consequence. Especially after how Everil suffered in „An Embrace of Citrus and Snow“ under his broken bond, the ones here were disappointing.

The other problem I had with this book was the inconsistent writing style. The book contained parts with normal writing style and parts with many extremely shortend sentences, which was in a few places hard to read and interrupted my reading flow.

All in all I‘d give this book 2/5 stars for the storyline and 3/5 stars for the writing style.

You can't have Summer without Winter. You can't have a taste of ripe citrus without the taste of icy rivers temptations.

You also cannot have a sad, touch starved, horribly treated sad Fae without a fowl mouthed human who is accidentally southbound to you. To make matters worse.... the ex wants our broken boy back.

These two broken boys really struggled to keep themselves and their souls bound together. With the desire to stay together, their insecurities and pasts really haunt them throughout the book.
Where these two are complete opposites, they work extremely well. Bringing out good and some not so good qualities.

Bo is walking a fine line to offend the fae, while Wver us trying to run from his past while trying to reclaim what's his.

Horrible ex's you want to tickle with a sharp object, human hating fae, understanding the deals of fae and struggling to function normally are all these two can deal with.

Throw in a semi step child and BOOM. Insta family.

This book has everything you want in a book containing the fae and who tricksy they can be. I admire Bo being a straight shooter in terms of how he talks. He doesn't tip toe around the convo... unless it's about not wanting to be left alone.

Their end was hard won, with trials and a test of their feelings for each other. Even though Ever is a shy and proper guy... he has a filthy mouth and is very needy. Both of them are honestly and I LOVE that about them and for them.

An Embrace of Citrus and Snow is a sweet, absolutely swoon-worthy romance between a a sad, shy kelpie and the brash, skeptical human who stumbles across him. I adored it.

The writing is lush and gorgeous, and the story is fast-paced and compelling. Bo debunks stories of the supernatural for a living, and the abandoned house with legends of a mysterious (and murderous?) horse is just his next case. But the house isn’t abandoned after all, but home to the reserved Everil — who in his weakened state, collapses in Bo’s arms, inadvertently causing a soul bond. Whoops. Their connection may be instantaneous, but they still have to figure out how — and if — they can trust each other with the pain of their pasts. As they further their bond to protect their magical ward (a hoodie-wearing magical being in love with all things human), they must find a way to thwart the forces of Faerie that frown on their union.

I loved this fantasy romance that took what I knew of fae and magic, and added its own unique spin to it. Bo and Ever were so wonderfully prickly together, and their love was inevitable and beautiful. There is a wonderful blend of snark and spice and sweetness in this novel, and I adored every luscious minute. Highly, highly recommend.

Ok, ok, four stars... Twist my arm, why dontcha?

The book itself was great, don't get me wrong. It's been some time since I encountered this format of poetic writing, full of flowery language and pretty metaphors and just such a romantic (both in literally and literal sense) attitude to characters and story. English is not my MT so I am always to proud to say I rarely encounter unknown words in books and this one had several, which I consider a good sign. My opinion climbed steadily from the he very first page - but it plummeted at the second conflict part, the crescendo or whatever it is called the bad thing/the snag before the happy ending. That one was... It had one of my pet peeves - characters acting stupid. It's framed differently but it was a low point in more ways than the obvious IMAO.

Still I really adored everything about the book and REALLY hope there will be more. So, since at one point I contemplated five stars, let's round it up to four.

Oh wow, I loooooooooooved this!!! Yes, the writing was ... so lyrical at times it made it a bit of a chore to wade through, although that smoothed out a bit toward the end. It definitely made the sex scenes a fun ride, though! And even with the I just loved Bo's impulsive protective kind nature and was totally smitten with needy, emotionally abused, adoring Everil, too. 🥰

All the stars for this one! I loved the worldbuilding, every side character (except the ones I hated, ofc 🤣), and am so happy I found this series and new-to-me author duo once there were already a few books in it... because I'm a greedy reader and am off to read the slaugh's story right now! 🤣🤣🤣

I was excited to read this book as I love Fae and I love them more when they are described as the killer kind of Fae and not just the pretty plant magic ones lol

Our two MCs in this story are Bo, a human paranormal investigator who debunks more than proves, and Everil, a killer sad boi kelpie.

I did really enjoy reading about their relationship. I love a good slow burn but what was challenging for me in this book was the length. It was very descriptive and the writing style is almost lyrical in a way which is not bad but there were a lot of parts that dragged. If it was shorter I personally would’ve enjoyed it more.

Overall I would give this book a 3.5. I am looking forward to future books from these two authors as it is a really cool world they created.

3 stars.

Verbose, flowery and slow AF.

I don't usually mind a little color purple with some poetics on the side, but this story just d-r-a-g-s--a-s-s.
On the other hand, some things move with the speed of light, like insta-love, for example. We are talking 20 minutes here, maybe even less. Voila! Bonded for life.

In between shorts bursts of things moving along, the characters won't shut up about the feels or won't stop with the hanky-panky (I think I skipped about 30 pages once in one go). I thought I was skimming like crazy, average 15-20 pages at a time, and it still took me forever to finish the book.

"Erotica" should be one of the prominent there. Took MCs some time, but once they got to it, it's all non-stop bunny action.

A perfect read

I don't think I've ever smashed the fifth star faster after finishing a book. Perfect in every way, just an absolutely beautiful romance.
