Thrust into a life and family that neither of them were looking for, Gabrielle Jacobs and Terrence Whitaker decide that they'll just make the best of it, because the have most important ingredient: Love.
They fail...miserably.
Through the ashes of their failed romantic relationship, they're able to form a different type of bond, one that allows them to effectively coparent their daughter, and even become friends.
But is that enough?
Constantly pulled together by chance and circumstance, will Gabi and Terrence decide to embark on a journey to finish what they started, or will they decide that it's best to leave the past in the past?
There's not too much that I can directly say about this one because it takes place directly after the events of the first book. However, I will continuously say that I'm such a huge fan of CCJ's writing style. It truly does capture the reader and draws them into the story. Terrance and Gabi have gone in a completely different direction than where they were in the first book. The entirety of this book is more so about their character development and growth. They weren't immature in the first book, but I think that the nature of their relationship required more maturity, patience, and compassion for one another. They both seemed to have good intentions; however, they both made wrong steps in their relationship and this book focused on rectifying those wrongs. I fell for this couple and rooted for them entire way even when I thought they were both making poor decisions. Honestly, I think that Jones did a great job with the character development and pacing. I wish there was a little more explanation of the side characters, but other than that I think this is a great series to pick up. If you like work place romances, second chance romances, and pure cuteness this is the duology for you!
I’ve heard of slow burn romances but, Unfinished Business was excruciatingly slow. When I tell y’all I was sick of Gabi, I was sick of her! She frustrated me so much. I get her wanting to be cautious because of the way Terrence showed his azz but, come on! It’s been five damn years! The man has changed, he’s apologized, and he’s gone above and beyond to show you he’s bout’ that grown man life but, Gabi is still on that I need time mess. She was the one sabotaging their happiness this time around because, she wouldn't let go of the past. Gabi was a prime example of biting your nose off to spite your face. She was willing to be miserable and unhappy just to “protect her heart” but, the heffa had no problem stringing Preston along and pretending with him. When she took that bracelet off the second time, I wanted to slap the piss out of Gabi. We finally get rid of Michael’s crazy azz only to have to put up with Preston and Sabrina’s petty and jealous azzes. I have to give it to them, they played their rolls perfectly as the villains of this story. I really wish Uncle Bobby would’ve let Terrence loose on Preston because, he more than deserved to get his azz whooped. What happened with Gabi’s parents? I know she cut them off in book one but, it’s five years later. It would’ve been nice to get some kind of update on them and Gabi’s relationship or lack thereof. While they were apart for the majority of the book, Gabi’s relationship with Terrance is admirable. I loved how they were able to come together after the break-up and co-parent Joci like adults with no drama. I wasn’t happy with how long it took them to get to their HEA but, I can appreciate Gabi and Terrence's growth which allowed them a much deserved second chance. As frustrating as Unfinished Business was, it was still a great book. CCJ did such a beautiful job drawing the readers into Gabi and Terrence's story. Get into this series ladies and gents. You will not be disappointed.
I'm afraid Terrance dissapointed me way too much for me to have loved this book. This story could have been left at the end of book 1, Strictly Professional. I'm afraid I have an unforgiving nature when it come Terrance's behavior. But it's CCJ and I wanted Gabi to be happy, so... Happy reading!
This Was A Good Story! I enjoyed how realistic this couple and their issues were....it took this couple almost nine (9) years to get themselves together and get to their HEA....Over time, I loved the growth in Gabi and how she still maintained her personal strength she discovered towards the end of Strictly Professional (Book 1). I loved that she had a community to depend on and Uncle Bobby was still extremely supportive. I also loved how it appeared Gabi matured sexually and her and Terrence was able to maintain what appeared to be a strong connection four years after they had broken up. For these two (2) getting back to their HEA was quite a ride, but eventually they got there only managing to come out slightly bruised. Wesleigh & Jakobi brought Terrence and Gabi's story to life....Excellent Narration!
So, immediately after finishing the prequel, I flew to Amazon to download “Unfinished Business” and was continuing with the series in less than four minutes. I was expecting to pick up with Gabi and Terrance’s discovery however, Jones threw a curve ball. I was absolutely not anticipating where the story picked up. I found myself immediately taking sides when discovering the “layover” history between these two.
What was genius about Jones’ craft is that she picked up a new timeline in this installment and made the characters’ new lives so appealing. She made their love and relationship alluring. She was able to make their connection even sexier than before (and I didn’t know it was possible). It was nothing short of skillful how Jones transitioned this storyline!
I can’t tell you how many times my jaw dropped while reading. That darn Gabi is a sharp lil’ something, and her sexuality matured nicely! I was like, “Whoa! Go, Gabi!” so many times! I also found myself being proud of Terrence and his ability to stay the course to win Gabi over.
the way i finished the first book and jumped straight into the next one 🤣😩 i just had to know what happened with gabi and terrence!
and ccj did not disappoint! this book was everything and more, i’m obsessed 😍❤️🩹 your girl loves a second chance romance like the next person, and this book was no exception! so happy gabi and terrence were able to find their feet again and get their happy ending together x
This is the follow-up to Strictly Professional and it picks up five years later. We find Gabi and Terrence sharing custody of their daughter. Terrence wants Gabi back but she wants only to be friends. Terrence is determined to do whatever to make Gabi see that they belong together. I thought this was a great follow-up to the first book.
4/5⭐️ A man will distract you away from EVERYTHING! Your dreams, goals, aspirations, even yourself if you allow him too. Gabi in a way, centered her life around this man and truly I hated she was so weak in the knees for him!😒😂 in the end she did find herself and the love she deserved from the jump🙂

2⭐️ This will contain spoilers, but I don't care BECAUSE I AM MAD! You've been warned!
This is the kind of book that makes me want to sit the author down and ask gently, but firmly....why? Why tell this story this way? Why dress up deeply ingrained misogyny as a second-chance romance? I really like CJC, and she has some great MMCs....but this one was just a big fat NO!
Here we have Gabi—a working woman turned stay-at-home mom, not because she wanted it, but because Terrence and his aunt apply pressure rooted in a generational idea of femininity. A woman sacrifices her career and her sense of self—all to uphold a version of motherhood, that prioritises caregiving above personhood. And instead of support, she gets silence. Emotional abandonment. Not once does Terrence see her. He literally chooses not to hear her! He believes providing a paycheck is enough. Meanwhile, she drowns in mental load, isolation, and maybe even postnatal depression. The emotional neglect isn’t subtle—it’s stated, repeatedly. And still, we’re asked to believe in the inevitability of their love. Because it's oh so romantic.....
Let’s be clear: Gabi doesn’t “endure” this. She leaves him. She rebuilds. She reclaims her autonomy, her career, her self-worth. And that’s the one part of the book that actually works!
What doesn’t work is pretending that Terrence, after five full years of being balls deep in someone else, the OW he emotionally cheated with during this “tough phase” suddenly realises Gabi was the one all along. Thus, the OW gets flattened into a villain. But the truth? There’s no meaningful distinction between them in his mind. His criteria haven’t evolved. He doesn’t fall back in love with who Gabi is—he returns to the idea of her as a complete package: lawyer, mother, SEXY, composed. He’s finally ready to love her… but only when she becomes everything he originally demanded. There’s no real reflection here. No meaningful regret. Just a vague sense of loss—because what he misses is not her, but the version of her he remembers and the version he wished she would have been, and which he would have had if he had continued to support her!!!!! He loved the woman who wasn’t exhausted, but always elegant. Maternal but untouched by it. Who didn’t need anything from him emotionally, but was supporting and nurturing 24/7 in high-heels and always dolled up! It’s the same impossible balancing act, so many women live under, and this book did nothing to dismantle this. No, it shifted responsibilities. Because only once she’s become the full “package” again, Terrence wants her back.
It’s misogyny layered in romantic logic.
If Gabi had been offered a real alternative—a man who saw her softness and exhaustion and met her there—Terrence wouldn’t have stood a chance. But the book stacks the deck. The OW is vilified, the OM is written as an OTT red flag to make Terrence palatable, and the entire thing is intended to attract Gabi and Terrence back together—not because their love was profound, but because the narrative posits that a shared history and a child are equivalent to destiny. And that, ultimately, is where this story lost me completely: it’s not about love. It’s about narrative convenience. About forcing a broken dynamic back into place without investing the emotional effort in the healing aspect of their relationship arc.
So, no, Terrence doesn’t deserve Gabi. And if she’d been given a real alternative, he wouldn’t have stood a chance.
And that’s what this book gets wrong at its core. Gabi deserves more than being chosen once she’s perfect again. She deserved to be seen the moment she started disappearing!
I love Christina C. Jones but some of her heroes are disappointing and this hero SUUUUUCKS. I was hoping for an ending that turned it around by having HIM put HIS job on ice to support HER career. Instead he got the big promotion while the heroine accepts another career setback to move back to a new city and a lower position at her old firm. There's also the classic evil other woman plot device. Woof
I thought Unfinished Business was a great sequel to Strictly Professional. I liked the fact that while Terrance & Gabi's relationship experienced a bit of turbulence & uncertainty, their true love for each other never waivered. This was another well written romance novel by Chrisine C. Jones that I enjoyed reading & recommend to all.
Unfinished Business was a great finish to a most enjoyable story. Mrs. Jones' characters are likable, funny and sensitive. Her use of humor is an extra special treat! Will certainly read whatever she writes.
After reading the first book about this couple, I was totally surprised to see how things were between them once I started reading the second book. The story picks up with the couple separated and going through things.
Gabi moves to Dallas and raising their 5 year old daughter away from Terrance. Terrance is still a big part of his daughter's life, and he is a great father.
I didn't like that the couple lacked communicate and Terrance paid more attention to a female colleague this Gabi- the woman he loved. Christina Jones does a wonderful job in taking you along in this journey.
Gabi & Terrance's story is a wonderful love story that is so real and relatable. The problems they encountered were problems that are very common. In the end, they find their way.. which was enjoyable.
They found each other, they lost each other , they co-parented then they found each other again. A realistic sequel that shows what happened after their initial happily ever after.
CCJ!!! This was better than the first one. I don’t think I’ve rated that one yet, but this one gave me everything I need in a romance! I was biting my nails with Gabi! She had me about to reach in the book and choke her! Seriously I think this was one of the best romances from CCJ I’ve read. I love that it began with a challenge. Love it .
Unfinished Business is the follow up to Strictly Professional. This was a book that I really needed to read because I actually felt like I had unfinished business with the main characters Gabi and Terrence. I wanted, no again needed to know how their lives were going, what path life had taken them and how they navigated it. These were two wonderful characters in SP and I was invested in them. I wanted to read about their success and even their failures if there were some. I liked this couple and wanted them happy, especially Gabi. This was a young woman who truly deserved a joy filled life because until Terrence came along happinees was at a minimum for her. I was excited to read about the rest of their journey.
UB begins five years later from the time SP ended and we find out that Gabi and Terrence are no longer together but remain close friends, committed to raising their daughter Jos. What? Not together and for almost 4 years?? I needed a drink just to wrap my head around that. I needed another one when I found out why they were not together. I will just say that there was a moment when some not very lady like language could be heard around me. I knew they would hit a rough spot but 4 years? Seriously Christina Jones??
Well that is just it; this is a Christina Jones story and with that comes her doses of real life reality. Life happened and just like in real life, people hurt your feelings and disappoint you. They make mistakes and let others into your lives when they shouldn't. They force you to make decision you might otherwise not make. Reality. So I prepare myself for the journey and hope it doesn't disappoint.
UB did not. There wasn't anything about the story I didn't love. It was funny and endearing, sad and uplifting, sexy and romantic. I restrain from saying too much because I don't want to divulge the story but I will say that there is a "put the trifling chick in check" scence that is epic. Girl got told!
This was the story I had hoped for Gabi and Terrence it captured the lightness of thier love in Strictly Professional but grew into something so much more substantial and special.
STORY LINE: Gabi and Terrence are a little older and wiser in Unfinished Business. When their story opens, they are still a couple. Gabi gives up her career to be a parent, but is overwhelmed and soon resentful of Terrence, who is moving ahead professionally. The path of true love doesn't run smooth and the couple is assailed by an assortment of problems, including insecurity and jealous associates.
PLAYERS: Gabi has grown up and is now holding her own as a mother and a professional. She has moved ahead in her career and is respected by her peers. Her relationship with Terrance is admirable and a bit charged as they work together to raise their daughter.
Terrence is a good father, but his attitude toward his work and his inability to understand Gabi's needs results in their separation. Now that Gabi has come into her own, she's even more desirable to him.
OVERALL COMMENTS: The book provides an emotional read and I couldn't help wanting these two nice young people to get through their misunderstandings and experience happiness with each other. Theirs is a bit of a roller-coaster ride in terms of their professional struggles, but the author wraps things up in a convincing matter.
COVER NOTE: A slightly different cover that works well for this continuing story.
Men know they be wanting that old thing back when you move on and are happy without them. This second book definitely made up for book 1. Terrence and Preston were textbook toxic men! They both did Gabi so dirty. She had Terrence’ whole baby and put her career on hold and he goes sniffing behind some new tail. And Preston with the cameras in the office…. I knew he was a snake but he was a bitter Betty for sure.
Terrence’ name should be changed to Mr. Waste your time 😩. This dude wasted 3 years of Sabrina’s life and 9 years of Gabi’s?! Wow!!!…..and I’m by no means siding with Sabrina because she did have her own ulterior motives. She was triflin too but Terrence gave Sabrina the ammunition to turn around and use against Gabi with his pillow talking self.
No matter how much I wanted to believe he changed I couldn’t forget the fact that he did Gabi wrong. She deserves better. She should’ve told everybody to kick rocks 😩
We meet up with Gabi and Terrence five years later. One would have thought at the end of the 1st book that it would have been a happily ever after story. That is not the case.
Gabi and Terrence relationship didn't work out. They loved each other but with the birth of their daughter the relationship changed. After a sting of events Gabi decides to move to Texas. Even though she is in another state Terrence is still in her heart.
I really liked reading about Gabi and Terrence. I like the fact that it wasn't a sappy love story. Every relationship has trials and tribulation. We were taken on a journey through Gabi and Terrence's love. I look forward to reading more books by Christina C. Jones.
Isn’t it emotion cheating that Terrence dated the other woman (for 3 yrs!!) after Gabi moved out?? Given that Gabi expressed her insecurities and doubts about the other woman to Terrence before?? This is the problem with books of 2nd chance romance though, somehow it’s always the heroine who got the short end of the stick while the hero always undoubtedly has a side chick who he’s banging until he realized he’s an asshole, and in this story that’s Terrence. God why can’t books like this portray the heroine to have moved on and find a NICE guy and not lusting after the hero who’s totally not worth it? That aside, I adore their daughter and the 1 star is for her.

I just finished this book and I can truly say I feel good . I love it when a books makes you feel a little nervous because you are not sure what will happen. I really loved this couple, their journey of forgiveness and love was a pleasure to read .
This follow-up to Strictly Professional was definitely unfinished business. It was a very sweet story following Gabi and Terrence through nine years of struggles and forgiveness. In the end, love prevails. A must read.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for second chance romances!! I loved the second chance aka “unfinished business” between Gabi & Terrance.
The drama and mess was there. The angst between the characters were there. It was a novella that was action packed and left no questions to be answered.
I was highly disappointed in the decisions that Terrance made, but loved his growth. I also loved how Gabi was still standing up for herself and not taking no mess. The characters were developed very well.
Sometimes children in books get on my nerves but Joci was a complete joy. 🥹
Sabrina? Preston? 😑 if they were real, they would rot!
I would only recommend this book if you’ve read Strictly Professional. You would really appreciate it if you start from there. I do think this could be read as a standalone though.
