Sam has never minded the tranquillity of living in a tiny coastal town, but when school finishes forever, her world begins to change. First she meets Jack, his blasé charm hiding a secret from his past. And dark broody Riley, her almost-boss from the café seems to only want one thing. Her.
But Sam is dealing with issues of her own. Her mother suffers a mental illness and their history is one that Sam tries desperately to forget. But fate has other plans, and when an unforeseen even wreaks havoc on Sam's world, Sam must face her long-held fears.
When Sam's world is rocked to its core, her instinct is to run. From Jack, her mother and the pain that grips her heart. But Sam can't run forever, and she must find a way to pick herself up and deal with an issue she's put off for far too long.
Can Sam allow Jack to be there for her when already he's suffered so much? Or will she finally succeed in pushing him away forever?
Allie is a Sydney-based writer who believes in the boundless possibilities of imagination and in telling stories that resonate with the heart. Allie is the author of Cloud Quest, a fantasy quest adventure story for middle-grade readers, coastal romance Falling Away, and now Losing Grace, due for release in February 2017.
Born and raised in Sydney, Allie spent her summer holidays on the beach in Port Stephens. Now, juggling motherhood, the demands of hospital social work and mostly nocturnal writing habits, Allie still spends her holidays on the white sandy beaches of Port Stephens! She also has a penchant for drinking way too many Chai lattes and an unfortunate chocolate addiction.
This was an NA contemporary romance story about a girl who wasn’t really sure what she wanted to do with her life.
Sam was an okay character, although the way her mother treated her was pretty harsh at times and I did feel sorry for her in places.
The storyline in this was about Sam getting a job at a small café, and meeting a boy who she liked. We also had another boy involved who she didn’t like quite so much though, so we did get a bit of a love triangle. The pace in this wasn’t bad though, and the story was enjoyable.
Just finished reading this beautifully written and intriguing novel. Congratulations Allie Little on writing such a beautiful story and taking the reader on the journey with Sam's relationships with family and the men in her life. Definitely recommend it and it leaves you wanting more from this talented writer.
A beautifully written story of love, loss, depression, family and strength. Sam is an amazing character as is Jack. You fall in love with them as they fall for each other. All the characters blend perfectly together completing this story.
There were some issues with this story for me. Sam got on my nerves with some of her choices, and then there were times that things just didn’t make sense in general. I also found it weird when a big, uncommon word was just thrown in out of nowhere. Some things were hinted at that never became anything, which seemed a little off, too. For those of you into triangles, you’d enjoy the fact that there’s one in this story. It was a little weird for me because one guy seemed an easy write-off. The end left some questions unanswered, but there was still an ending to a huge part of the story. My first instinct with this story was to give it 4 stars because it was a page turner for me. I read it a month ago, though, and struggled to remember much of it even after studying the notes I wrote on it. All of my notes were about problems I found, though. I will say that I can see potential as a result of the author’s ability to keep me flipping pages and holding my interest. This is just Allie’s second book, so I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Warnings: strong language, sex scenes
4.5 heart-wrenching stars for Falling Away by Allie Little!
Just literally finished reading the ARC, and to say that I am happy with is is an understatment. I love how it has a young adult theme yet it does not tackle on the usual sex, love, drugs, infidelities, insecurities that YAs tend to gravitate to. It talks about beautiful relationships on friendship, love and family.
I always love a good cry and Falling Away has successfully made my tear ducts unclogged. Also, a plus that I seem to appreciate more is how the author delivered all of this through her writing. I love her style and I most definitely would want to read some more of her novels again.
Have just finished reading my ARC of Falling Away. Loved it! From the first page I couldn't put it down and became completely immersed in Sam's world; her relationships with Jack and Riley, her family and other friends and the beautiful coastal town where she lives. Definitely recommend it! Falling Away
Loved that the book is set in New South Wales! And pays reference to places in sydney that I KNOW! Great book, really enjoyed it. Can't wait for Riley's POV
Falling Away is a mature Young Adult standalone novel. It's a fast story with beautiful, emotional, visual writing. Transported me into another world ♡
Part of me loves YA novels because they have this "thing". This novel absolutely delivered, giving me a narrative voice, no stupidity, a sweet coming-of-age story interlaced with pain and growing up and love. I'm a slow reader but I would have delivered it in one gulp if I was faster.
Set in a beach town in Australia, you'll feel the setting come alive as if running through your body like lifeblood. The atmosphere in Falling Away is as visceral as the emotion from and between each character.
I'd been having a hard time connecting fully with a book for many months. I was sad that I hadn't felt that passion when you CLICK with a story. And apart from some very minor little things this book made me internally shout I'M BACK, BABY!!
