After the ending of the first book, I was looking forward to this one. Book 1 was a courtship parade and sexual tension at its peak. This one gave me all the feels: caring scenes, falling in love scenes. While Lane is learning about love, Miranda is learning to embrace her queerness. This book delves into Lane's past and background. She is a true warrior you can only admire, but she is also a huge softie, and I loved that side of her.
Even without the sexual tension, Von Triessen kept me hooked with "awww" scenes, and steamy scenes she really masters. One of the strap on scenes is 🔥. They are not on a rabbit level like Alexandra and Blake, but I liked that sex scenes and sweet scenes are really well balanced. It was the perfect and sweetest conclusion to Miranda and Lane's stories.

4.5 ⭐️

In Book 2, Miranda takes a bold step and agrees to go on a date with Lane, marking the start of their casual relationship. It seems like the perfect arrangement for both of them. However, as time goes on, what once felt light and carefree begins to shift. They soon find themselves caught off guard by the deepening emotions that threaten to complicate everything. In a panic, they both flee, choosing opposite paths to avoid the intensity of their feelings. But inevitably, their hearts pull them back together. The journey is filled with tension, sweetness and hot sexy time, making it an utterly engaging read for yours truly.

Book 3 in the pipeline or will it stop at 2?

I started this series with An Unexpected Affair and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it at first since it was an ultra slow burn (first steamy scene didn't occur until 91% into the book). But by the end of An Unexpected Affair, I was hooked and committed! Fate continues right where Affair leaves off with our two main ladies, Miranda and Lane and the development of their long-awaited relationship/situationship. I loved the pace of their newfound feelings for each other because it felt pretty realistic. Miranda was "straight" before she met the very persistent and confident Lane and Lane was a non-committal sex Goddess with a tragic upbringing. You know how in some Sapphic books, there are dramatic situations that come up just for the sake of dramatics and are completely unnecessary and unrealistic to the story? Both books had scenarios that would make me start to think that was about to happen, then completely surprise me by following the course of how it *should* play out IRL. Loved that! I just really enjoyed this couple and the way their story played out. It didn't feel rushed OR dragged out like most other Sapphic stories I've read. Also, Fate has nonstop and well-written steamy scenes to make up for the constant edging we all received in Affair 🤣. Would recommend both books for a light and quick read!

Loved this! Lane and Miranda’s relationship went from spark to something real, and I enjoyed every second of it. Great character growth, great pacing, and such a satisfying follow-up. An Unexpected Affair gave us the spark, but this book brought the real feelings and it absolutely delivered. Also was even hotter than the first book, which is also a plus. 🥵🥵

I didn't like this audiobook-

I was disappointed in this installment as I enjoyed the drama in book one, and Fate didn't have any. No chemistry between mains

This a sequel to an unexpected affair and it’s not stand alone. The 🌶️ is hot (hot, hot, hot) but everything was boring, flat and unrealistic. Every side character that is not a villain (see Lane’s birth parents) is a constant fountain of wisdom for all matters related to the heart and love. Honestly the way every character waxes poetic about love you would think them all philosophy scholars. Every diatribe is thesis worthy and as such boredom came quickly. It’s one thing to have the 1 wise old lady, it’s another to have 6 of them. Also, what surgeon gets this much time off that she’s taking back to back vacations and also runs a charity on the side? Oh and also performs heart surgery at a whim on an island she’s holidaying at that just got hit by a hurricane? To add further insult, this wasn’t even a scene from her POV but was a matter of fact phone call afterwards. As I said about the previous installment, meh. And another thing - there was a total retcon on how Lane met Miranda and why she was so aggressively pushy in book 1 with essentially a total stranger. It’s because she remembered Miranda from when she was 12 and they had a brief hallmark encounter. Lane knew Miranda was special so how can she not pursue? 🙄 This is honestly a 1 star story but 🔥🔥🔥 🌶️ scenes. (2 strap scenes people!)

I didn’t hate it but I found this series mostly predictable. If you’ve read the maybe it’s meant to be series, it’s practically the same trajectory with a lot of unnecessary scenes.

• 4 stars.⭐ (Encostar na Tua - Ana Carolina)

“Still, it’s the most beautiful thing to feel what I feel for you. This overwhelming paradox that makes me feel both powerless and powerful at the same time. To want you with such intensity that being apart from you was the most unbearable thing I’ve ever had to endure.”

-

An incredible story that makes you believe in soulmates. I think they're probably the least characters you'd imagine in a relationship but they just make it work like a missing puzzle piece, they're perfect for each other! The first girl you liked, the first person who was kind to you and the first woman you loved... Could it get any more perfect than that? Speaking of that... I love the way they met. In fact, the thing that can make me fall in love with a book the most is finding out that the characters have met before (SVT you read my mind!) and knowing about their little past. Ugh, they melt my heart.

Now, something I love about Skye's books, apart from her incredible way of writing novels, is definitely her characters. The characters aren't perfect (God forbid something like that) and that's what makes them so realistic and incredible. Something I love even more is how all her characters are so inspiring, they make you want to be a better person. That is so unique and rare.

I think anyone who knows my name automatically knows that I'm completely in love with ice queens and they own my heart. That said, I love you Delaney Remington!
I would never have guessed she was an ice queen for one simple reason: our point of view. She always treated Miranda with something so far from ice (?) that when I discovered her armor it was shocking and even pleasant - bc again... i love them.

She was always so funny, charming and inspiring to me. And one of the things I loved most was her discovering that she was capable of love, the kind of love that makes you fall in love and go crazy for someone else, something that was unthinkable for her. She's just ugghhgggh the sweetest ok. AGAIN I LOVE YOU DELANEY. You deserve all the love in the world. :(

And that obviously applies to Miranda. So sweet and kind but so strong and resilient when she needed to be. An incredible character who captivated me and watching her discover herself was an incredible journey. I LOVE YOU TOO MIRANDA HAYES.

Anyway... I think I got carried away here, huh?

If the rumours about the third book/novella etc is true... I'll need them having 5 babies, marriage, happy ever after etc etc etc

Amazing

Totally loved the plot and it’s twist and turns. Brilliantly bringing the past encounters with the present moments. How one small act of kindness grows into a beautiful unexpected tomorrow. This is a must read for the hopeless romantic.

Literature Done to Perfection

As an avid romance reader, I often find myself drawn to novels that combine compelling storytelling with a touch of spice. This sequel, undoubtedly my favorite read of 2024, masterfully embodies the delicate art of the slow burn. Where I might typically grow restless, I found myself utterly captivated by its intricate plot and richly developed characters.

At its core, this series exemplifies excellent storytelling. While I enjoy a well-executed steamy scene, it’s the strength of the narrative and the depth of the characters that truly set this book apart. Lane’s story, in particular, resonated deeply. For those of us who have faced the trials of being raised by less-than-ideal parents, whether “birthers,” “sperm donors,” "eggs" as the author so rightfully puts it, or absentee figures—Lane's journey feels profoundly relatable. Her determination to rise above her circumstances is both inspiring and empowering.

Von Triessen’s writing stands out for its impeccable balance of fantasy and realism. Her ability to weave a slow-burning romance with moments of well-timed intensity is unparalleled. Though the “spicy” scenes are few, they are written with such care and detail that they leave a lasting impression. Each one is meaningful, enhancing the story rather than distracting from it.

Moreover, her creativity shines in the way she immerses readers in a world that feels simultaneously otherworldly and grounded in emotional authenticity. It’s rare to find a writer who can so seamlessly blend these elements, and Von Triessen does so with finesse.

As much as I adored this book, I couldn’t help but feel that there were lingering questions and threads left unexplored. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by the depth and closure provided in the Meant to Be sequel, but I sincerely hope she revisits this story. There’s so much more I’d love to see unfold, and it would be a delight to spend more time in this beautifully crafted world.

The perfect ending to the group of friends who I don’t want to let go. I’ve gotten so attached to both Blake and Alexandra and their whirlwind relationship and then Miranda and Lane.

There was a third act break up but not one that you would expect. Lane was giving Miranda a chance to seek out other experiences that had to do with her sexuality and what a strong person Lane has to be in order to leave Miranda that way. My heart literally couldn’t handle that.

I don’t want to spoil too much of the book but I’ll definitely say what an amazing story of two characters brought to life when their childhoods were not nearly the same. When Lane was explaining her childhood to Miranda, finally opening up to someone, it made my heart grow fonder of Lane and not think she’s a cold B**** that everyone pegs her to be.

The most shocking realization was Miranda and Lane had a run in when they were kids and it showed Miranda’s caring and generous heart.

But when I tell you that you have to read these books from the beginning, I’m not lying. Give yourself a whole weekend because it is something you won’t be able to put down. I’m sad to see this chapter close but I’m excited to see what else this author has in store for her readers!!

Emotional, passionate, and completely captivating

Unexpected Fate by Skye Von Trissen is a beautifully written romance that pulls you in from the first page and refuses to let go. Von Trissen’s characters are richly developed, flawed, and deeply relatable, making their journey toward love both believable and deeply moving. The story is a perfect mix of tension, heart, and hope — every twist and turn keeps you invested in the outcome.

Abby Craden and Audrey Obeyn deliver an outstanding dual narration. Abby’s warmth and emotional expressiveness perfectly capture the vulnerability of the characters, while Audrey adds depth, intensity, and undeniable chemistry. Together, their voices make the story feel alive, intimate, and utterly real.

Unexpected Fate is a masterful romance — heartfelt, steamy, and brilliantly performed. A must-listen for anyone who loves character-driven stories with exceptional narration

This Whole Series Has Been Unexpected !

From the initial couple born, Blake and Alexandra, to the present couple, Miranda and Lane this series has been nothing but heartfelt. There have been periods of heartbreaking incidents but mostly in the rise of the characters, it has been heartwarming. This writer has continued to impress me with her storytelling. We follow her along knowing something good is awaiting. Miranda and Lane’s story is a classic example. It is the story I definitely wanted. Needing to know the dynamics with Miranda and Lane along side Miranda and Trevor was the catalyst that brought Miranda to where she needed to be. A place we fans wanted her to be. Skye, I can’t wait to see where you go next…..

Wonderful love story

Skye Von Triessen has written a romantic love story featuring two characters you’ll appreciate getting to know. Miranda Hayes, born into a wealthy, loving family, is a respected cardiothoracic surgeon and philanthropist, known for her kindness, affability, and openness.

Delaney ”Lane” Remington’s heart-wrenching childhood is the reason she has only two people she trusts completely, refuses to commit to any of the beautiful women she invites into her bed, and has powered forward to become, at only 40 years old, one of the top CEOs in hospital administration globally.

The novel is well worth a read.

A wonderful book

Miranda finally gives in and goes on a date with Lane. She experienced the best sex she has ever had. Their casual. This is something that Miranda is liking because Lane doesn't do relationships. Lane is learning to trust and open up to Miranda that she is there for her no matter what. Miranda is learn that she is falling in love with Miranda. Miranda is love with Lane but her past relationship has her bothered, she has to think things through. A wonderful story of two people that bring the best out of each other by learning what each other wants and needs in a strong relationship.

Beautiful and Spicy 🌶️ 5 Brilliant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unexpected Fate is the continuation from an “ Unexpected Affair “ .
If you read an Unexpected Affair you must read an Unexpected Fate !
Do prepare yourself to be blown by the fire of Lane and Mirada’s story conclusion.
This story made me laugh, cry and feel all the chemistry this 2 characters had for each other.
I absolutely recommend reading An Unexpected Fate. AFTER reading An Unexpected Affair and if you really want” the holy grail” do yourself a favor and begin with what started it all “ If it’s meant to be”

I loved it! The first book was good but Lane annoyed me a lot in the first book. The way she pursued Miranda was at times cringey. LOL
This book showed such a different side to Lane. I enjoyed the backstory of how she overcame such adversity. Anita is a gem! I loved how Lane and Miranda’s relationship evolved. I love their sexual chemistry and how they let their guard down for each other. Trevor, he is a nice guy but, just go away! LOL It was beautiful. Also, I love getting bits and pieces of Blake and Alexandra.

Just wow!!

Lane and Miranda are to characters that set the bar high when it comes to being a couple. This story is not in realistic, It covers many of the truths within individuals who are constantly seeking improvement and love. Skye is an exceptional writer who is able to put words together in such an enticing fashion. If you're not sure if you should read this, question yourself no more. I promise it will meet every need and desire you crave when it comes to a story about love and life.

As we have read previously, it seems that Lane can be full of herself thinking she's all that and a bag of chips. We learn in this story all about her past and everything comes together. I would hate for any child to be subjected to her up bringing but that is what makes her special. I highly recommend this book if you love a good lesbian romance with plenty of hot sex and an extremely happy ending.

I love this so much!! There were no unnecessary misunderstandings or issues. Lane and Miranda communicate a lot and are very considerate of each other.
There was no big blow-up or climax. It was just 2 people falling in love 💞
The writing was fab. Sadly, there wasn't as much banter or tension compared to the first book. However, it was still enjoyable and fun to read.
Also, where did Anita go at the end?

An Unexpected Fate

This is the continuation of Miranda and Lane's story. In book one, we got a lot of slow burn action ... here, we are thrown into the fire🔥🔥🔥
As they try to tread water in this new casual relationship, both soon realize they are deep in their feelings for one another. Love is a risk, but not an easy one to take...and that's not even considering all the other obstacles that keep popping up!!

Such a good read!

Great sequel to a great story!

Could not love Lane and Miranda more! There's some parallels to Grey's Anatomy, even some names and even a phrase and setting (in the first book) but other than that Skye did a great job of creating these 2 characters and giving them the story they deserved in the 2nd! So good. Finished both within 3 days as I could not put it down!
