Ping: The Rescue of Eden

Will there ever be a time when everyone will respect the environment, appreciate the beauty and glory of a spring day when the sun shines and the water in the ocean glistens allowing us to smell the sweet fragrance of spring as the flowers begin to bloom? Will both humans and animals remember when “life was kind and all of the earth’s creatures were caring and responsible?” Life is precious and we take the simple things fore granted. When everything seems wonderful what happens when one thing seems off? What happens what the world that you’ve respected and love no longer exists? Enter Eden Pond where those living there understand its purity and beauty. What happens when the climate starts to change and you need to find a way to restore the past before you can create your future?

Eden Pond is special. Sitting on a special shiny stone we meet Ping who has spent the sum of his past years living in “serene quietude, development mindfulness and awareness, mirroring a harmony with the natural world, observing the joys of life divine.” But, Ping brings joy to the many tiny froglings living in Eden Pond as he mesmerizes them with his bountiful leaps and jumps bringing special laughter and smiles to each one of them. Enjoying the sounds of the birds, appreciating the flora, Ping loved this special place and the gifts it bestowed. Spring was coming and the butterflies emerged from their chrysalis and the pond appeared to be perfect. Something was missing and Ping felt that there was definitely an imbalance in the air and he needed to focus and find out what it was. First entertaining the little froglings with his leaps and jumps, greeting his friend Heron who could fly anywhere, Ping asks him if he noticed that something was missing. Kamo, the cheery duck came next and he asked the same question as Heron reinforced that coming of spring and the beauty of the day. But, Ping seemed concerned and understanding that what was not there seemed to invade his thoughts he need to find out what was different as Kamo states that the water is warmer and his need to enter the quietude and stillness of his mind without distractions. Deep into his meditation Ping would sit motionless, empty his mind so that the vast expanse as the author relates can fill it with each breath. Sitting on the stone, not moving, he clears his mind and although many other creatures are around him, he can discount the noise and focus on his thoughts.

As he continues to meditate he realizes that there were no bees humming and that was disquieting. Ping needs to find the answers to the imbalances in Eden Pond and it will lead him to the journey of his life that will take him to many dark places, living through cold and frigid weather hoping to bring back the harmony to his world. Ping relates to his friend Kamo that from the bamboo they need to learn. From the flower learn of the interconnectedness within the universe, the circle of Life the Ten Thousand Things that he learned from a wise old Owl. Each thing large or small embraces each other and is tied together or bound in the mystery of Nature. No bees, no pollination, no plants, creatures or food. NO MORE TEN THOUSAND THINGS!

But, what happens next is the legend of Ping was once again reborn with a jump higher than he ever did before! Author Stuart Avery Gold brings to light the importance of embracing our environment, respecting the water, the trees, the land and understanding global warming and its effect on not only humans but animals too.
What happens when the moon is hidden and Ping cannot see its brilliance? As he and Kamo look over the Pali River they realize that there is no moon over the water. Kamo reacts with strong emotions and the memory of the brilliance and glisten of the water is just a memory. Other memories flood his mind as he recounts counting pebbles or even watching the fish slit through the glassy waters that is now filled with mud and algae. Ping’s heart was heavy as he realized what was happening. Questions came to mind as they realized they needed clean water, Ping looking over the river with total disbelief realizing that the stream of their destiny flows with the water. Kamo stared and looked back in the direction of Eden and ping realized that there was something they had to do. Kamo’s life is in danger as he finds himself entering the waters much to Ping’s distress. Seconds to vanish it would take every once of strength and prayer for him to save his friend from a muddy death.

“Air is life, water is life,” what will they do now when the Ten Thousand Things that harvest life no longer exists? A smell that is so awful fills the air as they come in contact with Curly Tails or Squeelies that have no regard for their environment or the water. As they become aware of their presence they learn as Ping states that they are all creatures and share the water. But, the reaction of these Squeelies is rude as they state that the dirty water flows out of sight. Ping shoots back with how they are uprooting and destroying the balance of diverse plants. How can he convince them and how can he explain what he encountered before his journey and the disturbance in the harmony of Nature’s design? Nature is vital to all of their existences and nature he hopes will always be there for them but not if both animals and humans destroy it. He elaborates by explaining that the future lies on the choices we make and they are right when we create choices that preserve their treasured surroundings. After listening to Ping the Squeelies finally realized what they had done and the wisdom behind Ping’s words. But, how would the balance be restored and why didn’t they know this before as the Squeelies explain their own travels and journey the result and the reasons become clear. As we get to see where they live, what is left of their haven we realize the diminished appearance of these Squeelies and the horror they too have faced.
When the two friends realized what really happened and searched the face of the giant Squeelie, saw his reaction and realized that the trees died, the flora burned and that people need to accept our individual and collective consciousness that everything becomes every thing. Choices: the ones we make and the actions we can we create a better life. Next the author takes us to the Valley of the Paddletails where we find ourselves on labyrinth of trains and difficult mountain passes for Ping to travel across. The cold, the ice, the thin covering to keep him warm and his determination are all he had to find a way to bring back what was lot. What happens will warm not only Ping but readers too as he has a wave of joy and cannot believe his eyes. Hear the whip slap signal of the furry Paddletails and meet his friend Gendo as Ping learn more about the mountains, relates to us how the Paddletails have been the sacred and watchful protectors whose job it is to care for and direct life’s flow. Why did Gendo decide to undertake this pilgrimage? What does Humankind have to do with what happened? Why does Gendo say that we waste what we wish? A powerful statement. Explaining how the Paddeltails build the dams, created their haven and their environment helps readers understand what they did and how far they went to survive. How they stopped the erosion, the way they helped seedlings grow and his understand that creates that live on this earth whether animals or Humankind are to add something or give something in their own way to the beauty and prosperity of all. If only we all understood that and would do that. Look at the sun, the moon and the stars and watch the stars in the sky exist together in Oneness.

What will the final fate of Eden be? Why does Gendo say that only an elevated consciousness can protect the natural world. Read how he learned this and how his mind was awakened. What happens when the climate begins to change? Nature will wait things out. Hopefully conditions will change and things will become what they were before and be normal. The beautiful blue sky is gone and what is left in its place is a haze. But, the time that he has been gone is years and those close to him are gone as he thinks he sees Kamo but in reality it is his son. How will he explain why he’s back? What does Kamo’s son tell him? How will they each pursue their destiny? What is Ping’s final decision where will the journey take him and why? Hope alone he says will not realize destiny, destiny is rooted in the choices and actions of one’s daily life.

In reality we can all learn many lessons not only from Ping and how we need to cherish the land, trees, and the environment and understand Global warming, but we need to respect the space or habitat of animals, other people’s land, understand that our choices will effect others and become more tolerant and understanding. Where does the voice of the mountain guide Ping next? Where is home to him? Why? Make your choice and take a magical journey into the welcoming world of possibilities and understand you can do anything if you make the right choice. Read the epilogue and learn the secret of the shiny stone and more about Ping.

Thought provoking

A simple read but a deep message. The story and epilogue made me reflect. I have to reread all the books again after I complete the 3 books. Short enough for 1 reading yet deep for a while day and more of reflection.

Book Review by: Brittany Perez (Oh My Bookness)

As we all come to find out in some point in our lives, we realize we are never too young or too old to make new discoveries and learn something new, change for the better. The Author, Stuart Avery Gold shares what he has learned and read about in his own novel as well from others, according to what the author has read and heard, the lessons and values are woven through the story of Ping the great journey frog, have become a touchstone for many. The story of ping has reached across all walks of life. It has been through schools, managers giving copies to employees, college teachers quote the actual principals to their students and readers all over the globe.

Ping urgently turns to share a journey guided by his heart…..bringing an important message. As it may be hard to recall what we learned long ago about the ancients and how they believed cosmic breath vades all our life, there is a spiritual knot between mankind and nature. From camp fire to cave drawings tales that have been told through the millennia. For Ping he always made it a practice to never let part of the day go by without going into a stillness of mind, it was his way of connecting with nature. To his surprise, dismay, was the lack of noise, because when you pull one thing from nature you find out its attached to all kind of things, it’s the balance, it’s the nature of life.

As we come to learn, there are two sides to every story, and I mean every story because each side, each cause, has a reason for the ”Why” and are happily blaming each other. You have the Polemic movement of warners and denialist pushing the complexity of the issue with talk about the complexity of the choices and actions that need or don’t need to happen. We need now look at a once healthy planet earth that is looking for help, their lies two sides to every story.

Ping took us an adventure, as if he at any moment would come springing out of those pages, to tell us “No, that’s no what’s supposed to happen, but he does not because along the way as were learning and making new discoveries so is Ping himself. Making new discoveries about climate change, global warming, and how to adapt and survive. Ping as well as the audience gets to see two distinct possibilities of why the events unfold, as mentioned before there are always two sides to every story.

A fitting novel for young adults and adults alike, for as we can learn a lot from Ping the frog, and his adventures. If you take the time to absorb the story and take time to think the events that unfold, you can draw conclusions between today’s world and the global changes taking place.

`Magical journeys into the welcoming world of possibility'

Stuart Avery Gold's books on self-growth and personal performance have changed the way people think about the world and their place in it. Stuart is an award-winning product developer, venerated brand Sherpa and WOW! Wrangler, respected for not simply reacting to the marketplace, but for contributing to one in which people, profits and the planet can all flourish. He is an adviser and meaning-maker for companies and entrepreneurs on leadership, "what's next," and on the differentiating importance of trends, talent and the significance of creating compelling brand experiences.

Gold prefaces this little book about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment with a few words of wisdom: `This is a traveler's tale, meant to awaken the way within, showing the true purpose of the life journey is far more than a mere traveling to survive, as shown through the heroic actions and revealing insight of one Ping the frog.' It is an eco-parable about climate change and the inner responsibility to the outside world.

Ping, wise and friendly frog, lives happily in the pond Eden, contemplative, enjoying the every quiet of everyday repetition, but one day something is different: he notices there are no bees humming. Other remarked there are no dragonflies or ladybugs. `Alarmed, Ping, now full in the knowledge, realized that no more bees meant no more pollination, no more plants, no more food, no more creatures, no more of the Ten Thousand Things.' Ping and his duck friend Kamo set out on an adventure to go upstream to the Pali River where they notice something has happened to the water - the surface is covered with lifeless floating fish and frogs. The two cogitate on the importance of clean water to the persistence of life. `The air and the water flows together interrelated and interdependent. Air is life, water is life. The environment is our mother, our father; it feeds us, nourishes us, and provides us with the Ten Thousand Things the harvest of life that satisfies our needs. The low is the foundation of the high. When one thing interferes with the water, the water becomes dirty, the sky becomes soiled, the creatures tainted. What happens to one thing happens to all.' How the parable come to completion is left for the readers' inspiration. That and an addendum from Gold at book's end, stepping away from parable to message.

This little parable is powerful. Hopefully it will be read by many and stir thought and change if we are to salvage our wounded planet.

The first thing that enters my mind now that I have read this book is IT IS AWESOME. It is about Ping, the frog who sets out in the hope of saving his pond and finding out what is affecting with the environment and nature. Through Pings journey, we are given an insight into his thinking and the conversations he has with some of the other animals he encounters on the way. We are also given an insight into what they think of humans and how our actions are affecting the environment.

The author has subtly conveyed to us the consequences of our actions and shows us that there is more to life than just that person without sounding like he is preaching. The simpleness of the story and the way it is written will make us pause and think, reevaluating our thoughts and ideas. This book will encourage the reader to do something about their life instead of just being laid back about everything. It will inspire the reader to face challenges in their lives with their head held high.

A book worth reading, Pings adventures are inspiring and though provoking in a subtle, non-preaching manner. This should be read by everyone at-least once to stop and evaluate their beliefs and push themselves in a direction of self growth and discovery.

A very awe inspiring book even though it is only 84 pages long. This is the only book I have read in the series but will definitely look out for the others and read them.

The clever use of using Ping the frog to notice and act on the changes that happen around his pond is appealing to any reader. As other animals arrive he asks them while on their travels if they have spotted any differences, especially his long time friend Kamo, the duck, and together form an alliance to put it back as it should be.

The message from the book is a simple one, Mother Nature has ruled and governed the earth well before man and she knows how to solve the problems without any intervention. On the other side of the coin is that someone will do what they think is right for themselves without thinking about the consequences of their actions on others.

A book that everyone should read and it might change their views and help create a better world for everyone. The language and simple explanations make an excellent read and I think it should be introduced to the school curriculum and if the other books are as good as this one, they should be too. The book will cause a lot of debate regarding the best way forward for the planet and nature over money? Please read this book!

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I like the messages presented in the this book. They are coherent, lucid and memorable. The parable of a Frog with infinite wisdom is heart warming, and the writing is much in the style of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The message is especially relevant to the current times, and this book tries to be a call to arms. Where it falls short on imagery, it makes up in a succinct theme. Definitely worth a read, and a great way to start climate change conversations with young children who are just beginning to learn about these concepts. The latter perhaps is the best feature of this book.

~Disclaimer I got this book for free in a giveaway~

This book was not up my alley. I was excited to read something about global warming, but I guess I didn't know what I was getting myself into having not read any of the other Ping books.

This book was pretty heavy handed and I felt like it was trying to hard.

If you are new agey, if you like the other Ping books you'll probably like this. Otherwise, give it a miss.
