History, ancient history catches up with Kate and her two daughters Sarah and Tegan as she heads off to start a new life after her divorce. A haunted house, filled with old memories and evil spirits, the bond between twins, a mysterious stranger, Adrian Martin has written a gripping tale that will keep you riveted. I was hooked within the first few pages. I have a weakness for ghost stories but this turned to be much more than a ghost story.

For a long time into Buried Secrets, I thought I knew where it was going. But the author throws in some intriguing twists that make you want to race through to find out more. Kate’s character and her love for her kids as well as the link between her children have been written very well. I had various theories on how the mysterious stranger was linked to Kate, but I was entirely wrong and the final revelation blew my mind.

Read the book in the evening, and I guarantee that you will be sleeping with the lights on! An imaginative and exciting story, Adrian!

I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Crooked Cat Publishing!
The book I read is named "The Helland Reckoning," but it seems to be the same one listed on Goodreads as "Buried Secrets." Whatever the name, it is an extremely creepy story where the stakes are as high as possible. Katie Tremain is trying to rebuild her life after a bitter divorce. When one of her twin daughters goes missing, she accepts the help of a stranger. And it is this chase to try to save her child that kept me turning the pages. Somehow, the chapters devoted to the police investigation seemed a little out of place, but the main plot more than made up for it. I don't want to give too much away but some parts gave me gooseflesh, despite being a somewhat traditional horror story. If you like to be scared, you must add this to your TBR list now. If you're afraid of the dark... maybe not.
