‘It took a life time for us to fine our true love’ – A radiant memoir!
Author Barbara Beal shares her life love story with Tommy Beal in this sensitive, beautifully rendered memoir, a story that is so involving to the reader that it seems like a novel. The tone of the story is set in the opening lines: ‘Many of us have been in love at one time or another in our lives. We’ve reminisced with friends about our first kiss, our first date, the butterflies we felt in the pit of our stomach when someone swooped in and captured our heart. As a culture I think we are just in love with the idea of love itself. Most meet and fall in love young, high school, college, we are still at ages where we are willing to jump in with both feet and give love a try. Then there are those rare couples you meet who have had a lifetime of love. They met when they were kids, fell in love and spent their lives pouring into one another, best friends, lovers, parents, and eventually grandparents…’ With that sense of universality to which we all can relate, Barbara relates her experience with air pilot to rock bands Tommy Beal from the 1950s to the present.
Barbara’s memoir ignites memories of the past century as she unwinds their relationship over the years. Both had marriages and careers – Barbara in medical service, Tommy as an airplane pilot – and throughout countless incidents in Tommy’s life that were threatening and in Barbara’s challenging, they remained close. ‘We drifted away over time from each other but what we never knew is we were always close by.’ After medical incidents – strokes and heart attacks – the two finally were permanently bonded. Why I wanted to read this is because it's about music and it's the time frame I was growing up as a young adult.
Starts out with Barbara and her neighbor Tommy and just how compatible they are over the school years. They were there for one another throughout the good and bad times. As years go by, he serves in the military and life goes on.
Love hearing about the bands he brought to their tour destinations and the things he had to do to keep the occupants safe while he flew the jet.
Love hearing all about the bands music as they are some of my favorite bands as well. Such funny and touching stories.
Sad to hear of the demise of others from drugs and how it all effected Tommy. Barbara was right there for him when he needed her most, after a medical emergency. Such an entertaining book, so glad I was able to read this one!
Loved hearing about all the bands and what they do now.

I enjoyed the story of Tommy and Barbara. My only criticism is that a few times things were repeated word for word.

I couldn't finish this book. I just found it poorly written.
I wish we could rate a book as DNF instead of giving it a star.
