Getting accidentally pregnant is never a good thing, especially when you are seventeen years old. And it doesn't help if your mother is a pastor at one of the biggest churches in your city…For Janelle, getting kicked out of her parents' house seemed like a blessing in disguise. For most teenagers, the opportunity to live away from your parents, with a rich aunt, sounds like heaven. It was heaven.. until Janelle found out her aunt had her own issues. Between adapting to a new city, and having her aunt as her new guardian, heaven could quickly turn into hell.

This was an interesting read that gives you perspective into the mind of a young 20 something Philly to Atlanta transplant and the various trials and tribulations she faces in navigating her life. Although the heroin seems to feel like a lot of bad things keep "happening" to her, some of the situations she finds herself in are a lesson in decisions. Not only are things crumbling down around her own life at times, but they are falling to pieces in the lives of her estranged mother and her aunt, with whom she resides as well. Janelle is often overwhelmed with her own life's demon's and those burdens that her family, boyfriends and ex boyfriends bring to the table. I found myself wanting to shake Janelle a lot through the read for her choices, but then I guess it wouldn't be a rollercoaster if the ride was easy now would it? I enjoyed my introduction to this new author's perspective and think her target audience will enjoy it as well.
When I read this book, I literally saw bits and pieces of myself in this book. The characters were so relatable to real life circumstances and that's what I like most. For starters Janelle was seventeen and pregnant, and life wasn't the same after that. Moving from one situation to the next that was suppose to be a dream come true turned out all wrong. As life progressed she made better decisions based on past circumstances.
The book was defiantly a page turner, I was in ah from everything that happened. We all have life experiences that prepares us for the future ahead that results in better decision making, and the way we handle certain situations as people. This was a captivating book from beginning to end. The author really knows how to draw you in, leaving the reader wanting more. I suppose a sequel is in the works :) I would love to see what Janelle is up to! A very good book!
Not sure if it's proper etiquette to review your own book, but it's some of my best work-to-date. Great read. Other, non-biased reviews can be found on Amazon!
