Social media. High speed connectivity. Global wireless networks. Welcome to a future where talking with everyone has become the next big thing, and the over use of electronic communication has rendered an entire generation mute. With the voices of the young silenced, laws are passed requiring every muted person to create a new status update on a government approved social media site every few hours in order to keep communication alive. But things are not at all as they seem. And god protect you if you break the rules... This is where Icarus08 finds himself. A young man suffering from insomnia, he spends his nights searching for meaning in a world where everything you could ever want is just a click away, and where his own father is an agent of everything he finds himself hating. Everything changes though when he meets the mysterious Chemical_Queen, a girl who lives on the edge of a cyber-society that has no boundaries, and will make you face every secret you've ever held dear... Status Update Required is a story about the ever evolving role technology plays in our lives taken to a frightening extreme. It follows two characters whose lives have been affected by their world in startling ways, and the friendship that forms between them. It asks the question; just how different are we from our online profiles, and what happens when the real world and cyber world collide?

About the author

Stuart Bull has been telling stories all his life. Whether it be as a dungeon master in table top games or in more professional works, being a story teller has always come naturally to him.

His long and repeated battles with his mental health have given him much insight into these conditions, and these types of issues are a repeated theme in his works.

As a person, he is a self-described massive geek, with passions across a range of entertainment mediums. He continues to hope that at least one of his works will someday be held up amongst the greats of both geek culture and literature canon.

In the meantime, he continues to work out of his UK based, Essex home, where he continues to develop his plans for world domination. Until then he’ll continue to plot with his neighbour’s cat while working on new and exciting projects. This was a read in one sitting sort of book, my only complaint being that it wasn't longer. Good thing it is part of a trilogy.
