Yarns on a life lived at a million miles, from beloved broadcaster, podcaster and go-getter Brodie Kane First up: this is absolutely not a guide to life. I've done some impressive stuff, but I've also slept on the floor of an old Greek man's house and lost my dignity in the Brunei jungle. I say yes to everything this life has to offer - I'm from the 'women can have it all' club - and, boy, have I got the stories to show for it.
From surf-lifesaving to a hungover Army deployment, being broke with a gum infection in Europe, spooning Richie McCaw on a mountain, improvising make-up for Paul Holmes, running my first ultra-marathon and reinventing myself after redundancy: every wild, brilliant and hilarious experience has taught me something new. Whether it's how not to care about being judged, how to fake it till you make it, how to throw yourself into the unknown or how to push through the pit of despair, I've come to love that we are all works in progress. If I fail from time to time, that's okay too.
Open the book of this open book (me). I want to show you the raw, the real and the vulnerable of a full-volume life and how the greatest moments - or at the very least the greatest yarns - come about by just giving it a crack.
Listening to the audio version of this was a real joy. As someone who has never listened to any of Brodies podcasts and largely not familiar with her story this was an enjoyable glimpse into her life. Would highly recommend!
ABSOLUTELY love Brodie Kane and ABSOLUTELY loved her book! This is one of my favourite biographies of this years reads. I laughed and felt the same feelings at time with Brodie and could easily re read this 🤗🥰🫶🏻
Have been waiting for BK’s book to be loaded onto Good Reads! 👏🏼👏🏼 Could not be prouder of my fab friend. In this book she’s vulnerable, real, raw, honest and hilarious - sharing stories that’ll warm your heart, make your cheeks hurt and leave you feeling super inspired. What can’t this super woman do?! ✨
3.5 stars. I listen to two of Brodie’s podcasts so feel like I know her, and have heard some of these stories before in different ways. The book is exactly what I expected - authentic, open book (lol) and no holds barred. Really does feel like you’re sitting down trading stories over a beverage.
If you’re a kiwi girl, you know who Brodie Kane is, you’ve watched her on tv, you’ve heard her on her podcast or on the radio or you follow her on Instagram. So you instantly know how fun she is, the stories she tells and the joy she brings to so many. Her first book does exactly those things, I laughed so much, I cringed and felt her embarrassment and I applaud her for sharing her personal stories. Such an enjoyable read
Amazing! I had been so excited for this book! I’ve always been a fan of BK and this book did not disappoint. I loved all the stories shared, it’s raw, it’s honest, it’s empowering and it’s funny! I resonated with this book in a few ways - particularly loved the stories about running!! Found myself tearing up in the last couple of chapters. Well written, easy read! Thank you Brodie Kane!!
Brodie Kane is a New Zealand Media personality, she has done all sorts from TV, Radio to having her own media company with a number of successful podcasts.
I really enjoyed Brodie's stories she shares in this book, I have always admired her and loved her sense of humour. We are of similar age, whilst our lives have been very different, she is still very much relatable.
Being from New Zealand myself (left 10 years ago) I loved hearing the names of people and places in Brodie's story, really made me feel like I was reading a friend's diary.
This was a quick, light entertaining read with some raw real-life topics along with some hilarious stories too.
This was such a joyful read (well actually, a listen). I was laughing the whole way through and really enjoyed the stories Brodie shared. I didn't think I would enjoy the mish-mash story vibe - I am very much a fan of a chronological memoir, but this was so well written and I feel like you get to hear about every stage of Brodie's life anyway. On the front cover, it says that Kerre Woodham says something along the lines of the book being written like Brodie is talking to her best friend and by the end of the book, you'll wish she was and I think this sums it up perfectly.
This was a great read about the multi-faceted career and life of Brodie Kane. From her upbringing in Christchurch to her Army training to her time a Canterbury University to there radio of TV broadcasting career and the pivot to podcasting and starting her own podcasting production company - so many topics are covered with hilarious antidotes that you never get bored and are usually too busy laughing out loud.
A hilarious portrayal of a life well lived so far! Have been a big fan of Brodie’s since the ‘Girls on Top’ days and a weekly listener to kiwi yarns and girls uninterrupted so this book was as great as I expected. Hilarious story’s I laughed out loud several time! And some good life lessons throughout!
my name sake sister! this book was fkn funny and well written! I literally read it in Brodies voice and felt like she was reading to me hahaha. Such a cool life story full of adventure and wild tales! Proud of her tbh, she’s done epic shit AND single for the bulk of her life, hello twin???! share name and love life????? 💅🏼
I read this book on a long haul flight, some of it is so funny and my army friends and I have laughed about the jungle story so much! I’m definitely pleased I read the book before listening to the podcasts about it!
Would recommend - especially if you like to run #safetyplod
Great read! If you’re a fan of BK you’ve gotta read this. Even if you haven’t heard of BK you’ll still be entertained. Great stories of a life lived at 100miles an hour. Inspirational and funny. A book you can knock off in a week.
Such a brilliant book!! I just read the whole thing in 24 hours, I couldn’t put it down. I laughed out aloud and had tears in my eyes from start to finish. What a wonderful journey through Brodie’s life, ups and downs, told in a beautiful and such a relatable way. Highly recommend!
Incredibly honest, raw and hilarious all wrapped into one beautiful memoir, better described as a collection of yarns! All about some wild experiences and giving everything a nudge. Would recommend the audiobook - hilariously narrated by Brodie herself.
Hilarious, relatable (well, maybe not the Paris shower story!) and such a good yarn. I listened to the audiobook and it was fabulous. Loved Brodie’s honesty about all the high and lows of a life where she has achieved so much.
This is full of hilarious yarns. I think audiobook was a great shout with Brodie narrating. The chapter on running was so good and so relatable, esp how hilly the Queenstown marathon is (the hill at Lake Hayes 😂, took me straight back).
I love listening to Brodie's podcasts, she's a wonderful storyteller. I could absolutely hear her voice through these pages. This book left me in tears - tears of laughter and tears of sadness. This book is well written and easy to read - thank you, Brodie.
Absolutely loved Brodie's book. Read it within a day, it was like she was actually in my living room, having a yarn with me, telling me all her stories in person, couldn't put her book down. Thanks for the giggles along the way too.
Loved this book ! From the first chapter I knew it was going to be a hoot ! Brodie wrote things that just totally made sense . I have followed Brodie for a long time on social media I could hear her voice reading to to me . Highly recommend
I’ve always loved Brodie’s bubbly, extroverted personality portrayed on tv - and so this audiobook, narrated by herself, did not disappoint. I too am prone to a bit of tmi sharing, so I loved the heck out of her yarns. Totally relatable!!
This book was okay... I liked some of the messages behind her stories but overall I think the writing was just too casual for me and it felt somewhat repetitive. Huge respect for her strong opinions and standing up for what she believed.
Some cracking yarns. Very funny. As another 38 year old who is chronically single- but not unhappy about it, the yarns feel relatable. I'm ready to sign up for that Melrose Place single ladies Commune!
New it would be a Great read!! ,so funny and inspiring to always live life to your fullest. Hoping now Brodie can meet the buff dream boy with a heart of gold x
