I did not like this and I won't be reading the next one.

description

Why you say? ***SPOILERS***

In a nutshell:

Jo, our "heroine" [insert sarcasm] is down on her luck, has had a bad family life, and has some kind of massive hang up with men, yadda yadda yadda (EXCEPT from the moment she meets our "hero' Colt, of course).

This hang up is not explained and, while I'm sure it's awesomely eye roll worthy legit, I don't actually have enough interest in continuing reading to find out what this idiot's trauma is.

description

Yes, yes, how awful of me.

description

What annoyed me about this story is that Jo believes that Colt has a girlfriend [insert mandatory heinous bitch girlfriend who is so awful, it renders it "acceptable" for potential cheating].

Still, Jo is just SOOOOO drawn to him despite said girlfriend and aforementioned man hang-up that, of course, even though she only sees him at the gym in passing (with a few bag hitting sessions sprinkled in) for the length of time it takes to get one paycheck at a new job, she actually refers to Colt as, wait for it, the LOVE OF HER LIFE.

description

description

Not only that, but when Colt tries to "explain" to Jo the situation with the girlfriend - the relationship is obviously some publicity stunt. Or some kind of blackmail. Or Colt's famous boxer father is forcing him to date her for appearances. Or [insert another reason why Colt is being dramatically "forced" to date a third party so there is the prerequisite conflict and drama]...

description

Oops, again I digress. Where was I?

Oh, right...So while Colt is kind of, sort of, not really, explaining the situation, he mentions having had strong feelings for yet another girl (who was similar to Jo) six months prior to Jo, which ended in him being emotionally out of it and led him to losing a string of fights.

description

So, not only is he kind of almost "cheating" on his supposed girlfriend with Jo, but he had "strong feelings" for another Jo-like gym rat not to long ago too.

description

I think it's pathetic that Jo - who supposedly has shown no interest in men up to this - is even interested in Colt at this point.

Cause I'm not.

description

And while I'm sure all of these things are explained in the next installments, I just don't care enough to buy serial installment after serial installment to find out.

One of the best serials that I've ever read! I've had this in my e-library for a while but have been putting off reading it because I'm in the middle of so many other series right now. I was looking for something quick to read, that I could finish in one sitting tonight, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I am soooo glad that I did! This book was fantastic!

It has passion, drama and angst galore. With a bad-boy MMA fighter, a drag queen best friend and a bitchy bombshell to round out the cast of characters, how could it be anything but wonderful!?!

The only downside, kind of, is that I'm addicted now and will not be able to stop at book 1 tonight! Love it!

hmmm...what to say and not to destroy the suspence...aaaa, fuck it...I can't!

ok, in short, and it's a novella, btw, so we both gotta be short...

The story is nothing new actually, we've all read smth similar from time to time BUT still it's the build up and the mistery of the events slowly unraveing that hooked me, through and through

Jo Jones is a 20 year old girl, who knows her way on the streets...she is in a desperate need of a job and she's pawned her last piece of connection to her family...

On her way back to the lousy appartment, she 's being surrounded by a bunch of high oh mighty jerks...and wonder as it is she actually fights them off BUT in the nick of time, a "Golden boy" comes to save the day.

"Golden boy" being a prosperous MMA fighter who trains in the local gym.
The pull between is obvious but Jo is reclusive and she pulls away...but noticing the advertising on the gym "help wanted" makes all the reclusivness expire and she makes a decision to suck it up and seek it out. Jo stays away from people, especially men, the only contact with the opposite sex she has with her friend, a transvestite Zero. So the instant attraction she feels towards this fighter makes her wanna jump out of her skin BUT she somehow connects him with the only "bright" memory of her late father.

The proximity to her "golden boy" makes her feel emotions that she shoves under the word "crush" BUT he sees something else in her, he recognises the dive, the hunger and the secret talent Jo evidently poses. He challenges her to start training...

not only that Jo's waking up, she's straigthning her body and her broken spirit as well...and she can't hide under her hoodie any longer...

they can't hide the attraction, but "golden boy" Colt "Gunner" McClure is in a more complicated situation then the simple words can explain...

and there's so much more at stake...

it's a cliffy...and it continues in book 2

hell this book was a

wait, let do this again

Huge fan of MMA and an even bigger fan of romance novels with an MMA lead. After finishing JJ Knight’s first series, I was in withdrawals and wanted more from her. STAT! Wasn’t expecting something so great, so soon after, but boy did she deliver!

*whispers* I may even love Colt more than Dylan!

Colt "Gunner" McClure, makes a great first impression when he crosses paths with our leading lady, Jo. This stranger somehow makes her feel safe and protected and that translated well with me.
Jo isn’t your happy-go-lucky, young lady. There’s mystery and intrigue behind her. I get the sense that something tragic has happened to her, but she works hard to keep it at bay. I instantly loved this character who I can tell is more than meets the eye.

Jo is desperately seeking a job to support herself. She has barely enough bread and peanut butter to make a sandwich for herself. Luckily, the odds are in her favor and she lands a job at the very same gym where the sexy MMA fighter, Colt, trains.

Colt sees something in her. Strength? Resilience? Passion? Whatever it is, he believes in her and it’s clear as day that he’s drawn to this woman.
Same goes with Jo. She’s always been anti-male, but this guy has her heart thumping like mad and butterflies straight from their cocoons flying around in her belly.

“I’m lost and I know it. It’s the first time I’ve actually looked at someone and thought he might be for me. That instead of being in trouble, I might be safe with him.”

The supporting characters all have their own stories to tell. Just like Knight’s previous series, all the characters capture the reader’s interest effortlessly.
Zero, Jo’s best and only friend is supportive and energetic. A nice ying to Jo’s yang. Polar opposites but besties nonetheless.
Brittany, Colt’s girlfriend/friend, whatever she may be, is a huge factor in the story. I’m eager to see what her motives are and exactly what part she plays overall.

I’m quickly catching on to the fact that JJ Knight LOVES cliffhangers and having mysterious characters. Fortunately, so do I! I’m already hooked to this series and ready to take another journey through this newest series.

ARC provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review.

Uncaged Love is the latest serial from JJ Knight and it is off to blazing start. I was hooked in the very first paragraph and could not put this installment down until the last page. JJ picked the perfect place to end this installment – with a cliffhanger that keeps the reader wondering what is going to happen next. She creates characters that have an air of mystery. We get a small insight into their personality and drives, but not enough to figure out who this character is and what their secrets are.

We meet Jo, a girl down on her luck and out of work. She is very guarded and hides her looks behind an oversized hoodie. We get the distinct impression that she has extreme trust issues where men are concerned. She makes it a point to steer clear of men and avoid confrontation at all costs. While avoiding a confrontation on the street, she is rescued by a beautiful golden boy on a motorcycle.

Not only does this golden boy rescue Jo from the rats on the streets, he also leads her to her future job at the gym. Not only has he saved her in the moment, but also saved her immediate future existence.

Colt McClure is a MMA fighter training at Buster’s gym. He is living in his famous boxing champion father’s shadow. His fighting record is marred and his father has stepped in and secured a new training arrangement. It is obvious from the beginning that there is bad blood between Colt and his famous father. It is also obvious that Colt has a ton of secrets and has staged his training arena to mask the truths behind his career.

With multiple twists and turns the story begins to unfold. We get to experience the combustible attraction between Colt and Jo. We are introduced to other characters that are friends and foe. There is Jo’s best friend Zero, a drag queen. There is Brittany, the female MMA fighter who has her clutches in Colt. There is Lani, a female gym rat that has befriended Jo.

There is one scene in this book that tickled me pink. This scene is at a benefit where our favorite rock star (non other than Dylan Wolf from the Revenge series) is performing. This particular scene had an impact on the Revenge series as well as on the Uncaged Love series. I love when an author intermixes her characters and series.

I loved the beginning of this serial. It had the right amount of intrigue to keep the reader hooked. I am looking forward to the second installment on April 25, 2014.

There has always been a special place in my reading heart for fighters/boxers/etc. And also a special place for girls/women who are survivors of rough pasts. The start of this serial didn't disappoint in either of these areas!

It's obvious that Jo has had a really rough past, even if we don't quite understand everything that has happened to her yet. But there's a fighter buried underneath her jeans and oversized sweatshirts.

Colt is an MMA fighter, but he seems to be losing his touch in the cage. He's hot and cold, and confusing the crap out of Jo, who hasn't felt one iota of 'good thoughts' about any man in the last 3 years, until now.

And I can't leave out Zero! He may be a secondary character, but he's important, and is a freaking hoot! :) Once you get to know him, you realize it's no wonder he's Jo's best friend.

Can't wait to read the next one!

3.5 Stars. Jo is a (justifiably) misanthropic young woman with the spirit of a fighter and a best friend who is a rather awesome sounding drag-queen.* And then, one day, she meets a man who not only doesn't want to hurt her but sees potential hiding under her massive hoodie and reclusive ways. Just enough angst to be enjoyable, but not sickening. Humorous writing too.

"I laugh out loud. Colt has told me once again that I’m beautiful. And I’m in a men’s bathroom at a drag show dressed as a man pretending to be a woman. The love of my life has just answered the phone for the woman HE supposedly loves. Who is cheating on him.

I don’t think there’s a Facebook status for this."

And not even a lame cover in sight.

*More of Zero in the next one, pretty please?

I received this book as ARC for an honest review! JJ Knight has done it again! I loved her Revenge series and this is the start of another amazing story. It’s about Jo and Colt, an MMA fighter. Jo has been in LA for 3 years, she’s afraid of men but has one friend, Zero, who is a drag queen. Zero does shows a Zerobia. Jo meets Colt who changes her life. She had no job or money and he helped her get a job the gym where he trains as a MMA fighter. I don’t want to reveal any spoilers but the chemistry between the two of them is HOT!

Uncaged Love is a strong start to an impressive new series by J.J. Knight. This is definitely a series people need to read. Jo is a wonderful, strong female. Oh and Colt is amazing too! I can't wait to see Jo evolve into the fighter she is. Will she be Colt's new muse??? I guess we will soon find out. I loved every minute of this book! Thank you J.J. for a strong new series. I'm ready for the next one.

Thanks to the author, I was allowed to read a complimentary copy of part 1 of this new series for an honest review. This is the beginning of another five-part serial story by J.J. Knight, keeping in the same method as her recent series, Revenge. I don’t mind this method of writing and publishing at all because with this author, the parts are published quickly and each part is a quick read. At the price of .99 per part, you are paying no more for the five part series than you would for a full novel. Just to make certain for the sake of clarity, if you do not want to read with cliff-hangers, you should wait until all five parts are published.

On to the story. This is a story of girl who has obviously had a traumatic past. We get to know Jo in the first part, but we don’t yet learn her secrets. As the story progresses, we see just how much her past seems to impact her current life. She begins to realize her feelings for Colt but can’t wrap her head around the fact that he may be interested. Colt’s actions away from Jo don’t do anything to help her doubts. The story takes you into the MMA fighting world but we are only just beginning to see the full workings of that world. I think there will be much more to come in the future parts of the series.

I enjoyed this beginning of the new series tremendously. I loved the relationship between Jo and her friend Zero. I am anxiously awaiting the progression of the series so that we can learn more about Jo and the reasons that she is alone and so withdrawn. It will be interesting to see more of Colt and his MMA world. Great start by J.J. Knight to the new series. Five stars!

I wasn't expected a new book by JJ Knight that soon since the release of her last installment of the Revenge series was pretty recent.

The female character, Jo is an introvert. She hides behind baggy clothes and hoodies, she isn't confident, she doesn't socialize, she doesn't even talk much. Her only friend is a drag who forces her out of her shell sometimes. She may have a past and hopefully more about her will be revealed in the subsequent installments.

She meets Colt by chance and from that ride on his Harley, she felt a connection. Maybe it was because it reminded her of some stuffs she did with her dad but as each day went by that she interacted with Colt, the connection felt deeper. She started feeling flutters for the first time.

Colt saw that Jo was capable for more than she thought of herself and he began by helping her secure a job at the gym. He encouraged her to observe the boxing trainings and practice whenever possible. Colt is a MMA fighter himself but he isn't performing well. He has secrets and some emotional baggage. Definitely looking forward to reading more about Colt. I'm already intrigued and feeling some flutters myself.

I reckon this series will be edgier since it is about MMA fighters. I was pleasantly surprised to see Dylan Wolf in the story. The suspense of the story continues as it ends with a cliffhanger. However JJ Knight is a pretty fast writer which I am happy to know.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC and these are my honest thoughts about Uncaged Love #1

Jo is about to become a homeless, unemployed woman but she is not giving up. In order to have a fighting chance to put herself back on track, she makes the painful decision of pawning her grandma's frog charm not knowing how her life will change forever as soon she comes out of that Pawn Shop. Jo is about to be assaulted by a group of guys that claims to own the street that she was walking, but she is no defenseless and even when a knight in a shiny motorcycle came to her rescue, she had already saved herself. Colt is a mixed arts fighter who is training for his next event while trying to come to terms with his career choices. Their chance encounter rattle both of them, Jo start to feel like her luck is changing for the better and Colt is fascinate by her and offer to help when she comes by the gym looking for work. We get to know Jo's best and loyal friend Zero and in the gym where Colt trains, there is a family-like dynamics between our central characters, fellow trainers, owner and clientele. Colt and Jo's attraction grows but the famous fighter attracts not only avid fans but the media. Will they have a chance to have a normal relationship or will it change and fade when the media gets involved? J.J.Knight keeps getting better and better and even rewards her fans with little glimpses of beloved characters from previous series. I can't wait for the next installment of Uncaged Love!

Series: Uncaged Love #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports
Received from: J.J. Knight (in exchange for an honest review)
Recommended for: 16+ due to violence
Grammar/editing: A – near perfect

This is the first release in a serial story being meted out in the same fashion in which Stephen King originally released THE GREEN MILE. I was one of the intrepid fans stalking the book store every few weeks for that series and am just as eagerly chasing this series.

This is a perfectly paced contemporary romance centered around a gym where Colt McClure, son of the famous traditional boxer “The Cure” McClure, is training in MMA. While intervening for Jo when she is being attacked on the streets near the gym, he sees a natural, raw talent in the struggling-to-survive girl and puts in a good word for her at the gym, securing a job for her. Sparks fly around the little hurricane that is Jo’s temper, lightning quick and dangerous.

I cannot wait to find out what happens next. What is the story between Colt and Brittany? Can Colt and Jo embrace the desires that surround them in the gym and in each other?

As a martial artist, myself, I was impressed with the descriptions of the fights as given. I felt myself moving to the instructions, facing off with friend and foe, and itching to resume my own workouts. I also remember, very well, the humiliation and pain of the punch that made it through my defense. Very well done, J.J. Knight!

This new trend of short novellas is frustrating when the first book isn't completely riveting, which this book sadly is not all that great. Starts off with a great deal of promise though. Jo is one step away from being homeless, pawns her favorite necklace just to pay her rent. She has one lone friend in the city & it sounds like she has some secrets from her past, secrets so bad that she hides within herself. Even covering herself with her hoodie & attempting to fade into the background Jo still draws attention as a beautiful woman. While fighting off some bad men outside of the pawn shop Colt saves her & whisks her away on his motorcycle. Jo is surprised by her body's instant reaction to Colt, so unlike the disgust she normally would feel, far from it. It appears Jo has her first crush! And Colt, the gorgeous MMA fighter bad boy, gets Jo a job at his gym. I think he saw something more than Jo's beauty - he watched her fight & knew she had potential. Then the book dissolves a bit, Colt is seeing another female fighter, or is he? Then why do the sparks fly when Colt is around Jo & why does he kiss her? And why does she let him when she seems to have boy issues from her past? Colt is semi-famous as a son of a very famous boxer and that is a whole other issue. Just ok, not really enough to make me rush out & buy book #2.

All in 1 Review

A 5 volume series that basically revolves around the love story of Colt and Jo and those who are against it. Yep, nothing original but since I know a thing or two (or more) about MMA and I try my best to religiously follow the latest UFC fights, intrigue gets the best of me. Let me just clarify, the 3-star rating is just for this volume alone. This review, however, is for all 5 installments.

The first 2 books are good. The intrigue, excitement, and the giddy-factor are there. Book 3, I start finding it too predictable and would say the luster is not sustained. I honestly don't understand why does it have to be a 5 volume series when everything can be squeezed in to three. Then again, marketing, sales, and business come into mind. I am not so much impressed with the fight scenes. Yes, my expectations are a little high but who would want so-so, right? The dilemmas are predictable. I am not convinced with the antagonists. I am not affected by them. Definitely saying something. Book 4 - the sex scenes become more and more and I see them more as fillers and not as significant part of the books.

No, the whole series is not bad. It's okay. If you're looking for a fun read, this could be for you. Also, before I forget, once you start with book 1, you just have to keep going. And I feel like I need to add whether you like it or not.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I received my email with this ARC I found myself groaning. I just knew that JJ Knight was about to sucker me in yet again and I was correct. I loved Uncaged and now I want more. .....pretty please!

We start out with Jo. She is a girl who prefers to be hidden in the shadows. Dressing in jeans and oversized hoodies to hide from the world, especially men. It's the only way for her to deal with her severe trust issues towards men. When she is accosted on the sidewalk by several men a hero steps in to help.

Her "golden boy" turns out to be MMA fighter Colt McClure. For the first time she isn't scared of a man and Jo has no idea what to do with that. When she starts working at the gym where he is training their attraction for each other is obvious to everyone by Jo. Her low self esteem keeps her guarded and sometimes hard to approach.

Colt has his own issues going on. There were a few twists and turns involved that left me curious as to how the rest of this series is going to proceed. And as usual with JJ Knight I got left with one heck of a cliffhanger.

So for now I will proceed to count down for number two. (sigh)

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Why did it have to stop there!!!

In JJ Knights newest series, we follow Jo Jones as she tries to figure out how to get a paycheck. She meets Colt 'Gunner' McClure right after she sells her Grandmother's necklace to a pawnshop.

Colt is a MMA fighter that is now training at the gym right across from the cafe; that Jo's friend Zero works at.

Jo has not had the best history with men and would rather hide herself in her hoodies than get close to anyone. She slowly lets Colt in only to be blindsided by Colt's supposed girlfriend, Brittany.

I love the secondary characters, Lani (the girl at the gym that starts to help Jo train to fight), Zero aka Zerobia (who is a cross dresser and loves to perform at drag shows), and Buster (the gruff owner of the gym). We get to see Dylan from the Revenge series during one of Zerobia's shows.

Jo does not understand her beauty and strength and tries to hide and avoid all relationships. I am really hoping that the fighting and Colt help her understand both and she brings forth the person that everyone knows she is hiding.

I already hate Brittany and do not really like Colt at the end of this volume. I hope that everything will be sorted out between the three of them soon.

This book is awesome and I have really feel in love with this author and her books. I just wish I could write a book like this. I can already tell that this is going to be a great series and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I will just be going crazy waiting for the next book.

Jo has been on the run since she was seventeen and she has only one friend, Zero. She doesn't trust men and you don't really get to see much into her mind and what secrets she is hiding. From the first time that Colt McClure saved her from some thugs.

Cole is a rising MMA fighter and had to take some time off. Not many people know what he had to do that. When he sees Jo fighting, he starts seeing the potential female fighter that she could become. I could go crazy trying to find out what is going through Cole's mind. He keeps going hot and cold.

Just when you thought you were going to get somewhere the book is done and you wonder what in the world is going to happen next. I haven't seen this tension between two people in a while. I just want Jo to start having some good luck and be the hurricane that she can be when she starts fighting.

This story was sweet and short. I needed it at the time I read it. And I’m going to be honest. I hadn’t expect this much from this book. And I wasn’t even sure that I was going to read the other parts of these series. But I did and I did it in less than a week. And I even read other books while reading these series. I was completely taken by this book!

It’s about Colt and MMA fighter who had his heart broken a few months back. He hasn’t been fighting ever since. But when he rescues a girl who’s in trouble his world completely changes. He makes sure she gets a job at the gym he’s training at and the girl has more in her than just working there. When he starts training Jo his hearts skips a beat and he doesn’t even know why. She isn’t like his ex-girlfriend but change can do you good.

This book made me think of the song ‘Wild One’ by Florida. This book was worth 4 stars. I really loved it. After reading this one, I wasn’t holding back to read the others!

“Show you another side of me
A side you would never thought you would see
Tell that body
Gotta make sure do you have enough
I can't lie
The wilds don’t lie”

Another great series by J.J. Knight!

Jo is just an shy girl struggling to make ends me in LA, she afraid of men and has a drag queen as he best friend. Jo and Zero have a great friendship and he can tell that something is different about her lately. She has fallen for the "Golden Boy", MMA fighter Colt McClure. Jo had no idea who he was when she ran into him after pawning off her grandmothers necklace. A group of slugs were bothering her, she was defending herself and Colt stepped in and helped her out. Jo was falling fast, but with her fear of men, she was unsure how to act around him. Colt ends of getting Jo a job at the gym where he is training. Jo becomes more comfortable around Colt and as she lets her guard down and gets close she finds out the he has a girlfriend. What Jo doesn't know is that she's not really a girlfriend, it's complicated. Once again J.J. Knight leaves us with a cliffhanger, wanting more! I can't wait to read Uncaged Love Volume 2!

Another great start to a new 5 part series. This story is about Colt McClure a MMA fighter with a famous father that was a boxer and his need to prove he is a champion. Then we have a shy girl, Jo who has lived in LA for 3 years. She has no one as family, but does have a drag queen friend named Zero. We met the beginning of Colt and Jo when she is harassed on the street and he rescues her. She see him go into Buster's Gym and find a Help Wanted sign taped to the window. She applies and get the job, and considering she has been unemployed it is an answer to her prayers. You can't help but fall in love with the characters and yet there is still so much mystery. I really liked have Dylan Wolf was brought into the book at a charity event. Of course, Dylan Wolf is the lead male character in the Revenge 5 part series. Once again, JJ Knight has left us with a cliffhanger! But that is a great part to the books! This book was a gift from the author for an honest review. I honestly enjoyed it and look forward to Uncaged Love Volume 2.
