I love Ethan’s character and Lycos had always been one of my favorites, but Star’s character killed the book for me.
She was too off-the-wall; too klutzy and just down right annoying. I found it difficult to stay engaged in the story with the excessive mishaps and Star-induced chaos. She was exhausting.
I hope the next book redeems my faith in this series.
Throne of Secrets is book three in the Guardian Security Dynasty series that had me laughing out loud multiples times while also keeping me on the edge of my seat.
Star is accident prone, she attracts trouble like a magnet. She's inherited a nice old Victorian home from a distant uncle she didn't even know she had, which she's trying to restore in its old glory. Unfortunately little accidents just keep happening: getting stuck, dropping paint, you name it. Fortunately for her she's got her gorgeous neighbor Ethan who's jumped to her rescue more than once.
Ethan, whom we've first met as a young boy in Lycos, has grown up. He's been groomed to take over the digital side of Guardian. For years he's had a secret mentor teaching him everything he needs to know and challenging him with puzzles to solve. Right from the start when meeting Star he's fallen for her. He loves her quirkiness, her chaotic mind, even her habit of getting into trouble.
He's been saving her from little accidents which Star lovingly calls the Star Curse but when she accidentally overhears and records a message she shouldn't have and becomes a target, all bets are off and Ethan jumps into protection mode. No one will harm the woman he's come to love.
I loved how their relationship slowly turned from friendship into love, growing really deep when Star gets kidnapped and Ethan needs to use his talent to find her. Amidst Mafia wanting to set foot in their town, getting kidnapped and a serial killer, they've got their hands full.
This series is quickly becoming another favorite and I can't wait for Jinx's story that's up next.
I loved the book, and especially Ethan’s story, but I’m still trying to comprehend this new view of Guardian. I feel like we, the readers, missed something along the way. I think ten years is too big a jump. But the story and characters are great.
I do want to give the author kudos for her attention to detail in the characters’ travel around NYC. Many times when I read books about the city, the authors change things around. They invent streets that don’t exist, they take existing streets and put them in the wrong parts of the city, or move streets that are normally parallel and have them intersect. They even move landmarks to the wrong places. I do appreciate the author’s license to create mew locals and setting,s (I.e., this author’s town of Holistwr, ND.), but I think when a setting is a real place, it should be accurately represented. Here, Kris Micheals did her research and was completely accurate. The chase scene from Cortelyou, to Beverly, to Ocean, to Coney Island Ave, was so correct that I could picture the streets and surroundings as if I were in the car with them. As a Brooklynite I greatly appreciated her attention to detail.
I can’t wait for the next installment. But, I warn readers, if you haven’t read any of the previous books, you will get lost. Each book in the Guardian series depends on the previous books. I don’t recommend them as stand alones.
Throne of Secrets by Kris Michaels is book three in the Guardian Legacy series. It is a journey into the life of Ethan Wolf no longer the boy we met in Lycos. (Guardian Security Shadow World Book 3) He is now a full-grown man with a mission to guard the Guardian world from behind his computer screen. However, it's not a Guardian mission that demands he comes out from behind his computer, it's the love that he's developing for his neighbour Star. Star is an accident waiting to happen and finds herself regularly in need of Ethans help. The story is equally nail biting and warming as their relationship develops. I said in my last review of Kris Michaels books that she doesn't write good books, she writes truly amazing, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, books and series. This book proves that to be true again. Kris writes books in a world that is like a series of spider webs, you just think you've reached the outer limit of a web only to find yourself at the centre of another. This makes each of the series a must-read. I wholeheartedly give Throne of Secrets 5 stars and can't wait for the next book.
I just want to scream about this book, the author, this series and THESE characters!
Star and Ethan were perfect for each other, Star is the lightness to Ethan’s increased responsibilities within the Guardian world (when Ethan found out who his mentor has been…I did a happy little dance)
Star’s curse had me laughing out loud and I must say Ethan was brave to take her on, brave or as we read in love. I like how the relationship was friends to lovers and not insta love 🙌🏼
This story starts of slowly, but when the action starts, it’ll grip you, hold you and won’t let go. I adored seeing what Lycos does best when he helps Ethan, this author always writes relationships so well, and this is no different when we read about Ethan and his dad, so much so I’ve now gone back to the original series when we first met Ethan as a boy.
I recommend reading Lycos and Maximus if you are jumping into this book, of course I recommend the WHOLE series, we’re onto the next generation now and there are ALOT of books within the Guardian World, have fun and jump into this book or even better go wayyyyy back and jump into book 1
I am so conflicted. I loved Ethan and his story arc, just like I loved Max. I was so invested in this one. Unfortunately, I could not deal with Star. She was annoying, frustrating, and honestly, I wouldn't trust her with a potato, let alone in the same house as arguably one of the most important members of guardian. I cannot fathom how their relationship will work and how she will support Ethan in the challenges he will face. I fear for the future of guardian since she is a full time job all on her own, that requires constant supervision. I sincerely hope he never tells her anything about his job since she won't understand the importance of keeping quiet.
I was disappointed with their love story, I felt like his interest in her was juvenile, and there is no connection, especially intellectually, other than he finds her cute. He carries an incredibly heavy burden, and it would have been great if he found someone as strong and smart as he was, someone who could support, challenge and help him, instead of another person depending on him to the extent of a pet or a child.
Love the series and the characters, but this one was a hit and miss.
Throne of Secrets is the next book in the Guardian Dynasty and is an absolutely spectacular read❣️
Ethan has been working with a mentor for a while now, but he doesn’t know who it is. He set himself up in New York on the outskirts in a small town (his mentor picked) which is quiet and where there’s not a lot of crime. Six months ago, his neighbour Star moved in and he wants to ask her out, but everytime he does…something happens - or more like she happens 😂
Star is quite literally a walking trouble magnet…she doesn’t look for trouble, it just finds her…she calls it the Star curse. Ethan, her very sexy and smart neighbour, always seems to help her out when she finds herself in these precarious situations..and now she will need his help even more after she records a conversation she shouldn’t have😳
Loved it and I loved the little intro to Jinx at the end…can’t wait for more Guardians❤️
I have never read a bad book by Kris Michaels and that includes this one. Ethan has long been a favourite character, now grown up and established in his career it's time for him to find love and Star has been so expertly drawn that I smiled and laughed my way through most of the book. For readers new to the Guardian series it really is best to read the series in order, that way you get the best reading experience. I have felt a little adrift reading the next generation, not the least because most characters were adorable kids in the original series, and in my heart they still are. However, I can adapt, mostly because the author is so highly skilled at drawing characters and creating a believable world with the right balance of show and tell. If you like romance, danger, intrigue and action you will likely enjoy the Guardian series.
Accidents may happen occasionally for normal people, and there may be "tragic accidents" for the targets of Guardians Shadows. But Star has an unnatural ability to attract accidents, chaos and calamity, she is rarely injured herself but unfortunately for Ethan, as her rescuer, he is usually the injured party! I really like Star, even if her world is unbelievably accident prone, she is smart, sassy, hilarious and exactly what Ethan needs to keep him in his toes. I love the relationship they have and the love they find, the ease with which he is able to navigate the dangers she attracts is also a bonus! This Dynasty series is awesome, we get to see the next generation stepping up and it is fantastic to see them all grown up and taking hold of the reigns.
Loved the story of Ethan and Star. Ethan’s klutzy neighbour has attracted Ethan for months and he finally makes his move only to find Star is a magnet for trouble…the Star curse as her now deceased Dad had coined her caps it’s where she was in thr thick of it. She had inherited a rickety old man Uncle who before he died lived and prospered under the transactions. Things in Star’s life go down hill when while in New York she discovers a body obviously dismembered in a trash can in an alley. Ethan has been groomed by the mysterious Max to take over to be Guardian’s “eyes everywhere” when Max retires. Love Ethan’s wolf dog still going strong in his old age also, Lycos and Bethanie are featured prominently in the 3rd book in the Guardian Security Dynasty Book 3.
Star thinks she's cursed because of the things that happen to and around her, renovating a Victorian house she was gifted by a long lost relative she knew nothing about, she's lucky it hasn't fallen down around her, and her hot neighbor has rescued her several times before from disaster, Ethan the computer wizard for Guardian has eyes everywhere including on his sexy neighbor, working together after a mishap fall into the nasty goo of death, can Ethan save Star from the unsavory underworld she found herself unexpectedly in, with the help of old friends who happens to be his dad we see Lycos again, the shadow has never lost his touch, they say opposites attract, well Ethan and Star are a cosmic match made by the heavens, if he can survive her curses, LOL, Kris Michaels simply outstanding, I love their story, thank you so very much for what you do, Dana Zamora
OMG! Whoa! Kris has done it again! This story is about Ethan and Star and Thor of course. Star is one hilarious woman. She will definitely keep you laughing and make your heart light. She is definitely accident-prone. The beginning is definitely hilarious when she gets stuck on her roof and Ethan comes to her rescue. As the story progresses, we see this couple come together. It's unfortunate that Star finds big trouble in the big city when her being there catches the serial killer eye but Ethan and his dad come to her rescue. It's amazing that Star and Ethan move to be with his parents. It's unfortunate that her house is no longer marketable. So happy that this couple got together and they found their happy ending. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book!
Ethan is all grown up and now meets his match in Star who is an accident waiting to happen
Star is living her life one accident to the next but not they involve people who want to hurt or kill her. Ethan has been trying to ask her out for months but some kind of catastrophe always interfers. They both have feelings for the other, just never voiced them. When she is kidnapped while on date with Ethan, he will stop at nothing to get her back and take care of the guys who took her. Will he find her before anything happens to her?
I love how Ethan is so protective of Star even before they decide to date. He is always there when she needs help. Even his dog Thor is very protective of her.
Another layer of Guardian's second generation reveals itself. When Ethan was first introduced, he was a precocious boy who finds out he has twin badass older brothers, and can spar with them verbally immediately. Game play, challenges, and all types of training turn him into the support for a significant part of Guardian's infrastructure. However, he is training for something else. While living in New York, he meets his unusual neighbor, Star. She is pretty, kind, and the owner of what she calls the Star Curse. Most of what she does or touches explodes or falls on her head. She also admits to having no filter, so everything comes out of her mouth. Amazingly, he falls in love with her. Unfortunately, there's way more trouble ahead.
Oh my Ethan and Star what a couple what a journey. Day and night. Ethan secretive dangerous, dedicated and off grid as far as his work. Quit didn't mind being by himself well until the neighbor next door moved in. Star a walk walking moving accident.....cursed thing happen in almost every move she made. She tried to stop the things that happen but it only made it worst. He couldn't help it he loved her want her. She fell for him but was determined to finish what she started but ....it never happen only accidents. She stumbled in to danger with bug bad people not just once but three times they all coukd cist her her life. The danger the suspense and the laughter yes laughter makes a great read
I have loved Ethan since we first met him and have enjoyed watching him grow. I was excited for him to get his story. Star is adorable and hilarious as a walking disaster who turns out to be just what Ethan needs. The way she rambles when she is nervous was very entertaining, particularly in the more inappropriate times when she did it. Ethan’s steady demeanor and methodical approach along with help from his two greatest and most trusted influences truly saved the day. Getting a little more Lycos is always a good thing, and Thor was a true scene stealer in this one. I enjoyed this story so much, and it was the perfect next chapter in this new part of such a fabulous series.
I've read all of Kris Michaels stories and have the Guardians the most. You know when you start to read a story like these and learn that it's part of a series, you've hit the jackpot! Now that the kids have grown up and have been learning everything they'll need to be just as great as their parents, you've been on pins and needles waiting for the next story to be ready for us. The Guardians aren't just the heroes of the stories, they've become a family that stays with you, that you wonder what's coming next! Kris Michaels, thank you for bringing so many fantastic stories for us!
Nathan has grown into the man he was destined for. He is now Guardian in his own right. But his new neighbor has been tickling his mind since she moved in. Star has no agenda but to renovate her late uncle's home. But she is a walking, talking ball of energy that erupts in chaos. She tends to be in the most intense way accidents waiting to happen. He has his work cut out just keeping her safe from herself. I laughed many time while reading this book. There is suspense that wraps around Star. And he must keep on his toes to save her. Loved seeing how far he has gotten and the good that he is capable of.
What a wonderful fun book to read! Poor Star, she is "accident" prone, never seriously hurt but always in funny situations. Ethan meanwhile, has been wanting to date her but is constantly having to help her out of her "situations".
You also get to learn more about Ethans computer specialist training as well as his different shadow training. As with the legacy series, you see and feel the changing of the guardians.
But trouble is brewing, can Ethan keep Star safe?
Wonderfully written book! It has action, steam, suspense, romance and humor! I highly recommend this must read book!
I don't know how she does it but every time I finish one of her books I feel down. Down because I know I enjoy Kris Michaels books so much it will be hard to find another one to read till her next book in the series comes out. This book was funny, lots of good content and so well written. Such a warm Loving relationship between the main characters, with a little well placed spice and not so much it usurps 80% of the story as so many romance novels do lately. I've read all her books and this is a solid 5 stars!
It brings tears to my eyes seeing the babies I've watched grow into such stellar men and women. Ethan is brilliant and strong with integrity and determination. Look at the pride Bernanke and Lycos feel! Ethan is now a man with an eye for his chaos work bed next door neighbor Star. As Ethan enters a new phase in his computer career, he finds himself enmeshed in not 1, but two situations that see his ao.an Star in danger. Join the new journey as Star and Ethan begin their life adventure.
I just agree with another person's review, with a few differences of my own. I liked Ethan, but he wasn't all that exciting, at least not for a Guardian! I've always loved Lycos and it was great to have him even for a short time. Star, however, drove me crazy! She never stopped talking and was just so far out of it all the time. I didn't find her funny (and kept wondering about Ethan's choice). She was just more than i could stand. I skipped over many pages when she began her rants.
Need to give more than 5 stars! Throne of Secrets is just WOW!
Ethan and Star are wonderful together! This story is hot, adventurous and so interesting. Star is just right for Ethan and it was great to see other Guardians in their different roles. Once again Kris Michael's has given us a book that hooks you from the first page to the last. Thank you Kris!!! It was wonderful to read and now I can't wait for Jinx's story. 🔥🎉📚💜😺
Fantastic read. I loved Star and Ethan together. Star is a funny accident prone young lady trying to fix up the old house she inherited from an uncle she didn’t know existed and Ethan is her neighbor who is getting her out of the spots she finds herself in. Then she finds a dead body on her way back home from the grocery and all hell breaks loose. It was great seeing Lycos again and looking forward to the next book. Don’t want to say anymore as I’m afraid I might give up something good.
4.5 stars. I really related to Star and her ADHD clumsiness, although hers really was so much worse than mine (sometimes disbelievingly so). Kris Michaels remains one of the best to ever do it. I’ve read everything she’s ever written (so many books) and I’ll continue to read each new release, because she consistently so detailed while building a fantastic romance. Really loving this second generation series.
Ethan has Benn groomed by Guardian since his teen. For the last ten years he has been challenged by his mentor. He finally learns who his mentor is and begin his secret autonomous protection of Guardian Security. He is to partner with Max and take over when Max retires. Ethan's neighbor Star has caught his interest, after being rescued numerous times by Ethan, Star and Ethan marry and move to the mountain.
Ethan and Star’s story has it all. It is packed with humour, action, suspense and romance. We also get a wonderful wolf-dog and some old friends. It makes a fun change to have a heroine who is a magnet for trouble and disasters and I’d love to know how she gets on with Bandit! The Dynasty sub series is wonderful and Ethan has grown up very nicely! Highly recommended.
I loved that Ethan got his book and his HEA with Star. Ethan was everything we have come to expect from a Guardian. Star was an absolute gem! She made me laugh out loud. It was great to see Lycos in this book as well. I was hoping for a cameo from Dixon and Drake, but no such luck. However, the book was entertaining and I absolutely enjoyed this read.
Sometimes Guardians save the world from evil. Sometimes Guardians save one person from themselves -- and the evil around them.
I loved this book. Great characters, humor, danger, definitely romance, adorable dog, cute town, visiting Shadow, a surprise "reveal" -- what's not to love?
Ethan and Star together is a great matchup! He is calm and she is a firecracker. Ethan is definitely swoon-worthy hot … but Lycos is 🔥! I’ve always had a soft spot for him. Anyway, once again Kris Michael's has given us a book that hooks you from the first page to the last. Thank you Kris!!! It was a fantastic addition to the series and now I can't wait for Jinx's story. Bring it!
