From a USA Today bestselling author comes a brand new small town suspense romance perfect for fans of western thriller dramas and big-city heat.

I came to Finn River to get away from trouble. Of course it found me anyway – in the form of a forbidden kiss.

After a narrow escape from Alaska and months on the run, I take a security gig that doesn’t ask any questions about my past. But it didn’t take long before trouble came knocking—first, a dangerous rescue, second, sharing my secrets with the one girl I shouldn't trust.

I need to stay away from Sofie Whittaker. Not only are we from different worlds, with two very different futures, being with her puts us both at risk. But her bright blue eyes and rare smile haunt my days, her sassy mouth and tight curves consume my nights. The more I try to push her away, the more entwined our lives become, until the morning I find her in my bed, begging me to make her mine.

But it all comes crashing down the night my past catches up to me. No way am I letting Sofie go—but in fighting for her, will I break us for good?

Author's note: soulmates brought together by fate, a mountain town fighting change, and an addicting, unsolved mystery. Love Me Dangerous is Zach and Sofie's story and book 1 in a new series of stand-alone romances featuring a different hero and heroine fighting for their HEA. I really wanted to like this audio book more than I did. Early in the book, it became a bit slow to me. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of an existing story. Zach was running from something and he had secrets. I was trying to ferret out the details, but they were limited. Something was going on with Sophie and her family situation as well.

I had so many questions and a good deal of confusion. I listened to chapters 1 through 11 twice, just knowing I had fallen asleep or missed something. I never really figured out how I missed the answers to my questions. I was frustrated.

The book didn't pick up and become more interesting for me until maybe chapters 11 or 12. Then I had more unanswered questions. There wasn't much suspense. There was a mystery or maybe two? Yet I missed any conversation where Zach was pulled into the mystery. I did like the small town feeling and the way most of the people were supportive of Zach. I also enjoyed some of the descriptions of the area.

Things were happening and I kept rewinding trying to figure out not only what I missed, but when I missed it. All of the switching between what was going on in Finn River, and what was happening back in Alaska (based on Zach's conversations with Sawyer) were confusing. I could make assumptions, but I didn't want to do that. For example at one point, Sophie asks Jesse "does Neve wants to quit"? What did she want to quit, and why? It didn't make sense. More assumptions required. After the fact, we are given more information about Neve (hope that is how her name is spelled), but was information provided about Neve prior to this? At this point, we are at Chapter 25.

I did wonder about how old the characters were in comparison to each other. Were they early college, grad school, older, or a combination of above? The older characters were obvious.

I just had this overwhelming sense of feeling lost. Maybe it was just me. I only know that it was difficult for me to get into the flow of the book. It took too long to get the little pieces of information about Zack's past. If I am being perfectly honest, I was so focused on what information I was missing that I didn't care about Zach and Sophie's relationship. Moving from one chapter to another, I often felt like a chapter ended one way and the next chapter didn't pick up that train of thought and move forward with it.

There were too many things going on that threw me off track and out of the flow. BUT, that is just me. I don't want to work that hard to enjoy a book. Like I said earlier in my review, maybe if I had read the last couple of books, this one would have made more sense. I hadn't read a Wild Hearts book in 3 or 4 years.

The narration was OK. I would recommend that you read this book and judge for yourself.

This is the first book in a new series and my first by the author and I have to say, I was pretty impressed! I’m always on the lookout for romantic suspense and this definitely had some high stakes and great moments of action. It also had plenty of swoony and sexy romance with a couple I was rooting for. Robert Hatchet and Laura Horowitz both gave fantastic emotional performances that fit the characters so well. I’m really looking forward to the second book.

Hello, Finn River!

Sofie Whittaker and Zachary "Zach" Marshall Hayes have a wonderful story, full of adventure (good and bad), love, and friendships. I was drawn in to not only the characters but also to Finn River.

I love that after being on his own for so long, trying to escape danger, that Zach finds his people in the unlikeliest of places and learns to trust again. That doesn't for a second mean that anything comes easy, but I love where this goes.

Prickles erupt on my chest, and I’m regretting this invitation. Because I’m liking whatever this is with him way too much.
-- Sofie Whittaker

As for Sofie, she and Zach are a lot alike in that they both strive to protect their loved ones from the evil of the world. In Sofie's case, a lot of that is protecting her younger sister, Linnea, from the awfulness that comes with her brother's drug addiction and the dangers of their father's job. Sadly, it gets worse before it gets better. That said, it could've been a heck of a lot worse than it was.

The ending was awesome. The setup for the next book is terrific, and I cannot wait to get their story and a few others.

One thing I want to put out there, OK, fine, a couple of things. First, I got the wrap up that I was looking for related to the Wild Hearts series in this book. Yay!!! Second, prior reading of that series is not a requirement for this, but if you have read it, you NEED to read this. Seriously.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet. Both are absolutely fabulous. Enough so that I listened to them twice, reading along one of those times.

💭Zach is on the run from his stepdad, while trying to keep a low profile, he takes on a random security job and ends up meeting Sophie. Their lives keep crossing paths, starting with him saving her from a car accident, and eventually they find themselves in this small town in Idaho. What begins as a bit of a reluctant friendship soon turns into something deeper. But just when things start to heat up, Zach’s past starts catching up with him.

I really enjoyed most of it, but honestly, the first half of the book had me a bit lost and confused. It took me a while to get into the story. Thankfully, things picked up in the second half and I really started to enjoy it. However, after the big conflict in the third act, I felt like the story dragged on a bit too long—there was still an hour left, and I thought that was unnecessary. On the bright side, I loved how it all wrapped up at the end! Overall, it’s a solid romantic suspense with some steamy moments and great narration.

Laura and Robert absolutely nailed it! Their narration was superb—I could feel every emotion they poured into the characters. Laura's voice brought so much warmth and depth, while Robert added that perfect touch of charm. They both had such great chemistry, making the romantic tension feel so real. I was completely immersed from start to finish, and their performances made every emotional moment hit harder. It was a pleasure listening to them!

Romantic suspense, yummy cowboys, and slow burning spice? Yes please! This is my first book by 𝙳𝚊𝚔𝚘𝚝𝚊 𝙳𝚊𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚜 and it definitely will not be my last. From beginning to end, I was drawn in, kept on a hook, and taken on a wild ride!

Sophie & Zach are beautifully chiseled. The chemistry between them is absolutely undeniable. Listening to their story unfold, it made me feel like I was in Finn River, right along side of them. Zach is a wonderfully broken character who rescues Sophie......twice. When he sees her yet again.....he tries to keep her from the drama that is past. But, their pull to each is irresistible!

Added to their romance, is a bundle of mysterious happenings and plot twists that will keep you guessing. It's beautifully chiseled and I couldn't get enough!

𝑅𝑜𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑡 𝐻𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑡 is a talented narrator who poured his whole self into Zach. Each emotion, each part of the character came to life as 𝑅𝑜𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑡 read his story. 𝐿𝑎𝑢𝑟𝑎 𝐻𝑜𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑖𝑡𝑧 is still a fairly new to me narrator (I've only listened to one or two others!) but it's evident she is a talent that is great at voicing the characters. Her voice blended beautifully with 𝑅𝑜𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑡'𝑠 as she gave Sophie a voice. Beautifully casted!

If you like small town, western romances, edge of your seat suspense, angst, and undeniable attraction between characters, then you don't want to miss this one when it releases on September 26th! I can't wait to listen to the next one! I will definitely be checking out the backlist of books!

This was a random TBR read pick up and I’m sooo glad I did! This was my first book by this author and I will say if you want a suspenseful romance here is where to look!! This was Zach and Sophia’s story and they had all the fun and hidden skeletons and more.

These two meet at a concert but don’t completely cross paths, to then have fate constantly be putting them in the right place at the right time to have HUGE effects of each others lives. Zach has a huge past he is running from. Truly thinks he is never safe for too long. A transient for an unforeseeable time. Never did he think the beautiful girl he helps would’ve hai saving grace, but he will always be her salvation too.

I very much look forward to reading more by Dakota! If this books shows anything I can only imagine what other books of hers have in store. Having both their timelines crashing together was one way to keep me on the edge of my seat for this book!

Narrators were amazing. The last like hour and a half I couldn’t stop!! They made the story feel so real and apart of what was going on.

This was my first book by Dakota, and I’m a huge fan now! Romantic suspense can be a difficult genre for me to get into because I’ve read so much, it’s hard to surprise me. This book, however, had me guessing and nail biting throughout the whole thing! I was SHOCKED! There was so much drama and action, and it was awesome. I also loved Zach and Sofie together. They are the perfect pairing, and the ending had me in tears!

Rob Hatchet is a forever favorite of mine, and Laura Horowitz is a new favorite! This audio was fantastic!

This is my first book by Dakota Davies and I really enjoyed her writing style. She gives amazing detail on the characters, the setting and the story. I really enjoy romantic suspense and this story is fantastic. I was engaged from the first moment until the end of the book…it’s filled with emotion, action and adventure.

Zach and Sophie are both dealing with some personal/family issues. Both are very guarded and only want to protect their families. It takes them both some time but they eventually trust one another other, become one another’s confidants and have a beautiful HEA. Their friends and family are great side characters who love them both unconditionally.

Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchett deliver an amazing performance! They gave the characters perfect emotion, personality and voice. I love how narrators give authors words a whole new experience to readers/listeners.

Danger in Finn River
Zach Hayes is originally from Alaska, but we catch up with him in Kamloops, then Finn River, Idaho. Originally introduced in the Wild Hearts Series (and with this story tying to that series’ conclusion), this story highlights Zach’s side of the story, but also introduces a new crew. When Zach rescues Sophie (twice), something wonderful but dangerous begins. I loved the banter between these two (“…so elusive…”), and the building danger kept me glued to my ear buds. Plus, Robert Hackett!! Swoon! Although Laura Horowitz is no slouch either - I loved how all the female voices were subtly different but highly distinct. An amazing story and a fantastic listen.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If small town, slow burn romance is your jam, then this book is for you! From the beginning, Dakota Davies pulls you in with an intriguing situation that only increases in its interest. I found myself taking my time listening to this book, soaking up every aspect. The cold mountain air, the sound of saddles creaking, and feeling the pull between the MCs. Combine that with the extreme talent of Rob Hatchet and Laura Horowitz, and this book will transport you to a place you won’t want to leave. As long as you’re able to handle that something fishy is happening in Finn River…

This book is a romance wrapped up in mystery. Zach is one of the most selfless MCs I’ve ever read. It’s intriguing what is going on in his life. It’s not something that is typical in romance books, usually it’s the other way around. ‘Damsel in distress’ and all that. But I like that part of this story. Sophie is fiercely independent, which I greatly appreciate. The dynamic and tension between these two was enjoyable. The thoughtfulness that each MC has towards each other and to those around them was sweet.

Whenever I read about a small town like Finn River, with people who help each other out of the kindness of their hearts, it makes me yearn for something like that. A time, or place, that actually exists where people have each other’s backs. Quite wholesome and I was here for it! The side characters are ones that I would like to know. Add in the sneaky deception that is happening, and you have a recipe for a solid romantic suspense novel.

I’ve known of Laura Horowitz for a while now, but this is my first time listening to her narrate. She shifts seamlessly between the characters, matching their vibes with ease. Horowitz added that “something extra” to her narration that elevated the performance. Plus she has a kickass male voice 😅. I thoroughly enjoyed her narration and will definitely be looking for more of her work to listen to!

Rob Hatchet is one of my favorite narrators of all time. Every word he voices is done so to perfection. His skill at enhancing the characters is incredible and one of the things that has me gravitating towards audiobooks he narrates. Hatchet is so soothing that hours pass and I don’t even realize it. I absolutely love listening to him which is why I tend to seek out his work.

I want to thank Dakota Davies and HomeCookedBooks for allowing me to review this ALC. It was one that I was at ease listening to, except for when it got to the more suspenseful parts, and then I was like “what!?” 😆 I like that when things “went down” it didn’t just conveniently happen and was over quickly. You could tell that Davies planned everything out and executed it with care. I hope that everyone gives this book a read/listen, it’s definitely worth it! 🧡

Zach’s on the run and just trying to keep a low profile when he takes a random security job and that’s where he meets Sofie. After their paths keep crossing, starting with him saving her from a car accident, and then when they both end up in a small town in Idaho. What begins as an awkward friendship slowly turns into something more, but just when things start getting good, Zach’s past comes back to haunt him. Now he has to figure out his next move and what that means for him and Sofie.

The narrators, Robert Hatchet and Laura Horowitz, are perfect for Zach and Sofie. They bring every emotion to life so naturally. If you love romantic suspense, this one definitely belongs on your TBR!

Thank you, Dakota Davies for the review opportunity.

NEW AUTHOR FOR ME!!

This book was so good. It had just the right amount of suspense, mystery, and romance! I loved the town of Finn River and how everyone interacted with each other. I loved the mystery of the MMC and how the FMC brought out a different side to him.

Will definitely be continuing this series.

My first time reading this author, and it will not be the last. I love small town and romantic suspense, and I got both plus an amazing, addicting story. I was hooked in quickly as we are spoon fed details in bits with just enough detail to crave more. We meet Zach first as he saves Sophie at a concert he is working security. He saves her again later, and as the two find themselves living in Finn River, a kiss, and ultimately more danger to follow.

Zach is on the run, and Sophie is the glue trying to hold her family together. Can he keep his danger from finding her? As we peel back all the layers, plots twists, and mystery, edge of your seat suspense, and romance, I did not want to put this book down.

I am off to read more of this author before the next book becomes available.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

I haven’t had a romantic suspense experience like this one in a very long time. The story progressed from the very beginning and every layer added to the suspense. The relationship built because of the suspense, and it was so intriguing that I found it hard to stop listening at times. I took my time with this audiobook because I knew after listening to only a few chapters that every plot-point/circumstance that happened was a means to an end and would be important to know. I also listened to it twice, once back in July and then again, a few weeks ago. Both MCs have their own mysterious circumstances that come together in this story, and you have the romance journey as well and I wanted to really catch every detail. If you haven’t guessed by now, I am a huge fan of romantic suspense stories, and when one comes along as captivating and edge-of-your seat as this one did, I paid attention.

Turns out I did myself a favor by going thru this story twice because I loved it and the second time around I concentrated more on the relationship between Zach & Sophie (because I’d already unraveled the mystery LOL) and I have to tell you this woman can write a romance build exceptionally well. She gave Zack & Sophie the room to grow from strangers to friends to more and it had a kismet quality to it that felt real and organic. There was nothing cliché or trite about any of it and I appreciated that tremendously. There really wasn’t even a moment of predictability, in their romance journey or mystery journey.

Dakota Davies made me feel connected to the story and the characters and I am already in love with her style and voice. Talk about insta! This woman had me practically at ”hello”, as they say, and I am here for it. This was an unpredictable and thrilling ride that warmed my heart with a whole lot of swooning moments. Robert Hatchet and Laura Horowitz were so good together and complimented each other in performance and voice. They are both very versatile but I gotta give Laura bigger props because her range and versatility with the different voices, including the male voices, was outstanding, and I just cannot believe my ears and her have not crossed paths before now!

My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this beautifully written suspenseful, emotional and romantic story. From the opening chapter of Zach and Sophie's story, I was hooked and compelled to keep listening.

This emotional rollercoaster ride flows so well and is full of drama, suspense, mystery, angst, palpable chemistry, steamy romance and love. It tells how Zach and Sophie met and the obstacles they had to overcome to be together. The characters are wonderfully well-drawn have such depth and are perfect for each other.

Zach is on the run, hiding from his stepfather who is involved in many different criminal activities and has framed Zach for a crime he didn't commit. At the start of the story Zach, who is from Alaska, is working security for a band touring the country. But the band's next gig would mean going back towards Alaska so he needs to leave and move on. On his last night, he noticed Sophie in a potentially dangerous situation so he intervened and defused the situation before it could escalate. But that would not be the last he saw of her or her friends as he saw her again on his way out of town, and then again on the road to his next location.

Zach hitched a ride in the back of a horse trailer belonging to Henry Hutton, but then something happens that forces him to reveal himself and eventually leads to him going home with Henry to Finn River, Idaho It's there he finds a job and a home for himself with Barb and Henry Hutton and meets more wonderful people. Finn River is Sofie's home too and it's not long before they meet again. He gets a job and starts to carve out a life for himself even allowing himself to enjoy spending time with Sophie. As part of his new job, he discovers that some bad people are trafficking drugs into Finn River and he gets caught in the middle as his past comes back to haunt him and forces him to do something he knows is wrong. Zach has his reasons for doing what he does the main one being William his younger brother, who he desperately wants to get back to as soon as he can, but that would mean leaving Sofie his love. Can he ask her to wait? Will she love him still when she knows everything?

I loved watching Sofie and Zach get to know each other, overcome their fears and watch as the mystery unfolded. Dakota's descriptive writing style and world-building are excellent, as are the growth and development made by each of the characters.

The narration is by Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet, they both did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life by bringing out their personalities and giving each an individual and fitting voice. They made these characters their own, Robert was perfect as Zach and Laura was Sofie! But they were also incredible in their portrayals of the secondary characters each voice different but each perfect.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧Gripping & Suspenseful!

Love Me Dangerous
Love Me Dangerous, Book 1
By: Dakota Davies
Narrated by Laura Horowitz, Robert Hatchet

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, a romantic suspense with a perfect balance of drama, angst, mystery, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. It is an original and multilayered story grabs your attention right from the start and holds it captive the entire time. Zach is from Alaska, but is currently on the run, hiding from his step-father, who is not a good man and has his hands in criminal activity. He hooked up with a band that is touring tour, working security for them, and on the last night he noticed a girl that looked like she was being taken advantage of, so he intervened. That would not be the last he saw of that girl or her friends, and not only does he bump into her on his way out of town, but then again while on the road to his next location, wherever that may be. The events on the road leads him to Finn River, Idaho and some great people, including Sofie Whittaker, but he soon learns not all the people are great, and there is something bad going on behind the scenes, which he winds up getting caught in the middle of and making it even worse is his past coming back to haunt him. It was great to watch Sofie and Zach get to know each other and watch the mystery of what was going on unfold, with the author dropping hints and making you wonder and try to figure it out along the way. Zach has his reasons for doing what he does and one of those reasons is his brother, who he plans to return to as soon as he can, but where will that leave Sofie? There is never a dull moment in this book, and I loved how it all played out. The writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Dakota Davies, thank you for this amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life, humanizing them with their personality, and giving each a voice that was fitting. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound, with Hatchet nailing it as Zach and Horowitz, did the same as Sofie. Both were just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a great narration team, their voices and performance complements each other and the quality of the audio is top-notch. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for the fabulous listen.

I had been wanting to read this book since it released! The cover initially drew me to it and made me check out the synopsis! It sounded like my kind of read, so I grabbed a copy and finally gave it a read! After reading, I can say that while I liked this book, I felt a bit lost with the plot as if I was missing information that was in a previous series! I was able to piece everything together though! When I got to the end of this book, I discovered that there’s a prequel series to this one, which explains a lot lol! There was romance in the plot and I loved the way it developed and that it allowed for some steamy scenes between the main characters! There was also some action and suspense in the plot, which added to it and made me enjoy it more! The characters were also great and added a lot to the plot! Sophie was the main female character and in this book she was close to her family and she wanted to do right by them! Sophie put her family before herself and she was especially close to her younger sister! I liked Sophie a lot and she was strong in this book! Zach was the main male character and love interest of Sophie! Zach was on the run in this book and this is how he came to meet Sophie! I found Zach an intriguing character and I wanted to know more about him! Zach had been through a lot and I loved the way he was with Sophie! He didn't want her mixed up in his situation and he was protective of her! This book was written from both Sophie and Zach’s point of views! I was hoping that it was going to be written this way before I started reading, but the synopsis does give the impression that it’s only going to be written from the male character’s point of view! I loved that it was written from dual point of view because it helped me connect more with both characters and see their feelings for each other grow! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as Sophie and Zach were going through their own situations and they went through some things by themselves! I now can’t wait to read the next book in this series! I know that it’s going to focus on a secondary characters from this book and I’m looking forward to learning more about these characters and getting inside their heads! What an exciting audiobook, start to finish, and a great start to a series I want to keep listening to. Narrators Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet are outstanding. You are drawn to Zach from the first word narrator Robert Hatchet utters. You hear a good man, who wants to avoid drawing attention to himself but is compelled to do the right thing and help the woman he suspects in in danger. There are hints about Alaska, a father who died, being on the run from a stepdad and not safe. Just enough info to ramp your interest up and keep you hooked. What happened? Zach cannot possibly be the bad guy. But people “back home” – wherever that is – are depending on him. He needs to keep running, but he also needs to listen to his moral compass and help where needed. A heroic lake rescue keeps him in Finn River. Good decision or bad decision? Guess we have to keep listening to find out.

Narrator Laura Horowitz’s Sophie has secrets, a past she’s trying to escape from and inner conflicts of her own, and the emotion narrator Horowitz puts into Sophie’s words and thoughts make them real. What has happened to Sophie in the past? She, too, has family depending on her. A life in Finn River with friend, but perhaps not all those friends are safe.

We are immediately drawn to these two characters who are immediately drawn to each other. Neither wants to be involved, Zach especially doesn’t want to share too much of himself, but it’s inevitable – and very, very sweet.

The story moves along at a measured pace, revealing some things and making some other things even more intriguing. Suspense ramps up. Sophie and Zach are surrounded by some really good people, but also some that are truly dangerous. They could have a good life together, with the hope of safely and securely reuniting with their families – if only the fates or that evil out there or whatever is going on will allow it. The more the storyline progresses the more we hope everything will be alright.

In addition to the riveting story, author Dakota Davies provides the most detailed, beautiful descriptions of Finn River, nature, animals and on-going conservation and preservation efforts. Fascinating, stunning and completely immersive. Totally satisfying listening experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed Love Me Dangerous and can’t wait to continue the series. I recommend it without hesitation. I voluntarily leave this review and was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own.

ALC AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

Love Me Dangerous is Book 1 in Dakota Davies' newest small town romantic suspense series.

Zach Hayes is on the run from his past, taking evasive actions to protect himself, and more importantly, to protect a loved one in hiding. Far from home, he manages to fly under the radar, picking up event security jobs.

Enter Sofie Whittaker, a young woman who has taken on the role of caretaker for her own family members undergoing difficult circumstances.

At an outdoor event, Zach steps in as Sofie's protector, and then again as Sofie is imperiled in a near tragic accident. Zach himself is then given shelter and work by a local good Samaritan.

Thus begins the slow burn as their paths continue to cross. Zach confides in a kind and compassionate Sofie, but resists his attraction to her for fear of embroiling her in his drama. However, their friendship soon gives way to something more. They cannot deny their chemistry, even as they encounter mystery, danger, and nefarious bad actors involved in illegal activities. Soon, Zach's past rears its ugly head, endangering both of them.

This was my first Dakota Davies book. Because the book itself has not yet been released, and I had not read her prior Wild Hearts series (where Zach is first introduced and some hints of his past made known), I found it challenging to become fully invested in this story while keeping the *extensive* cast of characters, timelines, and plot twists straight. Much time is spent world building and on characters living everyday life.

The performances of both narrators were excellent. I love both Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet, they helped keep me engaged in the story. As mentioned above, the cast of characters is large, and both narrators gave their all in bringing life to Zach, Sofie, the residents of Finn River, and the antagonists.

If you enjoy lush, detailed description of people, places, and things; a slow burn; small town dynamics; mystery and suspense; action; and a swoony read with moderate steam, you will enjoy Davies new series.

For best enjoyment, I recommend an immersive listening/reading experience with both audiobook and book in hand.

**Audiobook Review**

The title and synopsis of this book caught my attention and I was excited to start listening to a small town romantic suspense book. “Love Me Dangerous” is a mystery filled and romantic story that was a good start to a new series.

Ever since leaving Alaska, Zach has been living on the road and under the radar. He works odd jobs that pay cash so there’s no trail leading to him. But one day when he hitches a ride in a horse trailer and witnesses an accident, he immediately jumps into action. One of the people he saves is Sophie. Sophie has lived in Finn River her whole life and has been happy. But she’s captivated by the man who saved her and even though he shouldn’t, he starts to trust her. But as Zach spends more time in Finn River, something strange is happening that he can’t ignore.

Since this is the first book in the series, there’s a lot for the author to cover to set everything up. It started off a bit slow for me but once we got to Zach deciding to stay in Finn River, it really opened up and pulled me in and I needed to find out more about Zach and what he was running from. His past was twisted and he was doing what he needed to do to keep his brother safe. Sophie was the breath of fresh air he needed, especially when he thought he was destined to be alone for the foreseeable future. Sophie is caring, kind and wants the best for her family. I loved her need to be close to them and help them in any way she could. Zach and Sophie had a slow buildup to their relationship but once they were clear on their feelings, they were all in. The added suspense of someone coming after Zach had me listening to figure out what was happening in their small town. The ending was sweet, romantic and wrapped up their story perfectly.

Robert Hatchet and Laura Horowitz narrated as Zach and Sophie and I loved listening to them. Robert was great as Zach and he brought his protective side alive perfectly. I loved Laura as Sophie, her narration was vulnerable and caring like her.

Overall Thoughts: This is my third book by Dakota and my favorite so far. The way she describes the emotion and inner monologue for the characters is impressive, I feel like I know exactly how they feel and what they are thinking. There is a lot going on in this book from all the issues with Sofie’s family and Zach being on the run from his dangerous step-father, there is so much to take in and it was a little difficult in the beginning to keep everyone straight. This was my first book narrated by Laura Horowitz and I thought she was amazing and a perfect fit for Sofie and Rob Hatchett gave an amazing performance as Zach. I could listen to these two read just about anything. This was a good book, writing is on point, but this is not the book that I typically gravitate towards.

Narration: Duet narration, first-person present tense, single POV with flashbacks

Tropes: On then run, small town, mountain town, mystery, drug abuse, oldest sibling as maternal figure, instant attraction, abduction, lost on a mountain top, grifter, OMD

Overall: 3.5
Spice: 2
Humor: 1.5
Drama: 3.5
Darkness: 2
Narration: 5

The book starts with Zach working security at a concert when a guy decides to get too handy with a girl in the crowd. After rescuing her, he sees her the next day at a local diner. She recognizes him and while she does not say anything she pays for his meal. When she drives off with a guy, he sneaks into a horse trailer to hopefully get out of town quickly.

Those plans are thwarted when there is an accident and Zach saves Sofie and her brother. The man who owns the trailer Zach snuck into takes him home and gets him cleaned up and fed, and offers to keep a room over his head and feed him if he helps on the farm.

On night Zach is jumped and badly hurt, and the assailant mentions his step-father’s name. Zach is torn between wanting to run and stay to be with Sofie. When a series of events leads to Zach and Sofie being in a dangerous situation, Zach puts everything on the line to save the woman he’s fallen for, even if it costs him his life.

Love Me Dangerous is book one in the new Love Me Dangerous series and is the small mountain town with western vibes, hero in hiding, family girl heroine, he falls first, frenemies to lovers of Zach Hayes and Sofie Whittaker.
Zach is on the run from his stepfather who engages in criminal activity and isn’t a good man. Far from home and trying to fly under the radar, Zach picks up security jobs to get by and one such job is security for a touring band which is how he first meets Sofie, saving her from unwanted attention which leads to one hot passionate kiss. Zach settles into a security job in Finn River, and he not only finds himself fitting in, but he also finds Sofie again. He is really enjoying getting to know her and is completely enamoured by how much she cares for her family. Just as he thinks his life is finally going smoothly and everything is going great with Sofie, the very danger he was running from finds him. Will Zach be able to keep himself and Sofie safe and help his brother?
Robert Hatchet and Laura Horowitz bring this audiobook to life and make an incredible pairing.
Mr Hatchet perfectly portrayed Zach, the alpha protector on the run who is just settling into small town life and falling for Sofie when the very danger he is running from threatens to take it all away from him.
Ms Horowitz’s performance as the strong, and kind, caring Sofie who had to grow up too fast, who has a no-nonsense approach to life and is charmingly fascinating was superb.
Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook. This was my very first Dakota Davies title, the issue I found was that something has clearly happened in a previous series set in Alaska causing Zach to go on the run and I felt like I was missing a piece of the puzzle for a chunk of the book. However, the characters were an absolute delight, I loved their growth and development throughout, and their capacity for love and hope in the face of danger plus a pinch of sweetness and spice and this audiobook was thoroughly captivating.

Angst, fear, and conflicts overpowered by love
Dakota Davies has wowed me again. This new series, Finn River, has everything romance readers love. In Book 1, Love Me Dangerous, Zach and Sofie have an immediate connection, even as strangers in a 'passing in the night' first meeting. From the start, these two are meant to meet, get to know one another and fight their demons. It doesn't help that Zach wants what he doesn't think he can have and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Sofie grew up too fast only to feel and carry the weight of her own world, too. Despite the heaviness, these two find hope within themselves and each other, even if fleeting, coming and going, creating all kinds of angsty internal conflict romance readers thrive on.
Threats and danger seem to surround Zach, making him want to run, hide, and distance himself from Sofie. But she's too fascinating, kind and sweet, understanding yet no-nonsense. As the danger to Zach increases on more than one front, their connection deepens to the point of no return. The intensity of the danger spills over to others and drives Zach to lengths he never knew he was capable of.
As a listener, you're in for a treat with the audiobook version of Love Me Dangerous. The narrators, Laura Horowitz and Robert Hatchet, deliver a masterful performance, bringing the characters to life with their emotional depth. If you're a fan of audiobooks, this is one you won't want to miss!
Miss Davies has once again crafted a captivating small town in Finn River, a place that brims with intrigue and adventure. The main characters, Zach and Sofie, are a delight to follow, and their growth and capacity for hope and love add a sweet and steamy element to the story. The satisfying HEA for Love Me Dangerous extends beyond Zach and Sofie, wrapping up this romance in a truly fulfilling way.
I read an ARC and listened to an ALC of this book, and voluntarily share my review.

📚Story review📚
The blend of suspense, danger, mystery, and swoony moments in Love Me Dangerous had me hooked from the beginning. The story centers around Zach and Sofie who keep crossing paths at the most opportune times almost like fate intervened and brings them together.

Zach is in the run, but continues to reappear in Sofie's life when she least expects it, always seeming to show up when she needs him most. Their bond grows quickly, with trust and friendship serving as their steady foundation. Their instant connection feels natural and believable, and it's easy to root for them as their relationship develops.

I particularly enjoyed the layers of mystery and intrigue that unfolded throughout. Both Zach and Sofie have their own backstories, and the way their individual mysteries intertwine kept me on the edge of my seat. There were several moments where I found myself wondering who the real villain was, and the suspense built steadily until the end. Overall, this was a thrilling, heartwarming read that was a satisfying balance of romance and suspense.

🎧❤️ Audiobook review ❤️🎧
I was drawn to this one because of Laura and she did not disappoint. She beautifully and masterfully moved the story along with her lovely and melodic voice. She has great range for characters and a wonderful man voice. Rob is always a pleasurable storyteller and I loved the way he showed Zach’s guardedness and vulnerability. These two were excellent together and I very much enjoyed it!
