Chloe wants one to be a good mother. But a past tragedy for which she blames herself, leaves her without the confidence to care for her newborn.
Living in a cliff-top mansion overlooking Lake Superior, Chloe struggles to make it through each day without something going catastrophically wrong. So, when her husband and sister-in-law must both be away for several weeks, Chloe panics.
She hires a retired nanny, who worked for the family thirty years ago. From the moment she arrives, Chloe fears she’s made a terrible mistake. The woman has a garish appearance, a brusque demeanor, and a past that includes the mysterious deaths of three young children.
When her baby disappears, Chloe knows the nanny is behind it. But how can she convince the police of that when someone has informed them of her history of mental illness? A fact that she herself can’t deny. She’s even been seeing the ghost of her husband’s mother. Did Chloe take her baby somewhere and can’t remember?

I have read every book in this author's collection, and she never disappoints. All of her stories are solidly written, and she never relies on the impossible to explain away her brilliantly written mystery plots. The momentum of the story keeps you reading. I was second-guessing the protagonist's decisions while her past was slowly and skillfully revealed throughout the story, leading to a most impactful ending.
I was happy to get a notification of this new release in my inbox. It didn’t disappoint. I read it in one sitting. I never know which way the author’s going to take her story. I was again surprised and blown away. Well done.
