I’ll be honest. I originally downloaded this book to hate read it. It had 2 reviews and a one star rating when I first got it.
It was incredible. I’ll say my complaints real quick to get them out of the way. There is WAY too much going on for how short the book is. Because of that it lacks depth of lore and world building.
However if you like being dropped into a setting and grasping in sci-fi and fantasy everything was explained and made sense just in a matter of fact kind of way.
I love the main character. The epilogue at the end was a little chilling and I’m excited to see where the story goes next. The immortality curse is so much more than I anticipated about half way through, it was laid out clearly. Like okay… this is the main plot of the book. But then nope, plot twist she makes a deal adding to it. No spoilers here. It’s worth the read.
I wanted to like this book. However, I just couldn’t get with it. I did finish it, but I won’t be continuing the series. It tried to cover too many magical elements or occurrences and had too many moving parts squeezed into the relatively few pages. There were plot holes and I feel like it lacked explanations or backstory for a lot of things. I think there was just too much that it seemed rushed and then there was a push to explain new findings in the ending/epilogue to make way for book 2. There should have also been another edit or so to help clear up some writing errors which unfortunately for me, really impacts my reading. I think there’s potential for sure but I just won’t be proceeding.
