In the spring of 1976, the author participated in a six-weekend climbing seminar which culminated in the summiting of Mt. Rainier. Among the participants was the former high school counselor of Jimi Hendrix. Read the story plus ten other fiction stories of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
I found this interesting because I'm a PNW native and I believe that the author may be about the same age as my parents. From what my parents have told me about their teenage and early adulthood, it seems that Fordyce was able to capture the vibe of that era accurately. He uses simple language and his dialogue seems realistic. The style seemed akin to Hemmingway. I was disappointed that the stories weren't connected and/or weren't plot driven. However, I feel like it would be worthwhile to try reading his novel. There were two sentences which really stood out. My favorites stories were "Huskies" & "Human and the Television Room." I met the author at an Author Event Network while attending the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival. He was kind enough to chat with me and sign my book which I appreciated.
There is no doubt Rick is a talented writer. Each vignette was a masterpiece. My problem was they didn't go anywhere. I expected each short story to build from the last or at least gather to form an overall message. I didn't find the message.
I related to many stories and had no trouble taking the book in as several short stories with no message.
