Summer in New York Collection

Rate this book
In USA Today bestselling author Janette Rallison’s delightful novella, JOB HAZARDS, Lydia Robinson is posing as a prostitute. Undercover of course. Lydia’s job as a police officer hasn’t reeled in her prince charming yet. That is, until Harrison Aldridge, old high school flame, pulls up to the corner to rescue the fallen damsel. Lydia can’t exactly give Harrison the truth without blowing her cover, and it takes a series of mishaps and another whole set of misunderstandings before Lydia will even consider letting Harrison back into her life.

In Heather B. Moore’s enchanting novella, A TASTE OF SUN, Winona Grant embarks on a summer-long visit to NYC to house-sit for her great-aunt after a nasty break-up with her boyfriend Paul. But when her aunt commissions neighbor Steve Monti to tour Winona around, they strike a deal. Winona has too many deadlines to play tourist, and Steve is looking for a distraction from his looming gallery opening. So Steve goes on the tours by himself, and Winona reports back to her aunt as if she’d gone too. The longer this happens, the more Winona wants to change her mind. Seeing the city with Steve might be the perfect solution to forgetting about Paul.

In Luisa Perkins’s sweet romance novella, DULCE DE LECHE, Marisol is desperate for another nanny job after being unfairly fired from her previous position. She has only two more semesters of college, but she’s too proud to ask her wealthy parents for financial help. When her potential new employer, a single father working long hours as an anesthesiologist, decides she’s too young and pretty to hire, she practically begs him for the job. Darius finally agrees, and as he watches her work miracles with his Asperger’s son, he realizes there is much more to Marisol than he first believed.

In TAKE A CHANCE, a captivating story by Sarah M. Eden, Miguel Santos has a stopover in New York. When the announcement of delayed flights comes over the PA system, Miguel is looking at spending several hours at the airport. Determined to get comfortable for the long wait, he’s surprised when he spies a familiar face amongst the stranded passengers: Jane Schoonenburg, the last person he expected to see. Three months have passed since he asked Jane to marry him—three months of misery. And now he knows that he must talk to her, if only to find out why she broke his heart.

Annette Lyon’s entrancing novella, FIRSTS AND LASTS, begins with Dani’s last week in New York. She’s failed in her dreams to catch a break as an actress and is now ready to return home and dust herself off. As she visits the places on her final to-see list, she meets Mark, another New York City transplant with big dreams. Except Mark hasn’t given up on his. As they spend the day together, Dani realizes that even though she hasn’t hit the “big time” she might be living her dream after all. Only problem: she has a one-way ticket back home.

In Lisa Mangum’s whimsically titled story: &, Lucy is riding a wave of success at having found a bestselling novel in the slush pile at an exclusive New York publishing house. If only her personal life was storybook perfect as well. Her relationship with Devon is on the rocks, and even though she's been put in charge of the house while her boss is gone on business, Lucy isn't sure she's up to the task. It will take a chance encounter with a handsome wordsmith to help Lucy claim the courage that has always been a part of her heart.

Janette Rallison has five children who keep her well supplied with plot ideas, sometimes even making cameo appearances in her novels. She likes to write romantic comedy because there is enough angst in real life, but theres a drastic shortage on both humor and romance.

Playing the Field was named Society of School Librarians International Best Book Award Honor Book, and both Alls Fair In Love, War, and High School and Love, Life, and the Pursuit of Free Throws were included on YALSAs Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list. 3.5 stars. Another Timeless Romance anthology goes on a 99c Kindle sale, and I always snap them up when they do. It's brain candy, no question, but I definitely get my dollar's worth of amusement and romance feelz from these collections. This one has six novelettes, all set in New York City. The city itself actually does play a fairly significant role in most of these stories; it's not just window-dressing.

Some of the stories here are a little edgier than other Timeless Romance collections seem to be. I was especially amused by Janette Rallison’s "Job Hazards," in which Lydia Robinson, an undercover cop on assignment as a prostitute in a sting operation, is tracked down on the street by her old high school boyfriend who CANNOT BELIEVE she has sunk to such depths. It was pretty funny when she was trying not to break cover while she's talking with Harrison, but at the same time she's trying to give her backup cops (she's wired up) the message that she's not in danger from him.

I found the first three novelettes distinctly more appealing than the second three, though the last story, simply titled "&", has some good moments. They're all fairly short, around 30-40 pages, and I would have liked at least some of them to be a little longer, but you know, they are what they are.

Full review to come, but the collection is still on the 99c sale when I'm writing this, so grab it if clean, light contemporary romance shorts are your literary crack of choice.

I’m always so excited when a new collection is released. I drop what I’m reading and dive in as soon as I can. This one starts out with a bang with Rallison’s story of lost-love and continues to shine with fun lighthearted romances.

Job Hazards by Janette Rallison
Loved it! I had a stupid grin on my face for the majority of the story. Lydia is an undercover cop posing as a hooker when her long lost ex shows up on her corner. I love lost love stories, mainly for that moment when the couple is reunited again. In this case, it was hilarious. I can’t think of a more awkward ex run-in. It was really a charming story and I was sad when it ended. I wanted more of Lydia and Harrison.

A Taste of Sun by Heather Moore
I really enjoyed this one. I loved Winona and Steve, they were a cute couple. I liked the setting and storyline and it’s one I wish were a full-length novel and that I could see Winona's art.

Dulce De Leche by Luisa Perkins
Marisol is very independent, working her way through college and trying to break away from her family. To help support herself she nannies and the story starts with her losing her current job and getting hired on for Dr. Darius Jackson. I thought this was a good story, I wish the romance had been amped up a little. The end felt a bit rushed, but overall it was fun.

Take a Chance by Sarah Eden
This was a sweet one. I liked the setting; Miguel and Jane are stranded at the airport. They broke up three months before and are just running into each other. I thought this was cute; I liked the characters and the cute things Miguel does to try and win Jane back.

First and Lasts by Annette Lyon
Dani and Mark meet on Dani’s last week in New York. They had a great connection and had a lot in common. I thought they were a cute couple and thought it was a fun story. I admit, my practical side had a hard time connecting with them, but it’s always nice to see people follow their dreams.

& by Lisa Mangum
This was a charming little story. I especially liked the meaning behind the “&” it was really sweet. Lucy works for a publishing house in New York, it was fun seeing that side of the business and makes me glad I’m not a writer (I’d much rather read books). I liked Jesse and thought they had a fun relationship and definitely had more in common than she did with her ex Devon.

Overall, I thought it was a fun edition to the Timeless Romance collection. I can't get enough of these!

I love these collections of stories! Each one is unique, as each author spins her tale of the topic given. This collection is all about New York City! I've never been to NYC, but now I really, really want to go. As usual, it's hard for me to choose a favorite. We are given stories about an undercover cop, a house-sitting artist, a nanny, a former couple who meets up again in an airport while stranded (due to bad weather), a woman trying to find her dream as an actress, and someone tied up in the book publishing world. Each story had something to offer and gave me another little piece of an amazing city. I loved the romances that were kindled in fun situations and the little snippets of such different lives. I went through so many emotions while reading these stories.

I laughed out loud while reading JOB HAZARDS. Lydia is posing as a prostitute, as part of her undercover cop work. The situations she found herself in and the people she came across were hilarious and surprising.

My heart melted a little bit in A TASTE OF SUN. Winona has recently gone through a terrible break up and is house-sitting for her aunt. The aunt asks a neighbor to show her around so that she doesn't spend the whole summer inside, hiding. Steve is very persistent and I loved the way he draws her out.

I felt pride in DULCE DE LECHE. Marisol comes from a well-to-do family in Chile, yet she is determined to go through college on her own, paying her own way. She's a hard-working nanny and is soooo great with the kids! How can she not draw the attention of their father?

TAKE A CHANCE drew me into a small little world--La Guardia airport, to be exact. This one seemed to be through a male point of view, which was different. Miguel is determined to win Jane back and what better way to try than when stranded in a place where she can't run. His determination and sweetness were so endearing.

I felt heartbreak throughout FIRSTS AND LASTS. Dani has given herself a 6 month deadline to make it or break it before heading back home to the Mid-West. Shortly before she leaves, she has a chance meeting with Mark and the sparks fly instantly. I loved watching them go through her list of things to see before she leaves. Really...how can she leave?!

& is a fun story about Lucy, a girl who discovered the next great book in the publishing world. I loved watching her come into her own and see her confidence build. I felt such strength is seeing her stand up for herself and realize her dreams.

As always, I'm looking forward to what's next in the Timeless Romance Collection world.

Content: the 2nd and 6th stories had a few mild expletives; no violence; lots of good, old-fashioned romance with mild kissing. Clean!

This collection is a fabulous read. With Janette Rallison, a romantic comedy novelist, you can't go wrong. The collection starts off with her novella. Each story takes place in NY city, and each are unique, yet romantic and sweet. In addition to Annette Lyon, Sarah M. Eden, and *me*, Lisa Mangum and Luisa Perkins have also contributed. Their novellas are very charming and if you haven't read their books yet, you'll become an instant fan.

So far I've just read the first story, Job Hazards by Janette Rallison. I loved it! I was very excited to see that Janette Rallison was contributing to this collection, and I wasn't disappointed. Janette Rallison has a gift with putting her characters into awkward and embarrassing situations. I'm sure they don't love it as much as I do! In this story, Lydia is working undercover as a police officer to crack down on prostitution. Of course, that is the perfect time for karma to send her former high school sweetheart her way. What follows is a sweet and funny start to the Summer in New York Timeless Romance Anthology. I was laughing out loud, and going back to read the story again.
...
Now I have completed the rest of the collection. Job Hazards is still my favorite (I've read it four times now). The other stories were just what I have come to expect from the Timeless Romance Anthologies: they were sweet, funny, and in this collection, contemporary. I found myself wanting to book a flight to New York. The other stories included: a nanny, an actress, an artist, a publisher, and a couple who are stranded at the airport.

A Timeless Romance Anthology: Summer Wedding Collection from last year is still my favorite in the series, but Summer in New York came awfully close.

Content: kissing and mild innuendo

Just two comments for now:

1) I enjoyed this collection on average more than I usually enjoy the contemporary timeless collections. The historical ones are my favorite!

2) The end of the last story just barely crossed my chaste limit of my "I'd recommend this book to my daughter" line. It's definitely technically clean, but right at the end, the male protagonist makes a couple of comments to the female protagonist that make me wonder what direction they're headed in. Bummer!

I'm always excited to read a new Timeless Romance Anthology, and they are perfect for re-reading at the end of a long day. I recently took my first trip to NYC and I knew I had to read this anthology again since I could picture the setting so much better! These are fun stories that transported me back there and put a smile on my face :)

This collection of six contemporary, clean romances all take place in New York City during the summer, but they're all different. Again, one of the novellas was from an author I hadn't read before, which is one reason I like these collections.

JOB HAZARDS by Janette Rallison--Lydia Robinson is a cop working undercover as a hooker when her former high school boyfriend,Harrison Aldridge, who she hasn't seen in six years, stops on her corner to "rescue" her from her life on the street. This was one of the most awkward and funny second-chance-at-love stories I've ever read. I laughed so much while reading this one, I wish it had been a little longer. It was one of my favorites.

A TASTE OF SUN by Heather B. Moore--Winona is house sitting during the summer for her Aunt who's in Europe. She's also mending a broken heart from a recent breakup with her boyfriend. Winona's Aunt has asked a neighbor, handsome Steve Monti, to take Winona sightseeing so she doesn't spend all of her time working. At first, Winona doesn't go sightseeing, but Steve eventually gets her to go with him. This is a story that reads like a book. I liked Steve and Winona together.

Dulce De Leche by Luisa Perkins--Marisol is from a wealthy family in Chile, but lives in NYC and has put herself through school while working as a nanny. Dr. Darius Jackson needs a nanny for his two children while they live with him during the summer. Marisol is NOT the nanny he was expecting but turns out to be exactly what his children need. I enjoyed this story and really liked Marisol's independence and how she was with the children. I thought the ending was a little hurried.

TAKE A CHANCE by Sarah M. Eden--LaGuardia airport doesn't seem like the typical place for a second-chance-at-love story but that's where Miguel and Jane, who broke up three months before, run in to each other when the weather delays all flights from NYC to Denver. He knows this is his one chance to find out why she broke up with him and try to win her back. I really liked this cute story told from Miguel's viewpoint. I loved the part where Miguel and Jane are competing for the cheesiest souvenir, and of course the Broadway cast of Mama Mia! breaking out in song.

FIRSTS AND LASTS by Annette Lyon--Dani went to NYC to pursue her dream of being on broadway but after 6 months the dream is fading and she's run out of money. While doing things on her "Firsts and Lasts" list, before she moves back home, she meets Mark, who's handsome and likes a lot of the same things Dani likes. They become fast friends and he helps her spend the last 10 days of her time in NYC checking off items on her "Firsts and Lasts" list. Mark also came to NYC pursuing a dream but he refuses to give up on his. Can he convince Dani to stay in NYC and continue pursuing her dream instead of returning home to the Midwest? Such a wonderful love story that's based on friendship and mutual interests.

& by Lisa Mangum--Lucy works at a publishing house and is filling in for her boss while she's out of town. Things are going pretty good at work since Lucy discovered a bestselling novel in a slush pile but her love life isn't doing as well. Things seem to be cooling down with Devon, who also works at the publishing house. Luckily for Lucy she finds a small print shop down the street when she finds out the Kinko's is closed. There she meets Jesse, who loves words and reading as much as she does. I wondered about the title to this story but you'll have to read it to find out.

This is another great collection of stories in the Timeless Romance series.

Job Hazards
This was a fun, sweet story about high school sweethearts getting a second chance at love. Lydia & Harrison had an unpleasant breakup at the end of high school. Six years have passed and they haven't seen or heard from one another until one night when Lydia is working the streets of New York as an undercover cop in a prositution sting. Poor Harrison thinks the girl he left behind has fallen to prostitution to make ends meet and so he tries to rescue her. What he gets is cuffed by New York's finest.

I really enjoyed this fun novella and getting a glimpse into Lydia & Harrison's lives. I'd love to read more about their budding relationship.

A Taste of Sun
Winona is not impressed with Steve. While he's definitely easy on the eyes, all she really knows is that he was called a "two-timer" by a woman right before he got on the elevator. Plus, she was coming off a bad break-up so the last thing she needed was to get involved with Steve. However, Winona's Aunt Genevieve had asked Steve to show her the sights of New York. Winona manages to skip out on their first two trips, but can't help but be intrigued as he continues to attempt to fulfill his commitment to her aunt. When Winona finally relents and accompanies him she finds that appearances can be deceiving and maybe not all men are jerks like her ex Paul was.

This was another quick and fun read that left me wanting more.

Dulce de Leche
Marisol is a hardworking young woman who has been working as a nanny to help finance her college degree. She is unexpectedly released from her employment of 3 years right before summer begins and finds herself frustrated and in desperate need of a new position so she can finish up her schooling. Darius is a single father who only has custody of his 2 boys during the summer. Being an anesthesiologist, he still needs a full-time nanny even though he cuts his work schedule down to the bare minimun during the boys' summer stay. When Marisol arrives at his door he immediately tells her she won't work out for him. His last nanny was a young college girl who was incessantly flirting and otherwise trying to catch his attention romantically - he didn't want a repeat of that. When he discovers Marisol is the only nanny available who has the required special needs background for his son, he reluctantly gives her a chance.

I enjoyed this cute story and how Marisol was able to soften up the strict rules that Darius had in place without coming across as critical or by overstepping her bounds. I truly appreciated the interactions she had with Reed, who has Aspergar's. I would have preferred this as a longer novel as I felt that in order for Darius and Marisol to come to the point they are at when the story ends, more detail and interaction was needed. Considering where the two began with their histories and their personal prejudices and perspectives I felt a lot more dialogue between the two & personal introspection for each of them was needed.

Take a Chance
This was such a fun read! Poor Miguel - he's been miserable ever since his girlfriend turned down his marriage proposal 3 months earlier & now he's stuck in Laguardia airport due to weather delays. As fate would have it, his ex-girlfriend, Jane, was scheduled on the same flight bound for their home of Denver, Colorado. Miguel can't ignore fate knocking on the door and tries desperately to start a conversation with Jane and find out where things went wrong. Unbeknownst to Miguel, Jane has also been lonely the past 3 months, but she's not ready to address the sensitive topic of their breakup. Thanks to a little help from 5 cast members of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia, Miguel is able to help remind Jane of the fun times they had together, and show her that there are still memories to be made - but is she willing to "take a chance" on him?

I really enjoyed this quick read. It was full of fun and surprises, especially considering it takes place entirely in an airport terminal.

Firsts and Lasts
The story of Dani & Mark is a quick glimpse into the lives of two artists trying to make their way in the Big Apple. Dani has dreams of being on Broadway, and Mark has dreams of making it big in a symphony. Both have struggled to make ends meet with less than ideal jobs while auditioning and yet still the dream is out of reach. Their chance meeting at the MMA leads to a whirlwind of memorable experiences as they tackle Dani's list of places she needs to visit for the "first and last" time before she gives up her dream and heads back to Illinois.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures Dani & Mark had over the ten days Dani had remaining in New York and I loved how they connected on such a deep level. Wonderful quick read for a lazy afternoon.

&
Lucy is a girl after my own heart. She loves books and words - due to a little bit of luck she pitched a manuscript to the publisher she was interning for and it became a bestseller. That success led to her getting a full-time job as an assistant to Monica (the publisher). She has been dating Devon who works in sales for Baker Publishing also, but ever since Lucy's promotion things haven't been quite the same. While Monica is out of town she tasks Lucy with ordering invitations for a lavish event celebrating the book that Lucy helped find. It's after midnight when Lucy finally has the invitation ready to print, but her 24-hour Kinko's is closed for remodeling - what is she to do? Fortunately, Lucy was taught well by her grandfather that there is always and "and". You can always move beyond any problem you face simply by adding "and". Lucy does exactly that and finds a new printer "&". The dreamy Jesse who is co-owner of & is willing to handprint her invitations for her. As they get to know one another he teaches her yet another perspective on the word "and". It's amazing what one little word can do for someone.

I think this was my favorite in this anthology. It was a true delight to read and immerse myself in. Lucy is adorable & Jesse is the perfect guy to help smooth out her rough edges and help her inner beauty and strength shine.

I always feel just a little bit lucky when I get to read and review these romance anthology books. I have loved them from the beginning. I feel like I say pretty much the same thing every time I review one, but the thing is- I always feel the same way!

This collection brought in a few authors that don't usually appear in these anthologies. Janette Rallison, Luisa Perkins and Lisa Mangum. What a great addition! I loved reading their short stories in addition to the more familiar names that usually come with these anthologies. Janette Rallison really starts the book off right with her short story. She has a knack for writing with humor that always leaves a smile on my face.

I think this anthology collection was one of my favorites. It was probably a combination of the New York contemporary setting, the added flavor of new authors and some fabulous writing by all.

These stories are all so good. You just cannot go wrong with this book. Read them all at once in one giant feast or one by one, here and there as a snack you can. Either way you are in for a treat. (I swear I'm not hungry.) :)

Content: There is some mild swearing scattered throughout.

***A received a copy of this book from one of the authors in exchange for my honest review.***

Job Hazards by Janette Rallison: Cute story reuniting high school sweethearts under very awkward circumstances. I enjoyed the characters, the humor, and the little bit of action.

A Taste of Sun by Heather B. Moore: Cute way to approach a romance - girl goes to NYC to apartment-sit for her aunt, guy hurries onto the elevator as another girl calls after him that he's a two-timing jerk, then girl finds out two-timing jerk is the guy her aunt has asked to entertain her while she's there. LOL I thought it was cute how he reported to her on all the "excursions" so their stories were straight. I would have loved to actually see Winona's art as it was described as so unique and intriguing.

Dulce de Lecheby Luisa Perkins: Fun characters. I was a little worried with the "rich doctor falls for nanny" cliche and a bit of it felt like Spanglish to me (not closely, just reminded me of that a bit), but I enjoyed the characters and the way the author told the story. I did have to look up some of the things Marisol said in Spanish that I was not familiar with, and I definitely want to try the alfajores - they sound divine!!! I definitely giggled about the dad trying to eat so healthy and make his kids eat healthy when he had to gag down his own protein drink, fun little touch to the story with that aspect. First time reading this author and am definitely interested in her other books.

Take a Chance by Sarah M. Eden: This is a cute story set in the airport, for all those people who travel and have only been in airports of lots of cities! LOL I liked the incorporation of Broadway and how it relates to the title, cute idea. The characters were fun, well developed, and we got very developed information on their background and history. I also liked that the ending wasn't happily ever after, that it acknowledged reality and how things really happen in real life.

Firsts and Lasts by Annette Lyon: Another interesting approach to NYC - leaving after living there and trying to do everything for the first time before you don't get another chance. Cute story of the 2 characters, their chance meeting, their similar situations, and how they fall in love and deal with the firsts and lasts. Also, busking was a different element for me. I know people do it all the time in the city but never knew that's what it was called.

& by Lisa Magnum: I thoroughly enjoyed this short story -- everything about it. I was intrigued by the simple "&" for the title and loved how it came to be, from the store name to her grandpa's advice and then woven throughout the story. Great characters, loved the setting. I want to visit that (fictional) print shop! LOL I even wanted to read the (fictional) book talked about in the short story. I've had this author's books on my to-read list and now I know I must read them sooner rather than later!!!

Overall, I was surprised at how the different authors wove New York into their stories. Some obvious famous places mentioned, some lesser known or just everyday life, and then, of course, the approach of only the airport but still including Broadway. I really enjoyed this anthology, especially after being in New York recently!!

I don't know how many times I'll say it, but I LOVE these Timeless Romance Anthologies. I love reading romances - especially good, clean romances. And that is what these collections are full of. Romance and excitement and lots of fun.

For example, in Janette Rallison’s delightful novella, JOB HAZARDS, Lydia is "working a corner" as an undercover cop until an old high school flame comes by to save her from a bad life. It's a hilarious story with very witty characters that made me laugh and roll my eyes. Or take a look at A TASTE OF SUN by Heather B. Moore. Winona goes to New York to house-sit for her aunt who in turn has asked the upstairs neighbor to show Winona around and help her have fun.

Not only is each story fun, though. I noticed that in this collection, the books had more serious underlying themes. They were still fun, but they also really reached into my heart. Like the character Marisol in Luisa Perkins's DULCE DE LECHE who has had to work for everything she has received and how she deals with rude employers. Or Dani and Mark in the wonderful novella FIRSTS AND LASTS. They were such amazing characters - dreamers trying to make it big in New York City. They meet right when Dani has decided to give up and go home but wants to do a few things first that she's never done before - like visit the Metropolitan Museum.

Then I got super giddy and giggly reading TAKE A CHANCE, a captivating story by Sarah M. Eden. Miguel gets stuck in an airport due to delays and is surprised to find out that his ex-girlfriend is on the same flight. He decides that during their wait at the airport he is going to try to win her back, and goodness gracious he is one charming man!!! And then in Lisa Mangum’s whimsically titled story: &, (brilliant, right?) when hard-working Lucy got a big break and gets a party to celebrate, who knew she'd find courage and her real self when she goes to print the invitations and meets Jesse. Jesse, by the way, is a fantastic example of tall, dark and handsome.

Overall, I loved this collection. I love the discoveries that the characters made about themselves and the other people in their lives and how it changes them. It opened my eyes to love all around me - especially the love I share with Husband. Wonderful wonderful wonderful read. The end.

I do not usually like short stories but when I saw Janette Rallison's name on this, I decided to try it out. I am going to "grade" each story here then average the "grades" to get the star rating.

Rating 5.0. Job Hazards by Janette Rallison. Honestly, I love pretty much anything Jeanette writes and this was no exception! Loved this little story! I love how Rallison is funny when she is also being serious.

Rating 3.0. A Taste of Sun by Heather B. Moore. I was really on board with the story until [spoiler alert] Winona came to Steve's apartment after their first date. It was so fast that it was kind of creepy to me, despite the fact that Steve was a very likable character. The problem I have with short stories is that there is sometimes not enough room for the story to get much traction or for the story to take great leaps like this one did. But this was still a okay story.

Rating 3.5. Dulce de Leche by Luisa Perkins. I would have liked this story to have been longer, particularly at the very end. It felt rushed. Nice characters, however.

Rating 2.0. Take a Chance by Sarah Eden. I didn't like this one (not the story or the characters) but I did finish it so it is an automatic 2 stars.

Rating 3.5. Firsts and Lasts by Annette Lyon. Nice little story, engaging characters and "plot."

Rating 1.5. & by Lisa Mangum. I liked this one least of all. Because I finished it, I have to give it 2.0 but, if it had been any longer, I wouldn't have finished it at all. So I am rating this 1.5, but I should rate it 1. I just did not like the characters or the story here.

Average of the above ratings: 3 stars.

What a wonderful collection of stories. In “Job Hazards” you giggle over mistaken assumptions when one former classmate suspects another one to be a hooker. Add in the complications of social media and a high school class reunion and an intervention that involves sirens and flashing lights.
Next enjoy a digital artist escaping heartbreak in Irvine while residing in her Aunt’s New York City apartment with “A taste of Sun”. She gets to see the city sites with her Aunt’s neighbor even when she doesn’t leave the apartment.
In “Dulce de Leche” nanny, Marisol gets a great opportunity when she interviews in the penthouse apartment.
“Take a chance” rekindles a romance using broadway music while being stranded in the airport.
Feel like a tourist as you follow Dani and Mark through the streets of New York, including Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Even enjoy the best hot dogs in “Firsts & Lasts”.
“&” feels almost magical when Lucy finds everything she needs for a reception invitation inside a renovated kinkos.
Each story is fresh and takes you on a different adventure in the city that never sleeps. The best compliment that I can give to each author and story is they were too darn short. The characters were so alive and real they felt like people you might actually know. Another winner.

These collections always hit the spot! The stories are the perfect length for a quick romance fix.

Job Hazards by Janette Rallison - Hilarious! Talk about an awkward meet up with an ex. It was a great second chance story!

A Taste of Sun by Heather B. Moore - I loved the way Steve handled Winona's refusal to tour the city with him. So cute! I admired his openness and honesty and loved the support Winona gave him.

Dulce De Leche by Luisa Perkins - Marisol was so sweet, and amazing with Darius' boys. I wish I could taste her baking! I loved the way the relationship developed in the story.

Take a Chance by Sarah M. Eden - What a random way to get a second chance. It was fun to watch the little things Miguel did to try and get Jane to talk to him. I loved the surprise help he got from some other passengers!

Firsts and Lasts by Annette Lyon - I loved the instant connection between Mark and Dani, and the way they encouraged each other to follow their dreams. I'd love to see them in the park!

& by Lisa Mangum - Jesse was a poet! He made my heart melt. He and Lucy were perfect for each other. I loved the meaning behind the "&."

I've read other titles in the A Timeless Romance Anthology and this one is among my favorites. The stories are short, sweet romances that read fast yet have developed engaging characters. The New York setting in the summer came across vivid and fresh in all six stories, each bringing something a little different from the others. It surely made me wish I could go to New York for a week or two.

It's really hard to pick a favorite story from this collection. The characters are all distinctive and each story had a sweet taste of romance, funny situations, and even poignant moments.

Highly recommend this one.

Janette Rallison’s - JOB HAZARDS - 5 stars - loved this one about Lydia & Harrison...at the end I was so upset because I realized it was just a novella. :o( Moral Note: Talk about prositution

Heather B. Moore’s- A TASTE OF SUN - 3.5 stars Winona & Steve Monti are cute characters, not a ton of meat to this story, just ok for me.

Luisa Perkins-DULCE DE LECHE - 3.5 stars - cute and predicatble - moral note: some leering and talk of a female flaunting herself at a male.

TAKE A CHANCE- by Sarah M. Eden - 3 stars - just ok for me

Annette Lyon-FIRSTS AND LASTS - 3 stars - again, just ok

Lisa Mangum’s - & - 4 stars - very cute and fun

Delightfully entertaining!!!!! I love these anthologies! They give me just enough of each story. My favorite was Janette Rallison's "Job Hazzards." I think I needed a good laugh. It was hilarious! I was completely hooked. Each story gives us a different perspective of The City and the lives of those living in it. Now that I have enjoyed these stories I think I am ready to jump into another novel. This was a terrific breather!

Great collection of short stories. One was of high school sweethearts reunited. A few were able couples getting together as they explored New York. Others about misconceptions the couples had about one another. I read them in one day and was disappointed to be done. I look forward to the next collection.

One thing I always loved about summer was the possibility of a summer romance. When reading the Summer in New York Collection, I was taken back to that feeling of hopeful possibilities.
Each story had a different feel and the characters were colorful and vibrant. I especially loved Lisa Mangum's story and secretly wished I had stumbled upon a print shop - and gorgeous master printer - too!

Sadly this was my least favorite of all these cute anthologies. I'm not much into contemporary romances or New York and most of the stories didn't have that spark I love. All of them were cute and well written just not for me.

Another wonderful collection of stories from some of my favorite authors! I love these collections -- all so different and yet tied together by a central theme. And while I love that I can read a story in one sitting, I always end up wishing they were just a little bit longer!

Not my most favorite batch of stories from the Timeless Romance Anthology Collection, but good stories none the less. It was fun to spend some time in New York City. Can't wait for the next edition.

It's really hard to rate an anthology: some stories you love and some are okay. Nice anthology with some sparkling moments.

I always enjoy the Timeless romance anthologies. Six stories in one book is a little tougher since there isn't time to delve very deep into the story. I tend to prefer ones that are second chance romances as opposed to insta-love.

Job Hazards was pretty fun. It is a second chance romance that starts in the most awkward situation ever. Harrison comes upon Lydia while she is undercover as a hooker. The whole situation was amusing. Except for Harrison. Not so amusing for him. It took longer for me to warm up to him since he was so judgmental both in high school and during the story.

A Taste of Sun was more on the insta-love scale but at least it wasn't insta-insta. I liked Steve and Winona even if she was a bit offish in the beginning. It was fun that he reported back to her what their outings had been like when she wouldn't go.

Dulce de Leche was neither insta-love or second chance. It was more of a slow burn romance and in truth, we really didn't get to see the romance. The whole story was either as employee/employer or friendship. Not until the very end do we really see the romantic nature of the relationship and by then the story is over. The interracial factor was an interesting twist that I don't see very often in these kinds of books.

Take a Chance was second chance romance from a recent break up instead of long lost love. I had a harder time with believably with them getting back together so quickly. Also that she was so unclear with her feelings during the time of their break up. But it was fun to think about Broadway performers doing an impromptu show in the airport when everyone was stuck there. I would have liked that when I've been stuck with a cancelled flight.

Firsts and Lasts is definitely an Insta-love story but I still thought it was kind of lovely for them to see the city together. Mark was a bit pushy in his desire to change Dani's plan but it was sweet at the same time.

& was more on the insta-love side but mostly it was just Jesse showing Lucy that she was worth more than what the voices in her life were giving her credit for. I thought Lucy was a little vindictive toward Devon but he wasn't a very nice person really. Jesse was kind of a perfect love interest. This story had a bit of innuendo at the end that didn't really fit the rest of the story so it stuck out as weird to me.

Job Hazards by Janette Rallison-4.5 stars...This was just what I needed. Light, funny and super sweet. Lydia was hilarious with her sharp tongue and quick wit. Harrison was a charming gentleman. I listened to the audio with my niece and we both could not stop laughing. Such a loveable story with loveable MCs.

A Taste of Sun by Heather B. Moore-3.5 stars...Another lovely story.

Dulce de Leche by Luisa Perkins-3 stars...This was a nice beach read. Loved Marisol’s Chilean culture.

Take a Chance by Sarah M. Eden-3 stars...Cute story, loved the broadway actors. The ending wasn’t very satisfying. It did leave me with a bit of hope for Miguel and Jane but there was still a lot of uncertainty.

Firsts and Lasts by Annette Lyon-3 stars...Adorable story about pursuing your dreams and never giving up.

& by Lisa Mangum-3 stars...Didn’t appreciate that Lucy hadn’t officially ended things with her boyfriend before going out with Jesse. However, once that was resolved, Lucy and Jesse’s story was fun and romantic.
