This book is cute! As a big fan of both comic books and manga, this book was right up my alley. I will admit, I was a bit confused when I started the book. There was so much happening and I hadn't fully grasped the art style yet. However, I did really enjoy this book once I was more accustomed to it all. Spider-Man: Kizuna is split between a few different villain arcs: Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Venom, and Mysterio. I didn't really enjoy the Doc Ock story, but I really liked the rest of them. I also greatly enjoyed all of the easter eggs and nods to different characters from Marvel history such as Jeff the Land Shark, Doop, Swamp Thing, and more. There were also fun references to different media such as the tokusatsu shows (via large scale mecha/kaiju battle) and ghost stories. While this book was certainly intended for younger audiences, I found myself really enjoying it by the end.
I would recommend this book to fans of Spider-Man and manga, or to anyone that just wants a quick, light-hearted superhero story.
What the heck, how'd the story get this good. Noticeable step up from volume 1. Lots of deep cuts for Spidey fans, but also the direct lore starts to get fleshed out in simple but effective ways. The main kids being referred to as the Kizuna Crew is also very cute, and the fact they start acting more as a unit alongside Yu/Spidey help the story break out of its Saturday Morning cookie cutter formula.
