I have been an avid reader my entire life. As a youth, I exhausted the science fiction section of the Zanesville, Ohio public library, falling in love with André Norton. I am a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The Ohio State University’s honors program, and I graduated from OSU’s Moritz College of Law with honors, where I was Managing Editor of The Ohio State Law Journal. I continue a thriving legal practice in M&A and commercial and corporate law in Toledo, Ohio, and I am blessed with a fine husband and three wonderful children, as well as a special niece.
A few years ago, I undertook a study of ancient history and discovered how little is known apart from tales labeled as mere mythology. Sumerian tablets, which have only recently been translated, tell stories of the “ones who came from the stars” to dwell among Earth people and teach them. About this time, human knowledge of agriculture exploded. Sumerian cities were sophisticated. Although the starmen possessed sophisticated technology, they were ruled by a father and his two sons. The son governing Earth was described as a mere adolescent. And so, I began to ponder current social trends that might lead to a global tech kingdom governed by a single family, and why those people might search out the primitive people of Earth and decide to nurture them. As above, so below. My ponderings led to The Alterran Legacy Series. My first installment, Colony Earth, was released in October 2012, and it won the first place 2012 global eLit Award in science fiction/fantasy. The second installment, Khamlok, was released in March 2013. The third, Resurrection, is in publication, and I am writing the last volume, Redemption.

This series keeps getting better and better - and there's so much research behind all the action. Aliens, whose own planet is dying, helping primitive Earth people to advance culturally and technologically...to save both of their peoples.

From the subsurface, evacuated residents of Alterra to those left behind on Earth, this book caught me from the beginning. I admit I took a dislike to the autocratic Lil in Khamlok (Book 2), but he definitely made up for it in this book. Oh, and not just to me, either...but to say more would be a spoiler and I don't do those.

The ending seemed a little odd to me, until I realised that it was based on actual events from early Earth history. That just blew me away - for Ms Joseph's descriptions of the events leading up to the end of this book had me so caught up in the fictional story, it was hard to discern fiction from fact. Ah, in this kind of alternate early history - who knows? Perhaps the entire story is true, as she tells it. I think this is what makes the whole Alterran Legacy series so addictive.

I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Given how much I enjoyed the first two books in the series, I knew I was going to like this already. I didn't expect it to be the best in the series so far - yet it absolutely is. I didn't want to stop reading this one until I didn't have a choice - the book ended and now I have to wait patiently for the next one.

Having read the first two books in this brilliant series I wasn't going to let the opportunity to read Resurrection pass me by. I really can't praise this series enough. From storytelling to research it is simply excellent and I would hesitate to recommend it.

Third Book in the Alterran Legacy Series

In Colony Earth, the first installment of the Alterran Legacy Series, the resiliency of beings and their ability to adapt to any living conditions are explored.

In Khamlok, Lil continued to develop his leadership abilities as factions were forced to work together. The colony, a new small-scale civilization, served as a melting pot for different cultures.

Now, the tale continues with Resurrection. Lil takes an action which carries far-reaching ramifications.

'Near Morgana, a woman stumbled. She crawled to Morgana’s feet and grabbed her boot. She sobbed in the common tongue, “Please, we’re hungry. I won’t hurt you. Food.”

'Morgana hesitated. What am I doing? As she bent over with an extended hand, the woman spit in her face, pulled a dull knife from her shawl and jabbed weakly at Morgana’s leather boot. Instinctively, she jerked her leg and beheaded the woman. I won’t make that mistake again.'

The series was inspired by the original Sumerian tale. The story was carved into clay tablets, and the tablets were discovered in Sumerian ruins. Award-winning author Regina Joseph applies her incredible imagination and storytelling abilities to the question: What if? At the same time, she drills through the layers of society, baring the motivations and consequences of socioeconomic forces.

This is the third book in the series, and although I haven’t read the first two, I was still able to enjoy this story. Now that I’ve read this one, I need to go back and read the first two.

This book is very intriguing. Even though I don’t normally read sci-fi, I really enjoyed this one. The author was able to show different views on things and that’s absolutely fascinating to me. Miss Regina Joseph has done her research and uses her imagination to create this amazing story. Honestly, many times, it left me wondering of what if’s…

It’s easy to get attached to the characters and now that I’m attached, I will be anxiously waiting for the final installment in the series.

I highly recommend this series to all those that want to be captivated by a story. I’m very impressed with the author’s imagination. All you sci-fi fanatics, this is a must read.

It's easy to take the quality of writing in this series for granted but the research and reference to historical findings always amazes me. This is a wonderful series that could genuinely be called an 'epic' It is far ranging and imaginative and like the best SF books it gets you thinking about possibilities.
