Nighthawks #2

Find Me on the Ice: Hockey Romance

Rate this book
Her past is coming for her, and when it does, it's not going down without a fight.
Nikki Satinn lives a peaceful life running a coffee shop with her best friend. Everything is going according to plan: blend in, keep minimal connections, and find happiness in the simple things. The only problem with her seemingly perfect life is that Nikki Satinn doesn't actually exist.
Cam Costello, an illustrious wing of the New York Nighthawks, is a beast on the ice. Having endured enough turmoil and loss, he follows two rules: focus solely on hockey and his team, and allow no emotional attachments. But a pink-haired and blue-eyed girl makes him question if loving again is worth the risk of pain.
When they meet at a masquerade party, their guards drop, and their rules fade. But their night of freedom from their haunting pasts is cut short, and they are forced back to their realities.
As fate brings them together again, Nikki must choose between the comfort of her fake life or risk being exposed to the spotlight of the NHL hockey player who has stolen her heart.

This book is literal proof of why you should read the reviews on books and not just watch a tik tok from the author and immediately go read it. The writing of the book was so bad. I feel like if the author wants to improve her writing she should take notes while writing, you can tell she left it for a couple of days and then came back to writing the next chapter. For example. Chloe says Nikki's name to Cam, and the next fucking phrase is I don't know her name. MOTHERFUCKER. CHOLE JUST SAID IT. Also, Cam gives Nikki his number and in the next chapter Chole mentions how she should just go get his number. CHOLE WAS WITH HER WHEN HE GAVE HER THE NUMBER. Nikki even complained about how she shouldn't have done that in the car WITH CHLOE. I feel like this whole book deserves a rewrite this book has potential and if u aren't bothered by writing mistakes then I guess this is a good book.

this was so cute and romantic omg. both cam and morgan were so so perfect! i just wished there wasn’t the whole long distance aspect and i wish the epilogue was further in the future.

I'm dead, for real!!!

I knew this book was gonna be fire by the dedication!!

Book's Spotify Playlist:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1aL...

This freaking book made me an emotional bundle! There are a few parts in the book that are mentioning tough situations, so please check TW! I was palm twitchingly mad reading these parts and all i wanted was to hug Cam and Nikki/Morgan!

Nikki/Morgan aka little dove is a survivor and a tough gal, i loved her resilience and strength, not everyone can get out of what she was trapped in!!!

Cam is a survivor as well, he was tortured and lost the most important person on earth, but he pushed through! I love how he's protective and respectful when it comes to Nikki!

Both of them knew what it meant to be abused, gaslighted and belittled, so them meeting eachother was inevitable!!!

But don't be fooled by all that, this book is SPICYYYY as well and with lots of hockey moments!

Chloe is definitely my spirit animal and i definitely need to know more about her!!

First and foremost a huge thank you to Pru for sending me this ARC!!! I am always grateful to receive them 😊.

**Please make sure you check out the content warnings before reading**

Ahhh 😱!!!! I cannot believe this! It’s here & OMG, so worth the wait. I just had to read this in one sitting. I would not & could not put this book down to do my responsibilities. Nope, nope, nope. The emotional roller coaster Pru takes us on with this book is just mind boggling, crazy good.

Nikki & Cam are intense. Like sparks flying, all around action & love. My heart just aches for these two & their pasts. I was so gloat they found each other. With Nikki finally taking a chance on living for one night she found the best thing ever! Cam! Cam fell freaking hard for Nikki. He had no chance of forgetting her after that first kiss. I really enjoyed seeing them grow as characters & become stronger together. Also Chloe & Brett are the best best friends these two could have & I found myself wanting to know more about them 😊.

Um the spice I was not prepared for. I kind of expect some but I think this is the spiciest book Pru has written to date 🤔. I’m pretty sure but hot damn 🥵. Cam… what the heck. I think it must be a hockey player thing to be like over protective teddy bears who are just sexy as hell. If you want books about love definitely check out Pru’s books! They’re some of the best ones!!! Ugh I love this book so much 🥰.

🕊️ what to expect:
— strangers to lovers
— hockey romance
— long distance relationship
— secret past
— he falls first
— dual pov
— he calls her little dove

That boy is mine!!! Me taking about Cam. THE MAN CAM COSTELLO IS.

I’m just in love with this book wholeheartedly. This story was really emotional to read about and gosh Nikki/Morgan has been one of the strongest and inspiring fmc I have read about in a long while. I couldn’t put this book down that’s how amazing it was and I certainly didn’t want it to end. This hockey romance was also so romantic and cute and Cam and Nikki were just so perfect together.

This is a strangers to lovers, he falls first hockey romance with a plot that revolves around a secret past. the flashbacks of Nikki was just so emotional and I definitely teared up multiple times. Gosh she’s just so strong and cam was too. Cam’s family history was also just so sad and I really think they found solace in each other and healed together. I really love the found family trope in these books and the Nighthawks dynamics with all the guys.

The “big moment” of the book was so nerve wracking but I’m so glad about how it turned out. Nikki got to reclaim her old self again as Morgan and that was so special to watch unfold. This series is seriously so good and I can’t wait to read Charlotte and Reed’s story next.

“I will always stare at you. I can’t help it. My eyes were made just to see you. In a room full of people, I would spot you in a heartbeat.”

why is everything in this book so awkward?

the main question i asked myself is why there is a detailed smut scene between the mmc and another woman in Chapter 2. ok, it's not entirely detailed but it's more than i want and need to know.

i‘m sorry but everything that the mmc did gave me the ick, i can’t finish this.

Omg this book was everything, the trauma bond, the way pru expressed the sexual chemistry and desires of the characters (cam in particular) but how they took the relationship slow and formed a genuine connection first, love, love, love

It was a little bit trashy and a little bit too slow, but somehow I was very entertained and wanted to keep going. There are some very relatable and beautiful quotes in here and it‘s a very important topic, talking about abusive relationships. Therefore I just wish they would‘ve talked about it a little more and sooner.

Dear all authors; Please restraint the overuse of pet names

To put into context it was bugging me so much I looked up the usage: 108 times.

From page 37 to page 48 the pet name was used…. 20 times.

That’s twice a page guys.

“One day, Nikki, I want to show you the stars, the ones that only exist in the darkness of your closed eyes, that only form because of how good I make you feel.” SWOOOOOON.

This book was a very sweet and lightly grey book (due to the TW’s, which SPOILER I think the author should mention miscarriage as a possible TW). I think it’s important for some readers to be aware of before they enter this book.

This book has a few moments where it confused me. The entire book we have her ex referred to as her ex boyfriend but later on in the series they briefly mention how she was married to him then a few chapters later he’s back to being the boyfriend. I also have some mixed feelings about her miscarriage. Before they mention her miscarriage they talk about how her ex didn’t ever sexually abuse her but also how they didn’t seem to be having ‘relations’ together and how he was getting it somewhere else but then she says she has a miscarriage and I’m like how did she get pregnant? Maybe they told us that it was early on in the relationship when she had the miscarriage and I didn’t catch that (If so I apologize). I wish they had either gone into more depth about a very serious topic or just left it out of the story line completely. I also wish we had more details about how she faked her death with just hair, clothes, and jewelry. In the book we’re told it’s “better if we don’t know the details” about how she fake dies but nobody is going to accept that she’s dead especially a cop without dental records or a body of some type, and even then they would have her parents or her husband(??) confirm the body. This small plot hole made it hard for me to give this book 5 stars because the entire series I kept asking myself every time they mentioned her fake dying it didn’t allow me to fully get into the book.

4.5⭐️I’ve been waiting for this book since last summer when I read the first one of the series. Find Me on The Ice was such a beautiful story to read. I loved Nikki, what she’s been through helped her being the person she is, such a strong and comforting woman, I loved her with all my heart. Do we even have to talk about Cam? He’s a sweetheart, I’ll be dreaming a lot about him in the next few weeks👀❤️. I was completely mesmerized by Cam and Nikki’s love story. The trust that they both had for each other was something else. A huge thank you goes to the author, thank you for sending me the ARC, can’t wait for what’s next🫶🏼

This book was so much heavier than I anticipated but I did really like it!

There was a lot of detail that helped really develop the characters. I think there were moments where the scenes could have taken a deeper dive, and instead felt rushed but the characters were clearly motivated which I really liked. Their decisions made sense in the context of their stories which is a nice change of pace for romance books!

Cam supports Nikki beautifully through the book.

My rating scale:
5⭐️ - Memorable book, would re-read, want the movie and more!
4⭐️ - Memorable book, would not re-read, want the movie/tv show.
3⭐️ - I enjoyed the book in the moment but will forget it within a few other books. Would not re-read.
2⭐️ - Forgettable, poorly written copy and paste story lines
1⭐️ - DNF

Tropes:hockey romance, he falls harder, fmc secret past
Triggers :miscarriage mentioned, abuse, domestic violence and death
Find me on the ice is book two in the nighthawks series. This one is focused on the love story between cam who is a hockey player and a bit of a playboy and Nikki who is a woman with almost no one she’s got a secret horrible past and focuses mainly on work at the coffee shop. The story opens with them meeting at fireflies and running into each other again . Very quickly they start texting/calling each other . Cameron is known for being almost like a player but after meeting Nikki he immediately is focused on just her. Faithful to her and only her even without any labels. He shows up to be with her, he moves her seats at the hockey game to have her have better seats, he’s protective of her over rivals at the game, he holds her close listens to her and doesn’t rush or push any agenda even though he wants her he wants to do things right he’s a sweetheart and is incredibly patient and supportive. Nikki is struggling with hiding the secret of her past and protecting herself but she finds comfort and peace with cam. She opens up to him in ways that she never would have with anyone else. She tests the limits with him by FaceTiming him and doing sexy truth or dares. She goes to a few of his games and gets spotted because of a picture. This leads to incredible fear and wanting to protect everyone she cares about including Cam. This book is not a cute little rom com kind of book. There’s mention of abuse, domestic violence , miscarriage and death. This book was filled with romance and spice and good moments but it definitely has hard and almost triggering and tragic real moments as well . This one made me cry but also made me swoon. Cam is definitely book boyfriend material. There were a couple minor errors, inconsistency and a couple parts felt rushed but I really liked this book even more so than the previous book and would definitely recommend it and reread.

Proof that you don't go directly from booktok. Don't buy without reading reviews yall. I got to excited from the blurb and bought it immediately. I'll tell you right now that I have DNF'd less than 4 books in my life, and this one I almost did. In theory the plot is amazing. If written well and thought out better, it could be an easy 5 stars. That being said, the writing was horrible. If the plot idea wasn't good and it didnt have some halfway decent parts it would be a 1 star book. Also fair warning to anyone planning to take this book on: this book has some very dark themes related to domestic violence and death. There's quiet a few playback scenes that are also very open door and very hard to read. I didn't see a trigger warning page in this book but I may have missed it. I just don't know. As someone who has personally dealt with DV and gotten out, reading some of those scenes made me want to delete the book and stop reading for a long time. Especially the first flashback scene. It catches you by surprise with no warning from the author whatsoever. That's also coming from someone who reads quiet a bit of dark romance and books with DV/SA themes. This author didn't put much work into making sure readers were aware of the contents of the book. I would've been fine reading those scenes if I expected it, but like I said, no warnings. This is a difficult read, both in the literary sense and the trigger sense.

Tldr: good plot idea, VERY poorly written, no trigger warnings and some very dark themes related to both platonic and romantic domestic violence.

Again there is just so much that doesn't add up. Simply frustrating. Make it make sense please 😭😭

1st of all: she's 22, yet she's been hiding for 3 years and was married before. But then in the book it said Trey was her ex-boyfriend, but at the sam time it was mentioned she was his wife and there are even mentions of a wedding band and engagement ring?

2nd of all: Cam is supposed to be a private guy, who has hook ups during which he always wears a shirt and never let's anyone touch his back. But he's so private that he goes and spills everything about Nikki to one reporter who happens to ask. He could've just said he met someone and was happy (see: private guy?). But no he decided to give away literally every information about her.
I don't get how they never discussed her being in the spotlight, considering Cam was a famous hockey player and Nikki was in hiding and never wanted to be found. There still could've been held a conversation between them about how she wants to date him, but wants to remain out of the press.

Everything was just too convenient for Trey. Since he's a cop it would be believable if he saw her picture and then tracked her down. No need for Cam to rat her out.

If you like hockey romances mixed with a bit of suspense, this is it for you, but please check out the content and trigger warnings before reading. I did, however, read this in one night and absolutely feel like it was worth still being up at 3 am.

Nikki's life has been anything short of easy the last few years, which is why she is so thankful for Chloe helping her out. (Chloe is the best friend people need, seriously). One night Chloe thinks Nikki needs to go out and experience "normal life,"... But Nikki's life is anything but. She hastily agrees and goes with the one person she can trust with her entire life. Instantly attracted to the masked guy, she can feel his life has also been anything but easy. She knows she needs to stay away for his and everyone else's safety, but she can't find herself being able to.

Cam is the best book boyfriend; his friends, Nikki and Chloe, are amazing. If you can get through the CW/TW in this book, the whole book is amazing. I skipped the first book and didn't feel like I missed out on much. This is overall a take back your power hockey romance and I am OBSESSED.

It’s a 3.5 stars book for me, I definitely enjoyed myself, but I don’t think I’ll read it again.

I love the relationship between Cam and Nikki, I thought their instant attraction for each other was cute and I’m glad that there wasn’t those typical cliche breakup 3/4 into the story. It’s nice that Cam actually stayed with Nikki the whole time.

The story was a little boring at the start and I contemplated dropping it, but I’m glad I didn’t. It got a lot better halfway through and I found myself enjoying the relationship between Cam and Nikki.

The only thing I’m kinda disappointed was was the last quarter of the book. It felt pretty rushed the moment Nikki’s ex came into the picture. Like the whole book, she was fearing about her ex and when he appeared, it just got solved within like what… 2 chapters? And the way they made him sound so scary only to die so quickly, just kinda felt disappointing. Not complaining of course, I want him dead too.

No it’s not the worst book I’ve ever read but cam was way to cringey and stereotypical hockey guy with a bad dad without any real background his whole character felt rushed and while it’s horrible he was never that affected except the shirt thing and yes it horrible and I sympathize with his childhood but it felt sooo rushed and almost like his character would’ve been better off without his trauma he never learnt anything and it very rarely came up. Nikki/Morgan on the other hand had a very detailed and well thought out background that made me so anxious towards the end and everything with try made my blood boil. To me this book could’ve bee singular pov and I almost feel like this is the one book that waive benefited from only reading her side. Reading cams pov was sweet at times but often felt rushed and Ali it like the author only wanted to have this possessive guy that fit in with the rest of the booktoks male love interests.

I don’t know why I keep putting myself through stuff like this. I finished it because I’m not a quitter but in this case I should have. Her abusive ex-boyfriend/husband/cop is tracking her all across the United States years after she faked her death and became besties with a random billionaire, because a picture of her dating a hockey player showed up online. The plot was awful, had to cringe through all the sex scenes because they would be opening up about trauma and then horny a second later, and then they have sex like 3 times while waiting for her abusive ex to show up so they can kill him? Or something idk what her plan was. And then she’s in the hospital from almost dying on a frozen pond and finally is seeing her parents for the first time in years bc they believed her fake death, and she basically kicks them out to hook up with this guy again.

It's so bad and full of like every romance book cliché ever

4.3 ⭐

I knew from the moment this was going to be Cam's books it was going to be HOT. I thoroughly enjoyed the second installment of the Nighthawks.

Please I must stress please check for any trigger warnings before you dive into this book. It speaks about DA, SA, child abuse, miscarriage, violence so please look after yourself.

Nikki or Morgan Dove is fleeing an abusive relationship, feeling vulnerable and scared for her life goes into hiding with the help of her best friend. Working in her coffee shop, lover of baking and looking after people. Just wanting some normality in her life agrees to a night out to the hottest club in Duluth for a mask themed event where things get steamy and hot with a mystery man. I tell you, this scene.. 🥵 the TENSION. Nikki/Morgan's story is so sad and my heart really broke for her.

Cam, playboy, hot shot ice hockey player who has no problem on getting a girl for a hook up, has a traumatic past. One which makes me self conscious of his own body which I think is refreshing to read about in books these days. His story is incredibly sad. Years of child abuse and a devastating family tragedy.

"My jersey, number 19, on my girl. Fucking hell, I think I am in love".

Without spoiling the story too much, the build up and friendship of these two main characters built throughout the plot was beautiful. A genuine friend's to lovers, both bonding over their trauma. The understanding, the yearning and the long distance. I just loved it all.

Blurb - Nikki is hiding from an abusive ex and meets Cam (Pro hockey player) at a masked party. They share a kiss before she runs away from the paps. They meet again in Nikki's bakery shop and start a long distance slow burn that is sweet & romantic. They both have trauma from their pasts that they share & help each other with, until Nikki's ex catches up with her.

I liked this second book much more than the first one. The main thing I didn't like was for some reason this author feels the need to show in detail the sexual exploits of her MMCs that are not with the FMC. You can show that a character was a F*boy before meeting the FMC without actually putting in the scenes, at least in this one it takes place before they meet unlike book #1. The story itself is good, but this book could really use an editor there are a lot of inconsistencies, a LOT! If you can ignore those you will enjoy it.

2 Stars because plot actually sucks, and writing sucks even more.

When Morgan tells Cam about her miscarriage, " The next day when Trey was at work, I went to the clinic and they confirmed what I already suspected. I had miscarried".

AND LITERALLY THE NEXT PAGE, it's written by Cam's POV: "I swear, if I ever get his name from her, I will find him, and I will break every single bone in his body."

BOY YOU GOT HIS NAME, SHE JUST SAID IT.

Anyways that's just one example of the bad plot and writing that exists in this book, never mind the weird time jumps and stupidity of the FMC not thinking about how a relationship with a NHL HOCKEY PLAYER could put the spotlight on her.

Would have been one star but the sheer love I have for the Princess Diaries movies and quizzing my friends after forcing them to watch it just like Morgan bumped this story up to 2 stars.

Five stars from me for this book, I’m really enjoying the Nighthawks series!

Nikki/Morgan oh how I wanted to jump into the book and hold this girl, from everything she’s been through the strength and resilience she showed was something else!
& Can we talk about her and Chloe’s relationship? BESTFUCKINGFRIEND GOALS!! 💕

Mr Cam Costello was so kind and respectful towards Morgan, he never moved past her pace, which is not what I was expecting seeing as the first time we hear from him he’s beneath the sheets 😏 yes don’t let how deep the book explores fool you as the spice is SPICY 🌶 !!

Another thing I love about hockey romance is the Found Family Trope, it’s my fav!! And I love the Nighthawks dynamic 🫶🏼

I’m excited for book number 3 🥹also our girl Chloe needs a book! Maybe she might find herself a Nighthawk too 🙊🫶🏼

🙌 No Third- Act Breakup
💕He falls harder

“Tell me you’re mine, like I’m yours.” 😭💕

The Nighthawks is quickly becoming one of my favorite hockey romance series! I read this book in a day and couldn’t put it down!

In book one when we met Cam, I wasn’t a huge fan but OH MY GOD did that opinion change. I love how hard he loves Morgan and their ability to be vulnerable with one another. Even when Cam thought her name was Nikki, he was more worried about her safety and helping her.

“I fucking love you. I don’t care about any lies you had to tell me to survive. Only that you tell me the truth from now on. I’m here, I’m yours, and I’m not going anywhere.”

I will definitely be recommending this book to anyone and everyone. It does openly talk about the abuse Cam (from parent) and Nikki/ Morgan (from ex) went through often during flashbacks so if that is something that triggers you, I’d skip this one.

I knew I was going to love Cam from book 1. Cam and "Nikki" are adorable. He's patient with her, and lets her reveal her secrets at her own pace. They both bond over the shared trauma of abuse and bodies riddled with scars. Her dove tattoo as a reminder of her true identity, and when he gets something similar for her - so meaningful. The mention of Culver's was nostalgic for me and it's one of my favorite fast food chains! The drama that unfolds with her ex is fast paced and I'm so glad that she was the one to take of the problem and take her power back. It was nice to see the old characters from book 1 make an appearance. I could have used a bit more spice.

I thought this book was great and couldn't stop reading it once I started. I loved the friends-to-lovers theme that plays out in this book, and Cam and Nikki's friendship is one of my faves. Cam is so patient, and Nikki, while holding onto her secrets, wants to let him in so badly. I didn't love how long it took her to do so, but the acceptance and love from Cam when she finally did made up for it. I enjoyed the way that their story progressed. Some parts were hard to read simply because of the nature of them, so I do recommend checking trigger warnings before going into this. It's a book that will pull emotion out of you and have you rooting for the FMC while simultaneously screaming at all she went through. All in all, it was a quick read for me and one that I would recommend again.

DNF at less then 10%. The dialogue is painfully stilted. The author mixes up what kind of pants the male main character is wearing several times in the scene where they meet. He’s also apparently an idiot because people will literally refer to her by her name, and then he thinks to himself “god, when will I find out what her name is”. Also the best friend is just way to convenient. You’re telling me this heiress to a multibillion dollar empire is living in suburbia with no security? And the main character just happens to come across her and the heiress decides to sponsor her entire life? I can see what they were trying to do here but the author needs an editor.
