Mr Darcy meets fairytales. What's not to love?

Six of your favourite JAFF authors combine to produce a volume of fairytales with a Pride and Prejudice twist. There's some magic and fantasy mixed in, as the stories used may not entirely be your idea of regular fairytales. Still, every one of them allows our favourite couple to find what is important in their lives and their love for each other.

My favourites were the more traditional Cinderella and Rapunzel, but the twists in the telling of these were certainly different. The quality of writing and sprinkling in the fairytale feel were abundant.

However, all six were enjoyable and worthy of the overall five-star rating. It was well worth the few pounds/dollars to enjoy these stories.

Lovely

A marvelous collection of Pride and Prejudice variations mixed with some classical children's stories. I couldn't name a favorite, they are all well written and captivating. I will read them again.

Darcy ever after is a collection of short stories, written by various authors.

AWAKENING by S. Neha
When Darcy meets Elizabeth for the first she is still grieving for her laite fiancé John Lucas who died a year ago in war. He is intrigued and tries everything to make her awake from her dreamlike state. But does Elizabeth even want to wake up and allow the possibility of a new love?

Poor Elizabeth, I felt with her. I loved that Darcy was able to show her a way out of her grieving and make her aware of the things around her. I love his determination and his patience and that he is willing to give her the time she needs. A beautiful story.

THE SNOW QUEEN by Laura Moretti
England is ruled by the Snow Queen and Elizabeth is, due to dramatic events in the past, on her way north, having now a heart of ice. When Darcy, due to unfortunate circumstances, fails to accompany her he goes after her, not willing to let her go again and in the hope of rescuing her. But the Snow Queen is not pleased. Will Darcy be able to rescue Elizabeth?

I really liked the dark mood and the signs of danger and foreboding in this story. And I loved Darcy's determination to not slip her through his grasp once more and to protect her, even against an almighty opponent. The story intrigued me very much.

THE MIDNIGHT DIARY by Iris Lim
When her mother dies she leaves Elizabeth only a magical diary. One day this inheritance enables her, despite the edicts of her stepmother, to partake at a masquerade where she encounters the handsome Mr Darcy in the library. But what will happen after midnight when the magic vanishes?

Elizabeth is treated badly by her vile stepmother and her two evil sisters and is deprived of her birthright and treated as a servant. Fortunately Elizabeth has magical help from her diary, and discovers another sort of magic when she encounters Darcy in the library. A very nice story.

THE DAMSEL IN THE TOWER by Riana Everly
When she is five years old Elizabeth is exchanged for an heir to Longbourn and raised by a witch in the woods. Years later Darcy unexpectedly encounters her there and they tentatively get to know each other in secret. But when he asks for her hand everything changes dramatically. Will they be able to have a future together?

This story was definitely my favourite. I like the tentative forming of a friendship that blossoms into love between Darcy and Elizabeth. And I was thrilled by the touch of drama at the end before there's a happily ever after (and not only in love issues). The story has definitely everything a good story needs to have.

THE KINGDOM OF LONGBOURN by Elin Eriksen
Young Prince Fitzwilliam of Pemberley is forced by his stepmother Queen Catherine to compete for the hand of Princess Jane of Longbourn. But instead he is challenged by her sister Princess Elizabeth. Will he succeed and gain a princess of his heart?

I really enjoy the adventures of young Prince Fitzwilliam very much. I like that he and Elizabeth are equal and that she nevertheless is not afraid of standing her ground. Plus: Queen Catherine was admitted to the dungeon, what better place to accommodate her 😉. Definitely one of my favourite stories of the collection ❤️

THE SALT OF THE EARTH by Michelle D’Arcy
The engagement of Elizabeth and Darcy causes the relationship with Elizabeth's father to suffer because he fears for her happiness. Will Elizabeth be able to mend their relationship while her family is visiting at Pemberley half a year after the wedding and show her father that she is indeed happy?

The story was cleverly constructed because we know from the beginning that something is amiss in the relationship between Elizabeth and her father, but do not know the cause and how all this came about. Let me say that Mr Bennet was more stubborn than Elizabeth normally is. But I like that Elizabeth was finally able to fix things with her father and I like the way she and Darcy accomplished this.

If you like to read six sweet stories in one book, each with a touch of fairy tale, you should definitely read this excellent collection.

I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy of the book from one of the authors and later bought my own copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Not my cuppa tea

Each of these six talented authors have chosen a different fairy tale to inspire a short story having the characters Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy, in name but not in any way having a similarity to the characters in the original P&P. I admire each of the authors, but if you're familiar with the particular fairy tale, there will be no surprises, or even anything to amuse. Although the tales are well written, I found myself getting bored, and was eager to finish the book, and not in a good way.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation.

This is a brand new anthology of fairy tales and folk tales, retold with our beloved characters. Enjoy Cinderella, The Snow Queen, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, The Norwegian Ashlad, and a twist on King Lear as you never have before. Explore magic, enchantment, romance, and more.

Awakening - inspired by Sleeping Beauty

In order to put the upsetting events of Ramsgate firmly behind him, Fitzwilliam Darcy made the decision to visit the Hertfordshire estate that his friend Charles Bingley had leased. Darcy was hoping for some peace and quiet while helping his friend navigate the complexities of estate management. He never thought he would encounter a slip of a woman in the sleepy place who would stir his senses and make him feel things he had never felt before. The only issue was that the lovely woman herself seemed to be in a deep emotional slumber. Did he have the ability to thaw her frozen heart?

The Snow Queen - inspired by the Snow Queen

In a magical, Victorian England, when Darcy meets Elizabeth in London years after his passionate declaration, Elizabeth's soul is ice, for the Snow Queen has her. Can the fire of Darcy's love save Elizabeth from eternal cold?

The Midnight Diary - inspired by Cinderella

Hidden from Meryton society by her overbearing stepmother and stepsisters, Elizabeth Bennet finds comfort from her tedious life in the pages of her late mother’s magical diary. When the diary grants her one night to attend the Netherfield Masquerade, as befitting her true station, Elizabeth is determined to experience everything she can, especially when it comes to the library, and the unexpected occupant within.

The Damsel in the Tower - inspired by Rapunzel

When a mysterious lady in a tower claims that she can never leave her castle, Darcy is as intrigued by her circumstances as by the woman herself. Intent to rescue Elizabeth, Darcy learns the truth behind an old local tragedy, but strong forces are determined to separate them forever.

The Kingdom Of Longbourn - inspired by the Norwegian Ashland

The King of Longbourn has announced that the prince who can persuade the fastidious Princess Jane to marry him will win his beautiful daughter and half of the kingdom. Prince Fitzwilliam’s wicked stepmother has forced him to seek the exacting princess’s hand. To avoid the entrapment, he must ensure he is not at his best.

The Salt of the Earth - inspired by a Romanian folktale

When a parlour discussion meant to change Mr Bennet’s sour disposition after Mr Darcy shocking application for Elizabeth’s hand turns to vinegar, will the magic of Pemberley library, the talents of her bewitching new Mistress and her own Prince Charming succeed to reestablish the harmony between Mr Bennet and his favourite daughter?

So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Darcy Ever After (anthology) (P&P fairtales)
3 - Awakening by S. Neha – supposed to be based on Sleeping Beauty, but if you don’t use magic, you can’t do much with that fairy tale; E is in a funk of sorrow after her fiance, John Lucas, died over a year ago; D is touched by her sorrow
2 - The Snow Queen by Laura Moretti – I’ve never been fond of the Snow Queen fairy tale; this one was even weirder than most Snow Queen versions
4 - The Midnight Diary by Iris Lim – a fun version of Cinderella; there is no Jane or Mary, leaving Kitty and Lydia as the snotty stepsisters; E has the diary of her dead mother and words only appear around midnight; the diary’s magic outfits her for the Netherfield Ball, she and D meet in the library and have lovely discussion, then she leaves and he is determined to find her
3 - The Damsel in the Tower by Riana Everly – instead of “let down your hair” like Rapunzel, Elizabeth Bennet is told to “let out the pier” so the witch (and later Darcy) can reach the castle after crossing the lake
3.5 - The Kingdom of Longbourn by Elin Eriksen – Prince Fitzwilliam is dragged to a neighboring kingdom by his evil step-mother (Queen Catherine D’Burgh) to compete for the hand of the princess Jane (the idea being that if he marries Jane he will have to stay in Longbourn and the Queen can rule at Pemberley); instead, the saucy second daughter, Elizabeth, catches his eye
3 - The Salt of the Earth by Michelle d’Arcy – says it is based on a Romanian folktale, also has similar plot points with King Lear, Shakespeare may have gotten his plot from Romania as well; Mr. Bennet is sure D is the wrong man for E, but doesn’t feel he can tell D “no”, instead Mr B asks each of his daughters to say how much they love him, E says she loves him as much as salt, he is offended; after E & D marry, Bennets come to Pemberley and get the tasteless, saltless dinner and all is finally understood

With any collection of reimagined fairy tales, I am wary of the Disneyfication of the folklore. However, this anthology, in which several beloved JAFF authors contribute, weaves in the treasured characters of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and is neither trite nor superficial. Despite the individual authors' differing writing styles, they unite to present creative and well-written stories. Well-known fairy tales—Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Rapunzel—mixed with more obscure ones—The Snow Queen, Love Like Salt, and a Norwegian folktale hero—create an enjoyable book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these stories and highly recommend them for those who have the time to fully immerse themselves in the magic and romance or for those seeking a quick escape.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I have pre-ordered the e-book; considering the price and the quality of the writing, it's a no-brainer.

A wonderful collection of stories! I liked them all. My favorite is The Damsel in the Tower by Riana Everly, which is inspired by the fairy tale Rapunzel. It was super romantic and I felt that it wove P&P into the fairy tale very well. My second favorite would be The Kingdom Of Longbourn by Elin Eriksen, which is inspired by the Norwegian Ashlad. It was very clever, and had an added benefit that Queen Catherine is thrown into the dungeon, and her character had just a touch of Mr. Wickham. It has inspired me to order a book of Nordic folktales from my library.

I highly recommend this book.

Enjoyable fairytale P&P anthology

This anthology brings together some wonderful authors who wrote sweet yet heartfelt stories about our favorite Pride and Prejudice couple. Each story explores different emotions and situations, but Darcy and Elizabeth's love for each other prevails! Each story is perfect in length, especially if you are short on time and just need to dip your toe into the refreshing water on a hot day. This will be a book I will gladly read again.

My favorite was “The Kingdom of Longbourn” which I found to be entertaining. The other stories did not work for me. In fact, I actively disliked all but two (Kingdom of Longbourn and Midnight Diary). This collection was a huge disappointment.

I like several of these authors, and I will continue to read their work despite my dislike of this collection.

In “The Midnight Diary.” a paralyzed Mr. Bennet visited Bingley twice (see my notes).

Read through KU. At GR, 2-stars means it was “okay.”
