London Mister #2

Resisting Mr. Kane

Rate this book
Resisting Mr. Kane is a dual-POV, stand-alone, steamy, holiday-to-office age gap romantic comedy.

A working holiday on the idyllic Greek island of Mykonos.
Making money while backpacking sounds perfect, doesn't it?

Except bartending is not my forte. I moved around the bar with the grace of a baboon, knocking over glasses and serving bad cocktails.

How could I focus on work when the sexy stranger was staring at me with those arresting blue eyes?

In my head, I have a sex life worthy of a porn channel. The reality is…different. So, of course I seized my opportunity. In Greece, I had no inhibitions.

One final summer of fun before I moved to London to start my trainee contract at London's most elite law firm.

I was too busy fluffing my CV and researching interview questions to check who was at the top of the hierarchy.

Our CEO welcomes the new trainees.
It’s not until he is halfway up the room that my blood runs cold.
It can’t be. He can’t be…
Nine million people live in London, one of them is bound to look like him.
He’s closer now.
No, it’s definitely f**king him.

He might not recognise or remember me. He’s probably had a million one-night stands since then.

Gone are the jeans and T-shirt and in their place, is an expensive tailored dark blue suit.

When those intense blue-grey eyes collide with mine, my heart stops.
Oh.
He recognises me all right.

I only read this for the first time two days ago and I’ve already re-read it once since then. So obviously…Loved it. Exactly what I was in the mood for. Thanks to my friend Leigh for leading me to it.

Tristan was delicious and he and Elly had off the charts chemistry. I’ve already gone back and read book one and loved that one too.

I’m only bummed that this author only has these two books out right now. Can’t wait for more.

This book should be titled ‘The Hot Mess and the Asshole’ or ‘I Married My Me Too’ one or the other would be a better description of this cautionary tale (I can’t in good conscience call it a romance).

The rest of this is more if a rant than a review, but this shit needs said.
This was the worst Billionaire Boss trope I’ve ever read. I loathed both of the main characters, they were not anyone I would root for. Elly was supposed to be this accomplished, smart young woman but she was a train wreck. She would make a good decision, to stay away from this problematic man, and then waffle and go back on it the second he showed her either how rich he was or how hot he was.
The hero was just an irredeemable asshole. *spoiler* he meets Elly and has a three day affair with her while on vacation with his wife and son. Even if he was starting divorce proceedings this shows a lack of character or respect for his son.
Then after she runs out on him and blocks his number he spends the next seven months screwing super models because he ‘has needs’ while she pines away for him, celibate. 🙄
Then he gets her a job at his law firm but she doesn’t know it’s his law firm, and on her first day there he sets up a professional meeting in his office, which he uses to ask her to resume their relationship. Again showing his terrible character. She’s just been hired as a junior lawyer and he basically uses his power over her to continue to see her.
Now smartly she says no and he proceeds to pursue her. She then repeatedly tells him no on several occasions but he does not listen. Finally Elly gives in to his pursuit *cough* harassment *cough* after he throws his money around while looking hot. Moral of the story...you can sexually harass someone who works for you, so long as you are rich and hot.
There are many more examples of how this guy is an asshole to Elly and then fixes his mistakes with money but they aren’t worth getting in to except to mention that near the end this ‘hero’’s actions have caused Elly so much stress that she ends up hospitalized (don’t worry, he fixes this with his money too).
Also there is a storyline with his ex wife and son that really only showed how weak he was and how few redeeming qualities other than money and looks this guy had.
I can keep going about how loathsome this man was, but suffice to say, the only real happy ending to this book would have been Elly telling him off, getting another job and marrying a good guy she meets somewhere else leaving Tristan to drink his expensive scotch in his mansion alone.
Not impressed with this story....the writing was good but just cringe worthy romance. Skip it.

I loved this ♥️
This story was so beautiful. The author told us what love does when you are in the lowest level of life. It’s amazing.
It’s worth the reading.

I enjoyed this book but when I compare it to the first it just wasn't as good. The writing was great but I just didn't hit it off with Tristan. In the first book he came across as a bit of a spoiled dandy and unfortunately in this book despite the author telling us how big and masculine he looked he still just always appeared in my head like a Mr Bingley whereas Danny Walker was always a Mr Darcy. Both fine gentleman for sure but we all know Mr Darcy is the better one.

I just couldn't throw the image of a foppish younger man with sandy blonde hair whenever he spoke when he was meant to be a strapping 6'4, dark haired accomplished lawyer in his early 40's.

There was a bit too much talk of money and his weird obsession with fine dining and if I was Elly I would have felt hugely uncomfortable too with the money.

I liked Elly but again when I compare her to Charlie she just didn't come close to being as enjoyable to read.

I do love the friendship the guys have though and laughed at their banter and ribbing. I'm hoping Jack is the next book in this series.

This book had all the making of a great story. And I really loved the heroine. I would have liked the Hero if he wasn't so freaking weak.

This is the story of Elly and Tristan who meet in Greece one summer. She's a 24yr old university graduate who's backpacking with her best friend and he's an established successful almost 40yr old irresistible man.
They have a connection neither of them can explain until one day their summer romance blows up in their faces.

Fast forward 7 months and Elly starts her new job at the most prestigious law firm in London and the owner happens to be Mr. Sexy she met in Greece and that's when the push and pull begins .

See what I mean by all the makings of a perfect story? What ruined it might you might ask? His ex-wife.

Don't get me wrong I love drama. Ex wife drama. Crazy ex drama. Secretly in love with him best friend drama. Gimme all the drama. What put me off was how this woman had Tristan by the balls. Literally. She owned him and she controlled him and he was so weak when it came to her.
I understand their circumstances but he was paying outrageous child support. She would call him up for a lot of money whenever she wanted. I excused him in the beginning because you understand why he doesn't have power in this situation but towards the end he found information out that I thought he would barter with.
He could have used it to get out from under her thumb and finally stand up to her.. but nope.. you know what he did instead? He gave her his mansion.. because she said she wanted it and wanted to live there with their son. So he moved out of his multi million dollar huge/gorgeous mansion that he loved and gave it to his ex wife because she wanted it and never used the ammunition he could've. He. Was. Weak.
And it put me off the entire book.

Even the way he spoke of their dynamic:
"I had to beg Gemina."
"I'll get on my knees and beg her if I have to."
"I know my ex wife has my neck in a noose."
And even some comment about kissing her feet if he has to while begging her.
Ew.
He never even tried to stand up to her so for that he lost me. I dislike doormat Heros way more than doormat heroines.

Maybe I'll check out the next book in the series but the "Hero" and his lack of spine ruined this book for me.

This was a good read although I did not love it as much as the Taming Mr Walker. Maybe because I didn't really love the FMC that much. She got on my nerves so many times. I did love Tristan though.

Overall, I would say the story was interesting. I was entertained throughout. The MCs had off the chart chemistry and I was left with some very important unanswered questions.

What is with all these books having douchecanoes as "heroes", and the women being spineless doormats with the ability to annoy you to death as their major personality trait? Every single character makes you want to throat-punch them and light their hair on fire.

And Tristan allowing his ex to strip and grind on him, while also considering fucking her at 86℅??? Elly worrying about her relationship and job status when Tristan's child is getting his stomach pumped in the hospital because he ingested drugs??? These are the leads we're supposed to root for? Fuck that, I'm out

Premise: english is not my native language.

The hero was an asshole who made me feel anxious and uncomfortable. First he sleeps and tries to start a relationship without telling the heroine about the WIFE and SON who are with him. Ok, he is starting to get a divorce, so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Then they meet again, and he is her boss.
He proceeds to literally stalk and harass her on her job, despite her REPEATED "no"... He TRAPS her on elavators and in his car, all on the premises that "she likes it, she is attracted to me" : he completely disregards the fact that, sexual attraction apart, she doesn't want to have a relationship with him, evinced by the fact that she is still telling him no at about 50% of the book. It was very creepy and uncomfortable. She rightfully fears for her career as a lawyer, because said relationship would ruin her professional reputation and destroy her future. He responds with an insulting NDA, offering monetary compensation if they are found out... Not only is he implying she has a price, he does it with a sum that is very cheap if you think he has absolutely nothing to lose while she has everything on the line.
It was a nightmare execution of the trope "if you insist enough, her no will turn into yes".

There are many other little things that the H says and does that I found creepy and/or condescending... DNF

Resisting Mr. Kane is book 2 in the London Mister Series. While I didn't read book 1 it read fine as a standalone, but I do plan to go back. Elly meets Tristan while working in Greece. He's gorgeous and she's so attracted to him she decides to do something completely out of character and that's to have a one-night stand. What Elly doesn't plan on is for it to continue but unfortunately her fun comes to an end and they go their separate ways. Now Elly has a new job and is shocked to see the owner of the company is her lover from Greece. Once Tristan sees Elly again, he does all he can to get her back. I loved Elly and Tristan together, their connection and chemistry was awesome. This would have definitely been a 5 star book for me but it lost a little because of the ex wife. I didn't like her and I definitely didn't like what Tristan was tempted to do. Overall, this was a really enjoyable book and Rosa Lucas is definitely an author to follow.

This book really wasn’t it. It was going to be a solid 3 star read because while I didn’t connect to the characters, there wasn’t anything inherently wrong with it. That is until the Danny saga.

I was already pissed from her being celibate during their break whilst he was sleeping around but the Danny saga really took things to a new level. I understand his reaction however I expected more groveling and pining from him because believe it or not, it felt like Elly was second choice. The author tried to make it seem like she wasn’t but the explanation really didn’t change my mind.

I was also annoyed at Elly’s constant misfortune.
Oh Tristan understands his mistake let’s make him ask (not beg) for forgiveness while Elly is literally in the hospital and down on luck. So fucking annoying.

Started out good, turned into the worst book I’ve read all year. Tristan is utterly, undeniably, undoubtedly the WORST. Just THE WORST. I hate him. Yes, HATE him. Never reading this author again.

Oh, and for those wondering, there’s OW mentioned before during and after he met the heroine. I’m not even spoiler warning here cause everyone deserves to know close to the end he sleeps with OW. And that’s not even the main reason why he sucks so fuckng much.

Resisting Mr. Kane follows in the same vein as Taming Mr. Walker, delivering a solid if predictable romance that's livened up with good erotica. Elly meets Tristan on holiday, they hook-up and through a series of unfortunate coincidences, they lose contact and end up working together months later. There's a lot of will-they, won't-they back and forth, but Elly is a stronger character than Charlie, the last books protagonist, and her perspective is far more relatable.

Similarly, the last-minute break-up rushes to a neat conclusion at the expense of the story. Tristan is going through a divorce after learning his wife had an affair and their only son isn't his. This set-up leads to a climax where Tristan's son takes pills, ostensibly from Elly's handbag (she'd confiscated Valium from her mother), and is hospitalised. My problem is how the story immediately backpedals and bends over backwards to rewrite this conflict. It turns out that, actually, the pills (that also just happen to be Valium) didn't come from Elly's handbag but were given to him by his mother, who'd set the whole thing up to have Tristan more at her mercy. . . His ex-wife's actions are almost immediately forgotten in favour of getting Tristan and Elly back together.

Personally, I kind of wish they had been Elly's pills. Not only would that have excised the ex-wife subplot that goes literally nowhere, but watching them reconcile after coming to terms with that mistake would have been more satisfying than, "Oh, it was just my crazy-bitch ex-wife," and calling it a day.

guys i was so excited for this and i was so disappointed:/ the mmc ALMOST CHEATED AND WE HAD NO CLOSURE ON HIS SON?!? HELLO? these was so many plot holes in this and everything was so surface level. Like his son was such an important character and we barely got to see him or she the mmc be a dad. The son was a little asshole and it was never like resolved. THE BIO DAD WAS BARELY MENTIONED BUT THAT IS A HUGE PLOT POINT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN EXPANDED AND THE ONLY CLOSURE WE HAD WAS “he has two dads now” but we don’t see any of it happen. LIKE IS HE AN ASSHOLE? WHAT IS THE DYNAMIC??? WHERE IS THE DRAMA. This book felt like your friend telling you a story at brunch but you get confused because she goes onto 5 tangents, you are both downing mimosas so she never telling you how anything ends up resolved. That is how i would describe this reading experience. also this is the second fmc that had tummy issues i am smelling a trend.

3⭐️

✅ billionaire romance
✅ workplace romance
✅ age gap - she’s 25 he’s 40
✅ second chance romance

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book. It wasn’t as funny or engaging.

But also for a lawyer, Tristan should have recognised his borderline sexual harassment behaviour in the workplace. She said no mate 😂😂 she doesn’t want to date you after a fling in Greece, you’re her boss and there’s too much at stake for her should it go wrong. Sensible decision from Elena. But his persistence wasn’t hot, it was beggy and creepy. When she finally gave in it felt more like because she had to versus wanting to.

I didn’t like the way he kept trying chucking money at her to solve every issue. Did he not know this girl at all? It was controlling and overbearing.

It was just ok for me but I will definitely read the last book!

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOOOOVE IT!!!

Second book in and just as good as her first. Rosa Lucus savvy wit and dead-pan writing style had me in stitches. Clear articulation of life in London and Wales makes reading a breeze, she knows how to bring a sense of realness and authenticity to her storyline. Well written with characters who are so relatable that you can't help but cheer them on to the finish line. This author has a distinct style and she's definitely one to watch. More PLEASE!

so… i wanted a book just like this one last night and it delivered. but there were too many problems🥲

I loved how he was so direct and protective towards Elly. He was perfect, but then around halfway into the book their relationship got so bland and there were literally nothing happening… also in the last chapters there were TOO MANY drama and i was so anxious lol.

Gostei imenso!

"He leans so close to my ear, for a moment I think he’s going to... “I love you, Elly. I fall a little more in love with you every day. Don’t give up on us.”

"Every morning, I wake up with you. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to this."

"You take my breath away, Elly. I’m so insanely attracted to you.."

Absolutely loved this story of Tristan and Elly. Their chemistry, love, and trials they went through together, was great to see unfold. A sweet and relaxed story.

I love travel stories and between Megan and Elena it starts out hilarious!! Tristan seems to be a good guy too.

He's not book boyfriend. He's the owner of the top law firm. It does put him in a difficult position which he doesn't care as much as Elly does. That seemed like her being very sensible, which I did like about her character.

Great read. Greece, London, Wales, and Crotia....the places we visit....

I was initially captivated by the promising beginning of this book. Both the fmc and mmc were engaging, and I had high expectations for a four-star read. However, as the plot unfolded, it took a turn for the worse. The narrative felt dragged out, and the personality transformation of the fmc was particularly jarring—from a strong and confident person to an indecisive hot mess. Unfortunately, the book fell short of its early potential.

For every one moment where the fmc had a good head on her shoulders, there were five more that made me eyeroll and despair that age gap romances are still a thing. Does anyone write them from an older woman/younger man POV? I don't know if I can do another broken billionaire patching himself together with girl glue novel.
