Everything started when Maren had a date with a guy, who left her wait and never came. Later that day, she and her friend Sasha drank a bit too much and ended up confessing her crush for a hot hockey coach. The video of her became viral and it was seen by the man she liked, Cade Hamliin.
Cade was a grumpy divorcé, who stayed single after that event. Until he saw that video of a gorgeous, mysterious woman who he instantly liked and wanted to meet. So, he did everything he could to find her and make her his girlfriend.
This short story was so much fun to read! I just loved these characters and the way they were built. It had many laughable moments but also some sensitive ones, like bullying or self struggle with her own body, in Maren's case. She didn't considered herself attractive and was very surprised when Cade did everything he could to swoon of her feet. He was very determined, protective and wanted to have that feeling of love with Maren for the rest of his life.
For me, this book had the right amount of comedy, romance and spice. Maybe it was all the action at a fast pace, but I liked it that way. There was nothing overly dramatic and it was just for my taste.

What can I say
This book is perfection!
How Ryan was able to capture how plus size women feel, was so real. I was able to relate to Maren and her insecurities. There were so many moments I cried because that’s how exactly I have felt before.
CADE THE HAMMER HAMLIN! This is one of the BEST BOOK BOYFRIENDS EVWR WRITTEN. Nothing will ever change my kind. He was absolutely perfect on how he responded to Maren and her insecurities. Where can I find one in real life?!
Ryan Marie never disappoints. Can’t wait for more from her.

I loved how he defended her when people made comments about her physique, and the best part was when he confronted her ex. He’s not the grumpy guy Maren thought; with him, she feels safe and begins to love herself more, shedding the shame she’s carried about her body. Cade not only treats her with sweetness but also has a filthy mouth, making their connection even more intense.
I loved this book. As women, we often feel pressured to fit a size 2 ideal, and Maren struggles with the same thoughts, wondering what Cade could possibly see in her. But he shows her she deserves the world. Her best friend Sasha was hilarious and supportive throughout. If you're looking for a short, spicy read, add this to your TBR!

This book was everything I needed, and everything I loved (and every woman who has ever experienced body shaming, and has confidence/image issues needs a Cade "Hammer" Hamlin). This is Book 3 in the Men of Havoc Series, and all are interconnected standalones.
Maren is our FMC, a gorgeous curvilecious woman who has been shit on by an ex, and has struggled with her body image. She is a confident woman within her job (has her own business) but struggles to speak of and see herself in a positive light (Maren could be me, there was so much I could relate too that had me in tears, but I loved it and Ryan has done this subject and this character justice). She has a "crush" on the coach of the Houston Havoc Ice Hockey Team, Cade. One night leads to her posting a video, and let's just say, there is some hilarious moments.
Cade is our MMC and he is one delicious man. He has a few years on the clock (so there is an age gap) but he is immediately attracted to Maren so is desperate to find out more about her. Let's just say we can thank some creative work of our side characters for a "meeting" of sorts.
Cade is crushing from the get go, there is not one inch of Maren's curvilicious body and her vivacious personality that he isn't attracted too, but he is also determined for her to see what he sees. There are some truly heart breaking moments, but karma is best served by our coach, who would do anything for Maren. I friggen loved it, I actually cheered and I have not stopped smiling. I could have read more of there story (this is novella length) because these two are just perfect (I want to be Maren). I am a devotee of Ryan, and another slay for me.

I absolutely LOVED every single aspect of this book!! Ryan Marie is an excellent author, she is a mastermind with impeccable wordsmith! The flow of her stories is unmatched!
And this 3rd book in the Men Of Havoc Series truly shows how she can write anything!! Even swoony MMC hockey players and a curvy FMC that is so strong and beautiful and empowering!
Cade is a grumpy bootied hockey coach and after he sees a viral video of Maren professing her love of him… he HAS to find out who she is, what her name is, how to get into contact with her…. And the way their story unfolds and the growth of their relationship - it pulled me in with a vice grip and I still am thinking about this book a month later after beta reading.
I dint want to share spoilers- but it’s a MUST READ! If you like any form of sports romance- grab this up Sept 26th!!!
I cannot recommend it enough as well as the first 2 books in this hockey collab/series!!! (2 books written by Ryan Marie and 2 books written by JHutchinson)

As a woman who struggles hard with her body image I related to much to Maren and definitely felt her pain! You had the tears coming for me with some scenes. One drunken night with her bestie and a video to the internet Maren’s crush for Cade Hamlin was public. He was determined to find out who this woman was. When they did meet it was absolutely amazing to read their relationship bloom. Cade determined to have Maren see herself the way he sees her! Absolutely loved!
I did binge this one in one sitting and absolutely recommend!

When Maren drunkenly makes a video with her best friend, stating what she would do, to get the chance to meet her all-time crush and ex hockey star Cade 'the hammer' Hamlin. She never expected it to go viral and actually get to Cade himself, not only that she never thought he would ever be interested in a curvy girl like her but she was sooo wrong.
This story gave me a different vibe from Ryan's previous work. Yes, it was amazing, and yes, it had me laughing as all her books do, and yes, it was spicy. But it also gave me the feeling that this could really inspire females who aren't so comfortable in their own bodies. I know it's just a fictional book but it really did give me feels, that no matter how you see yourself, there is someone out there for you, you just have to believe in yourself that you are enough and deserve to be loved.
The characters are so adorable. Maren is so self-conscious and has such low self-esteem, and Cade makes her realise just how perfect she is and gives her that confidence to be herself. I am also obsessed with Marens best friend, Sasha. She brings the light to Marens dark days and is hilarious.
Overall, this novella is a cute read and definitely did not disappoint. I recommend Ryan's books to any spicy romance reader!!

This story gave me a different vibe from Ryan's previous work. Yes, it was amazing, and yes, it had me laughing as all her books do, and yes, it was spicy. But it also gave me the feeling that this could really inspire females who aren't so comfortable in their own bodies. I know it's just a fictional book but it really did give me feels, that no matter how you see yourself, there is someone out there for you, you just have to believe in yourself that you are enough and deserve to be loved.
The characters are so adorable. Maren is so self-conscious and has such low self-esteem, and Cade makes her realise just how perfect she is and gives her that confidence to be herself. I am also obsessed with Marens best friend, Sasha. She brings the light to Marens dark days and is hilarious.
Overall, this novella is a cute read and definitely did not disappoint. I recommend Ryan's books to any spicy romance reader!!

Ok Ryan Marie has written some of my favorite book boyfriends, but I truthfully think Cade might be one of my top favorites. I am a HUGE age gap girly - give me an older man with graying hair, scruff, and the granulized personality of being disconnected and grumpy and I am here for it. And this is exactly what Cade is, until he sees one little video of Maren, and from that moment she was the only one he was worried about.
Maren and Cade were so perfect together, and Maren very much reminded me of myself. She was fun and such a fan girl of Cade’s and the teams and that is definitely something I can relate with. Their chemistry was off the charts from the beginning, even just the tension from the two of them being in the same arena together was so dang perfect.
I loved the confidence Cade instilled in Maren, something that all the older men in the age gaps I love have a special way of doing. He never allowed her to speak badly of herself, he always encouraged her to be herself and be free while still keeping her in her comfort zone and never pushing too hard and I absolutely ate it up.
Body Checking was just another small piece of perfection from Ryan Marie and if you take anything from this review, CHECK THIS LADY OUT! She is incredible and seriously delivers every single time.

After reading dark mafia, I absolutely appreciated this instalove. I know instalove isn't for everyone but I love them. This one had the mix of everything great.
Maren is a plus size vixen but she is so unaware. I loved that she was funny, caring and just too nice at times. Her ex is awful and after a break up, her best friend Sasha (everyone needs a Sasha in their lives) both had a drunken night and posted a video. An embarrassing video about what Maren would do just to see him. Her lifetime crush Cade 'Hammer' Hamlin is a retired player and now coach. He is grumpy, lonely and successful. When he comes across the video, he is shocked at how he feels about his dream girl.
I loved how he found her, how he never gave up on her and how he made her believe she is hot.
Maren had issues with body shaming, which was quite sad. Then it was then made perfect by her friends and her boyfriend. They have abundance of chemistry and the spice is very hot. You should read to find out why he is called the 'Hammer' and a pierced part.
I loved the team banter and the banter between all characters. But Sasha is my favourite friend, I think she is slightly unhinged and that calls to me haha. She was just so funny 🤣.
I loved the epilogue, it's my kind of ending. I hope we get more from this series. I want Sasha to have a story.

I am thoroughly convinced Ryan Marie cannot write a bad book. She just can’t do it. They just get better and better. And I eat every single one of them up!
I have been loving this series so much so I knew I was going to like this one too. But I didn’t expect to love these characters as much as I did. That’s one of the things I love about Ryan’s writing is that she has a way of writing characters you just fall in love with. And that’s what happened in this book. I loved Maren and Cade so much! Maren just had a bad breakup. So she has a fun drunken night with her best friend, Sasha. (Who needs her own book because she’s HILARIOUS!) and they make a funny video talking about Maren’s celebrity crush. A certain stud hockey coach. When Cade sees the video it’s lust at first sight. He knows he has to have her! But will Maren give him chance? Or will her insecurities get in the way?
This story is so sweet, funny and sexy! I loved everything about it. It’s a fun short read that can be read as a standalone and I can’t recommend it enough.

She softens all his rough edges while he shows her all of her beauty and gives her the power and confidence to embrace it! I love these two so freaking much! The banter, the way they build each other up, the spice and of course our fav Houston Havoc men!! A must read!

Maren is a curvy, interior designer/home renovator who was recently dumped and made a drunken video with her best friend about Maren’s love for Cade, the grumpy hockey coach of the Houston Havocs. After seeing the video, Cade becomes intrigued by her and after finding out a way to contact her, invites her to a game.

As a curvy woman myself, I loved how he defended her when people made snide comments about her physique and how she slowly begins to loving herself more, loving her body more. I am a sucker for a hockey novella and definitely when Ryan writes the story. You meet the Maren, the Curvy FMC as she is getting over a loser of a guy and decides to have a girl night with her bestie. Sasha brings over something her cousin gave her for her skin. Absolute riot to read, it takes one drunken video and turns it into laughs, instalove, and the sweetest man doing everything he can to make sure his little Swiss Miss knows she’s absolutely perfect and all his! It’s got tons of heart, some serious heat, a couple of ride or die friends, and a few more outrageous plans, that make this a brilliantly fun short read.
It’s totally outrageous, wildly fun and the characters are loveable, charming, and the kind of people you want by your side always. Cade is a great guy, I love how he goes to bat for Maren every chance he gets, encourages her, and loves her exactly as she is and more importantly is set on her loving herself. Just a great shorter read that gets you laughing, kind of makes you wish you had some moonshine, and warms the heart.

This was a super cute, steamy, loving novella. It only took me a few days to read it because I was so busy, but once I got into it, I flew right through it.
Cade is yummy book boyfriend material and the way he loved Maren was amazing! He was instantly smitten and fully embraced all of her. And eff anyone who said anything bad about her! Maren was a strong boss babe who had been hurt by assholes in the past, but she just needed the right man to show her that she was beautiful and special. Cade always made her feel that way. I absolutely love a good sports romance, and Body Checking by Ryan Marie was exactly what I needed! This book was such a cosy read.
I really loved how Ryan Marie wrote the FMC. As a curvy girl myself, I could totally relate to Maren, and it was so refreshing to see her journey of self-love. And Cade... oh, our sweet, sweet man! It was so swoony and a bit stalkerish to see how he found Maren, and helped her feel good about herself. Their chemistry was electric, but it was the emotional connection that truly stole my heart.
Overall, this book felt like a cosy, warm hug with just the right amount of spice! If you’re looking to feel all warm and fuzzy while swooning over a perfect romance, this is the book for you. Highly recommend!

Ryan Marie is just one of those authors who is an “auto buy” as well as one of my closest friends 💜 some may think I’m bias but I don’t care! She DOMINATED with this hockey series with JHutch! Cade “The Hammer” Hamlin who is the Houston Havoc coach and a MAN 😍 he blew me away. Maren Thompson just warmed my heart. A total babe and a boss babe of her own interior design company. These two together just gave me all the feels. This novella is a great read and a spicy one at that. I read it in less than 24 hours cause I was OBSESSED. It left me speechless. Let’s just say Walker can eat dirt 😅🤣 Ryan Freaking Marie I love you to pieces and thank you for trusting me with Cade and Maren. ❤️

I’m pretty sure Ryan puts cr*ck in her books, they’re just that good. Body Checking was the PERFECT novella. You have age gap, grumpy/sunshine, body positivity, hockey, etc. I mean, what else could a reader need??
As a mid-size girlie, I could relate to a lot of the feelings and emotions Ryan put into Maren. She did it in a really beautiful way that highlights that the insecurities are real, but can be eased with the right kind and loving person.
I’ve been a fan of Ryan’s since my first read, and this book was nothing short of heartwarming, funny, and panty-melting. My partner will be hearing about the Hammer for the next 17 years 😜

Look, I'm the first one to say "Novellas aren't my jam." But Ryan adds something special into hers...I don't know what it is. But they are JUST RIGHT. You get story, a little drama, swoon, spice. ALL of it in just the right doses. I've never been disappointed by a Ryan Marie story and these little hockey stories are the PERFECT palette cleansers. Daddy Cade *swoon* and Maren make an amazing couple. He is every green flag there ever was and takes care of Maren the way she's always deserved but never experienced! Seriously such a cute story!

Maren and Cade take us on a fast paced, emotional and exciting journey as they navigate through their new budding romance. They give us many hilarious moments, sweet and adorable moments, emotional and heart wrenching moments and plenty of panty melting moments too!
This was an absolutely wonderful and fun story to read. It kept me giggling, swooning and falling hopelessly in love with Maren and Cade.

Ryan. You kill me each and every time with these romances. Short or long, you know just how to move me.
If you love Grumpy x Sunshine, Plus Size FMC, Age Gap, and pro-hockey you will love this book. If you Ryan has moved you in any of her other books, you will love this. This book had medium spice, I didn't think it was over the top, but it wasn't just sweet kisses.
This book wasn't just a cheesy pro-sports romance, it also hit on the topic of body image and body shaming, as well as bullying. Everyone needs a D in their corner and I will be yours (my name even starts with D)! If we're spinning off anyone from this book, I could use a short (or full length) book of D.
10 out of 10, definitely recommend. I pledge my undying book faithfulness to Ryan Marie.

Let me start by saying that I NEED A CADE IN MY LIFE. This man is a ride-or-die for Maren. Maren is curvy, and Cade time and time again shows her just how much she deserves to be treated and loved. He sticks up for her and helps her start loving herself and her body more. I will admit that hockey romance is not a go-to for me, but I loved how we followed the coach rather than one of the players.

Marren snd Cade were everything I loved that it was curvy girl vibes because I could relate to her and all the insecurities she had about he self image. Loved how Cade showed her at every turn how beautiful she was and that he would not change her and that he wanted her like she was loved it from start to finish.

We love an older man who is not afraid to go for what he wants (also a coach.. we always love a coach). Unfortunately that translated to it seems like Cade was much more invested in their relationship than Maren was
