Meating Dalton

Rate this book
Everyone is meat.

My foster parents.

The neighbor's dog.

My biological parents who abandoned me.

I do not care that they put me up for adoption.

I care that they picked the wrong twin to keep.

So they must die.

To be filleted or not to be filleted, as Shakespeare said.

And they will be as soon as I find someone who knows where they are.

Natalia Bell, social worker extraordinaire, knows. So I take her.

But this little flower has thorns, each prick causing new feelings to sprout.

I'll have to kill her before she does something crazy, like make me fall in love with her.

And what of this Jokester twin of mine? Will he feel the sting of my blade?

Can love stall my hand from slitting Natalia's pretty little throat?

Find out on the next episode of Chef's Kiss.

A while ago, I read 'Claiming Sarah', the first book in this duet. While I had fun with it, 'Meating Dalton' was even better! The writing felt sharper, and the tempo felt more natural and balanced for a shorter book. A lot happened in a short amount of time, but none of it felt too rushed or unnecessary. I started it last night and finished the rest this morning. It was such a gripping and addictive read!

The characters, especially the male love interest Dalton, were very entertaining. While I definitely wouldn’t want to "meat" Dalton in real life (like most of those characters from dark romance books), I absolutely loved exploring his dark, chaotic mind. His twisted craziness is the kind of energy I love in books like this. As he himself admits, his "brain is fucked up", and that’s exactly what makes him so compelling. When the book ended, I felt genuinely sad because I enjoyed every twisted second of it.

If you love dark romance filled with unhinged characters and a fast, thrilling plot, 'Meating Dalton' is a must-read. I guess you could read it separately from 'Claiming Sarah', but I won't recommend doing that. Lots of previous characters make a visit, which is a lot more fun if you actually know who they are!

(edited:) The first time I read this I received an advance review copy for free (still very grateful 🥰). I just reread it on Kobo Plus 5 months later, and I still love it.

Another tour de force of psychotic behavior! Just when I thought I’d seen it all from the Lasher boys, Mae introduces us to the bone-chilling, hypnotic Dalton (a.k.a. Zachary)—and it’s a journey that doesn’t let you off the hook. Following in the blood-stained footsteps of Zaine and Zaiden/Dayton, Dalton is the latest in Mae’s line of captivating antiheroes, and he does not disappoint. The title had me raising an eyebrow at first, until it hit me: Dalton sees everyone around him as “meat.” It's more than a twisted viewpoint; it’s a philosophy he lives by—one that’s darkly fascinating and a little stomach-turning, so maybe skip this one after lunch. With his adoptive father dead, Dalton's trauma and resentment send him on a relentless quest to find his birth parents and make them pay for the agony he endured. Unlike his brother Zaiden, Dalton knows how to turn on the charm when it suits him, though his “gentle” interrogations inevitably involve his favorite weapon of choice: his knives. The chase for vengeance soon leads him to Natalia, a social worker who played a role in his adoption, and their meeting brings a deliciously disturbing twist. Natalia, unlike anyone Dalton has ever encountered, gets under his skin—and in his head—in ways he doesn’t anticipate. Usually detached and chillingly calculating, Dalton finds himself entranced by Natalia, and while his initial instinct is to end her life, her effect on him is undeniable. Bit by bit, Dalton softens, experiencing his first-ever brush with desire and even—against all odds—genuine intimacy. Natalia draws out something raw and vulnerable in him, and their connection evolves in ways that are as surprising as they are seductive. Dalton’s internal monologue is a masterful descent into a fractured psyche, offering fascinating glimpses into a complex man straddling the line between love and violence. And this time, we’re treated to Natalia’s backstory too, shedding light on why she might be the only one capable of reaching Dalton. I adored the finale, which strikes a perfect balance between redemption and bloodshed, as Dalton and Natalia find an almost poetic solution to his darker impulses. No one crafts a twisted romance like Mae, and no one writes a psycho so compelling!

I’ve really enjoyed the series so far and this was no different. I loved meeting another Lasher family member and seeing into how Dalton is. He’s just as unhinged as the others and that doesn’t stop just because he met Nat, he’s infatuated by her and his feelings and I loved every second of it. I loved how previous characters made appearances and everyone got along good, this made the continuation of the stories so much better

Mae K. Knight does it again with writing some of my favorite unhinged MMC's!

Dalton is the twin to Zaiden from Claiming Sarah, and I highly suggest to read that first to get the full experience from this book.

Dalton is equally misunderstood as his twin, but unlike his twin, he was the one given up for adoption. When he goes hunting to find his birth parents, he gets tangled up with Natalie, even before he knew she worked for the adoption organization. He had never felt obsession before her, and the only thing he could do was make her his.

I loved these two together! Each one of Knight's MMC's have a crazy obsession with the FMC's and this book was no exception. Dalton falls so hard, so fast, he quickly eliminates anything that will get in the way of him and Nat being together. He would move the universe to make her happy, and she has never been loved so fully. Both Dalton and Natalie bond over trauma, and I liked how we got to know more about Natalie's past as well instead of just Dalton's.

Sarah and Zaiden have some POV's in this book, which is why I don't think you can really understand this book without reading the first book.

I would say that the ending wrapped up a bit fast, but it is a novella, so I give it a pass.

Tropes:
☑️ Touch her and 💀 (actually just look at her, betray her, maybe see her in passing and 💀)
☑️ Multiple POV’s (first person also from Claiming Sarah)
☑️ Captor/Captive
☑️ Insta-Love (once she got over the whole kidnap situation)
☑️ Reverse Age Gap
☑️ Virgin MMC
☑️ He falls first
☑️ Found Family
☑️ Stalker
☑️ 🩸Bløød Play
☑️ Some friendly neighborhood cannibalism, but everyone has to eat right?
☑️ MINE
☑️ HEA

Read the triggers for more tropes/kinks.

This is the 2nd novella in the Daniels Duet. I would recommend reading Claiming Sarah first because they have characters in common. The storyline for Claiming Sarah would be spoiled. This novella is about Dalton and Natalia. Natalia's sister was in the 1st book, Sarah. One thing these sisters both share, other than their attraction to psychos? Both sisters are significantly older than their men. Sarah does make appearances in this novella too.

Dalton looks at every person as meat, literally. "Fucking animals is disgusting, a depraved act reserved for mindless beasts, of which I am not. At least that’s what I tell myself, but every time I see her, I question my stance." Dalton is essentially a serial killer. Dalton is on a mission to find his birth parents and punish them. That leads Dalton to Natalia because she was a social worker involved in the closed adoption. Will Dalton murder and eat Natalia just like everyone else or will she break through Dalton's black heart? What I liked about this novella? Dalton's crazy inner monolog with himself. Example: "Hello, Jason. Did you order a large pepperoni pizza with a side of chloroform with an appointment for filleting later? Yes, yes, you did. You ordered it when you touched my temptress and later flaunted your infidelity with Goldie, who’ll get her just desserts soon." No chowder, soup, or anything liquid for me after reading this 🤢. Out of all the male characters so far, Dalton is the craziest and most bizarre. It must be hereditary 🤷‍♀️. At least there were no snakes this time around.

Mae K. Knight has done it again with Meating Dalton, serving up a darkly delicious tale that’s equal parts unsettling, hilarious, and utterly addictive. If you thought her previous works pushed boundaries, this one obliterates them—and somehow makes you laugh while doing it.

Dalton, the unhinged anti-hero, is a walking masterclass in crazy. His twisted worldview, complete with culinary musings and Shakespearean one-liners (“To be filleted or not to be filleted”), is so absurd it’s brilliant. You’ll cringe, you’ll cackle, and you’ll question why you’re rooting for someone who’s essentially Gordon Ramsay meets Hannibal Lecter.

Then there’s Natalia, the ultimate thorn in Dalton’s chaotic life. She’s tough, clever, and just crazy enough to keep up with him. Their dynamic is a wild tango of sharp wit, dark humor, and tension so thick you could carve it with Dalton’s favorite knife. It’s a love story—if you squint—but one that keeps you guessing whether it’ll end in a kiss or a throat slit.

Knight’s writing is razor-sharp, her humor pitch-black, and her characters wildly unpredictable. The short format packs a punch, leaving you simultaneously satisfied and desperate for more. And let’s not ignore her uncanny ability to write “crazy” in a way that’s both terrifying and hilarious—a skill few authors can master.

If you’re into dark, twisted tales with a side of sardonic humor, Meating Dalton will knock your socks off. But fair warning: this isn’t your average romantic thriller. It’s a five-course feast of madness, served rare, and you’ll savor every bite.

Omg..........
"You read the title. You saw the blurb. You know what you’re in for, you naughty, naughty piece of meat. Mhm. Delicious, sweet meat. Will you taste as good as my flower? Well, will you? Because one of us will be dying for me to taste you."

i love all of Mae K books as they are soo good ! let me introduce you to bone, chilling hypnotic Dalton aka Zachary... This journey wont let you off the hook easy ... Blood stained footsteps of Zaine and Zaiden/Dayton, Dalton is the latest in Mae's captivating antiheros and trust me they wont disappointed you !

Dalton see everyone as meat ... It is little stomach turning but i love it! Dalton's adoptive father is dead , he has trauma and lot of resntment that has sent him on a relentless quesst to find his birth parents and make them pay for the pain that they caused him. He isnt like his brother Zaiden as Dalton knows how to turn on his charms only when its suits him ... His favourite weapon of choice is his 'gentle' interrogations with knives..

The vengance chase soon lead Dalton to Natalia who is a scoial worker that played in a role of his adoption and their meet turn into something delicous twisted turn..

Im not going to give you anymore spoilers in this book

Mae how do you make me fall in love with the misunderstood psycho every time?! Loved this novella! Usually with novellas, things feel rushed and there’s no buildup to events that just happen out of nowhere, but this is never the case with Mae’s books! The depth you get in each character🖤 the way she shows Dalton’s backstory creates so much emotion that you immediately feel connected to him even though what he does is I guess a little questionable since he’s kind of a homicidal cannibal 🤷🏻‍♀️😅 ya know it happens. Even though Natalia’s background doesn’t come in until later, seeing how she deals with every day life (unfulfilling relationship, cheating boyfriend) you relate to her the whole time and then seeing how her childhood complements Dayton’s in a way just makes it better. Mae always does gore well without being weirdly, over descriptive that can usually detract from the scene. Great read for any time, but was definitely perfect being right here at Halloween. Read this book!!

Thank you to Mae K. Knight and Booksirens for the ARC!!🖤

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Oh my God! Who would have thought that cannibalism in books could be so fascinating? Certainly not me—until I met Dalton. And what can I say? He’s not just utterly captivating but also hot as hell.

Meating Dalton is the second book in the Daniels Duet by Mae K. Knight, and it completely drew me in. Dalton, the tattooed, hot MMC, usually sees nothing but one thing in the people around him: meat. But one night, he meets the fierce Natalie in a bar—and suddenly, he has entirely different plans for her than ending up on his plate. The question is: how will he decide? Food or playmate?

The chemistry between these two is explosive, even though Natalie is a few years older than Dalton.

This book is already one of my top favorites for 2024! It’s spicy, thrilling, and even a little humorous. The author masterfully pulls me in as a reader, letting me dive deep into the world of Dalton and Natalie.

Tropes:
- Virgin, unhinged MMC
- strong FMC
- Age gap
- Murder, torture, gore, cannibalism
- Multiple POVs

“She’s beautiful. I want to carve up her face so it can’t tempt me to continue testing the softness of her lips, the texture of her tongue and the sensitivity of her neck. My first kiss from her lips still haunts me.”

YESSSS🙌 I can’t do this review justice. Hands down my favorite of the series. Dalton’s character was EVERYTHING. He’s a new fave🥵 Seeing Dalton and Natalia’s relationship develop was filled with so much suspense. I enjoyed every minute of this book and completely devoured it in one sitting.

Meating Dalton follows Dalton. He’s had a rough life being adopted by his foster parents. As he’s gotten older his rage has become completely out of control. He acts on his urges to the fullest extent possible. He’s hellbent on finding his real parents to give them what they deserve for giving him up. One night he stumbles across a woman that he can’t stop thinking about. He’s going to do everything possible to make her his even if it means killing people to get to her.

Okay… just when I thought this interconnected series couldn’t get any better??? Mae hits me with THIS!

You guys. If you want a fast paced thriller/horror series to read filled with smut and unhinged MMCs? Then this is just your jam. I absolutely loved this book. It was messed up, deliciously enticing, and full of what the heck’s!! Honestly the MMC had me cackling. The way he thinks and mentally talks to himself; very hammy from the movie over the hedge. I loved it!! I need more of Dalton, like this can’t be the end for him and Nat. I feel like there is more coming to the Daniel’s Duet and I can’t wait to see.

The interconnected series in order:

Surviving Zaine
Escaping Xavier
Claiming Sarah
Meating Dalton

More to come!

After reading the first part in this duology I was left very curious as to how the story would continue, and although it’s been a little while since I read part 1 I was still able to jump right back into the story!

This part gave a lot of background information and character development, and even tho it’s a quick read it doesn’t feel rushed at all.

I personally enjoyed the first part more because I felt like it was more unhinged , which is what I love about this genre so much!

The spice is formidable and realistic and just amazing!

Enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend!

I enjoyed this one and found the character’s interesting. I loved the way the author gave the characters this balance between them that worked and this level of understanding. Personally I wasn’t a fan of the amount of POVs we had from the other characters, as I felt it took away the focus and the story of our main characters. I love how the author has connected all her books, with the characters all having this commonality. The writing flowed smoothly and I can’t wait to check out more of this author's work.

4.25⭐️/3🌶️

Daniel is p$ycho perfection—like, seriously unhinged in the BEST way possible! 😂 Mae's MMCs always have that wild edge, but Daniel? He’s all that and more. His obsessive, unbalanced vibes were just perfect. I loved every moment with him!

And then there’s Natalie—the perfect match for someone as intense as Daniel. She’s tough, strong, and just twisted enough to keep up with his crazy. Honestly, their dynamic was fire! 🔥

The spice? So. Freaking. Hot. 🌶️ Mae absolutely knows how to turn up the heat, and the plot was just as amazing. For a short story, she manages to pack in so much depth, action, and emotions! 🙌

Loved this little foray back into Mae's twisted world! Meating Dalton is certainly not for the faint of heart; please do pay attention to the content notes…

In this book, we meet Sarah's sister, Natalia, and the aforementioned Dalton, who has a very interesting take on other people 👀

It was really fun to see the interactions of other characters in the duet, although the change in POV did throw me on occasion. Definitely a duet that should not be read out of order, and I'd even say you need to read the previous Lasher bros duet as well before venturing down this path.

All told, another great story with this author's signature style and characters

Loved it!! I absolutely love the MMCs this author creates! They are absolutely unhinged!! And the story is great too! I love the Lasher brothers and how the stories are all twisting together!

One thing I found very interesting was Dalton’s view on other people. His eating habits are more based on a mental illness if you think about it, rather than a kink or evil thing. It was actually easier to read about it knowing what’s going on in his head.

I hope there are more stories in this series!

Twins separated one left with their parents the other up for adoption and Daltons life hadnt been easy growing up in forster care, he has dark plans for those he feels believes are responsible including his twin he just has to find them and Natalia has the answers he craves but will it be something else from her he craves more than revenge? Well written dark and steamy obsessive stalker, captive, reverse age gap, older woman, a great addition to the series

Dark & Twisted is all I can say, Loved it. It was amazing to see Dalton and Nat. But not just them but the whole family, Daltons brothers and Sarah and all of them together, the whole bunch together, it was perfect. After reading Claiming Sarah I couldn't wait for this one and now that I got it I was thrilled. I enjoyed and devoured this book all in one go. All the Dark Romance lovelies, go and check this book out.

I fear that I will never be able to put down a book by Mae. This was a fantastic read; I'm obsessed with everything: Lasher, Bell, Daniels, etc. 😂 I loved the appearances by the other characters in the series, especially since I was so invested in Claiming Sarah. Mae never fails to have top-tier spice and an actively good plot in such a short story. There is always an emotional bit in her stories as to why the MCs are the way they are. This is a must-read for sure.

DALTON! That’s about all there is to say. Well I mean I am head over heels in love with these brothers. That says so much about Mae K Knight’s writing. They are fcking psychopaths and I love them. Dalton makes my dark little heart happy! These short novellas are so much fun to read and I adore reading mainly Dalton’s insanity. They are connected and getting a glimpse into all the other brother’s lives is awesome!

Amazing! Loved the story and their backgrounds. Dalton was looking for revenge and came out with so much more! This is book 2 in a duet, so its better to read Claiming Sarah first, as you'll see some of those characters as well in this one. I loved Dalton and his messed up mind, and how intense he felt for Natalia. She was equally great. This book as dark as it was it was also hilarious, i had an amazing time reading.

This book is a good mixture of insecure men and heartbreaking situations. I think interconnected standalone are so interesting to read when you’ve read the other books and you’re able to pick up little snippets of information that add to the story. Mae K. Knight has written some really good, fast paced, spicy, and exciting novellas.

Duet dark side

This is the second book in the Daniel’s Duet and you need to read the first one. It would also be good to read the Lasher Duet before this duet. This is the darkest book yet so mind the trigger warnings. The thing I love about this world is the MMCs seem un redeemable until they find the right FMC. There is also really good spice. I cannot wait for the next duet!

Morbidly delicious!

Well now I’m side eyeing myself over how quickly I devoured this read! Gory and filled with angst, I couldn’t put it down. Finished it in one sitting. Dalton is dangerously creepy who gives off sexy vibes. Am I saying the killer is book bae material? Yes! Yes I am! I enjoyed these brothers and the twist and turns of each story. Great read!

Those CW and TW need to be read before you start this one. Dalton is a pitch black guy that is out to get revenge from those he feels that have done him wrong and boy does he enjoy enacting that revenge. Until he meets Natalia. The way we get to get to dive into the mind of this MMC holy wow.
