This is the perfect book for an independent reader...maybe around age seven or eight. Its funny and teaches several valuable lessons...about being a good friend, not showing off, and being kind and open minded when making new friends.
Not great as a read aloud for a younger child though, I think that both the humor and the lessons would be misinterpreted, misunderstood, or just plain missed.

Hildy looks forward to a visit from her cousin, Winston, but when he arrives he bores her and annoys all of her friends by declaring his superior intelligence and expertise on every subject, until Moose convinces him to try something different. Part of the Moose and Hildy series.

I wasn't big on this book, but I think that young students in elementary school would enjoy reading a book of this type. It's good for teaching moral stories. This particular book teaches that you shouldn't do all of the talking, you should be a good listener as well.
