Rescued by Her Ex: A Second Chance, Amnesia, Forced Proximity Romance

Rate this book
She ran to Alaska to disappear.

He was the one man fate sent to find her.

After barely escaping her abusive ex, Quinn flees to the remote Alaskan wilderness—hoping the isolation will help her reclaim her strength. But when a head injury leaves her with no memory of how she got there, she wakes up in the last place she ever expected: in the arms of the man she left behind.

Zane never stopped loving Quinn, but he hasn’t forgiven her either. Finding her unconscious on a dangerous trail reignites all the emotions he buried three years ago. Now, a brutal snowstorm traps them together in his cabin—and the heat between them is impossible to ignore.

As Quinn’s memories slowly return, so do the walls she built to protect herself. Zane is determined to keep her safe, but his need for control clashes with her fight for independence. When past traumas resurface and fresh danger strikes, they’ll have to decide: Is love worth the risk when trusting each other could be the hardest—and bravest—thing they’ve ever done?

An emotional second-chance romance about healing after trauma, choosing vulnerability, and falling for the one who never gave up.

Rescued by Her Ex is a spicy romance novel; it is a stand-alone book. Readers will enjoy a story rich with themes of a second chance love, a reunion, forced proximity, snowbound, falling for the rescuer, amnesia, and an alpha hero that truly puts ‘hero’ in the phrase. Animal-lovers will enjoy the dogs throughout the book, too.

Heat Level - (6) - Spicy: Multiple sex scenes described in explicit detail. High levels of intimacy. High levels of sexual tension. Strong language.

This story contains no cheating and guarantees a happily-ever-after ending that is sure to satisfy. Coming September 30th, 2025 exclusively to Amazon (including Kindle Unlimited).

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I would like to read something else by this author. She clearly has a knack for telling stories, and because of that, while this one may not have been for me, I'd like to try something else of hers.

I liked this story a lot, but I did struggle to focus on it. Her description is fantastic! It paints a great picture! However, I felt like the description overpowered the actual story and that it was missing the depth I prefer.

I did know the POV before reading and while it's not my favorite I don't mind it. I did get distracted a few times trying to follow whose POV we were in as it wasn't always clear at first.

This was the first book I've read by Natasha Dubois, but it certainly won't be the last 💙

I loved the plot for this story, so I signed up as an ARC reader, and was lucky enough to be accepted.
The FMC Quinn is running from life, yet trying to find strength to save herself, whilst relying on nobody. Past traumas have her closed off and untrusting. I loved her resilience; and her struggle was beautifully written.
I am a hopeless romantic, so when the MMC Zane was introduced with his gentle, quiet, yet unwavering love, my heart grew 3 sizes! He has the purest soul, with the kindest heart, and I quietly wished he could fall out of the book and into my life 💖
Despite Quinn running at every turn, she eventually realises that love comes with no strings, no expectations, no conditions, and most of all, no fear! But could it all be too late? Wiith a stalker always watching and waiting, Quinn has to stop running, stand and fight for herself, and Zane!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars as at times I felt we were missing some information, and we had already jumped into a different day or place within the cabin. I would have also loved a little more back story regarding Max and that relationship, just as a way to create more depth to the story and Quinns feelings.

🌶🌶🌶
The spice was amazingly descriptive when the scenes did happen. I'd say 3 out of 5 at most. This book is about second chances and saving yourself, with some spice thrown in.

All in all, I enjoyed this book, and would read again. It just wasn't a "can't put down" book for me.

Quinn left Zane and his dog Ruckus heartbroken once, and after 10 years, miraculously, she ends up in Alaska's wilderness where, barely alive, she is found and rescued by loyal Ruckus and Zane. Lots of sensitivity, feelings, mental traumas (could be one for dogs), heartbreaks (poor Ruckus).Quinn repeated what was told to her like she was programmed; it seems like she needed deprogramming. While having a head trauma and partial amnesia, coffee drinking shouldn't be advised, also some specific physical activities, moreover, in front of dogs. This story is full of emotions that there's no need for spice; they simply could have hugged and cuddled. Zane gives me impression of someone who wouldn't use explicit words, thoughts, unlike what happens in the story.
In the end, in all this whirlpool of emotions, Quinn and Zane find a way to walk along each other.
Quinn met someone who loved her unconditionally and almost lost the same love the second time. In real life, some haven't experienced romantic love or other types of love. And some people choose an independent life, still caring, loving, and supporting those who need it: relatives, friends, or strangers.

To lighten the mood I read something in between. A dragged review like the story.
I've got some questions on which there were no answers in the story, like how both exes knew her whereabouts: the bad ex somehow by stalking, but how the good one knew Quinn's living conditions. Did the bad ex knew she had a boyfriend, whom later she dumped and then the bad one started stalking?.

Beautiful Second Chance Romance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5 Stars)
🌶 Spice Level: Moderate, just right

This book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It’s a beautifully written second-chance romance with just the right amount of angst, healing, and suspense.

The FMC, Quinn, has endured a traumatic past—abuse at the hands of her father and an ex-boyfriend. She’s trying to rebuild her life and find her footing. Enter Zane, the MMC and her first love from ten years ago. Their breakup left them both heartbroken, but fate brings them together again when Quinn flees a dangerous encounter and ends up in Zane’s path.

Zane is now working as a rescue EMT, and when he finds Quinn injured, he nurses her back to health. Their connection is undeniable, but the story asks the question: can Quinn work through her trauma, and can Zane love her in the way she needs?

Adding tension is Max, Quinn’s abusive ex, whose lurking presence adds a constant thread of unease. While he doesn’t dominate the story, the suspense he brings keeps the reader on edge.

I adored both main characters. Zane is the ultimate protector and steady hero, while Quinn’s resilience and courage make her a heroine worth rooting for. The romance is heartfelt, the spice is well-balanced, and the pacing makes this a perfect curl-up-with-a-blanket read.

A quick, emotional, and satisfying story—ideal for winter nights with a mug of cocoa. Highly recommend for fans of second-chance love stories with a touch of suspense and healing.

Quinn and Zane . . .

Quinn has been the victim of an abusive past from both her father's angry words and fists as well as her ex-boyfriend Max who physically abused and controlled her, and refuses to let her go. Desperate to get away from this life, she flees to Alaska, figuring that was a safe place to hide and start over. But she has an accident while out walking on a trail and hits her head. Zane, the guy she had loved years ago, is now one of the EMTs sent out on rescues. She was fortunate that he discovered her before she could freeze to death on the trail. But Quinn has no memories of what happened to her. Zane takes care of her as a snowstorm keeps them isolated at his cabin and her memories gradually return.

Will Zane be able to adjust his approach with her as she resists the controlling behaviors that she endured from Max? She has tried to tell him that she recognizes rescuing her is his job. But what she sees in his behavior is that her choice doesn’t matter, he will do what he decides is best even if she tells him to stop. She, however, needs to gain a sense of independence, gain confidence, and make her own choices. Will he understand what she needs most? And if Max comes after her, putting her in danger again, will she have Zane standing by her side to confront her cruel ex together, not over-riding her decisions but with love and trust keeping them working with each other?

Gripping romantic story - Unputdownable

This gripping romantic suspense delivers a perfect blend of danger, desire, and second chances. Fleeing an abusive ex, the heroine seeks refuge at a secluded mountain retreat, desperate to disappear and finally breathe again. But when a sudden accident leaves her injured—and without her memories—her carefully planned escape takes an unexpected turn. Enter her first love: the quiet, loyal “puppy dog” who never stopped loving her. Snowed in together at his remote cabin, he becomes her protector, her caregiver, and the steady presence she didn’t know she needed.

As fragments of the past resurface, so does an undeniable chemistry, filled with tender touches, simmering attraction, and moments that burn slow and deep. The isolation forces them to relive what once was—and confront what could be again. But safety is an illusion. Her ex is watching, stalking closer with every page, turning the romance into a race against time.

Heartfelt and intense, this story is about survival, healing, and a love strong enough to endure loss, fear, and rediscovery. Equal parts cozy, sexy, and chilling, it’s impossible to put down once the storm closes in.

Rescued by Her Ex is the story of Quinn and Zane. This is a second chance, close proximity, amnesia romance.

This was a wonderful second chance romance with lots of heart, steamy and emotional moments. Quinn runs to Alaska to escape her stalking ex and while on a hike, she falls and hits her head and has no memory of Zane or their past. Forced to ride out a brutal snowstorm together, Quinn starts to regain her memories and the turmoil of their past resurfaces and Quinn must decide to trust Zane as danger comes looking for Quinn.

This is a heartfelt second chance romance with spicy moments with the perfect balance of hope, reclaiming who you are and angst. The characters feel relatable and real and draw you into their story of healing and forgiveness. Such a lovely read and I recommend it to all romance lovers.

This is a new author to me which is always a great experience. In her latest book, we meet Quinn and Zane. A twist of fate brings these two back together after ten years.
The book is emotional and rooted in the struggles Quinn is going through with an abusive ex-boyfriend who just won’t let go. There is so much packed into the story. Quinn broke Zane’s heart but there is so much he doesn’t know and discovering her hurt in a trail in Alaska is giving them a second chance.
This is an emotional story as Quinn delves into her relationship with both her abusive ex and the man she walked away from. She’s also grappling with gaining control of her fears and the deep hurt she is reeling from.
Definitely check the trigger warnings but I do recommend this book. It’s a book with a heavy story but with a deep deep heart

This book had me so enticed. I was wrapped up in within the first few pages. Quinn is running from an ex who seems to find her at every turn. So she think Alaska will be a safe place to be. But she decides to go off in a trek by herself, falls and gets hurt. Going unconscious. Zane finds her and brings her a cabin to recover. When she awakens, she realizes she remembers Zane. Because he’s an ex. She’s also suffering from amnesia though and can’t remember why she came to Alaska.
This story was filled with twists and emotions. Forgotten memories, secrets. And of course Ruckus. You can’t get through this book without him. I loved how both Quinn and Zane came back together in the most unlikely way and found a path forward. This was such a sweet and spicy snack town, second chance romance. I can’t wait to the next book by Natasha Dubois

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I received the ARC from Hidden Gems. The book follows Quinn as she flees her ex-boyfriend/stalker by attending a survivalist retreat in Alaska. With the unexpected weather and dangerous terrain, Quinn ends up with a head injury that causes her memory loss. Yet, she ends up in the arms of a man she thought she would never see again. Zane and his hound-mix Ruckus find her in a snowstorm and take her back to his cabin to recover.
As Quinn recovers, they begin to find a way back to each other. Zane has built a life in Alaska, working in Search and Rescue with a team of dogs to help him. While at Zane’s cabin, Quinn is also healing from the trauma of her past relationships, both with her ex and her father. The author did an excellent job of conveying how Quinn felt and why she reacted to the possibility of a future with Zane.

If I could rate it higher, I would! This book was everything, EVERY.THING!

Zane and Quinn's love isn't romantic and their story isn't sweet. It's full of distrust, pain, abandonment, and confusion. All the while our beautiful Zane stands strong and steady for Quinn. Always holding a candle for her and always giving her the space she needs.

Quinn has a lot of childhood trauma and past abuse that has made her not trust people or situations (especially positive) very easily. She even walked away from the man who loved her so fiercely.

I won't say more as not to spoil it. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. And let's not forget to mention the gorgeous author, Miss Natasha, her writing is so magical. Her use of words really transforms the reader right into the scene. She's so very talented! Thank you, Natasha!

SECOND CHANCES ARE THE BEST
Zane and Quinn. And Ruckus. Shes running from her ex that seems to find her no matter where she goes. Now in Alaska on a hike alone with no beacon, against what she was told, she can only think about the man she left. The only man that she felt safe with and wonder why. After an accident that leaves her with a head injury and being found by her ex and her wondering how she got there. After the storm becomes worse she finds herself and Zane and Ruckus alone in his cabin. What happens next is full of emotions and trust lost that is found and just plain so sizzling it melts the snow. Even though they have been apart for a few years Ruckus remembers her and hes just so cuddly. Loved him. This is well written making you feel like you are there and you get lost in the story.

I really enjoyed this second-chance romance! It didn’t follow the typical “past lovers reunite” formula, which made it feel fresh and unexpected in all the right ways.

Zane completely won me over — the perfect rugged, lovable mountain man. And the dogs!

I did have some difficult moments with Quinn, especially in how she handled things in both the relationship and certain emotional situations. That said, her journey felt real, and the ups and downs added depth to the story.

Overall, this is a great, quick read for anyone who loves a good mountain romance with twists, emotional layers, and — yes — dogs!

She has come to reclaim her strength but finds so much more in the man she left behind. Zane was once in love with Quinn, but she broke his heart leaving him devastated so he left for Alaska and the wilderness. They have come full circle when one of his dogs find her hurt on a snow trail. Quinn has no memory, and the close proximity draws her and Zane together and as the memories return so does the turmoil and the fallout from her abusive ex. Circumstances has them having to work together and with-it Quinn has to decide if she can trust Zane and give over her newfound independence to his control to protect them. This second chance romance had me connecting with the two in this thrilling story.
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.

From the first lines of the book I found Quinn relatable. Her need to find herself while hiding from the world.I feel thats something that we all have struggled with from time to time. She is someone who is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Someone who feels broken because its easier to face isolation, than accept love because she is not worthy of it (due to her past relationships with family & partners)

My heart fell in love with Ruckus right away.

And Zane, what can I say about a MMC that is kind, loving, caring, sweet & strong enough to know when a woman needs space to figure things out on her own? This man had my heart from Chapter 2!

This was a great spicy second chance romance. It was about love, hurt, healing & a love that was always inevitable.

This is a new author for me and I appreciated the trigger warnings to help me prepare for this, at times, emotional read. I liked how I uncovered things as I was reading with regard to experiences, shared pasts and their feelings. I really liked that their connection and chemistry was still there despite time and shared experiences. My heart went out to them both at different times and I had everything crossed that they would be able to make it work this time. I just loved the dogs in this, they added to the story and gave another layer of relationships, love, loyalty and trust. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.

ARC reader -

I really enjoyed this book!

This second-chance romance was different to others and didn't follow the usual ex-to-lovers vibe which made it exciting and addictive while being easy to read.

I enjoyed the duel-pov moments especially during the more emotional scenes as it allowed us to experience the situations and understand the characters emotions and decision making.

The dogs - 10 out of 10 no notes 🤩

Overall, this is a great, quick read that was written very well and is easy to follow.

A heart warming and at times heart wrenching story that looks into the impact that trauma has on us.

I went into this ARC expecting a sweet romance with a dark past, but I found it had more than I was expecting. So many lines that spoke out to me - one being "her nervous system didn't know the difference between protection and possession". I felt that in my bones because of how I felt when I was finally in a safe place but didn't know how to feel in it.

A beautiful, quick read that definitely tugged on the heart strings more than once. Featuring loyal dogs, and people, acts of strength and love, it's a story that I enjoyed reading and will read again.

This was a second chance romance that I definitely enjoyed. I have read all the published books by this author but this is the first that had some suspenseful moments! I throughly enjoyed the suspense thrown in and my heart was racing at one point. Owning an Alaskan malamute myself, I enjoyed reading about the huskies and the wilderness. The spicy scenes were nice too! Especially the scene at the end of the book.

This is kind of weird to write but there was almost too much detail in this book. Sometimes I felt like I reread the same thing multiple times.

Overall, I’ll keep reading Natasha Dubious’ books because I thoroughly enjoy them! 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and 3 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

RESCUED BY HER EX is a steamy, forced-proximity, woman on the run, with amnesia, second-chance romance. Quinn has run to Alaska to get away from her abusive ex, Max. She ends up injured with amnesia. Zane is a hunky EMT, and her ex from 10 years ago. Both have feelings for each other, but Quinn doesn't remember it. She has suffered abuse from her father, and Max, so when Zane seems to be controlling, she pushes back. Can he learn to adapt to her needs? Will she remember their love? Can he keep her safe if Max comes back? This was a fast-paced, steamy read with hot chemistry and a happy ending after some angst.

Tropes:
* Second Chance
* Amnesia
* Forced Proximity

I was hooked on this story from the first page right through to the very last page. The FMC Quinn is trying to escape and prove to herself how strong she is so she goes to this retreat that is meant to help her find her strength and heal. She has an accident when she goes off on one of the walking trail. Zane finds Quinn who happens to be his EX girlfriend who he has still been in love with after all these years. Quinn is very reserved when she realizes its Zane and what they use to be. Zane remembers all of Quinn's favorite snacks and foods you could feel their chemistry coming through the pages. I am so glad they got a second chance after everything especially for Quinn definitely a book i recommend reading.

This was a good second chance romance. Quinn, who is running from her stalking ex, runs to an empowerment retreat in Alaska. While out hiking she falls and hits her head. She is laying in the snow off any path slowly freezing to death. Zane, who had his heart broken by Quinn, now living in Alaska with his rescue dogs. When one of the dogs, Ruckus, alerts and takes off to follow only to find Quinn. His protective instincts take over. He wants a second chance with Quinn, but she has a lot of insecurities. This is a very entertaining read.

ZANE AND QUINN

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

A story about a mentally and physically abused woman who doesn’t know how to accept pure love. I love the way that Zane helps Quinn and the way the author lets the reader see how abused women react to their abusers and how there is a way and means to overcome the abuse. It also shows how people use the abused women and lead them into dangerous situations. Setting the scene in Alaska makes the situations more dangerous. I loved the different personalities of the dogs.

This book is such a heartfelt, emotional romance that pulled me in from the very first page. The second-chance love story was both tender and full of tension, with just the right balance of drama and hope. The characters felt real and relatable, and I was completely invested in their journey to forgiveness and healing. The setting and its descriptions were also an added bonus! A beautiful, uplifting read that I couldn’t put down—I highly recommend it! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Years ago Quinn left Alaska leaving Zane behind. She was leaving her abusive father and her heart. Returning now to find her true self after a mental abusive ex boyfriend has left running from one place to another.
Zane finds a woman in the snow and can’t believe it is Quinn. Her memory has only allowing the past and not the last few years.
The memory of Zane tells her he is a good man. Trust is hard for her. Zane shows her he is man that will let her grow and see what true love is.
The two must stand strong against a ex stalker and the past.

I love this cover!! We have had 2 huskies and we think of them often. We are fostering a husky right now.

Zane and Quinn have a second chance of love. Will they take it this time? Or will they run? Emotional roller-coaster ride of so many emotions. Quinn does not how to trust. Zane was adorable and respectful of what Quinn has gone through.

Huskies!! They are adorable, too!!

Rescued by Her Ex by Natasha Dubois

Quinn goes to Alaska to disappear from her abusive ex. She wakes up after getting lost and having a head injury she wakes up in the last place she ever expected to, in the arms of Zane. Zane is the man she left behind in Alaska along with his dog Ruckus. Zane still has feelings for her but still hasn't forgiven her. Their story is an emotional one. It well written with strong characters.

I really loved this book. As a child, I dealt with a walking on eggshells situation. Fortunately, I was not physically harmed, but I saw my share of screaming, throwing things, punching holes in walls, etc. No one deserves this treatment!! This book goes to show that there are good men out there who don’t act like that. Loved the Zane character!!! The romance scenes were also extra spicy!! Loved them!!

Thank you Natasha for the ARC!! I absolutely loved this cute romance! It is set in a snowy landscape with Quinn lost and feeling hopeless. She is rescued by a man she has a past with and they become tangled in a tense reunion. While Quinn and Zane work through their second chance at love her traumatic past comes back to haunt her. A sweet, spicy romance with great character development and a healing story with the sweetest dogs too!
