Grip of Eternity: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller

Rate this book
In the chilling aftermath of chaos, can a fractured family find hope and unity in a world forever altered by devastation?

Patrick Dunn, a retired ex-cop haunted by his past, has faced relentless challenges since an EMP attack plunged the country into darkness. After navigating a brutal winter to escape Salem, he finds himself in Meadowview, desperately trying to protect his children and guide Holly, an escaped psychiatric patient turned fierce survivor. But as they settle into this new reality, they quickly realize that the greatest battles lie ahead.

In this new landscape, old friends and allies converge as familiar faces from the End of Days series join the fight for survival. Investigative journalist Cassandra Drews, her brave rescue dog Daisy, and troubled ex-marine Isaac Winters step into the fray, banding together with Patrick and his family. Together, they face escalating threats—hostile factions, desperate scavengers, and the ghosts of their own pasts.

Grip of Eternity culminates in a heart-stopping finale that tests the limits of love, loyalty, and the indomitable human spirit. As Patrick, Holly, Cass, and Isaac strive to forge a new existence amid the ruins, they must confront the ultimate what does it truly mean to survive?

Join Patrick, Holly, Cass, and Isaac in this electrifying conclusion to the pulse-pounding EMP survival series by bestselling author Sam J Fires. If you’re drawn to vivid characters, high-stakes action, and an unforgettable journey of resilience, Grip of Eternity is a must-read. Perfect for fans of Ryan Schow, Grace Hamilton, Kyla Stone, Harley Tate, and Jack Hunt.

Holy heck, this series took me a little over a week to read 😅 from start to finish I loved this whole journey, fighting to survive, the losses along the way, struggles to stay off the hospitals radar, to finally reaching the destination where her mother and son lived, and a town striving to fight outside threats, this kept my attention throughout.

I felt great sadness closing that last page, it was like saying goodbye to much loved family members. I hope we get new characters that make their way to this small village.

Poignant and moving, A satisfying conclusion.

Grip of Eternity is finally here, and I'm happy to tell you that it was well worth the wait! Holly's growth since book 1 is astonishing, as is the growth in cooperation between certain groups to survive. Twists, turns and real surprises are to be expected. I'm not going into more detail as I want everyone to have as enjoyable a time reading Grip of Eternity as I did. Fries went out of her way to make this a satisfying conclusion and everyone can appreciate it. 5/5 well earned stars! I can't wait to see what she conjures up next!

I should mention I had very early access as an ARC reader for Fries

Grip of Eternity: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (After the End Book 7), my thirty-eighth read from author Sam J. Fires and the concluding book in his After the End series. Another enjoyable, well-written, entertaining 187-page action & adventure read with a HEA ending, tying up the many loose ends from the series. “I was a given Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Good finale of the series. It nicely ties everything up. While I like that this series isn't a happy-go-lucky I do sometimes feel the author tries to cram as much trauma as possible in it. In this book a certain death felt kind of superfluous, as if only added to underline that not everything can go right.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy this book, but after reading both series successively it did start to feel a bit sameish to me. I think I would've liked it better if both series were released as one book each of around 400 pages.

This was a great finale. There were finally some answers and resolutions.

The pacing was very good and I couldn't stop reading.

I still love the characters. They're very relatable and they have flaws and strong opinions.

I found some parts to be emotional, especially when certain characters died.

The only thing that I found frustrating was how a particular character managed to escape. I was hoping for justice to get served.

Sam J Fires is a great writer and I really enjoy her books.

Wow, this one has it all. Action, intrigue, betrayal, alliances, deception and more. It's the last in the series and certainly wraps up the battle for Meadowview. It is also emotional at times, and you can't read it without feeling deeply involved. Well recommended. Just be sure to read the whole series in the correct order as each episode flows into the next.

A brilliant series and the grand finale didn't disappoint. The continuity throughout has been excellent. Believable characters and true to life. Grip of Eternity was filled with action from start to finish and is highly recommended, I received an ARC copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Plans of mere mortals do not always go as planned.
Pain and sorrow greets both sides.
A building confrontation, traitors and heroes come to the surface, and past issues have to be buried for the greater goal.
With surprising outcomes, good and bad, stories from the beginning of this series through to this last book knit together.
Good and fitting last story for this series

Pat, Piper, Dylan, Butler, and Holly have settled in to life in Meadowview. They have found homes and purpose there.

Trouble is brewing, though, and has been for a while. Now it is coming to a head. How will the town fare?

The answer to that question is in this fast-paced page-turner of a book.

A terrific ending

I really enjoyed this final book from the After the end series. It wrapped up all of the loose ends from the story and moved the story into the future. I really loved both the End of Days and After the End book series. The action and plot lines were gripping and kept me engaged from beginning to end.

Sam J Fires has another great book in her After the End series. I absolutely have fallen in love with the characters...the good ones, that is. The bad ones, well, they're really bad and get what they deserve, which is pretty exciting in itself. If you haven't read the other books in this series, start with the first one. And be prepared for an exciting journey.

Brilliant series!

Edge of your seat post apocalyptic thriller that grabs you by the thriat and doesn't let go! Characters that you love or hate, descriptive scenes and situations, and no fear of killing off beloved characters, even near the end! The only niggle is not knowing what happened to the two who got away.......definitely worth buying this series and her previous one.

An EMP ravages the country and everything is in darkness. How will they survive this event. Frigid weather, danger and hardly any food. Well written as always by an amazing author. From beginning to end you will be intrigued

Wonderful finale.

I loved this series. All of the books are full of action, have great characters and the story moves quickly. This finale did not disappoint. It was interesting how the author tied all the loose ends together.

A great ending to a great series. Sam J. Fires has wrapped up the series with a fine ending to the epic journey the characters have taken through the post apocalyptic landscape into the besieged town of Meadowview where it all comes together.
