It’s every teacher’s nightmare. After Gina brings her class to Central Park on a sunny autumn day, she leaves little Rachel behind. And Rachel disappears.
Losing her job and her marriage, Gina struggles to stay sane. With the help of her brother, Christopher, she plans to find out what happened to Rachel. Complicating things is the fact that Gina's fiancée, who's serving time in a state prison, was accused of killing a girl in the woods of Vermont.
The only way Gina can find peace is by learning what happened to Rachel. What really happened on that sunny day in the park, and is it already too late to find Rachel and bring her back home?
I actually enjoyed this storyline and the characters. The twist was a little obvious but what really irks me is the editing! So many (SO many) confusing commas, missing words, using the incorrect character name. Decent story but it never should have been published in this condition.
Gina can't believe it when one of her pupils goes missing during a trip to the park. Before she can think about it, she loses her job, immediately followed by the break-up of her marriage. The only thing that she can do is to do her best to find Rachel, the missing girl. The police are unhelpful, her husband announces that their marriage is over, and Gina finds herself alone with a mountain of debt. The author has created a brilliant scenario as we see Gina's life gradually disintegrating around her. With little money, estranged from her only friend and little hope of finding Rachel she is shocked when a ghost from her past, released from prison after twenty years, is found dead in Central Park, apparently a case of suicide. But, why was he in New York? Nothing adds up and eventually a phone call from Theodore's sister, insisting she has proof of her brother's innocence draws her to the town of Vermont after the sister is found dead, another case of suicide? Only when Gina heads to Vermont, do things begin to add up in her mind. As she draws closer to finding the truth about Theodore's case and makes a shocking discovery about Rachel's disappearance, we finally learn the shocking truth behind a twenty years-old murder and its connection to the disappearance of the seven years-old girl. This is a really well written and tantalising mystery which keeps the reader guessing all the way to the final chapter. Definitely worth 5 big stars from me.
