The poet ever seeks the perfect words, the ones that bring the highest score. He holds, them, ready for use, ready to build upon what has come before. Ah, this word fits here and that one fits there.
COUNTING WORDS a a poetry collection from Stephen Brooke
A bit more slender volume of poetry than we are accustomed to from Stephen Brooke, but looks are deceiving. This book is full of poems, including quite a few short-form works (senryu, etc.). Not as many illustrations are included as in some of the poet's earlier offerings and that does make a difference. But only in length, not in quality.
The concept is poems about words and language. Not all the work reflects this idea but certainly quite a lot of it. There is a nice flow from one piece to the next, in terms of the ideas in each. And, as ever, the craftsmanship is excellent. Enough so for a five star rating? Yes, but maybe just barely.
Yes, I have released yet another poetry collection. The conceit this time is that poems deal with the use of words. As a result, some pieces are fairly old ones I held back until the proper time. It also means 'Counting Words' is not quite as long as some of my recent offerings. But quality over quantity, right?
'Counting Words' is a collection of poems about, well, words. For the most part; there is a cohesive theme but the individual pieces do sometimes stray beyond it. They are quite good pieces (for the most part) and it is a quite good collection, reflecting the poet's tendency toward respecting form and, well, words!
Another excellent collection from Stephen Brooke, and with a unifying theme. I very much recommend "Counting Words." Individually, the poems are of the quality we expect from this author/poet.
