A Minor Inn-Convenience

Rate this book
Two people, one bed and breakfast, and an autumn full of memories.

When Lennon Yarrow decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of buying a bed and breakfast, she knew the fixer-upper would come with some challenges. Amid toilets that don't flush, bats in the chimney, and a disheveled wrap-around porch, her business plan might not be everything she had hoped for.

Noah Ashwood completely ruined Lennon's date last spring. In an attempt to smooth things over with her, he becomes a home renovations expert overnight--just for the chance to talk.

Lennon is all too aware that Noah doesn't do committed romantic relationships, but why does it feel like the more time they spend together--they might unintentionally be in one?

A Minor Inn-Convenience is a dual-POV, fast-paced, steamy romantic comedy featuring found family, a male lead who has sworn off relationships, and one foolish fling to get it out of their systems . . . well, maybe more than one.

I received this work as an ARC and am posting this review of my own accord.

This is certinly not my first Emmie J. Holland rodeo, and I have really enjoyed my previouos experiences with her work (BlB, PPP, DHT,, TUMoOF etc.,) Having said that, this book met all opf my expectations. Noah was such a well-developed character, and it's so refreshing to not just have a book about another white man. That barn scene tho...... *drools*

I do wish Cass and/or Giffin were in it more, but beggars can't be choosers.

DISCLAIMER: I received A Minor Inn-Convenience as an ARC. All opinions of this book are my own. (Thank you Emmie for the opportunity! I’ve never had an ARC before so this is very exciting!)

⭐⭐⭐

This book has a lot of potential and I believe that EJH is capable of becoming another big name in the romance genre. It has a cheesy concept 🧀, seasonal vibes 🍂, and romance 💌.

Since reading Bucket List Birthday, I can see that Emmie’s writing has improved a lot. While I think her ideas could use further development and the writing is still a bit clunky at times, with practice and more thorough editing I can see her writing gaining more popularity :)

That being said, I want to talk about my main issue with this book, which is Noah.

I am not Vietnamese, but I am Asian so seeing that this book featured a male Asian lead piqued my interest.

Before I go on, I AM NOT ACCUSING EMMIE J HOLLAND OF BEING RACIST. Okay? Okay.

I truly believe she wanted to handle Noah with care. She even hired a sensitivity reader (which she mentioned in her warnings before the book begins). A lot of authors wouldn’t take the time to do something like that (I just read yellowface lol) so I appreciate that she put in the effort. It shows that she respects her Asian readers.

The problem is…Noah lacks…his “Asian-ness.” Sure, Emmie says he is Vietnamese, but I would have also liked to see some elements of his culture present.

Obviously it wouldn’t be appropriate for Emmie to write about things relating to the Asian American experience, such as Noah feeling othered or struggling with his identity since he is half white and half Asian. (In case you were worried she DOES NOT do this!)

Instead, an easy way to showcase his culture is through food.

She wrote how Noah’s mom made pho for Griffin’s mom in the first book so she could have carried that over into this one.

Other options:
She could’ve had Noah make Vietnamese food with his mom or teach Lennon how to make homemade summer rolls during their hangouts (which would have been pretty cute if you ask me). I personally love sharing cultural meals with my non Asian friends so this had the potential to be a great character building moment. Their thanksgiving dinner with Noah’s family was also a great opportunity to showcase Vietnamese meals.

Overall, I do think EJH did what she felt was appropriate and I can’t fault her for that.

I was just left wanting more.

I’m still interested in reading her next book (Cass was a standout character for me in BLB) and I am excited to see how Emmie’s writing develops. 💙

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Having read Emmie J Holland before (Clan of Wolves duology, Olive Finch, Bucket List Birthday), I had very high expectations for this release. This book provided stimulating conversation with my book club (who also received ARCs. We would never pirate 🏴‍☠️ :p).

After reading this, I did find Ellis and Giffin's story more compelling. However, I am still excited for the next installment 🤠.

Those who know me well know that i rarely say this about a book- but once in a blue moon, a book comes along that perfectly fits this description. It stands alone amongst its peers.

Noah is a dark academia guy, asian and throbby vein guy. He's confused about Lennon, the angry white woman with indomitable B&B spirit, because he wants to fuck her. They are friends of Giffin and Ellis, previous sex guys from older book. Who knows what could happennnn?

This book- and I mean this earnestly, from the bottom of my heart- is ABSOLUTE BLAP!!

Thank you so much to the author for an eARC of this book to read and review!

Themes/Tropes: He's a Simp, Frenemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Professor, Parent Disapproval, Learning to Love Again

This book had me giggling and kicking my feet, I enjoyed it so much!

Lennon has bought herself a old house that she is going to turn into a bed and breakfast, Noah is the bane of her existence and he's always around.... sucks to have the same friends. When he blows up one of her dates earlier (prior to the book) in their relationship, he now feels the need to explain himself. Lennon has a thing for glasses, slacks, and sweaters, too bad she can't stand the man that wears them.

Honestly, the banter and sass in this book was fantastic. I enjoyed that it didn't go away even as their relationship changed throughout the story. I feel like that is a tad more realistic then the characters just stopping the sass.

Noah was such a sweetheart, learning on YouTube University to help Lennon, and always being available for Lennon. This is what the people want. A man who will do manual labor and work along side you to make sure your dreams come true. *Chefs Kiss*

The smut was great. The Go-Fish scene was funny. And freaking bats.

This is part of a series but they can be read as stand-alones- also the glimpse for book 3... yes please.

I honestly could not put this down, I could have easily read it in one sitting if not for life lol I devoured it and when I wasn’t reading I was thinking about these character and missing them.

This story gave me all the feels… from butterflies and giddy laughter to making my insides gooey. These two and their chemistry ohhhhh MY GOODNESS 🔥 WOAH!! Noah has sworn off relationships and love since his ex broke his heart years ago, so when Lennon comes along, he finds himself unable to stay away from her. He starts helping her around the Inn just to have a chance to talk to her… but it can never go further than “friends” but what if there is no stopping their chemistry… will one time together get whatever this insane pull to each other is out of their systems?? Well what do you think?? LOL What a fun time watching these two try and fight their feelings for each and navigate the fear they have, all while getting closer.

“What is your plan here, Lennon? Are you going to sleep with him?
“Maybe.”
“It won’t be good.”
“And how do you know?”
“That guy… He’s not going to know how to handle you.”

Your parents are horrible and always compare you to your older sister who’s a doctor. All of your friends are happily coupled up and it makes you equal parts happy and sick. You just bought a house to renovate into a bed and breakfast and it’s a LOT of work you can’t DIY. Your friends’ fiancé’s best friend is way too hot for his own good. And irritates you. And has beautiful forearms. And is kind of funny. And looks sooooo good in glasses. And helps you fix stuff. Wait, why did you hate him again??

If I could give this 1,000,000 stars I totally would. A little over 24 hours and I devoured this book. But I love all of her booms. They are all perfect.

Lennon was a hoot. I laughed so much reading this books. Her comments are amazing. I actually highlighted so much!

Noah man he can be an idiot. Doesn’t fully think and can be stupid. But he also melted my heart.

"A Minor Inn-Convenience" by Emmie J. Holland is a delightful and engaging romantic comedy that delivers on its promise of witty banter, steamy encounters, and heartwarming moments. The book successfully blends the "frenemies to lovers" trope with the charming setting of a fixer-upper bed and breakfast, creating a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Lennon and Noah are compelling characters with distinct personalities and relatable flaws. Lennon, the determined inn owner, and Noah, the charming professor, have a history of playful antagonism that quickly evolves into undeniable chemistry. Their banter is sharp, witty, and consistently entertaining, keeping the reader engaged throughout the story.

The "forced proximity" trope, stemming from Noah's efforts to help Lennon renovate her inn, is effectively used to build tension and develop their relationship. The author skillfully portrays the push and pull of their attraction, balancing the humor with moments of genuine emotional connection.

The setting of the bed and breakfast adds a cozy and charming backdrop to the story. The descriptions of the renovation challenges and the various predicaments Lennon and Noah find themselves in are both humorous and engaging. The interconnected standalone nature of the series allows readers to enjoy this book without having read the previous one, but the glimpses of past and future characters add to the overall enjoyment.

The book's emotional depth is also noteworthy. While the humor and banter are prominent, the author also tackles themes of past hurts, learning to love again, and the importance of communication. The characters' journey towards overcoming their emotional baggage and finding love is portrayed with sensitivity and authenticity.

Rating: 3.75/5 stars. The book delivers a well-executed romantic comedy with engaging characters, witty banter, and steamy encounters. The charming setting and the emotional depth of the story make it a thoroughly enjoyable read.

My Rating System:
1⭐️: The book didn’t hold my interest and/or had significant issues that overshadowed any redeeming qualities for me, but generally not my cup of tea. Most likely did not finish the book.
2⭐️: The book didn’t quite resonate with me, and while my experience wasn’t remarkable, I did finish it. It had some redeeming qualities and potential but fell short in execution. Recommendable, though with some reservations.
3⭐️: Good read, but didn’t quite stand out. Still worth recommending to others.
4⭐️: Really enjoyed it and stayed engaged throughout. Would read book again. Definitely recommendable.
5⭐️: Incredible writing that made me deeply connect with the characters. I was completely absorbed in the world and didn’t want it to end. This book stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I'd gladly reread it and highly recommend it to everyone!.

Lennon Yarrow buys a fixer-upper that she plans to turn into a bed & breakfast. Something she has been wanting to do forever! She is in a bit over her head though with all the work that needs to be done. Noah Ashwood has been trying so hard to get a chance to talk with Lennon after he ruined a date of hers (for good reason, but still) last spring. She doesn't want anything to do with him. So he decides he will become a home renovations expert to give him an excuse to talk to her. Noah doesn't do committed relationships, but as they spend more and more time together there is definitely attraction and they decide to have one fling to get it out of their systems...and then another...until the true feelings definitely start to creep up.

This book was so fun!! I loved the whole premise of Lennon fulfilling her dream of buying an inn and fixing it up. And the various predicaments they get into as they are fixing it up was quite comical! Their enemies-to-lovers relationship and the renovating together leads to excellent banter! The characters were great, too. I don't usually love when characters have "sworn off love", but Noah was so sweet and even though he said that, he clearly cared so much for Lennon. Talk about acts of service love language!! Add in the side characters and there was a nice found family, too. This is the second book in an interconnected stand-alone series. If you are looking for maximum seasonal vibes, I highly recommend reading the first book A Bucket List Birthday this spring/summer and then diving into this one for the fall, and then you'll be all ready for Cass & Wes's story "A Bittersweet Summer" coming out spring 2026!

Thank you Emmie J. Holland for an opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I will say, that i think for me a 3.5ish rating is going to be an average rating for a romance book that i enjoyed and was entertained with, but that i also don't have any strong feelings about or connection to. i got this book on a stuff your kindle day, so it was free, and i did enjoy it.

we follow our FMC Lennon who has recently bought a rundown home to turn it into a bed and breakfast. our MMC is Griffin, someone who will likely be in Lennons life for a while, as their bestfriends are in a relationship. However, Lennon cannot stand Griffin, because earlier that year, he ruins a date that she is on, and she has no clue why. Griffin finally decides to try to talk to Lennon and explain himself but she refuses to hear him out unless he does something for her in turn such as fix a toilet, help with repairs etc. When these two are forced into proximity while working on Lennon's bed and breakfast rebuild the get to know each other more, and thats where this book takes off.

I will say, several hours after finishing this book, i was thinking about what i would rate it and i did forget nearly everything about this book and its characters. however, once i remembered, i did feel a sense of appreciation and enjoyment from this story. i will say one of my favorite books of all time has a FMC named Lemon, so i often caught myself reading the wrong name. this book was very enjoyable and i would recommend if you have a couple hours to kill. i enjoyed the way that the text conversations were incorporated. a couple lines did make me laugh such as:

'We are all in this alone. I don't care what Zac Efron says.' -p31

I really enjoyed this book. It definitely lived up to the expectations I had for it, because I absolutely adored A Bucket List Birthday. It was great to see Ellis and Griffin again and dive deeper into Lennon and Noah as characters. They were both complex characters that messed up, but that's one of my favorite things about this book. Lennon and Noah may have miscommunication issues and hurt each other, but they are realistic. No one is going to do everything right in a relationship, but the important thing to do afterwards is apologize and work it out like Lennon and Noah did. I admired Lennon a lot for her bluntness and honesty, and I enjoyed her character more than I thought I would. I've read books where an honest, bold female lead is just plain rude, but thankfully, Lennon was not. She was fiercely loyal to her friends and said what was on her mind, and she ended up being one of my favorite female leads I've read about this year. Noah was such a fun character to read about. Even when Lennon was defensive and a tad harsh with him, he still helped her and stayed by her side. He had zero experience, yet he still helped her remodel parts of her bed and breakfast. I loved seeing how their dynamic developed into an official relationship, and the tension between the two was so well-crafted. Also, the funny lines sprinkled throughout the story were by far the best part about this book. Emmie J. Holland does such a good job at coming up with the funniest, wittiest remarks I've ever read. Overall, I had a great time reading this book!.

Lennon and Noah . . .

Lennon Yarrow has always wanted to own a bed & breakfast, so she purchases a fixer-upper to renovate into her dream job. Thinking she is ready for the challenges ahead in completing that dream, she finally realizes she will actually need some help. Noah Ashwood, referred to as her “best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend”, had messed up a date she was on and has been trying to talk to her about it, but she avoids him. So his next best plan is to pretend to have home renovation skills, even though it’s more “learn-as-you-go” with some internet lessons mixed in. Although Noah doesn’t want any sort of relationship commitment, the attraction that grows between them could not be ignored. An attempt at a single fling to get their minds off of each other didn’t turn out that way, so they continued “practicing”. Will they finally admit their real feelings for each other? Or will they break off their new relationship when her father cruelly criticizes everything about her at the dinner table to make Noah leave… which worked pretty well when she angrily blames Noah for trying to defend her (while her family did nothing to stop the belittling) and argues until he finally walks out?

Lots of fun banter and fun characters pull the reader into their story and keep us further involved when it suddenly takes a turn for the worse and the people we care about are getting hurt. Is there still a HEA waiting for them? Grab your copy and see if they can figure it out!

A Minor Inn-convenience by Emmie J. Holland is a dual-POV, fast-paced, steamy romantic comedy filled with found family vibes, witty banter, and one fling that was only supposed to happen once . . . until it doesn’t.

This story is cozy, emotional, and heartwarming all at once—the perfect fall read that deserves a spot on everyone’s autumn TBR. 🍂

Noah and Lennon are sort of enemies to lovers, but really they’re two people who let a past miscommunication bury what could have been an incredible friendship—and maybe something more 👀. Their banter crackles with tension, slowly giving way to chemistry that neither of them can keep under wraps.

Noah’s past has left him wary of relationships, while Lennon’s long streak of bad dates (and an even longer dry spell) has her convinced love just isn’t in the cards. Add in the complication that Noah’s best friend is dating Lennon’s best friend, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for messy, swoony fun.

This book will warm you up, make you laugh, and keep you company while you enjoy the crisp fall air.

Tropes you’ll find inside:
• Dual POV
• Small town charm
• Past relationship trauma
• Enemies-to-lovers (ish)
• Found family
• Miscommunication
• Best friends dating each other’s best friend

This is one heck of a ‘go away closer’ story. Twenty-six year old Lennon has bought an old house that she plans to turn into a bed and breakfast. Thirty-two year old Noah is an English professor who is Lennon’s “best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend.” She is furious at him for disrupting a date that she was on, and he has been desperately trying to explain his actions. She finally agrees to hear what he has to say if he promises to fix her broken toilet….and that’s the beginning of a rather confusing and unconventional relationship. This story has expressive and explosive dialogue, familial discord, ex issues, steamy interludes and a mountain of insecurities. Lennon and Noah work on defining that which is between them while physically fixing up the bed and breakfast. The push/pull between them leaps off the page as does their sizzling attraction. The characters are well defined and believable, and their friendships are solid and supportive. Although this story is a bit of a see-saw ride, it will grab and hold your interest, stir your emotions and entertain you. Most enjoyable!.

::Taps mic so hard it hurts:: YEAH HI. If you want a book that over achieves at both rom and com, this is the one. It’s funny. The banter is searing and sexy and funny. I laughed—no, guffawed—multiple times while reading PER CHAPTER. But make no mistake- it’s not just a fluffy feel good romance. It packs a serious punch. Emmie is not afraid to delve into trauma and give you depth. She wrote boldly, never shying away from who these characters truly are—even when they aren’t perfect. Characters, like people, can’t be perfect, and Lennon and Noah feel so viscerally real as penned by Emmie.

Am I biased because I read early and love Emmie’s work? No. Maybe. But no, I’m simply a fan. A big one. ADD THIS BOOK TO YOUR TBR.

-Cozy cozy vibes
-Home Reno
-My favorite black cat girlie with daddy issues…
-…but he’s low key a black cat too, yet also a golden retriever for her no I cannot explain because it’d be a spoiler
-Hot professor but he’s not HER professor and she’s not even in college it’s not like that ok
-Anyway, hot professor, like I said

Lennon is doing everything she can to live out her dream of not just running but owning her own Bed and Breakfast. Noah is just doing his best to avoid wanting something he decided to give up after he suffered a betrayal in the past. With a lot of not communicating, their actions speak louder than their words. Noah continuously offers to help Lennon renovate her house and she continues to seek his help. What could possibly happen when these two supposed enemies continue to share space and quality time?.

It was my first book of the Author and I am happy that I had it. The Author's writing style is refreshing. The same could be said about characters - loved them - well developed and interesting.
I was fully engaged in their story - dynamic, steamy and fascinating, especially because Noah's was sworn himself off relationships and their undeniable attraction. It was funny read - hard to put it down while not finished.
Loved their dynamics with their friends and families and, of course, their way to each other. Enjoyed it!.

No thank you

I read the first book where Noah was introduced so I was aware of his playboy ways. What I wasn’t prepared for was having to read about him sleeping with multiple women in the first few chapters. I get he had a life before Lennon and that’s whatever (not my cup of tea but I would have powered through) but when I’m reading a romance I don’t want to read about the main characters sleeping with other people as part of the story. Now there isn’t any detail to it but he does talk about how attracted to these other women he is.

Now I quit reading less than 20% so take this review how you want but I wish I had known the MMC was going to be sleeping around during this book. I never would have started it to begin with. So for anyone else who may not like that in a romance book just know it happens at least twice.

This is book 2 in Holland's Oaklawn Coffee and can easily be read as a standalone. Main characters are Lennon and Noah and their journey to happiness should not be missed.

I'm conflicted about my rating, because even though I liked the idea overall, the book gave me a headache. I don't like the characters, they had no growth and development. Zero communication through out the book and even at the end. Ending conflict was not great and in my opinion it was not sorted out, they did not communicate fully about it at the end.
