MEET DETECTIVES BODINE AND FULLER IN THE FIRST OF A BRILLIANT NEW CRIME SERIES FROM A #1 BESTELLING AUTHOR.

Florence Winslow wakes up in hospital. The nurse tells her she’s killed a man.

She can’t remember what happened. All she knows is that she was driving down a deserted country road at night when a car hurtled out of nowhere and ploughed into her. She’s lucky to be alive. The other driver was killed on impact.

Dylan Bodine, an ambitious young detective in the Torrington police department, thinks Florence was extremely lucky. Too lucky perhaps.

Something about the accident doesn’t add up.

There are too many unanswered questions. The dead driver was carrying no ID — why? There are no skid marks on the road. And what was Florence doing there in the first place? She tells the police she was visiting her in-laws, but why was she suddenly invited after so many years of estrangement?

As Dylan and his new partner, former FBI investigator Carrie Fuller, dig deeper, they discover that Florence isn’t just anyone. Her father-in-law is one of the wealthiest men in America.

He’s also dying. And with his vast fortune at stake, things are a lot murkier than they seem. At least one member of this over-privileged family is hiding a dangerous secret . . . and will go to any lengths to keep that secret hidden.

DISCOVER A BREATHTAKING NEW SERIES OF CRIME MYSTERIES THAT YOU WON’T WANT TO PUT DOWN.

MEET THE DETECTIVES
Detective Dylan Bodine is newly-promoted, clever, ambitious — and too good-looking for his own good. His tricky relationship with his artist girlfriend Evie looks like it’s on the rocks. This is his first case and he’s determined to prove himself — but he’s prone to making mistakes. He needs the experience and expertise of his new partner, Detective Sergeant Carrie Fuller, to rein him in.

Detective Carrie Fuller is about to turn fifty-five, and looking forward to retirement. This is her last case — and the last thing she needs (or wants) is to mentor a cocky young rookie detective. Blessed with a sharp tongue, a dry wit and a world-weary wisdom, she doesn’t suffer fools gladly — as Dylan is about to find out.

Although the two detectives don’t get off to a great start, early tensions give way to a unique personal chemistry as their very different styles of detection begin to bear fruit.

THE SETTING
The wilds of north-west Connecticut is a land that time forgot. The Litchfield Hills (also known as the Northwest Hills) are a thickly-forested paradise threaded with rivers and scattered with historic towns and remote farmlands. This is ancient New England, uncluttered, unchanged, a place where Nature at her finest still holds sway. It’s also where some of the wealthiest families in America choose to make their home.

This is one of the best police procedurals I’ve read in a while! There are many characters. So much so that I had to do a search on my kindle to remind me of who some of them were. But I think it adds to the storyline. I loved the interactions between the two main detectives. Their easy banter with each other was very entertaining. I think one of the main reasons I felt this book topped other police procedurals were the actions of the detectives. We read about their journeys to track down all of the leads. The author has a great eye for details! He is also very well read. I very much enjoyed this book!

This is my first Mark Mills book, but I can safely say this won't be my last!

Impact is a police procedural set in the American state of Connecticut. The story follows investigators Detective Carrie Fuller and Dylan Bodine as they try to unravel what happened to Florence Winslow. Was her car crash an accident, or was it something more sinister?

During the investigation, they find out that Florence's father-in-law is Lyndon Winslow, an extremely wealthy man who is on his deathbed. She's set to inherit a lot of money, pulling Bodine and Fuller into a world of money and greed, hoping to keep Florence safe.

I loved the short, sharp chapters in this novel, along with some great action scenes, I had a hard time putting it down.

I loved the detectives. Dylan is newly promoted and eager to prove himself, whereas Carrie is about to retire and has seen a lot over her career, but still maintains a sharp wit and eye for detail. Together they made a great pairing, playing off each to solve the case.

There were several points of view through the story, including Florence, Dylan, Lyndon Winslow and the nameless culprit. I'm not usually a fan of too many POVs, but this story pulls it off well.

I had the mastermind behind the attempt on Florence's life quite early on, but there were plenty of suspects and misdirection to make me doubt myself.

Impact is a compelling story that had me gripped from beginning to end. I have my fingers crossed that I'll see more books featuring Bodine and Fuller in the future!

Thanks to Netgalley I was able to listen to the audiobook. Not everyone feels that money is the answer to happiness, some prefer love!Could an estranged family plot the murder of one of their own. If so, who; if not, who?

A new author for me and a really good police procedural/thriller that kept me page turning so I read in a day. Set in Connecticut New England, an area full of some of the wealthiest people in America. Well written with a great plot line and some great characters: Carrie is just brilliant and the chemistry between her, Bodine and Florence is just wonderful. The wealthy family are a real mix of personalities, not sure who was the worst.

Briefly, on her way to visit her late husband’s dying father Florence Winslow is involved in a fatal road traffic accident. A very wealthy man it soon becomes clear that his fortune is at the root of the case. Newly partnered veteran Detective Carrie Fuller and rookie Dylan Bodine are working the case, and it’s obvious to them that something isn’t right.

A great ‘who done it’ with hitmen, chases and a number of potential suspects this was a really good, fast paced thriller. With a satisfying conclusion I’m hoping to see more of this partnership ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If there’s one thing that I like doing, it’s discovering new authors. Mark Mills is certainly a new author for me. I read the synopsis for ‘Impact’ and it certainly sounded like just my kind of read- a fast paced crime novel. Well it was certainly all that and more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Impact’ but more about that in a bit.
As soon as I started reading ‘Impact’, I knew that I was reading something special and that I would be unable to put the book to one side for any length of time. I must be psychic because that’s exactly what happened. I had picked the book up only intending to read a couple of chapters but I became so wrapped up in the story that I was still sat there well over an hour and several chapters later. Part of the appeal for me was the fact that the lead male character stood out from the crowd. He was like a dog with a bone in that when he investigates something he doesn’t rest until he reaches a conclusion. The characters and the storylines intrigued me. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen and so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down another path entirely. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. I found ‘Impact’ to be an absolute page turner of a read, which certainly kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat.
‘Impact’ is well written. I love the author’s writing style, which is so easy to get used to and easy to get along with. He certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a read. The story is written using two timelines- one describes things as they happened a few years previously and the other timeline focuses on events as they happen in the present day. The timelines interlink well and the story flows seamlessly as a result. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. Reading ‘Impact’ felt like being on an at times rather scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board. I love the way in which the author makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Impact’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Mark’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Lyndon Winslow, patriarch of an extremely rich family is dying. He calls all his family home even Florence who is the widow of his favorite son. They have been estranged and he wants to reconcile before he goes. On her way to the estate, Florence is hit head on by another car. It's a miracle she isn't killed and the other driver is.

The police investigate and they decide that it wasn't an accident; someone was trying to kill Florence. The detectives assigned to the case are a strange partnership. Dylan has just been promoted to detective while Carrie is about to retire. It will be Dylan's first case and Carrie's last.

It turns out that there are several candidates who might have wanted Florence dead. Her father had made enemies in Africa who killed him and threatened his family. Then there are the Winslows. Lyndon has just changed his will and included Florence in a big way, even putting her in charge of his trust. That doesn't sit well with the rest of the family. Can Carrie and Dylan discover who is coming for Florence before they manage to kill her?

Mark Mills is a British author whose earlier novels both won acclaim. In this one, he is deft at creating characters who seem real while also having their own issues. Dylan for one is about to come to the end of a long term relationship and balancing that with a job that he isn't sure he will be good at. Carrie is a former FBI investigator and has personal problems as well. The building of their relationship is interesting to watch as is Dylan's growing comfort with his job. I listened to this book and the narrator did a great job, being unobtrusive yet moving the story along. There are plenty of twists and turns and I'll look forward to more Mark Mills mysteries. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of Impact, a stand-alone featuring rookie detective Dylan Bodine and his partner Carrie Fuller of the Torrington, Connecticut PD.

Florence Winslow is rescued from a late night car crash, the man in the other car isn’t so lucky. Dylan is called out to analyse the scene and finds enough anomalies to suggest that the unidentified man was trying to kill Florence. He gets promoted to detective and asked to help Carrie investigate who and why.

I thoroughly enjoyed Impact, which is a high octane read with a convoluted murder plot and enough humour to keep the reader turning the pages.

It turns out that Florence isn’t just any young woman, but the estranged daughter-in-law of Lyndon Winslow, one of the richest men in the country and one who is on his deathbed. Money and greed are always good motives in a murder mystery and in this one the author has taken them and put his own twist on them, making the whole family and some hangers-on suspects to Carrie and Dylan. Florence has her own suspect and that’s a doozy.

Carrie and Dylan decide to use the “back door method” to solve the case, so rather than confront their suspects they start with trying to identify the unnamed, dead assassin and his contacts. It takes them all over the north east and a lot of intelligent deduction, not to mention gunfights and mayhem, before arriving at a conclusion. It never stops and it’s fun. What more could a reader ask for?

They are a great double act. Dylan on his first case and Carrie on her last before retirement. They work well together and have great banter so it’s a joy to spend time with them. I for one would like to see more of them.

Impact is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This book was an fast, action paced crime mystery. It's the first of the new series and I really did like the short chapters. However, I didn't quite relate to this one. I'd definitely be curious to read the next book in the series to see what more the author has to bring to the table. Some parts also felt pretty disconnected. I am definitely in the minority of not liking this one as much as others. I probably may read the next book in the series but we'll see.

Florence wakes up in hospital after a car accident, although she cannot remember what happened Florence is told that a man in the other car was killed and died at the scene. When detective Dylan Bodine turns up at the scene and looks at all the different factors surrounding the accident he is convinced that something else is going on and to him all things seem to coincidental to be simply an accident.

For starter the car that hit Florence had been stolen, the dead man had nothing on him including no form of ID and with no evidence of either car having tried to break before impact Dylan suspects that someone maybe out to kill Florence.

As Dylan’s investigation progresses he comes to learn that Florence is set to inherit a huge sum of money from her father in law. In confidence he has recently changed his will however his confidence has been broken and now his whole family have learnt that Florence is set to inherit some of his money. Money they don’t think she deserves.

What I liked about this crime thriller is that it’s unlike any I’ve read before. I love the fact it portrays that money can make people do crazy and stupid things. It was a very cleverly written book that had plenty of mystery involved. All I would say is make sure you’re able to really concentrate when you’re reading this book as there’s a fair amount going on and you could easily get lost.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.

All she remembers is that she was driving down a deserted country road in northern Connecticut late at night on her way to visit her in-laws. A car hurtled out of nowhere and plowed into her. She’s lucky to be alive. The other driver was killed on impact. The dead man had no ID and was driving a stolen vehicle. Piecing together the evidence, Dylan concludes someone wanted Florence dead.

PHEW this book. Every time you think you have this book figured out there’s a new twist. I have notes written down
• “a hit man?”
• “The kids?”
• “Ethical Investments”?
• “SO MANY LAYERS”!

So, Florence wakes up in the hospital she’s utterly confused. From there the people and the pace of the book don’t stop. There are so many people there are so many settings and places.

There’s a lot I liked about this book, the twists and turns. The surprises you didn’t see coming. Every time I knew who person X was NOPE.

Things I didn’t like: The reason for the hit. After all that build up it seemed a bit of a letdown. Dylan’s Girlfriend. She seemed like an unnecessary character and an unnecessary part of the story. But that’s a personal preference.

Thank you Netgalley, Mark Mills, and Dreamscape Media for this chance to review this audiobook

I haven’t come across Mark Mills before however, I cannot wait to read more of his novels after reading Impact.
Florence is in a car accident that leaves her battered and bruised and the other driver dead but when Dylan Bodine is called to investigate – something doesn’t fit quite right. Dylan is promoted and teamed up with Carrie Fuller who is on the verge of retirement in order to solve the case, which isn’t as simple as it first seems.
I loved the investigative aspect and how they used evidence form the crash to piece some things together – identifying little things that most people wouldn’t think of. I enjoyed the use of deduction to and working through the suspects (and there are quite a few). I found it fun to try and keep up with the investigation and make my own deductions too – so many untrustworthy characters and so many red herrings to watch out for.
The use of multiple points of view worked really well as it kept things a little more tense and continuously added potential clues and information into the mix. Every time I felt as though I was onto something, the direction changed or something new came to light.
I enjoyed how Dylan and Carrie worked together and both brought their own skills to the investigation.
A fast-paced and thrilling detective novel. Really recommended.

I really enjoyed this book from Mark Mills. It's a good mystery and I loved listening to the detectives working together to unravel the whole thing. I had a little bit of confusion at the very beginning because a lot of characters were introduced and I hadn't solidified who was who yet and what the relationships were. Of course, this could be just me and I may have been distracted a bit while listening to the audiobook.

The main characters, Bodine and Fuller, were very well developed and I liked the way they worked together. Their relationship was built very nicely and by the end, I could really picture them as a great detective team. The story was basically about getting an inheritance and the family involved. But there were a lot of nice nuances along the way that made this story special. I hadn't looked at the preview information about this book and I thought this standalone would make a good series. And now that I look at the preview blurb after listening to it, I see it will be a series. That makes me happy and I will look forward to Bodine and Fuller's further adventures.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Florence wakes up in a hospital after having a car accident that killed a man. She can't remember what happened,e xcept taht another care came out of nowhere to crash into hers. Dylan is a young detective who thinks Florence was perhaps too lucky. Something about this crash doesn't add up. With his partner, Carrie, ex-FBI agent, he digs deep in Florence's story and discovers that her father is one of the wealthiest man in America, and that he is dying...
This fast paced, action-packed crime mystery proposes super short chapters that will keep you reaching for "just one more" and enough suspects to keep you guessing. It's the first book in a new crime series. I read this as an audio book, in one sitting. Although I am a big fan of fast paced story, I couldn't quite relate to this one. I'd definitely be curious to read the next book in the series to see what more the author has to bring to the table.

Dylan Bodine, a police officer who handles accident reconstruction, is called to the scene of a two-car accident with fatality. He soon realizes that this was not an accident. The deceased driver of the one car had no identification, phone or license and was driving a stolen car. He meant to kill Florence Winslow who was in the other car, but why? She was injured, but alive; is the threat still out there? Assigned to the investigation is Detective Carrie Fuller, former FBI, sarcastic, forthright and not afraid to offend someone to solve a case. She will be retiring soon and has nothing to lose, but would like one final win. As she investigates, she asks to have Dylan as her assistant and as he is dealing with some personal issues, he welcomes the assignment. The interaction between the two is an integral and entertaining addition to this mystery as they delve into the Winslow family who seem to have many secrets to hide. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

This was my first book by this author and after reading the blurb I was not sure what I was getting myself into. Florence wakes up in the hospital after being in a car accident and finds out she was hit by another car and that driver was not as lucky and died on impact. She is devastated. Dylan Bodie is called to scene to investigate and along with his partner Carrie Fuller they begin to piece together an intriguing tale of greed and dysfunctional family. Florence is the widow of the estranged son of one of the wealthiest men in the world who is on his deathbed. He has changed his will and called for Florence to visit him. Is this what set in motion her car accident? Racing through the countryside of New England to find answers this one kept me listening and not wanting to put it down. Twists and turns kept me guessing.

This was a new author for me, but I’m definitely interested in reading more books by Mark Mills. I followed him on Goodreads and I see that he has several other books that look amazing!
In the opening of the book we meet Florence Winslow as she’s being rescued from a terrible accident. The other driver was killed and she fears she was at fault. But as the police investigate they suspect it was no accident and the other driver was actually trying to kill her. They learn that the killer could be linked to Florence’s father’s past or it could be linked to her husbands family. Florence was about to inherit a great deal of money from her husbands family. The book follows the investigation and the family drama as they solve this case.
I loved the narration on this one. The narrator read with the perfect amount of drama in her voice and did a great job of changing her voice to distinguish between each character. Once you start listening to this book, you won’t be able to stop

Florence has been in an car accident. But, the more the police learn, the more they realize this is not a normal accident. The driver of the other car had no ID. The deeper the detectives dig the more dangerous this case becomes.

This story revolves around family and money! As you can guess, Lyndon is loaded! And he controls the purse strings. So, when he changes his will, it changes all the family dynamics. And this puts Florence in the cross hairs.

This story is intense and intriguing. Nothing like someone in the family losing billions to an in law to make murder come into play. But, the question is…which family member is responsible…you will need to read this to find out.

Nan McNamara narrated this novel. She did a great job with the intensity and all the voices.

Need a good family drama…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

I have to confess that Mark Mills is one of my favourite authors, so I was delighted to find this to read last month. And even more pleased to discover that It’s Book 1 of a new series.

A young woman wakes up in hospital to be told that she’s killed a man in a car crash. The only thing she remembers is driving late at night in Connecticut, on her way to visit her terminally ill father-in-law. The police become involved not just because it was a fatal crash but because the dead man had no ID and was driving a stolen vehicle. Detectives Dylan Bodine and Carrie Fuller then discover that the father-in-law is one of the wealthiest men in America and there’s certainly more to the crash than meets the eye. As with all Mark Mills' books this is beautifully written, with a really clever plot and a massive plot twist at the end. I really did find it hard to put down and I'm looking forward to seeing the series develop.

have enjoyed the previous books I have read by this author and, although this book is very different from those, it was very good. A combination of a mystery police procedural with a bit of a thriller aspect to it. Very hard to put down.
My only complaint was with the budding romance between the detective and the main female character. This is not a spoiler, it is telegraphed very early on. It just didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story and started way too early. There was nothing graphic or extreme about it but it just didn’t seem to fit. Otherwise I loved it.
Also it was hilarious that Florence was afraid of the cows. Mostly because there is a cozy series that I read with a Main character named Florence who is also terrified of cows.
Very good audiobook and excellent narrator.

I absolutely loved this book. It begins with a car accident which results in the death of 1 driver and the hospitalisation of Florence, the other driver. It soon becomes clear that this was a deliberate attempt on Florence's life. Enter Dylan Bodine, accident investigator, who determines that this was deliberate, and is then promoted to acting detective and partnered with Carrie in order to carry out the investigation.

The story flowed wonderfully for me. It was non-stop, lots of witty dialogue and I was hooked from the start. I ended up reading this in just over a day. I loved the characters of Dylan and especially Carrie. They were the total opposite to the horrible Winslow family and it was great to have people to root for and people to despise.

I hope that this becomes a series but if not, then this was a terrific standalone book and I will look out for more by this author.

This was a taut murder mystery. This is not a series so while I was sure the heroine was going to survive, there was the possibility that she might not. I did guess early on who the insider was but not the why. Although I did live in Massachusettes for a couple of years, I had to stop and think the positions of all those little tiny states as detectives went from state to state to state. I was surprised that one of the murderers was caught but cheered that the evil-doer did not escape punishment. The sad thing is that none of the libraries I have access to, even through interlibrary loan, carry any of Mark Mills' books. I would be interested in reading Amagansett, but not interested enough to buy it. I'm trying to buy as few books as possible since I don't have that many years ahead of me and I already have too many (if that's possible) books.

What a great book. I tend to prefer British police procedurals but liked the blurb for this so decided to give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed.
Florence is injured in an accident whilst travelling to see her estranged father-in-law and has little recognition of the accident.
Dylan Bodine is an accident investigator who is working the case and he eventually joins forces with Carrie Fuller, the detective assigned to investigate the accident.
There’s plenty of suspects with both the estranged family and Florence’s own family history coming under the spotlight.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking for more by this author and especially if Bodine and Fuller have more cases to investigate together.
Thank you to Joffe’s Books for an ARC of this book.

The book starts with a horrific car crash involving two vehicles, in which a male driver is killed. As Florence, the survivor of the second vehicle, wakes up in hospital, a local detective, Dylan Bodie, is tasked with investigating the circumstances of the collision. So many things fail to add up as Dylan discovers that Florence is the estranged daughter in law of one of the richest men in America. I really liked the the setting of Connecticut and the characterisation although the pace was a bit slow at times and I felt the plot became a bit disconnected. I enjoyed the read and my thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

IMPACT opens in the midst of a terrifying situation which turns out to have insidious, sinister origins. Harrowing tension is all pervasive as the pages fly by. Riveting chapters are filled with an ominous foreboding. Suspense skyrockets with an action packed race against time and continues into circumstances later ramping up for another thrilling sprint against the clock leading to a dynamite explosive finish you'll never see coming.

The author does a good job of pulling together so many tried true elements of mysteries: character awakens in hospital, police procedures/relationships, families, and more. Weaving together the parts into a unique tapestry of an entertaining story is not an easy task, but it’s pulled off successfully. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.

I received an ARC of this book from Joffe Books in return for an honest review.

First of all I really the like the pairing of Bodine and Fuller. Their knowledge, experience and skills complement each other well and together they make a formidable team. I enjoyed the storyline and didn’t manage to guess who did it. This book is well worth a read and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Men trying to write as women is a difficult thing. Even more so when it is a white male writing as a Black female. No. Just no. You do so much injustice to the real life issues and struggles that face Black womxn and reduce the Black experience as whole. What is the purpose of this? If it is truly to bring more representation to the book world of Black females, then have a Black female author.
