I made it to 67% before calling it quits. Now, I'm not expert and I do my best not to leave negative reviews but it's a little hard to believe this was written by a best-selling author.
Everything about this book was unremarkable —from the plot to the characters. Serena, the lead, came across as someone with a little too much authority at work and too little personal life. And don't even get me started on their cause; I found it really hard to care about anything that they were apparently risking their lives for.
Honestly, I don't know how this book manages to be the start of a series because it really is uninspiring (sorry author!)
ATF Agent Serena Knox is a driven agent racing against time to solve the case of plastic firearms. Gangs stage a hit on one of their own who was giving information to the police. Unfortunately the hit men’s car blows up when the gun barrel melts. One of the shooters bailed and used his own gun to kill the target. It’s a slow process tacking the path of the illegal guns back to find the creator and the lone surviving hitter. Serena unfortunately is having flashbacks and her partner has noticed and reminds her she can tell him anything. Fast paced action driven thriller.
A good read but it finished making me feel like it was unfinished.
I really enjoyed reading this however the end has left me slightly deflated. I don’t know if the second book leads on directly from this. If it does then that would make more sense. However it left me wondering what happened to the main boss and did the shooter give state evidence to bring the main boss down. There are way to many questions left unanswered for me
Rapid paced story with a plot that has a beginning Bing and ending. My on!y criticisms are related to the use of unnecessary hyperbolic adjectives, and the constant references to job titles. A tight knit ATF team would surely be on a first name basis, and subordinates would likely call the lead agent boss. It sounded too formal.for the situation . Minor Issues, but annoying.
I'm not really impressed with this book. The author needs to find one way ATF officer's titles should be used, not using all these lead investigator, Agent Knox, Knox, or Serena. There was no rhyme or reason to how she chose the names to be used.
I didn't really see any character development, which caused me to not really care about the characters.
There's no way a partner would allow their partner to continue in the field with the PTSD flashbacks Serena was experiencing.
Excellent read. From beginning to end I couldn't put it down ..page turner I'm very much a crime thriller reader of well known authors Karen slaughter. James Paterson but I will now be adding Molly black to my list ..
Boring. I found myself continually wandering and needed to force myself to pay attention. Even the way the others referred to the main character was incredibly annoying. No title, no name, they'd simply call say something like, "Yes, Lead Investigator. We'll follow you."
Only a short read but packed a punch. Likable characters, I found myself rooting for one of the 'bad guys' so the action packed ending was quite tense. Well written and very entertaining.
I love a strong female law enforcement characters. This book is a wonderful start to a new adventure with this series. I downloaded book two and I am excited to get hooked on it.
I found some of the behaviour of the ATF agents pretty questionable. They forced their way into places without warrants and claimed they were in the right. Serena needs lots of psychological treatment for her PTSD and is a danger to the team.
I have read Molly Black books that were awesome. This one however was ok and I finished it but was a struggle. For me it was a little tedious to read. I do want to read the rest of the series though.
Once again, Molly Black delivers! A great, fast-paced thriller that keeps you wanting to stay up to finish! I have always been a fan of mysteries and Ms Black never fails to deliver. Forget the simpering, scared women of the past, kick-ass females are what equality is all about!
