We’re Not Going Anywhere: A Western Adventure

Rate this book
The second book in a brand new Western adventure series from Dave P. Fisher!

Long on rock, short on water, is how Nolan Callahan and his party found the land they had inherited. The bare-stone Dragoons rose to their left, hot and formidable to the eye. On the flip side of the coin, the valley was rich in tall grass, oaks, and other trees, even the Dragoons were dotted with pine and juniper. It was a land that would quickly weed out the weak, but for men, it held great potential. They met Bronco Rojas, the chief foreman for Don Felipe Zamora, who helped them scout the property and arrange a meeting with Felipe, and his eldest son, Xavier.

In short order they learned that Thaddeus Seabrooke had not exaggerated the challenges they faced. Emiliano Zamora had taken over their property to hold his stolen cattle. He was served his eviction notice with the bodies of his banditos who tried threatening the wrong men. Fights with Apaches, a bad meeting with carpetbaggers, and an alliance formed with Don Felipe, all came before the month was out. The Callahan party had come to stay, and stay they would. As Nolan told the government’s official carpetbagger when he told them they had to get out, “We’re not going anywhere.”

I have been a writer of adventure novels of the Old West. I have now branched out to writing contemporary crime novels with a suspense/mystery base. What I feel makes these unique is that they are set in the modern West and Alaska, as opposed to exotic world and big city settings. They involve average people and local law enforcement agencies.

My writing influence comes from my ancestral roots. Mountain men, voyageurs, pioneers, and explorers make up the branches of my family tree. My paternal grandfather was Blackfoot Indian from Montana. My maternal grandfather was a Minnesota lumberjack, both men were born in the 1800’s.

As a lifelong outdoorsman I have inherited that pioneer blood and followed in the footsteps of both my families. I have experienced life in the Alaska bush, as well as the wilderness of the Rocky and Cascade Mountains, as a working cowboy, guide, horsepacker, hunter, and trapper.
I also spent several years as a Colorado Deputy Sheriff. This experience in the law enforcement field allows me an intimate insight to the system that I weave into my new crime genre stories.
I incorporate all of my experiences into my stories to ingrain them with authenticity and draw the reader into the story by their realism and a personal knowledge of the people and lifestyle involved.

I have near to 500 fiction and non-fiction works published. Included are: 19 novels and short story collections, 70 short stories, and inclusion in 18 anthologies. I am the first 3 time winner of the Will Rogers Medallion Award, in 2008 for Best Western Fiction, and again in 2013 for Best Western Humor, and 2014 for Best Western Novel. Nine of my short stories have earned Reader’s Choice Awards.

AN ENTICING WESTERN ADVENTURE FOR A TRUE WESTERN FICTION ACTION THRILLER LOVER

12/17/25 Review:
☆☆☆☆☆

We’re Not Going Anywhere: A Western Adventure (The Dragoon Cattle Company Book 2) by Dave P. Fisher is a well-written tale that is very appealing for any of you that enjoy a great western story that has it all. There's action, suspense, heroes that defines the term for a hero, a group of people that are determined not to be bullied by thugs out to take what they can from those that are weaker, gunfighters, Indians (both good and bad), and of course you have horses and cattle which leads to cow rustlers and illegal land grabbers and corrupt politicians and town businessman.

The main characters, Nolah, Billy, and Levi Callahan (brothers) along with their partners in their newly acquired ranch, Tom, Mateo, Carlos, and Venacio are not only determined to build a new life outside of Tucson, Arizona in the foothills of the Dragoon Mountains, they are determined not to back down from those who want to take their land from them as well as protect their neighbors from the same fate.

This second book deals more with building their ranch, obtaining needed supplies, and learning the business of ranching and living in a new environment than what they were used to in Arkansas. Oh yeah, and how to blow things up. That being said, there is still plenty of action, adventure, and saving the day as only a tough group of western heroes can do.

If you like a great western, I highly recommend this second book in this series though I would also recommend that you read them in order just so you'll know what leads to each of the new events that the author brings to the pages. I know I truly have enjoyed this book and hope you will also find yourself enjoying it too.

There will be blood

This book (2) is the continuation of book one and is as exciting as book one and makes you look forward for a book 3 if there is one. The book contains plenty of action as Nolan and his friends had to fight indians, outlaws, crooked government agents, and land grabbers known as carpet baggers. To survive they had to be. Loyal to each other, brave, able to shoot straight and fearless.

Excellent series

This is an exception story about starting a cattle empire the right way not stealing it from other's hard work. The characters are just what is called for, standing up for their rights and the rights of others. Loyal to each other and for their allies which they make along the way. I look forward to the next!!!

Southern stubborn vs. Carpet baggers....

Enjoyable read of Civil War veterans holding onto their land against greed filled carpet baggers. The friends developed, and the struggles with Apache warriors keep things interesting.

During the waning days of the Civil War, just before General Lee's surrender, Major Jason Wells found himself caught in a brutal cross fire. A single bullet pierced through the chaos, forever altering his fate as Sergeant Nathan Callahan tried valiantly to get him to an area to be taken care of. Unfortunately, Wells knew he wouldn't make it and gave Callahan some land he had purchased in Arizona. The descriptive narrative of the troubles Callahan experienced and the areas he traveled through on his way to Arizona, make this book very hard to put down.

A Great Read In Many Ways!

One of my biggest hobbies is reading. My two favorite genres are Westerns and Science Fiction. This is the first Western book I've read involving bits regarding our Civil War that doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm sure you will enjoy reading it also.

A family goes west to recover a promise from a soldier

Great start to a western set in Arizona after the Civil War. Mexicans and Native American men struggle to build a new home in AZ after leaving strive-torn AK at the end of the Civil War. Five soldiers joined together to show family bond strengthened in the war made them stronger together.
