Golden Blood: A Vampire Story

Rate this book
In 1540, conquistador Balthazar Jiménez de Quesada embarks on a quest for gold but encounters an ancient evil in the jungles of Colombia, La Pastola, transforming him into an immortal vampire. Centuries later, as Napoleon's army clashes with the British in 1815, a brutal massacre near Walloon births a new vampire desperate to break her curse. In present-day Los Angeles, a man with the rarest blood type—Golden Blood—enters a dangerous world where the line between predator and prey blurs, as a secret society of vampires hunts for the key to their salvation…or their destruction.

Golden Blood is a gripping tale of horror, history, and the eternal struggle for redemption, spanning from the New World's blood-soaked jungles to the underbelly of modern L.A.

Golden Blood is the story about one vampire's search for Golden Blood that can reverse the vampiric curse and her need for revenge against the vampire that slaughtered her family and turned her into a vampire centuries before. Set in the jungles of Colombia in the 1500s, the Caribbean in the 1700s, Europe in the 1800s and 1900s, and present-day Los Angeles, Golden Blood is a dark, bleak, and gothic story.

Praise for Golden A Vampire Story

"Golden Blood offers a haunting and thought-provoking experience that contrasts with standard vampire stories. Its somber, gothic style and a plot that covers centuries and continents make it a distinctive and impressive member of the not-so-little undead family."

The gorgeous, eye catching cover is only the beginning of the deliciousness of Golden Blood: A Vampire Story by Tim Vee. I grab any vampire books that come my way and Golden Blood is a fresh take of a familiar tale. It’s pretty hard to come up with a new slant, seeing there are thousands of books out there. Good job ,Tim.

Balthazar Jiménez de Quesada’s greed has him transformed into a vampire, one of the most grotesque I have ever come across. He’s definitely not sparkly. He turns the wrong person when he slaughtered Yvette’s family and left her for dead. She plots her revenge.

She devotes her vampiric life to finding Golden Blood, the rarest type of blood. It can break the vampire curse, turning her back into a human. There are some bloods that can give a vampire the human feeling for a short period of time, but she wants Golden Blood. So does Balthazar, after he gets his first taste. He wants to kill her and take over her ‘company’.

I love what Tim Vee has done with Golden Blood. I would not change anything. These are not your Twilight vampires. Tim has some of the most vivid descriptions and I can see the flies buzzing, skin sloughing off…

We have a bit of a history lesson with our horror and I was all in. The more I read, the more engrossed I was in the story. I would have read it in one sitting, if I could have, but I did read until the wee hours of the morning.

Golden Blood is a vampire book and I LOVE vampire books in general:) So of course I wanted to read this one folks. The story starts out in chapter 1, in Spain and sailing on a ship with a character named Balthazar. Balthazar was a 30 year old mortal man at one point in 1540, but then he is changed into a vampire. Balthazar is not a nice vampire, he eats people till they are dead from loss of blood. That is something intriguing to me as in most vampire books the MC is always trying to attone for their lives and what they did to human beings. One night there is an attack on a family farm in the 1800's and a woman named Yvette is changed into a vampire. There are some spicy parts to this book so be warned this is not a book for young readers. Yvette seems to have turned also into a feelingless monster like Bathazar, our other MC, in the beginning of the book. Then the story picks up in modern day.
The writing is engaging for a vampire story and I liked it a lot as I was reading. Yvette has the perfect job in modern day, L.A. And is adjusting to her vampire life very well. I quite enjoyed her modern job as a vampire and living nowadays, it fit perfectly. Balthazar is still around and kicking his life as a vampire also. Balthazar has no idea that Yvette exists and neither does she know that he does either, until one day Balthazar hears about her. I really liked that plot point as I was wondering what would happen if the two were ever to meet. And what an interesting meeting that was! Read the book if any of this review sounds interesting to y'all:) Be warned there are scenes with gore, blood gore, sexual situations, and more in this book, if you have triggers!

I have read many vampire stories, but none quite like Golden Blood. Every vampire story is unique in its own way, but Golden Blood stands apart from any other vampire story I have read before. I love the fresh take on vampires and how they navigate their lives, considering they are actually dead, right?

The world-building in this one is incredibly unique and brilliantly executed in many ways. The descriptions are so vividly written that I had no trouble picturing what was happening in my mind, as if I were there witnessing it all. The descriptions definitely paint a well-disturbed image.

I appreciate that Golden Blood provides us with the history of the vampires and how they originated. I enjoyed seeing how the vampires evolved and became increasingly aware of their circumstances. I liked watching how they developed new ways to obtain their blood as the world around them changed and grew.

What a fascinating vampire tale that is sure to grab your attention from the first page and hold onto it until the last page is read; even then, I don’t think it will let go for a long time.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Golden Blood and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good vampire story! Grab a copy of Golden Blood today!

Enthralling and tragic tale of two vampires.

Golden Blood: A Vampire Story by Tim Vee is an enthralling tale of two vampires, both inadvertently created under tragic circumstances, as they maintain their existences down through the centuries. In 1540, Balthazar Jiménez de Quesada is a conquistador searching for the golden city of El Dorado in the wilds of South America when the mythical vampire being, La Patasola, attacks him. Almost 300 years pass, and on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, he attacks and kills the family of simple farmwife Yvette Janssens, leaving her for dead and unwittingly causing her to transition into a vampire like himself. Fast forward to present-day Los Angeles, where the transient lifestyle of many of the population offers the vampires easy picking of anonymous, off-the-grid victims who are less likely to be missed by someone. But while one is the accidental product of the other, they go about their processes of getting victims in very different ways, and they are about to cross paths one more time.

The plot is fast-paced, and the story is riveting as centuries quickly pass. In this author’s world, vampires are neither romantic figures nor sparkly creatures but horrific feeding machines lacking all human sensibilities. The only exception comes when they have imbibed a rare blood type, which briefly allows their human memories and senses to return. Their stories are engrossing as Balthazar strives to maintain a steady stream of victims he drains to their death with the help of an army of blood slaves, and Yvette devises a clever plan that has blood donors coming to her. Vee’s story is creative and imaginative and one I had a hard time setting aside. While the book could benefit from another editorial sweep for typos and continuity issues, the story is so compelling that while I noticed these, I had to keep reading.

I recommend GOLDEN BLOOD to readers of vampire horror stories.

Golden Blood: A Vampire Story by Tim Vee is a gripping, gothic horror novel that weaves together centuries of bloodshed, vengeance, and the desperate search for redemption.

From the gold-crazed conquistadors of 16th-century Colombia to the murky underbelly of today's Los Angeles, the story follows a vampire who tries to break her curse by locating the much sought-after "Golden Blood," a mythical blood type said to hold the secret to reversing vampirism.

The historical fiction horror novel masterfully combines two genres, leading its readers down bloody paths and dark dungeons through secret vampire societies, all the while exploring the big, weighty theme of what it means to live forever. Revenge, the predator-prey dynamic, and the unbearable lightness of being undead become this thrilling dark fantasy's emotional and thematic backbone.

Golden Blood offers a haunting and thought-provoking experience that contrasts with standard vampire stories. Its somber, gothic style and a plot that covers centuries and continents make it a distinctive and impressive member of the not-so-little undead family.

Dark, a bit bloody, with high tension and vivid descriptions, you won’t soon forget this tale of horror that span centuries and continents. Opening with the Spanish arriving in South America, then bringing the reader on a winding journey where a series of events leads to more vampires and thralls being created, we’re eventually led to the modern world and the west coast of the US. Vee does an amazing job transporting the reader through each time period, and the descriptions can get a bit vivid, and might not be for everyone. Yvette is an amazing, determined FMC. She may have lost her humanity, but her quest for revenge and determination to get that humanity back is admirable. Balthazar, on the other hand, will absolutely make your skin crawl. His outer appearance after being turned into a vampire reflects his inside quite well. If you enjoy dark, gritty horror, then you’ll want to grab this.

This was an interesting tale. The world building was different than I am used to. The story started in the early 1500's and ended in the current century. Balthazar became a vampire, grew to be very grotesque, and vicious. Yvette was trying to find a way to return to human form. There was some science with regards to blood types and rarity within this book. Plenty of action, moments of horror, and even humanity. The ending had been foreshadowed but still left you wondering.

I received a copy through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

this is not a romance but I gave 2 purrs heat because there is some rare and talk of it. )
I generally love a vampire book but this one just didn't do it for me.
It felt like mostly history starting way back in the past goin to present. There's lots of description of time and areas that I felt added nothing to the story.
At about 50 percent the plot picked up through a twist and got better.
There are several twists one really got me because I thought it was just one of the 2 groups but added another twist I won't say what.
The end was surprising but I really liked it.

The cover drew me in, but not representative of the book. I had a hard time getting into it with the time jumps, but it got so much better, the more I read. Very original, I liked this story.
