One farm. Dozens of victims. A killer who hid in plain sight.

Through meticulous research and gripping narrative storytelling, this book reconstructs the rise of a female serial killer who exploited trust, manipulated suitors, and used marriage advertisements as deadly bait.

I found this book to be dry and repetitive in almost every paragraph of each section. It could have included more information on her children. It read like a text book instead of a historical true crime book. It was more interesting than her previous work but still boring.

I really like true crime stories. I grew up listening to Paul Harvey’s The Rest of the Story, watching Unsolved Mysteries, and The Forensic Files. I envisioned the book would go along those lines. It starts off well. It is clear the author did excellent research into the crimes for Belle Gunness, a notorious serial killer. I found the insight into the killer’s psychological profile interesting. However, the book quickly became repetitive and drawn out.
