He hates her for some reason. She will not rest until she changes his mind.
People always like Samantha Vine. It's kind of her thing. All the employees at her tech startup think she's the best boss, and the community partners and investors she woos not only trust, but adore her.
Everyone likes her, except him.
Sam may have been caught off guard when she accidentally insulted science teacher AJ Trachtenberg, but she's pulling out all the stops trying to make it up to him…and it’s not working. Offering his students a swanky field trip doesn't win him over—it only seems to make him grumpier.
Unfortunately, grumpy looks very good on him. AJ is tall, dark, and annoyingly handsome and he’s got a giant chip on his shoulder. Honestly, his smoldering is distracting.
Sam can’t afford any distractions right now, not with the media hounding her as she tries to take her company public. Maybe she can swing a one-time naked distraction, though. That doesn’t have to mean anything, right? She’s not looking for a happily-ever-after here. She’s just trying to get him out of her head.
Alas, when it comes to business and bossy men, Samantha Vine has trouble letting go.
Fireball is the laugh-out-loud first stand-alone installment of the Bridges and Bitters series. If you love found family, hilarious antics, and off-the-charts heat, you'll devour these sexy romantic comedies.
I knew about 20% of the way through that I wasn't going to like it - the writing is okay at best, the MMC gave me the ick immediately, this man is supposed to be a teacher but he has the maturity of one of his students. Their relationship felt so rushed and didn't make sense - the hot and cold was annoying. The last 50% contained quite a bit of spice which wasn't terrible but, yeah, this book just wasnt for me.
This was a fast paced story and it was really enjoyable! Sam is the CEO of a tech company and AJ is sent by his school to attend sort of a community day at Sam's company. Their first meeting doesn't go well and they have some disagreements. Though when they end up spending more time together, they can't deny the attraction between them. Sam was a pretty well plotted character. I loved her independence, her kind, sunshine, nerdy personality but she was a total people pleaser. I admit that I was frustrated by AJ. He let his past trauma get in the way of his relationship with Sam but their chemistry eventually developed a lot. The side characters especially the FOOF group were all so encouraging that I couldn't help but love them! Overall, this was a very engaging read, quick, funny, with a likeable female lead and a grump hero.
I got only 9% into this book before politics came into play. I don’t care which side you fall on but I read to get away from divisive politics, not to read about them in a fictional book. If I wanted that, I would just read the news. So disappointed as I had truly enjoyed this author and had read all her books. I was looking forward to Sam’s story so bummed I couldn’t keep going. It’s a romance novel not a political novel. Not sure if I’ll even attempt any future reads as it appears politics may be headlining and distracting from the story lines.
Extremely fast paced, no basis for the characters’ attraction to one another and really one dimensional relationships with friends and family with tons of plot holes.
I did not ship the FMC or MMC especially as she described him as “hairy” A MILLION TIMES.
1 star is really the highest I could give it in good conscience.
There were way too many references to the hairiness of the MMC and that was super icky! SHE CALLED IT A PELT! A PELT! The relationship and dialogues between the 2 main characters were seriously weird and it doesn't develop well IMO. I didn't get where the attraction came from (other than physical). It was as lacking in the emotion department as it was in the maturity department. Both characters were really annoying. At some point, MMC talks about going to see a therapist. Maybe he should listen to his own advice and grow up. The writing wasn't that good but it was overall readable. But seriously... "am I going to stroke your pelt?" and "his furry chest" are NOT SEXY talk. I hope it was simply a running joke but still... Too icky for me.
Fireball was an exciting read and I recommend it if you want a short and quick contemporary romance. While I won't go as far as labeling this as an enemies-to-lovers book, there was some friction at the beginning—which is generally expected when interacting with strangers. Aside from that, I really enjoyed reading this book. — — — —
the story felt super rushed, it was always on and off, no getting to know each other and I felt like there wasn’t really a plot… I also couldn’t really identify with the characters, I didn’t feel connected to them unfortunately also we get it, he’s hairy
Fireball is a cute rom com that follows Sam, a CEO and founder of a tech company and AJ a teacher for the Pittsburgh school district. They start out as an enemies after a bad first interaction but things do turn around. I found I really enjoyed Sam and found her super relatable (I especially loved the found family in this book), but AJ wasn't really my favorite. He didn't seem as fleshed out to me so he fell a little flat.
I liked the premise of how these 2 characters meet and I felt their relationship progression was mostly pretty normal (except for their first "interaction" that just felt all kinds of weird and out of place for me). I did also find the describing of AJ to be a little odd as Sam seemed to be really into his body hair?? It came up a bit too often for me, that I found it jarring rather than sexy.
Overall I thought the story was cute, the relationship and its progression worked for me and I easily read this in one sitting. Great book to veg out on the couch with or read at the beach.
They go 0 to 100, it does not make sense. The MMC is so annoying, could really really use therapy. I felt 2nd hand embarrassment when she took him back after he was an asshole (throughout the book) with a simple apology. The only positive things are her friend group and the fact that I did not pay for this book.
🎤 I want to talk about 🎙️narration🎙️ first with this review instead of the story for reasons you’re about to find out LOL! Ehlen Valentine and Alastair Haynesbridge, the narrators, are new-to-me and I didn’t even listen to a sample of their voices before I pressed play, which is very rare for me, but here we are. Alastair captured AJ’s personality, especially his grumpy closed off anti-social persona, perfectly. SO perfectly that I loved him from the start, both the narrator and character! Ehlen Valentine took Samantha’s character and just owned it like a boss! This story was alive and in living color in my ears and my head because of these two narrators and they deserve a huge 👏🏻👏🏻round of applause👏🏻👏🏻 for their performance! 5+ STARS!
📖 Fireball was a pretty short, fun lighthearted story that entertained me for the time it was in my ears. That’s about as much depth as the story had, which is completely fine because it wasn’t trying to be something it wasn’t. I think had the story been longer, I might have had a different experience, but it wasn’t. Also, the friendships that Samantha has and the sisterhood that the author represented are also a huge plus of the story because I am all about the girl posey and the empowerment it represents! :) #TeamFooF :)
It's probably the worst book I've picked up this year. How is this a series? 😐 DNF'ed it so hard 3% in.
I had to draw the line at MMC, a teacher, talking to his students about pronouns. I don't mind the characters having differing political views from mine. However, I've read novels where the writers organically presented them without making the characters sound/feel insufferably "woke." In fact, they felt right at the moment.
Anyway, my opinion is subjective, and I'm sure there's an audience for this book. I might give it another shot someday when Everand restricts my audiobooks again for the month. 🤷🏾♀️
Sometimes simple is the best. What an excellent build of a love story. Oh that feeling, when an author gives you enough of each protagonist that you fall in love with their relationship. Happy For Now Ending, Great Read.
I found this book on Stuff Your Kindle Day and was so intrigued by the plot revolving around AJ and Samantha. For an enemies to lovers, I didn't feel the enemies aspect of it at all. They have their first meeting in chapter one while a board meeting at Samantha's company where there is such a high level of miscommunication. Throughout the book AJ seems to dislike Samantha for a very....trivial matter.
I felt like this book had a really good concept, but deeming it as an enemies to lovers would be a mistake. The main reason why AJ doesn't like Sam, is because of one misanswered question (which in itself felt unrealistic as a company coming out into the public would have devoted some amount of time in public communications, especially the CEO/owner).
The relationship, the growth of the connection was sweet, not passionate, just plain sweet and as someone who LOVES enemies to lovers, I was fairly disappointed with the way this book was laid out.
The writing was alright, but not the best for an adult romance which ruined my experience further.
There was a lot about this I really loved/enjoyed and some that I didn't. Overall, I'm glad I read it and think most people would enjoy it.
Sam is the sunny CEO in STEM and AJ is the grumpy Middle School science teacher. They get off on the wrong foot during their first meeting and AJ (while extremely attracted to Sam) writes her off. Sam has a people pleasing issue, so goes out of her way to make it right. WE all know the formula and there's really nothing special about it, but here are the things that stood out to me:
Jewish MMC. I had no idea going in, but it was refreshing and nice. AJ isn't just a reform Jew, either. He seems pretty Conservative. Goes to synagogue with his bubbie every week, celebrates the holidays, is constantly being setup by said bubbie with the daughter/granddaughters of other women at shul. It's nice and funny when I get to see this in books since I've also lived it.
Grumpy/Sunshine. I always really like this trope (maybe because this also is my life) and this one is no different. AJ is jaded/still hurting from past relationships and Sam just doesn't know when to let well enough alone. They keep bumping into each other randomly and with each meeting the will they/won't they just goes up a notch.
The strong girlfriend group. These ladies are all powerful and successful and they celebrate each other and build each other up every chance they get. It's refreshing and how the world should be working at all times.
AJ was a little too immature in the beginning for me. He knows it, we know it, his friends know it. It's kind of a thing. I wasn't a fan of it. The relationship also seemed a little too quick for me. i feel like a little more time could've been spend having the ice thaw on AJs side versus just a insta-lust turned full on love situation.
Ehlen Valentine amd Alastair Haynesbridge did wonderful jobs with the narration. They're both new to me narrators and I'm going to go look for something else by them since I think they elevated this story with their performaces.
Is this the best book I've read all month? No. Is it the worst? No. Was I entertained for the 3ish hours it took for me to listen to this (I listen at 2.5x)? Absolutely.
Samantha invented an app/program that allows scientists to share data and findings, she's on the brink of a massive IPO which could bring her and her staff multi-millions, but rapid expansion has meant that she spends all her time on CEO stuff and doesn't get to code anymore. At an open day for local scientists and press she gets flustered and inadvertently tells a public school science teacher that it wouldn't be a good idea for his students to come to their offices. The teacher, AJ Trachtenberg already has a chip the size of an oak tree on his shoulder about being a teacher rather than something that could earn him $$$, it's the reason his last girlfriend dumped him and dissing his class who never get to go on field trips is just fuel on the fire!
Can sunny Sam win over grouchy AJ? You betcha.
This was a reasonably cute opposites attract romance. I liked that AJ was Jewish and it was treated as an everyday thing, nothing to make a fuss about. However, I found Sam's fascination with his hairy pelt on his back a bit off-putting, she mentioned it so often and it is such a turn-off for me it made me feel a bit squicky. Also, when AJ jumped to conclusions in the inevitable misunderstanding it felt a bit too manufactured.
I found this to be a really fun and fast-paced book. The main female character Sam or Samatha owns and runs her own tech company. Getting ready for a launch she is finding herself pulled short most of the time but she feels she needs to look at everything. Wanting to help the schools in the area as well her company has an open house for science teachers to come in and get a tour and see some of the products that they have which she would like to give to the schools. A.J. is a teacher and is told by his principal to go to this open house sort of speak. Not really wanting to be there he, of course, is rude when she shows up and after they have words back and forth she at the end of the day feels bad. She finds out what school he was from and decides to make an appearance in his class. When she does he is still not pleased but that is because she took it over and he found out that she knows what she is talking about. He is still at times being a jerk to her but yet she wants to be with him. Of course, it is not until he thinks she is with someone else that he actually gets his head out of his ass and becomes civil. His attitude and that of her father are really the only issues I had with the story. Other than that a good fast-paced book. I received this book from Netgalley.com
This is an honest review for an Arc from NetGalley.
This is a modern day Rom-Com that tells of the story of AJ who is a teacher and Samantha who is founder of a Tech Company. They meet at community day at the Middle School AJ teaches at. Things don't go well on the first meeting. Their attempts to make up for it go even worse but eventually AJ is able to convince Sam to let his Middle School students come to her company for a field trip. They get to spend time together during the trip and eventually fall for each other.
Over all this is an enjoyable short read. It's only about 200 pages so things happen a little fast but that is totally understandable. I enjoyed the interactions between Sam and AJ. I do think that this book did have a good mix of steaminess and funny elements to it.
This was a cute little romance. I enjoyed the main character, although found AJ a tad annoying and repetitive at certain stages. I thought that Sam was well fleshed out as a character, and thoroughly enjoyed reading her chapters. While the pacing of the book felt a little fast, I did enjoy how quickly I was able to escape into this book. Overall, a solid romance.
The ARC of this book was kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #Fireball #NetGalley.
This one took me a minute to get into but I enjoyed it overall when I did.
Samantha is a boss babe! I loved her. She’s smart, quirky and loves big. I had a harder time with AJ because he kept doubting her due to his past and she didn’t deserve it. I wanted him to grovel more.
AJ’s family and students were great. I enjoyed the science teacher with the tech mogul. It was the best kind of nerdy fun. I will read more from this author.
I was big surprised at how much I liked this book. It was a Hoopla Bonus Borrow this month and I borrowed it on a whim. And I’m glad I did. I loved the 2 main characters. A Grumpy middle school teacher her with a heart of gold and a people pleasing CEO. 👌 I didn’t like the way AJ shamed Sam because of his own insecurities and past baggage. She forgave him way too soon in my opinion. But alas…she is a people pleaser. Anyway…written very well. I’ll def read more by this new to me author.

This was fun and I loved Samantha. She was so stressed out though and I wanted AJ to step up and support her a little more. Also, I him to open up and be more vulnerable with Samantha, especially after they started getting it on. It just felt weird that even though it affected him so deeply they never had a discussion about how his ex effected his mental health and outlook on relationships. Also, so much about his hairy body. It was fun and quick read though!
March-mid June for a romcom? Yeah… 2 stars. Didn’t keep me interested, when they’d fight, they were too quick to hop back into bed and forgive. “Jump to conclusion so let’s break up” trope… and very open door. I speed read the last 60 pages or so. Meh.
This story was fun and it was great to see STEM represented so well. The one thing that really made me go, ughhhh??? was the constant referencing how hairy AJ was. Just why??
