I want to note for people for whom I show up on their feed that this sounds like a Rachel Hollis-esque self help book by the title and you may think "I didn't think Nicole read those books." I do not, you are correct. This is a memoir by a former plural wife who lived with her ex husband and all his other wives in the desert in the 1990s-00s. I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone who wasn't already familiar with her family, but when I read/watched stuff about them 15-20 years ago, I always would think "I hope they are doing okay. I hope Hannah in particular is doing okay." I was thrilled to learn, years later, that she'd gotten out, and that she's much happier now.

Give Yourself Permission: A Story of Courage, Healing, and Empowerment

Rating:5/5

Review:

👉Hannah Stauber’s Give Yourself Permission is a remarkable testament to the power of resilience and self-liberation. In this deeply personal memoir, Stauber recounts her journey from an unimaginable childhood—becoming a 14-year-old child bride in a polygamist marriage—to the extraordinary woman she became: a single mother of four, a master’s degree graduate, and a successful nurse practitioner. Her story is both heartbreaking and inspiring, showing the unyielding strength of the human spirit when faced with oppression and adversity.

👉What makes this book truly powerful is its balance of vulnerability and practical guidance. Stauber does not dwell on victimhood; she transforms her experiences into lessons that empower readers to heal, find their voice, and embrace self-love. Her insights address not only overcoming societal and cultural constraints but also breaking free from the limiting beliefs and doubts that often hold women back. Every chapter reads like a heartfelt conversation with a mentor who has navigated the most difficult paths and emerged stronger, wiser, and radiant.

👉Stauber’s achievements are presented not with ego but with purpose, illustrating that transformation is possible for anyone willing to take the steps toward reclaiming their life. The book provides tools for empowerment, practical advice, and spiritual reflections, making it both an inspiring memoir and a guide to self-discovery.

👉Give Yourself Permission is a manifesto for women who have been silenced or sidelined, a beacon of hope for those seeking to overcome personal and systemic barriers, and an invitation to step fully into one’s power, embrace worth, and live authentically.

Happy reading 😁 😁

Required reading

Having heard about this book on YouTube, I originally thought I wanted to read it to learn about the family I had seen. The first part of this book satisfied that goal. I kept reading only to discover that I was actually reading about the person I had allowed myself to be from my earliest days. How I wish I had been able to connect with these principles before my 70th year! Better late than never!

Repetitive

The same versus over and over. Quite boring. But glad she found peace and is now emotionally healthy. Too bad she didn't learn sooner
