Nicholas Glyn Paul Gumbel, known as Nicky Gumbel, is an English Anglican priest and author in the evangelical and charismatic traditions. He is known as the developer of the Alpha Course, a basic introduction to Christianity supported by churches of many Christian traditions.
I am an atheist. I found this book lying in the University cafeteria, and got curious. I don't mean any disrespect to any faith. So, please take my words below with that in mind.
Initially it had a mature, realistic humour. As it became more literal, it became funnier for me, but in a different way. Then it became more like sermonising and my reading slowed down.
Overall, interesting. I agree with many of the morals, rather most of the morals of all religions, just not the complete reality of the stories. But it is good to read something like this once in a while so different from your own views.
The purpose of this book was to preach, and preach it did. I knew what I was getting into, so no complaints there. 2 stars.
