Each New Day

Rate this book
Each New Day is a collection of short yet profound devotions for every day of the year from the heart of Corrie ten Boom. This remarkable woman of great faith and author of the best-selling The Hiding Place was able to trust and serve God even in a Nazi concentration camp-and throughout each day that followed. In this book, she guides readers on how they, too, can find hope, victory, and wisdom.
Based on incidents from Corrie's fascinating life, each day's entry illustrates scriptural principles and attests to God's faithfulness. The result is a year-long candid reminder of the Christian's victory over sin, Satan, and death; of God's promises and care; and that each new day brings a chance to serve and love him more.

Corrie ten Boom and her family were Christians who were active in social work in their home town of Haarlem, the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, they chose to act out their faith through peaceful resistance to the Nazis by active participation in the Dutch underground. They were hiding, feeding and transporting Jews and underground members hunted by the Gestapo out of the country. It is estimated they were able to save the lives of 800 Jews, in addition to protecting underground workers.

On Feb. 28, 1944, they were betrayed and Corrie and several relatives were arrested. The four Jews and two underground workers in the house at the time of the arrest were not located by the Nazis and were extricated by the underground 47 hours after they fled to the tiny hiding place (located in Corrie's room).

The ten Boom family members were separated and transferred to concentration camps. Corrie was allowed to stay with her precious sister, Betsy. Corrie's father (Casper), her sister (Betsy) and one grandchild (Kik) perished. Corrie was released in December of 1944.

These acts of heroism and sacrifice became the foundation for Corrie ten Boom's global writing and speaking career which began after she was released.

Ten Boom has received numerous awards for her writing and speaking. Notably, she was honored by the State of Israel for her work in aid of the Jewish people by being invited to plant a tree in the famous Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles, at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, near Jerusalem. She was also knighted by the Queen of the Netherlands in recognition of her work during the war, and a museum in the Dutch city of Haarlem is dedicated to her and her family.

Corrie’s words were such a comfort during a tumultuous year. To have this sweet saint’s prayers echoing in my ears every morning was a blessing. To have her perspective of pain and suffering in light of our loving and caring Heavenly Father was a necessity I couldn’t foresee. I will forever be thankful for Corrie and her faithful work to our Father.

This was a year long devotional, but I ended up reading 5 of the devotionals a day, so I finished it in just a few months.

What I Liked: I think this is an excellent devotional for new Christians and I enjoyed it very much myself. Corrie shares some very brief stories from her own life and seeks to encourage other believers in their walk with Christ.

What I Didn't Like: The only thing I didn't like about this book were some of the versions of the Bible used. But that's just a personal preference of mine. I didn't have any other issues with this devotional book.

I give this book 4 stars for an encouraging devotional.

Corrie Ten Boom is undoubtedly one of the most inspiring Christian women I've ever read about. The fact that she forgave those that brutally murdered her sister & later beat & tortured her, is beyond remarkable, it's supernatural. Although anything of Ten Boom's is likely worth reading, I didn't especially enjoy this devotion. There are some true spiritual gems to be found, but the format seemed clumbsy & there didn't seem to be a common theme to the sections. Lots of individual sayings coupled together in my opinion but not a cohesive work. There are better volumes out there by Ten Boom.

This little gem is a wonderful strength building and encouraging devotional. I am not a big fan of devotionals, but I do have a select few that I recommend. This little gem is one of them. I have never tired of reading Corrie Ten Boom. She is precious, and she has so much to offer. She was a shining example of a true follower of Jesus Christ. Yes I would recommend this devotional and any of her writings to just everyone.

"My life is but a weaving, between my God and me.
I do not choose the colors, He worketh steadily.
Ofttimes He weaveth sorrow, and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper, and the underside.
Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful in the skillful Weaver's hand,
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned."

This is a daily christian devotional book, but I am a little too OCD to spread out a book for 366 days. My schedule would not accommodate it and I struggle to read books spread out over long periods of time. I have only found one exception to the rule and that's The Bible.
I enjoyed this book. Though I read it much faster then intended I still found it beneficial and worth the time. I really love Corrie ten Boom. What a humbling life she led!

I want to share one more quote:
"God is voting for us all the time. The devil is voting against us all the time. The way we vote carries the election."

Always excellent reading material by Tante Corrie. I am honored to be working in the ministry representing her to this day for the very reason that each book, each message, each recording, the entirety of all of everything that encompasses the ministry stemming from great suffering, can reach so many readers and followers on so many different levels. Blessings on those that read this!

Corrie ten Boom can reach your heart, tickle your conscience, or encourage you to change your ways in the fewest paragraphs of anyone I've ever read. I love her wisdom derived from trusting God during hard times and her faith derived from His never letting her down. Simple. Straight-forward. Encouraging. Convicting. This should be in everyone's home.

This is a daily devotional which I read in chunks. There were some daily readings that spoke to me, but to be really inspired by Corrie ten Boom read The Hiding Place.

A joy to spend a year with this book. Tara Gerig gave it to me. And I have now passed it on to Denise Pretzer.

A preocupação aqui é outra.

These books changed my life as a teenager reading them. My Aunt Betty shared her collection with me. Very inspiring book of prayers from the life of Corrie Ten Boom, an amazing woman who took tragic life and kept God's glory front and center through it all. Reminds me that nothing is bigger than God himself. Daily devotional.

I actually just morked this book as read becaus eI own a copy of it given to me by my Sunday school teacher...but I really never got anything out of these devotions so I quit reading them...I've learned that I have better devotions in my REVOLE DEVOTIONAL BIBLE which btw every teenage girl should own! So yea, I totally think that this is not a devotional book worth buying.

Ideal for people without much time, or who want to memorize a daily verse, this book contains a short thought or story, a verse and a prayer for each day. After it proved very challenging to keep up with my main devotional last year, I'm enjoying the apparent simplicity of this one, as well as the stories which reveal a tiny part of God's heart or plan through the lives of ordinary people.

I was hoping for more of a devotional, something with a little more depth. This is more like inspirational thoughts. Still, it's a nice addition to devotions.
