Personally, I enjoyed this story quite a lot. I found it unique, interesting and fun to read.
🎪 The story takes place at the Circus Macabre, in the nightmare realms. Here as the name implies is where all the nightmares of humans are made.
Our FMC is Lissome an aerial performer who falls to her death on a nightly basis. She is growing tired of this and hopes for a new act where there is no need for her to die.
She has some trauma regarding this, in part thanks to her ex boyfriend Malevolent ‘Mal’, an odious clown who enjoys inflicting pain and death upon her.
Our MMC is Hunter, he runs the ticket booth at the circus; but he is formerly of the ‘Headless Horseman’ fame. He does not perform at the circus mostly because he is prevented to by his lack of confidence.
He also wishes to one day change his role within the circus, but finds it difficult to do so since he has grown to be very antisocial and the rest of the circus employees fear him.
Liss and Hunt are given the opportunity to do something different when a visit from the Nightmare King and a mysterious guest requires them to put on a performance together.
🎪 Although there were some dark gory moments, they weren’t so bad. I liked this story and its characters. The vocabulary used in this book was great, I liked the flow and some word choices were interesting and fun! I like when authors don’t fall prey to boring repetitiveness in their vocabulary.
🎪 The love story. Well, I won’t lie and say this was the epitome on love or that it was perfect. It was your typical insta-love type story that was done in a way where not only was it believable, but also we root for the characters and enjoy when they get their HEA.
🎪 The spice was very, very interesting. The vines were a fun addition to the fun ‘Pumpkin Spice’. 😉 Okay, bad joke I’ll let myself out. 🤦🏻♀️
🎪🤡 Can I just take a moment to say how much I hated Mal? Firstly, he’s a clown, and I am not proud to say I have a fear of them since my childhood (thank you Tim Curry as Pennywise); and secondly, he is a complete asshole and jerk! Gods, can we just chuck him off the highest peak into a volcano? Fuck that clown! 🤡 🩸🗡️
All in all I found this book to be quite entertaining. I liked it immensely. Was it perfect? No, of course not. What book is? But it was a unique, quick read that was loads of fun. I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌/5.
