Omg, y'all. This book was smutty as hell. I loved it SO much! I read this sucker in one sitting, lol. Evie Rose has the ability to write ANYTHING and make it sound yummy and forbidden! She's definitely a one-click author for me. Her novellas since she debuted are wonderful, amazing age gap mafia books. But this one? It took her writing to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL! I'm always amazed by her writing - the way she tells the story is addicting. Evie Rose is a fab author, she deserves all the praise in the world.

So I’m in my “adorable smut” phase. 🤭

This novella had the smuttiest of premises (he’s a Scottish mafia boss and her best friend’s dad, they enter an arranged marriage where free use is in the vows) but I also thought “nawwww!” because they were both pining after each other hard.

This book was fine and quick with some things that didn't work for me.

So FMC is a 21 orphan who wants family and kids. She's obsessively in love with her girl friend's dad.

MMC is a mafia kingpin and he writes the draft of this advertisement on his computer: "I want a housewife who agrees to a marriage of convenience. She's up to have multiple kids. Laughs at my jokes. Partake in my social events. 5.4ft+brown hair+ blue eyes. NO LOVE"
He pretty much described the FMC.

When she happens to read the draft she tells him she's up to it. She thinks he's just lonely and up for a marriage of convenience without love.

He thinks that she wants the financial security and could never love an old man like him. He actually wrote the clause of (no love) in the draft thinking if he went with publishing the advertisement women shouldn't expect his love since his heart is forever secretly held by the FMC (Yeah, swooooon)

What bothered me to no end is him calling her REPEATEDLY a free use wife. Apparently the term means: he holds the power to initiate sex, she's just a sex toy, and he could have sex with her anytime and anywhere even without her consent. (To me: she needs to be called a cum bucket)!

The second thing: for quite some time she kept calling him Mr. Blackstone long after being married and intimate. That repulsed me cuz it painted the MMC in the lights of a perverted old man.

However this novella ticks perfectly the box of "Read a book under 150 pages" in my Bingo Read Challenge of 2024!

Even though it was pretty hot, it wasn't "melting" hot. And that's despite this being breeding kink heaven.

The book is certainly smutty but as far as it being marketed as Filthy Scottish Kingpins, it was a total let down.

I wish authors would research more when using accents.

Especially Scottish accents.
We don’t stereotypical say lass, nawt 😱 or naw, or Bonnie lass.

The author also needs to know there are no moors in Scotland.

The MC got married in a kilt but the FC talks about grabbing his suit jacket?

Filthy it was. What let it down was the Scottish element.

Okay, first, this is one of the steamiest books I’ve ever read, so if you don’t love you a steamy book, you should probably move along. There’s nothing to see here. 😉

This story was surprisingly cute. I normally hate fake romances, but this was a new type of story for this author, so I had to give it a read. They’re both kind of idiots too, which made the story a bit amusing as well. Loving eachother, but agreeing to enter into a ‘loveless’ contract marriage lol.

The MMC is the dad of the FMC’s best friend. The bestie goes out of town to travel the world for a year and the MMC decides he wants a wife because his house will be too quiet… but not an ordinary marriage mind you, nope he wants a free use, loveless marriage.

As you can imagine, the book has all the steams. We get little mini cameos from some of the past characters in her other mafia/bratva stories from London. I really liked both MC’s for so many reasons.

The only thing I was bummed about is that I really wanted a little more story once they’d figured things out.

If you’re unsure of if you’ll dig this kind of book, it’s pretty short. If you like the author, give it a whirl. I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing the MMC’s daughter in the next book!

Not only was Blythe eager but she was downright desperate. It wasn’t enough that she’d been in love with her best friend’s dad ever since they’d met but now her best friend is going away on a year long trip, taking away any chance to see Mr. Blackstone but she’s also facing being homeless after getting scammed on the apartment sharing she’d already paid for. When she accidentally sees his advertisement for a wife of convenience, one he can use as he desires, she’s determined no other woman will get what she craves to have.

Duncan had never really intended to place the ad, he certainly hadn’t intended for Blythe to see it; it described her to T. And if he ever DID place it, it would be for convenience only because his heart was owned by his daughter’s best friend. Even though he was desperately in love with her, he knew his daughter would never understand and Blythe herself would never want a man old enough to be her father. Except she DOES. She begged to be his free use wife and now she’s his but he can never let her know how he feels…

This was a deliciously filthy book, hot and so, SO good. My only wish was that Duncan had let a few more tender feelings show. He was a bit of a jerk at times and came across as unfeeling (though we as readers know he was anything BUT unfeeling) so I’m sure it’ll be understandable to other readers why my absolute favorite part was the ending. Now I’m off to read the bonus epilogue, can’t wait! 5 super steamy stars!!.

4.5 stars. Whilst helping her best friend pack for her trip to Europe, Blythe, the female lead, happens to see her friend’s dad’s advertisement for a wife of convenience. She’s loved Duncan, the male lead, since she met him and the description matches her, so she offers.

Duncan has been entranced by Blythe and was looking for a marriage of convenience because he didn’t expect he could have her but now that she’s offered…

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a highly erotic, contemporary, age gap, best friend’s dad, mafia adjacent romance. I greatly enjoyed the frequent erotic intimate scenes that were entirely in line with the advertisement and yet showed more than physical engagement by both characters. I enjoyed Blythe’s willingness to take a risk and tell Duncan what she wanted. I enjoyed Duncan’s enjoyment of Blythe’s “days off” and his acknowledgment that he wanted more than he’d initially asked for. I enjoyed the resolution and the extended epilogue, especially the relaxed way the characters accepted their physical desires.

Evie Rose doesn’t disappoint with this short, sweet and spicy story about Blythe, an innocent young woman, that comes across an advertisement on her best friend’s father’s computer for a marriage of convenience, where that wife that will also be a free use wife. Duncan is Blythe’s best friend’s father, and a Scottish mafia kingpin that Blythe has been in love with for a long time. Blythe asks Duncan if she can apply for the job and initially, he says no, even though he has been secretly lusting after Blythe. However, he later reluctantly agrees to the forbidden, taboo marriage. Both are concerned about what Duncan’s daughter Ainsley will think. My favorite scene was Blythe and Duncan getting married. It was hilarious.

Basically, the story is vividly described smut with interesting characters and a thin story about the mafia sprinkled throughout. If you are like me and appreciate a good spicy story, this one doesn’t disappoint. Don’t read unless you want your panties blown off.

Duncan has been obsessed with with Blythe since she came home for Christmas with his daughter.
This is their tangled story.

1.75 stars - This novella was not good :(
The best part was the epilogue and the kids acting like dragons.

I felt like the word "free use" was tossed around so much, but there was very few scenes in which we got a detailed picture of the free use happening. Also, lots of breeding kink...

I would have enjoyed the spicy scenes more if there were actual descriptions of the free use happening (e.g., "She was gleefully reading her book with a dragon on the cover on the couch. I approached her and took a seat next to her. I pushed her book to the side and told her to get on her knees and TTDLAGG." Then, go into all the schmexy descriptions of what he tells her to do...multiple instances of this.). I'm no author, but something like THIS would have been so much fun to read! I was just bored :(

Mewsings- I’ll be honest here, I’ve never read a book that called itself free use before but it doesn’t seem much different from other erotic romance novels, where they do the things all the time and in all the places. What I do like is that everything is consensual here. The zexytime is pretty steamy, and includes Primal Play, a Breeding Kink, and lots of different surfaces.
