Thunder rolled in my footsteps. The clouds cried as I felt the weight of darkness!
As a result of injuries sustained more than twenty years ago in motor vehicle accidents, Pebbles Wireman battles an invisible illness—pseudotumor cerebri and chronic daily migraines. These invaders hold her captive to daily suffering. Through her writing and speaking ministry she testifies not to her weakness, but to her faith and perseverance.
In the summer before her last year of high school, Pebbles Wireman sustained multiple injuries in a motor vehicle accident, including a traumatic brain injury. Three years later, a second accident exacerbated her previous injuries, leaving her with debilitating, life-changing diagnoses. Despite the physical and mental challenges, many surgeries, and hospitalizations, Pebbles completed a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in ministry. She now shares her story of grit, determination, and faith through her speaking and writing. Although Pebbles battles multiple illnesses, she has not permitted them to stop her from fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming an author and ministering to children in the hospital.
This was such a different book that it's hard to quantify. But by the end of it I truly felt I knew the author, although we've never met. We share a love for horses, dogs, and most especially Jesus, though so we have something to talk about whenever we do meet, even if it's not until we meet in heaven.
I don't need to discuss the plot, because obviously that's covered in the blurb. What I'd rather touch on is the self-pity, and the ultimate lack of self-pity, with which Pebbles approaches her situation. Only someone else who has suffered as much as Pebbles can understand everything she talks about. But there were truly a couple of places in the book where I was ready to pull a Job's wife--"hey, curse God and die. Nobody would blame you." Without even knowing I was thinking that, though, Pebbles addressed my doubt, showing how God showed her his love for her even in the midst of the storm.
To say much more would be to provide spoilers, and I don't want to do that. Suffice it to say it's a readworthy book. Read it on a day when you're feeling down, and you'll discover you have surprisingly little to feel down about. Read it on a day when you feel great, and you'll know why you feel great. But read it. And then go back and read it again.
Stories - both fictional and true - can inspire, teach, humble, and more. This one certainly did this for me. I'm honored to have been part of the author's (Pebbles Wireman's) launch team - I just didn't quite have the words to share my own post about her book until recently. And this book only touches on the tip of the iceberg. I recommend not only reading her book but following her - both here, Facebook, etc. She's faced health crises, car crashes, family troubles, hard-headed teachers, and more with God's grace. She's amazing!
I met Pebbles Wireman at the Knoxville Book Festival last year. She autographed my book, and I told her about my daughter, who had passed away three months prior to this. My daughter endured so much pain in her life. Like Pebbles, she was a wonderful witness for the Lord. Pebbles Wireman is such an inspiration!
This memoir shares the struggles of someone who continues to have faith in God in the midst of many medical hardships. Her tone is upbeaqt even as she shares things that could easily cause one to fall into self-pity. It is an inspiring story for those experiencing hardship themselves.
A straightforward and tender telling of Pebble's determination and persistence to prepare herself for ministry to children despite numerous obstacles. Obstacles that would crush most of us, but not Pebbles.
I am impressed with her determination and attitude of seeing and reaching beyond any and every current circumstance. Her faith and persistence reminds me of the woman in Luke who determined to get justice despite the odds. The odds are in Pebble's favor, because she is trusting in God's redeeming power.
Did you know the odds are in your favor too? Pebbles wants you to know and that is why she shared her painful but faith-filled and victorious story.
