This seems like it would be a cute read, but it’s written as though either AI or a middle schooler wrote it. Every setting is described with the same handful of fall scents and colors, there are gaps in the plot, and I couldn’t stand the repetitiveness. I’d hoped for a cozy, light read, but this wasn’t it.
There are parts where the books skips what is going on. In the beginning it's keeping that something is missing a secret and then the next paragraph half the town knows and she's already searched everywhere. I was hoping to have found a cute fall book series I could read and enjoy, but I can't do plots skipping that much within such a small amount of pages.
I haven't finished the book yet but it's only 100 pages and as it sits right now I'm on page 39 so I'll finish the entire thing today, but I will not be picking up book 2 or continuing this series as I fear that the whole series will skip as much information as this one has.
This book was…not good. The story didn’t seem to flow and things didn’t match up. One minute she lived above the bakery and the next she was walking to the bakery to open it up for the morning? It didn’t make sense. Details were repeated but then crucial details were left out, like her going to the police and Jason stepping in to say that they have “looked everywhere” for the missing syrup even though that wasn’t part of the story. There were spelling errors throughout. Just not super enjoyable even though the book held such promise.
Let me start by saying it was a cute cozy mystery. But it was so repetitive with things and quite a few grammatical errors and I think a whole page was missing at one point. I can say it could win a prize for the most times the words cozy, cinnamon, nutmeg and autumn were used in one book. Especially cozy. Every other word was cozy. It certainly set the scenes well, with the use of many adjectives. I feel like maybe the author forgot what she'd already written a couple of times, because later on the book she wrote the exact opposite. Again, it was a cute book, a little confusing. But if you love autumn then you may like this book.
This was recommended by an author in her newsletter so I thought why not, it’s on KU. I really enjoyed it a lot. There wasn’t an intense mystery like I’m used to in cozies, but it was just more relaxed and focused a lot on friendship and a grandmother’s legacy. Ella’s got some really amazing friends and a sweet guy who’s interested in her too, so I’d say now her mystery was solved, she was a very happy camper after a fun harvest festival. It made me think of a sweet little fall Hallmark movie.
9/27/25: One of the most poorly written books I've ever read. Whole pages missing? Weird time jumps that don't make sense. Dialogue that has no logical flow. Inconsistencies in the plot. I don't have any evidence of this being AI, but it is so weirdly bad I do question the authorship. Surely a professional writer can proofread?
Actually, I would give this book 3.5 stars. It was a cute cozy little story with positive vibes, a little bit of mystery, and a lovely family and community link. However, I didn’t give it a full four stars because there were many many editing errors that were missed in this book
3.5 stars. I loved the authors writing and how descriptive everything was and how cozy. Loved the fall vibes it gave and enjoyed the mystery aspect of it too.
