Pretty Little Threats

Rate this book
A dark secret. A corrupt marriage. And a beast who might just fall for the beauty.

DARE
Power. Control. Darkness.
I’ve built an empire with those three things, and I’ll destroy anyone who tries to threaten it.
When Rose Miller’s father announces her arranged marriage to a man far worse than me, I step in. She needs my protection. But she doesn’t know the price of my help.
We share a secret, one that could ruin us both. A crime that ties us together in ways she doesn’t understand.
I’ll marry her, keep her safe, but make no mistake, she won’t just be my wife. She’ll be mine, body and soul.

ROSE
I’ve spent my life following every rule my father set. But when he tries to give me to a monster, I realize I’ve been trapped in a gilded cage.
Dare Richardson might be the only one who can protect me, but he's ruthless. A dangerous beast I’ve always despised.
The truth is, we’re both running from something darker than either of us, and when he offers me a way out, I can’t help but accept.
The man I once swore to hate is now my husband.
And the beast within him? He’s the only one who can set me free.

This is a dark contemporary MF romance. It is the first standalone in the Princes of NYC series.

I loved her. She is intelligent but trusts her father too much. Rose is sassy, confident and her insults were so funny.

This man is perfect. He is hot, rich and dangerous. His obsession with Rose grows from page to page and he is our favorite walking red flag.

This book was such a fun and entertaining read. I grinned the whole time and giggled while reading it. This made me so happy and I couldn‘t put it down. The pages just flew by and I didn‘t realised this has nearly 400 pages.
The plot is thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat sometimes. There are all the right tropes and I ate that shit up.
Rose and Dare have amazing tension. Their banter was chefs kiss and I laughed a lot. Every dialogue is tension filled and I loved how creative the author got. You can feel the enemies to lovers and the hate-love-tension. As a couple these two were a force. Both are powerful and on the top of the food chain. They play a dangerous game and fall in love with each other in the process.
I don‘t have anything bad to say about this book. It was very enjoyable and although the plot was kinda predictable the love story was worth it.
Overall a great billionaire romance book with a lot of tension and a marriage of convenience.

An engaging read!
The connection between these two characters is what really drove this book for me 🥰 Rose is a sassy witty thing whose been forced to wear a mask of steel after being constantly whittled away at by her father- although she sees this as character building. Yet as the book progresses we see her emotions and vulnerabilities shine through drawing you into her life 👑 Dare is “the beast” misunderstood and pushed to do things to protect his family above all else, he’s guarded and rightfully so but underneath is a a care giver and protector 😍
These two hate each other yet circumstances force them together and Dare because he needs Rose to see the truth and Rose well she’s out for protection and destruction 😅 their chemistry is insane and when they give in 🔥🔥 Some bits of this I saw coming and there were no big “ah hah” moments which made it an easy unchallenging read. I blitzed through this in one day as I couldn’t let these two go ☺️

Reread 12/22/25 - I’m in love with this series. Dare & Rose are everything.

He’s known as the beast of NYC. She’s known as the ice queen and her father’s puppet. None of it is true. Read the book to find out why. It’s so good.

Wow! I loved Rose & Dare. The angst, banter and spice is top notch. Highly recommend.

I started with book 2 (ARC read) which is how I found Daria Quinn. I knew immediately that I needed to purchase book 1 and it did not disappoint. Daria does dark mafia romance very well.

So looking forward to Remy & Crue’s books. Daria is a new auto buy author for me.

This was a decent read, I enjoyed it. The fmc annoyed me a lot of the time though with how blindly loyal she was to her father even when he was waving red flags in her face constantly. I really liked the mmc though, will always love a ‘my wife’ moment 😍

3.5 stars. An enjoyable read for the most part! The heroine was incredibly naive at first, but she started to get better over time. The chemistry between her and the H, their banter and the dirty talk was all great. I did have some trouble with the pacing and overall plot execution. The way the creepy arranged fiance was killed nearly at the beginning before they were even married was a weird choice, I expected more tension there, but he was dead before we even had time to really despise him and then Dare marrying her didn't really make any sense at that point. Then you have the Dad who was so obviously evil from the beginning. I wish that had been a little less obvious and more subtle. I also found it strange how you have the heroine who has been trying to find evidence against him the whole book and he does nothing about it, yet the one time she reveals information to her dad COMPLETELY accidentally, Dare completely writes her off and sends her away. She didn't deserve that and frankly, she was a hypocrite getting mad at her for the very thing he would have been mad about! He got jealous of PILLOWS for Christ sake. Also, she handled it correctly. She came to confront him about it, after also getting it checked. I get why he was upset, but the fact he acted like she betrayed him on purpose when she actually had a pretty legitimate reason sucked. There were definitely times I thought she deserved his anger for being stupid and naive, but that wasn't one of those times. I'm disappointed this wasn't ever addressed. Still, overall I enjoyed the book and would prob try this author again.

This was a really good read! I love a good enemies to lovers and then add in an arranged marriage and I’m all in!

Rose & Darian are a dynamic couple. The chemistry is insane from the start and it just builds throughout the story.

Dare is on a vengeance operation, to make the one who killed his parents pay.
Rose is the daughter of Dares direct competitor. She is sassy and very direct. She hates Dare and makes that very apparent.

These two end up thrust together after an incident leaves no other option. They try to hold out but it doesn’t last long. The banter and the spice are sooo good, who doesn’t like a good hate fu*k ?!

I would absolutely read book two when it’s ready!

I was hooked from the beginning of this story and continued to be enthralled until the end.

I loved both lead characters in this story with their very different personalities yet similar tastes. Both had the same values underneath it all and both had missed out on so much, even though they were children of wealthy people. The passion between Dare and Rosalynn is off the charts but was it enough?

My mind rebelled when Rose and Dare went to see Joseph, her father, and he didn’t even notice or comment on the facial injuries she had. Yes, Joseph was irate but he was still her father and to me, I would have immediately questioned if Dare had caused these injuries. I started to actively mentally chant #TeamRose, let’s kick this meanie off the corporate board! 😆

The suspense is excellent in this story with some extremely hairy moments. I found myself expecting even more and reading as quickly as I could to see what would happen. The mystery element is terrific, we’re given plenty of hints as to who might have done some killing but it’s the why that is so important and it isn’t revealed until the end. Everything is tied up so neatly yet filled with so much emotion. Brilliantly done.

This was so good! I was living for Rose and Dare together! Rose is a strong, but also cold FMC controlled by her father, while Dare is a tough, morally grey MMC who runs a powerful empire. They end up getting married due to blackmailing, and what follows is full of intense chemistry and unexpected twists.
Rose struggles to balance her loyalty to her father with her need to break free and find her own path. Dare is the kind of guy who might seem like a “beast” on the outside, but underneath, he’s protective and deeply passionate about Rose and I was LOVING it. Their relationship is all about tension, at first, they can’t stand each other, but things quickly heat up, and they start to get to know each other better.
I loved the banter between Dare and Rose throughout the book, it was sooo good! The suspense and the hidden secrets keep things interesting, too. If you like dark romance that's intense, steamy, and with some suspense, this one is definitely for you!

It's supposed to be written by an established author under a penname.
Had this been a debut novel, I wld have been fine with it.

But an established author wrote this?
The dress combination and the color of the hair was unnecessary info.
I didn't not need to know that cassia has cinnamon hair every single time she comes on page or that dare's blond hair is unruly! We got it the 1st time description was mentioned, don't need to hammer these unnecessary infos in our psche! There is no test to see whether anyone remembered the color of their frnd's hair or what the characters were wearing every single time!
Found myself skimming not only the description part but also the sex part.
I got bored.

1.5⭐️ Mafia enemies to lovers romance.

I struggled with this one and skimmed the last half. It was pretty boring. Like many others, the enemies to lovers trope isn’t executed well. There’s minimal backstory or development between the MCs to portray hatred. It’s not believable.

What grated on my nerves was that MMC Darian is referred to as Dare every other sentence. The author doesn’t use pronouns. Everything is Dare this and Dare that. Wtf is Dare and why can’t you use ‘he.’

“Rose is wholly mine. Body, soul, anger, happiness, her heart. They’re all mine. I let her see exactly how much I want her. I take down every wall, unleash every wicked desire, every violent urge, and show her every part of the man she calls beast.”

I’m as obsessed with this book as Dare is obsessed with Rose…okay maybe not that bad but this was AMAZING. I ate this book up. From the very beginning I was engrossed in the story and what was going to happen with Rose and Dare. They were so hot together. The “my wife” moments had me absolutely feral!!!

Dare was down bad once he fell, I loved it. The chemistry between these two jumped off the page. I was also here for the engaging plot, the way it was a smidge suspenseful had me on the edge of my seat. I think going into this blind is best but know that it’s an amazing marriage of convenience between two stubborn people who run so hot they combust (in the best way) when they come together. And they do come together…often 😉

Oh man this was a fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down.

So much angst and frustration. Miscommunication and mystery. Some very delicious spice. It’s packed full of great writing.

Rose has a blind loyalty to her father that I couldn’t relate to or understand but I still loved her and felt a lot of sympathy for her. Dare though, oh that man made me grin, I am obsessed with him. There is a lot of great banter between our MCs that made me laugh even when I wanted to choke them out for not opening their eyes.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I’m hoping for Cassia and Mace’s story.

Every girl deserves a Dare!

This book was DEVOURED! Started reading it in the morning of my night shift and I COULDN’T put it down! It was so good! So addictive! The whole she’s my enemy, he’s my enemy type vibe ARGHHH!!!

Rose is the daughter of CEO who uses her as his pawn to get what he wants. Her father makes her wear this mask where she is seen as the ice princess and cold. Her father hates when she shows emotions and always tries to make her suppress it. No one sees Rose’s true self until Dare. Dare and Rose are sore enemies, they hate each other so much and Dare hates her father even more! Rose is used as a pawn by her father once again where he announces that Rose is getting married to Eric (an asshole who tried to force himself on Rose before), breaking the promise he made to little Rose, that she would never have to have an arranged marriage! Dare does not like this arrangement either and he is the only one who sees the real Rose under her cold mask. Rose is feeling betrayed by her father and in attempts to get away from Eric and that arranged marriage, she breaks into Dare’s house and asks him to marry her. In which it gets steamy but he rejects the idea in attempt to play with Rose a little bit. However, as Rose arrives home, she finds that Eric had broken in to her house and is waiting for her, this leads Rose and Eric in having an altercation where Eric attempts to force himself on her and it ends with Rose having the knife to his neck. Dare helps her to kill Eric and uses that as leverage. The story goes from there 😍

✨Secrets, betrayals, lust, sassiness and love!

Honestly from the very first chapter, you can feel the tension between the two main characters, in the bakery. The way he helps her to kill the guy who tried to force himself on her and tries to use that as a leverage (not really) to marry her after she had asked him to marry her 15 minutes prior to that event happening in hopes to avoid the arranged marriage her father had planned with THAT prick!

The way he protected Rose from that monster and tried to show her who he truly was!!!!

I just wish Dare hadn’t ignored her and told her to leave the way he did when her world as she knew was falling apart, I understand he had to protect his sisters but he knew Rose, he knew his wife. But besides that I do not have any complaints about this man!

He is truly the dream man! Definitely book hubby material! He is so attentive, caring, funny, loyal, sweet and loving, even when he is seen as the ‘monster’, he may be morally grey but he is hot 🥵🔥
The way he obsess over Rose and acts towards her even tho she is his ENEMY 😍🥰🙈

God I really love him.
Gotta protect Dare at all costs, don’t care!

Rose, I love Rose. But my girl was blind, BLIND by fear of losing the only parent, the only family member who “cared” about her that she did not realise and if she did was naively making excuses for a monster who was using her as pawn in his dirty little game.

I feel for Rose, the way she was ready to just DIE when she realised the truth broke my bitty little heart, my girl did not deserve that!
I just wish that it didn’t happen the way it did for her to find out the truth, but that’s okay because everything worked out.

Rose is so caring, sweet, loyal and loving. She also is a BADASS! Some may say she is the moon but she is definitely the sunshine, and the beach suits her so well. Her energy is so beautiful and I’m so happy that Dare was able to make her see that and not let anyone dim her beautiful light!
I love my girl!

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THAT HAPPENS!!!!

I will be honest, I wish I had seen a bit more of interaction between Cassia and Rose as they are besties and it did annoy me a little bit the way Cassia ignored Rose when the truth came out (I understand in a way but cmon she was your bestie and you also knew she was going through something and it took for you to find out that Rose had been kidnapped to actually show up and not ignore her??!!!!!) that felt so out of character to me, in comparison to the beginning of the book. I still like Cassia tho.

I wish I had seen more of Orion but I understand that he wasn’t Rose’s friend either but I liked him. I hope to see more of him in the future.

And don’t get me started on Remy. I understand that he is loyal to Dare, they are besties and he is Dare’s bodyguard but his hatred for Rose is solely because she is seen as ‘rich’ and Remy hates the rich. Yet, she has never done anything to hurt Remy, in fact she always tried to be nice to him and he was nice to everyone but to her. In a way it’s also because of her father, but even when she proved herself to not be anything like her father, he still was mean and the way he was tempted to kill her at her lowest point was just something. I do like Remy tho.

Irene, that woman is precious and must be protected at all costs!!!!

Rose’s father is a piece of shit! I LOVE the way in end Rose was so over it and allowed Dare to do what he needed to do to that monster! Justice was served in my eyes.

Overall,
I know it seems like I complained about this book but that’s just things the characters did that made me go mad but in all honesty…

This book ATE! I loved every second of it! I loved nearly all the characters. I need more, I crave more!
Definitely would read again and definitely recommend it!!!

She’s the daughter of my enemy, and I’ll fu*ck her like she’s one.

In my constant search for new to me authors to obsess over, the blurb to Pretty Little Threats immediately had my attention. And now that I've finished, I'm already desperately anticipating the next release in this series.

I love a good hate to love romance and boy do these two fiery characters bring that trope to life.
Can’t keep your hands off me?” he asks.
“If you wake up one morning without your tongue, don’t be surprised.”
Dare laughs—like he thinks I’m joking, when I’m already planning how to do it. I glare at him. His lips press into a wider grin. I almost trip, but years of practice in heels and Dare’s hand on my waist keep me steady. That smile is disarming. Beautiful. Dangerous. “I like it when you threaten me.”
What? Is he insane?

The story of Dare and Rose was full of delicious banter, hate lust, and a marriage of convenience with a bit of bribery and blackmail thrown in.

Rose is the daughter of Dare's biggest adversary and to say that there is no love lost between these two, is a mild understatement. Dare is a cold and ruthless business man who is known as the Beast of NYC for good reasons. Rumors of murder and dark secrets circle around him.

Rose is a woman who is desperate for her father's approval. But when her father locks her into an arranged marriage with a man she despises, she realizes that her freedom was nothing more than a hopeful illusion. And the answer to her problem may be a deal with the devil himself.

If you're looking to dip your toes in the darker romance, this is a perfect gateway book. It's gritty and has plenty of darker themes but without going full black. Definitely morally gray and with plenty of suspense thrown in.

The writing was quick paced and I found myself easily enraptured by the story. I also really loved both characters; Rose may have grown up as the daughter of a rich businessman, but she's no naive or sheltered woman. There's a bite to her that I really enjoyed. Dare immediately had my attention because the man simply draws you in with his magnetism that just jumps off of the pages.

I devoured this book and loved the chemistry between Rose and Dare. I would have loved a bit more meat to the ending, because it seemed like Rose got over the shock of what she learned a bit too fast. But it definitely didn't take away from my enjoyment.

If you're looking for a super spicy hate to love romance with plenty of banter and all the chemistry, you need this book on your TBR!

Pretty Little Threats is the first book in Daria Quinn’s Princes of NYC series. I always enjoy discovering new authors to read and adding their books to my ever-growing library. This dark contemporary romance features some of my favorite tropes, making it hard to put down: billionaire romance, enemies-to-lovers, and the Touch Her and I’ll ☠️ You trope. The last one stands out, especially with the morally grey MMC Dare that Daria Quinn wrote in this book. He may initially come off as cold-hearted and hateful of the FMC, Rose, due to who her father is, but he is fiercely protective of her and won’t let anyone look at or touch her.

This book is all about Dare seeking revenge for what happened to his parents and Rose trying to seek approval from her father. But, Rose’s father breaks her trust when he insists she marry a man she doesn’t love, even though he promised never to force her into an arranged marriage. Determined to avoid this marriage, Rose finds herself unexpectedly wed to Dare Richardson, her father’s sworn enemy. The issue is Rose’s father isn’t happy about it, and he’ll do anything to break them apart, even if Rose initially is with Dare to find a way to take Dare down for her father. However, as she spends more time with Dare, she begins to realize that he may not be the villain her father warned her about.

I loved both Dare and Rose’s characters, especially when they were together. The way they battled back and forth in and out of the bedroom was as hot as anything. It was clear that they had undeniable chemistry. It just took Rose a little longer to realize that Dare was someone she could trust more than anyone else. Dare was also not someone to be messed with; he didn’t like anyone talking about or looking at ‘His Wife’ while he was married to Rose. I enjoyed it every single time he referred to Rose as ‘His Wife,’ even though she often gave him a hard time about it.

The storyline kept me intrigued when it came to what both Dare and Rose were trying to do. Dare is trying to get revenge on his parents, and Rose just wants to feel loved by someone, but she does find actual love with Dare in the end. The only issue I have is the ending felt a little rushed when Rose found out the truth, but other than that, I was hooked on reading the HEA of Rose and Dare. I look forward to reading more books by Daria Quinn, including this series.

Single/Dual POV: Dual POV.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s an interconnected standalone in the Princes of NYC series.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy reading an Enemies to Lovers storyline with a morally grey MMC, then check out Pretty Little Threats.

4.5 out of 5

"Okay, let's talk about 'Every Girl Deserves a Dare' because whew, this book was fire! I'm not kidding, I started reading it on my night shift and literally could not put it down. It's that addictive! The whole "enemy to enemy" vibe? Chef's kiss.

Rose is basically a pawn in her CEO dad's game. He's turned her into this "ice princess," suppressing her emotions and controlling her every move. No one sees the real Rose until Dare. And Dare? He hates her dad, and, initially, he hates Rose too. But then her dad announces she's being forced to marry this total sleazeball (who already tried to assault her!), and Rose is done. She's betrayed, she's desperate, and she does the only logical thing: she breaks into Dare's house and asks him to marry her. Things get spicy, he says no (at first, because he's a tease), and then everything goes completely sideways.

Long story short, she ends up having to defend herself against the sleazeball, and Dare helps her out... and then uses it as leverage (kind of) to get her to marry him. From there, it's a whirlwind of secrets, betrayals, lust, sass, and ultimately, a love story that'll have you screaming.

Seriously, the tension between Rose and Dare from the very first chapter is palpable. He's morally grey, tatted up, and has a dirty mouth, and she's a badass who can stand her ground but also melts for him. Their chemistry is insane. And Dare? He's obsessed with Rose, protective, attentive, and surprisingly sweet, even though he's supposed to be the "monster." I love him, okay? I'm Team Dare all the way.

Rose is amazing, but she's also a bit blind to how awful her dad is. She's clinging to this idea that he cares, even as he's manipulating her. My heart broke for her when she finally realized the truth. She deserves so much better. But she's also a total sunshine, and I love how Dare helps her see that and embrace her true self.

This book has everything. It's a dark, contemporary mafia romance with a bit of a "Beauty and the Beast" twist. There's suspense, there's spice (and I mean SPICE), and the banter is top-notch. It's an enemies-to-lovers story, but it's also about finding your strength and your chosen family. It's a wild ride, but it's so worth it. Just check the trigger warnings first, because it does deal with some heavy stuff. But trust me, this book ATE. I loved it, and I'm already dying for more from this world!"

thank you Daria Quinn for an e-ARC of 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔

when i saw that the author was going to write an arranged/forced marriage romance under a pen name, i couldn’t request an ARC fast enough. i have loved all their other books and i knew i would love this one as well.

Rose (Rosalynn) has spent her entire life being groomed to take over her father’s company and continue his legacy. Which includes finding ways to take down The Beast of NYC, also known as Dare (Darian). but when Rose’s father sets up an arranged marriage to a monster worse than The Beast, Rose needs to find a way out of the upcoming marriage. when Rose thinks she’s found a solution out of the marriage and to take down Dare at the same time, it begins the unraveling of everything she thought was true.

“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘧𝘦.”

Rose and Dare hate each other, which adds to their tension and banter. this a medium burn but once they get together, the spice is 🥵🔥 with a lot of hand necklaces 😏

Rose has been raised to be cold and methodical and to show no emotion. but Dare allows her to show all her emotions, including her vulnerable side. and while the marriage at first starts out as a forced marriage, it doesn’t stop Dare from being possessive and want to protect her from the minute he decides she’s his.

forced marriage trope has recently become one of my fav tropes and this book does it justice. it’s a true enemies to lovers where both sides are trying to take the other one down. but you see the progression and development of their relationship with each other and how their walls come down.

𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔 is the first book in the 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒀𝑪 series and sets up potential couples and storylines.

65% through, but I must say that Avery sure makes an impression.

Avery struts toward the door, her aura magnetic. Almost like she was meant to be on a stage. She pauses, glancing at me over her shoulder. “Don’t forget your thorns, okay? Roses are more than a pretty flower.”

Ummm, does she have a book? I might have just fallen in love.

—————————————————————————————

Anyway, onto this book… Rosalynn is her dads ultimate victim and for most of this book she’s sternly in denial of this fact.

Rosalyn a.k.a. Rose is on a mission to take down Darian Richardson all because her father says he’s evil. So she starts a journey of investigating and antagonizing him. One thing to know about Dare is that he isn’t one to back down.

When Rose and Dare have a confrontation she makes a vailed threat. It was in poor taste and so she makes it clear then next time they meet that she didn’t mean it. Things are far from settled between the two and it becomes tit for tat as the two fight for the upper hand.

Rose loses this battle almost from the start when she finds a man in her house. In an effort to escape this attempted rapist she uses household items to knock him out. Enraged and terrified she tries to slit his throat. Enter Dare with a helpful hand. Yeah, he literally helps Rose drag the knife against this guys throat. Then he’s even so kind as to have people who work for him dispose of the body.

Rose quickly realized her error when Dare points out that he’s got the murder weapon with her handprints on it.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, Dare finally agrees to marry her. Yeah, the marriage proposal was a whole thing. She wanted away from her arranged marriage to a dirt bag and Dare initially turned her down. Once the arranged fiancé is dead they proceed with a quick court house wedding.

Dare might hold a lot of the cards here seeing as he’s got the murder weapon, but he wins Rose over by being everything her dad said he wasn’t. For example: no one is going to disrespect his wife. A lesson her father learns right away.

I’ll stop here but let’s just say that Joseph Miller, her dad, is the bad guy. Hands down.

The side characters were ok. No one really drew me in except Avery but she was so very much mi or to the story.
