Pandora's Escape

Rate this book
A birthday trip with my bestie, a handsome stranger, and an escape room—what could go wrong?

One stranger turns into three and what started off as a game takes a wicked turn for the worst.

With death and desire hanging in the air, secrets explode in a shocking climax of violence and lust.

Obsession can drive people to extreme lengths.

Will we escape, or will our dark secrets keep us locked in forever? Or worse—will I surrender to the darkness rather than seek the light?

Welcome to your nightmare; escaping is only the beginning.

This book is a very dark MMFF why choose romantic suspense novella which means the heroine will never have to choose who to love. There is violence, questionable kinks, and lots of heat included. Please be sure to check the TWs first, your mental health comes before all else.

⛔️𝑅𝑒𝒶𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓉𝓇𝒾𝑔𝑔𝑒𝓇 𝓌𝒶𝓇𝓃𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈⛔️

Two best friends embark on a trip for Aurelia’s birthday. Stella being the more adventurous one wants to visit a scary escape room. Once inside the games begin, nothing goes to plan and they soon find themselves locked in cages. This is where the fun really begins…

It had some twists, a little predictability, smut, why choose, secrets and lies, bl00d and gore but all in all a good Halloween read 🎃

It’s spooky month which means it’s time for spooky dark romance!! Truly this is the best time of the year in my opinion.
The writing was super disjointed who h made me unable to easily follow the majority of the story. As a result I could hardly enjoy the parts I was able to decipher. I’m all for a super twisty book normally, but with the writing being so hard to follow this nailed the coffin shut for me.
I got super excited about the trigger list in the beginning, but none of it played up to its hype. The scenes felt rushed and written too plainly. I constantly wanted to have more depth to the characters even amongst all the plot twists. It felt like there a switch between all the characters, none of the emotions matched up in pace of intensity. It’s like they because entirely new people every chapter. Though I absolutely adore X!!! He was the absolute redeeming quality for the entire novella.

5-⭐️ 3-🌶️

This has so many moving parts as a quick read.
But they moved so well, the dual pov’s between everyone was well done and was amazing for getting everyone’s perspectives on the night of the escape room.

Once the spice hits, holy shit it HITS.

4 foster kids are suffering in hell find their escape,
But one is caught before they can all escape.

10 years later 3 of the kids are running an escape room with other activities thrown into the mix (because what escape room doesn’t have other motives?!)

Aurelia is dragged on a trip with her friend and finds herself in the mix with all these forgotten faces.

If you love dark f’ed up reads that burn fast this is going to be an amazing Halloween/ spooky season read

I had the pleasure of being an alpha reader for Mel. She is a lovely person to work with and her books are some of my favorites. This one lived up to every hope and dream. It is a fantastic Halloweenish read. The spice is spicy. If you like escape rooms and why choose them this book will be perfect for you. I have now read it twice and would enjoy it just as much if not more if I read it again.

【English review; Italiano ⬇️】
Pandora’s Espace is an erotic horror novella featuring a HEA and a romantic side, which makes the reading both spookily sweet and thrilling.

I believe this novella strikes the perfect balance between heat and madness, blood and attraction—at least, it's the perfect balance for me.

The main characters are all morally grey, and the inclusion of their varying POVs allows you to see through their actions, understand their motivations, and glimpse their true intentions.

It all begins with the perfect distraction: a fire ignites in the foster home where four orphans have come together to form what seems like the ideal family. However, this family is far from perfect, with a drunken, abusive father who attempts to force a young girl into a horrific situation.

Three of the children manage to escape the house together, while the fourth child goes missing.

Years later, a girl crosses paths with the trio. However, her fate proves to be unfortunate. Just like her entire life, which has been spent trying to make her foster father happy, prioritizing his career and friend choices over her own dreams and decisions, and attempting to escape the moments when he touches her inappropriately.

She can only rely on her best friend, Stella, who tries to whisk her away from her miserable life for a couple of days to celebrate her birthday.

Little do they know, their holiday will turn into a real-life nightmare—at least for one of them.

The novella completely invested me in the MCs' actions, the trials they faced, and the games they had to play. The intense, steamy punishments they endured and the dark, bloody fates that befell some of them kept me on the edge of my seat.

Everything unfolded quickly and was overwhelming, but I never felt uncomfortable with the events. I believe this is because there was always a human element to their thoughts, cravings, and fears. That depth is what makes it a standout novella. The romantic aspect was consistently present, albeit concealed beneath layers of past secrets.

Make sure to read the TWs carefully, as you’ll encounter elements like gunplay, kidnapping, and dub/con. If that doesn't deter you, then this novella is for you!

【Recensione italiana】

It definitley had delicious spice and the horror of it was enticing. But it just didn't really do anything for me. It seemed all over the place, but if you like escape rooms, masked men, WLW, crazies, and mute guys then 100% read this book.

😊:
-I liked the details and the hints with each different escape room, it made it feel like you were also there trying to figure out the puzzle. It emersed you into the story.
-I loved the twist with Stella, I was not ready for that but it definitley had me hooked to find out more.
-Seeing the details linking to Aurelia's past, made me feel like it was a puzzle inside of a puzzle.
-The diversity in race, gender, sexuality, etc.
-The spice. 🤤

🤨:
-It felt a bit off to me with Raven's sexuality, but I didn't knock off stars for that due to not knowing much about the religion. I absolutely loved Raven's character though. Girl boss! 🙏
-I would've liked a bit more of an explanation on why Aurelia was the way she was. Was she born with a dark mind, or was it the abuse that made her like that?

Quotes:
-“A lady never waits for a man to finish, unless he knows how to worship you and your body like a temple. Don’t forget it.”
-Get a grip, girl. He is your captor, not one of your book boyfriends.
-Aurelia is a mid-sized goddess with curves that I want to sink my teeth into until she screams for mercy.

Tropes:
-Why choose
-Found family
-Masked MMC's
-Escape room
-Halloween vibes
-☠️/🩸 k!nk

Oh. My. God.
I legit couldn't get enough of this book. Escape rooms are still a decently new experience for me and now...I don't think I'll ever look at them the same way again. In a seriously good way.
You're thrown into an intense moment right from the start for four young souls. You've got something serious going down, an event that leads to even more chaos. That night changes things for them in different ways.
There was definitely an air of mystery on what happened to one of them when there's the time jump, but it was done extremely well. It seems like a simple vacation with two close friends, one trying to help the other de-stress. What better way to do that than to take said stressed friend to an escape room??
Y'all...this book just sucked me in right from the start. I couldn't get enough of it and I'm super sad that I'm done. You've got intense moments of extreme emotion, parts where you're wondering what is going on (but having a blast sitting there on the sidelines with some popcorn). There are even some steamy moments that really had me fanning myself. The end of the book was the icing on an extremely well baked cake.
Mel Reilly did a FANTASTIC job with this book. It was the first piece that I've read by her and I'll definitely say that it WON'T be the last. She's got me hooked.
If you want a dark, why choose romance with an escape room twist (& some hardcore secrets!), I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!!!

Omg!! This novella was freaking fantastic!! I loved the “escape” room concept to this and how many twists and turns were taken. The prologue to this novella instantly had me invested and heartbroken for Marcellus, Xavian and Dalia!!! It may have made me tear up a little bit, but seeing them not back down and make an oath to find their missing link was so perfect.

I also loved that our main FMC, Aurelia had no clue that her best friend was not who she said she was.
Seeing her fight an inner battle of not feeling good enough the entire time and watching Marcel, X and Raven build her up before telling her who she really was made this story so phenomenal. Also, I loved that they let her get her much deserved revenge.

This story was spicy and heart racing and definitely a new take on why choose!!! It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish and I love how they all found their happy ending!!!

OH MY GODDDD! I was NOT expecting so many things in this book. I am FULLY and ENTIRELY so in love lmao. My jaw dropped so many times from the plot twists, I was legit thrown off like wait what?! OMG 😂. It was seriously so suspenseful I could NOT put the book down. I was drawn in right from the beginning. For a novella this was so plot packed and equally SO VERY SPICY. And let me tell you the spice was SPICINGGGG. I love a chosen family relationship type of a book and the connection and deep rooted love they all have for each other is absolute perfection. The chemistry is so freaking good. I’m honestly shocked this is Mel’s first MMFF book cause it was hot af 🥵. I loved all the unhinged dark af gore. This is really the perfect Halloween vibe book and I 10/10 recommend if you’re looking for that vibe in a short read. ** please check the trigger warnings**

I have been in love with this story since I had the pleasure of beta reading it!

I WAS HOOKED FROM THE VERY FIRST SENTENCE.

To be a novella, this baby Is PLOT heavy and I loved every single minute of it. Mel Reilly’s writing style in this story adds an added layer of suspense to the story. The pacing was really well written and when the characters are panicking, you will be, too!
I’ll be honest, with Mel’s awesome foreshadowing elements sprinkled throughout, I could see the plot twist in the end coming. But that’s where she gets you! Your so busy thinking you’ve figured It all out that you don’t even see the big shocker coming!!

Not to mention the SPICE! 🥵🤭

Xavier, Marcellus, Raven, Auriela?
Why Choose when you don’t have to?😉

Just kidding...give me Marcellus or give me death.

Definitely add this one to your TBR!

This is one wild read. I mean this in the best way possible. It is dark and steamy at the same time. Love the MMFF combo. The only thing I would have liked was to see the escape room aspect expanded a little longer. However, I still really enjoyed this novella and will be checking out more books by this author.

Stella and Aurelia are best friends, who go to an escape room together. I am a fan of escape rooms. I have watched every movie edition that features escape rooms as the plot. This is the type of escape room that you don't want to find yourself trapped in. Stella and Aurelia soon discover this fact.

Xavian, Marcel, Raven are great. Love a strong FMC. That is what Raven is. Xavian is the silent type. Yet, it is the silent ones that you do need to watch out for. I like the quietness that he brought to the balance of this group.

Wow, just wow. This little novella is jam-packed with everything and more. It starts off on a wild story about a group of foster kiddos who end up building such a strong bond between each other. And then something happens, and the story just explodes!

You'll go through an escape room, queue the book title 😉 which ends up unraveling soooo freaking much more. I mean the twists and turns and what the heck moments are outstanding! The spice...woah hold the phone because I needed a breath of fresh air.

These characters are so awesome, and I seriously loved every moment of this story. I was absolutely hooked from the very first page and couldn't put it down! I needed to find out what happened next and couldn't waste a second without knowing, lol.

I loved this one so much that I wouldn't complain if we got more from them again!!

This was so good it’s a dark very spicy why choose novella about Aurelia who gets talked into going on a birthday trip with best friend. Everything seems to be going well when on their last day they meet a handsome stranger who suggests they check out his friend’s escape room leading her to people from her past who she thought she’d never see again and reveals a dangerous plot against her from the people closest to her. I loved all the sexual tension and chemistry between them. I enjoyed Aurelia she’s a fighter, sweet and feisty with a touch of darkness and has been searching for family like she had she was little. I absolutely loved Raven and the guys they were perfectly unhinged, overcame a lot of trauma from their pasts with revenge and I loved learning how far they were willing to go to find their missing friend. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.

Okay Hear me out and read the whole review. So lemme take you through my journey of reading this.
I read the prologue and I'm down. Things are moving fast. I'm invested in the characters.
I start the first chapter and I'm like okay, interesting.
I kept moving through and started wondering, wait, WTF is going on".
I started getting worried that I might DNF cause I was still like WTF is happening. Then as I was almost about to put it down, answers started coming in hot and then the spice hit. And then all was brought to light and I was happy I didn't put it down.
It's a twisty turny ride in only like 150 pages. The characters are interesting. The spice is hot. B!tches who should get theirs - get theirs! Xavian was super 🥵🥵

Holy moly, what a book! 🔥

I went into this one blind and absolutely do not regret it. It was by far the spiciest book I've ever read, and I devoured it in a single sitting. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down 😍.

This was a short, spicy, and suspenseful read that hooked me from page one and kept me deeply invested. As I read more, it just kept getting hotter 🔥. I loved every daring part of it, especially when the spice kicked in—it took things to another level. Marcel, Xavian, and Raven together were amazing, and when Aurelia joined them, it was perfect. What started as a game in Pandora's Escape turned into something spicy, dark, and thrilling.

This is a very very dark book, so please be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in.

This was wild in the best way possible!! This is a quick and easy read. And the spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ When Aurelia and her best friend Stella go to an escape room for a night out, they didn’t expect to meet 2 men and a woman. All three of them love to play games and have fun with the girls. There’s a couple twists and secrets that come out that had me gasping with my jaw on the floor! Aurelia is the people pleaser, Raven is the game master, Marcel is the impulsive one, and Xavian is the mysterious one. I cannot pick a favorite but together they make an amazing group 🤭

Pandora's Escape by Mel Reilly is a dark why choose romantic suspense novella.

This is the first book of Mel's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn’t wait to see how it was all going to play out. The chemistry between Xavian, Aurelia, Marcellus, and Raven was off the charts. I loved getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a spicy and gory Halloween novella to get you in the holiday spirit. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

To be honest, I really didn't think I would like this book but I wanted to give it a shot. I can say now, I was pleasantly surprised. I was pretty hooked into it right from the epilogue, it just sucked me in and I had to know where each of the MC’s ended up from there.
I did like the escape room and the part played by the one who got them to actually go in and try it out. I won't say much more about it because I don't want to say too much about the story.
I liked the storyline, characters and the tension that built with each chapter. I can see this author making more good books from here for sure and I will be on the lookout for more of her work in the future, 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐’s.

“Shatter me until I’m nothing but yours, haunt me until I can feel the echo of your soul in mine.”

This was such an amazing read! It is a shorter read but there are sooo many twists and turns and SPICE to help you rip right through this! The book is centered around Aurelia and her friend Stella who decide to hit up an escape room while in an unfamiliar small town on vacation for Aurelia’s birthday. This escape room turns out to be their absolute worst nightmare! Again, this is a shorter book so going into much more opens the door for spoilers so I will just say this is not one you want to miss! This is a must for any Halloween and horror lovers out there!

For being a Novella, I am shocked by how well each character stood out to me. This was a fast paced, instant Stockholm Syndrome experience that I didn’t want to end.
As someone who loves escape rooms, I devoured this in one sitting. Starts with 4 foster kids who are stuck in a bad situation but have a plan of escape. One night ruins everything and one girl gets separated from the group. Lo and behold we find her again. The spice of this whole book is fantastically delicious and will make you a puddle on the floor.
The twists and turns that occur in the escape room have you questioning everything. Who is the bad guy or girl? Go find out!
This is a must read for Halloween. 🎃

Masked men, plot twists, a sexy and bloody escape room, what else can you ask for?
Not going to lie: I wouldn't mind being stuck with the Reapers. Especially considering all the spicy fun they have.
That twist was an escape room all of its own. All the clues were there but I still didn't see coming and yet it made total sense.
All the characters have layers to them. The levels of trauma each have suffered bonding them together is quite well done.
Two guys, two girls; all kinds of fun; a great little spooky season novella.
