If you do not read Daisy, Plucked you are severely missing out.

If it takes more to convince you to read this book other than the description of “A sapphic, modern retelling of Hamlet,” then let me be the one to convince you.

It’s an undeniable fact that modern twists of Shakespearean classics lead to amazing stories that you will never forget about. Move over 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, and Anyone But You — Daisy, Plucked is here and ready to create new waves.

Daisy, Plucked is the modern day Ophelia’s story that nobody quite asked for, but everyone needs. Daisy, Plucked is a coming of age story that tackles feelings of grief, familial trauma, insecurity, and self-realization. With a strategically-paced plot filled with vivid descriptions and characters that you adore deeply before the first chapter is over, this book is one that you quite simply can’t put down.

C.E. Witherow’s debut novel is a love letter not only to the Shakespearean classic, but to New York and heartache as well. Not only is it a love story, it’s a grief story, it’s a murder mystery— it’s the story of beating hearts navigating life and death and everything between.

Daisy and Hana are characters that once you meet them, you will never forget them. Both characters are so raw and lived-in that you find yourself understanding them and making excuses for their flaws. This novel has a heartbeat and was created with such attention to intricate details that once you have reached the last page, you find yourself wanting to go backwards and read it all over again.

This story deserves to be in every sapphic’s book pile. It is an ode to love, loss, and life itself. This book will live on forever to me as one of the best sapphic novels I have ever had the pleasure of reading. And when you read this, you will feel the exact same way.

What a young, promising author we have in C.E. Witherow. This is a bout a teen girl who is simply trying to live her young life like a normal adolescent, but she is thrust into a world of mystery and grief. This is a self-published author, and I will admit, there were a few small things that need to be cleaned up. However, that does not, in any way, take away from this FABULOUS story. If you are from Rochester or anywhere in western New York State, you'll appreciate all the local references! Aside from that, this young writer does a fantastic job of delving deeply into lots of conflicting human emotions and trauma. I was really impressed with that.

As someone who loved Ophelia as a teen, this book was definitely what I needed. I gobbled this up in a weekend! The ghostly story is a perfect vibe for the autumn season, too! CE has a wonderful writing style that really hooks a reader, and the pacing of this story is fantastic. This book does a wonderful job at reflecting young, queer relationships and the mystery element was fascinating to follow along with. And as a bi person, I love openly bi characters! Overall, this is a wonderful debut, and I can't wait to see what CE comes out with next!

What a debut from the author!! There’s something so authentic and real about this book that sucked me in from the very first page. It’s beautifully written, the characters complex and the relationships between them even more so. I’m not super well versed in Shakespeare, but I’d imagine anyone who is would find even more Easter eggs within the story that add yet another layer of depth. To anyone who is intrigued by the plot - I promise you won’t be disappointed. Check this one out!!!
