A woman in need of safe passage.

Hitchhiking from Nevada to Texas on my own at nineteen years old and nearly nine months pregnant to reunite with my dad is terrifying, especially after being attacked by a man who wants me to pay for my ride—and not with money. I barely manage to fight him off when he gets spooked after an eighteen-wheeler pulls into the truck stop parking lot, and he takes off with half of my luggage in the back seat.

Freezing cold, out of money, and scared of being attacked again, I watch and wait for the truck driver to go into the convenience store, then sneak inside his unlocked eighteen-wheeler. For the first time in a week, I feel a sliver of safety and curl up into a small ball, hoping the driver won’t find me hiding behind his seat when he comes back.

A trucker who vows to help her.

I confront the person who broke into my truck, and the burn that’s been building in my chest for the last few days finally eases when I realize it’s a young woman—a heavily pregnant young woman—who needs safe passage to my home state of Texas. Angry at her father for making his daughter hitchhike alone across four states in her condition, I vow to take care of her until they’re reunited.

Except, as soon as we get to Texas, I find out she’s been hiding her labor contractions, and there’s no time to take her to her dad’s apartment. At the hospital, she begs me to stay, afraid of giving birth all alone, and neither of us corrects the staff who think I’m the baby’s father. After helping her throughout her labor and watching her give birth, it’s a battle to remind myself…

She is not my woman.

Her daughter is not my baby.

But if I have my way, they will be.

Sometimes I find myself craving a little more spice than substance, and this one definitely delivers! 🤭

On to the story: Goldie's (19) nine months pregnant, and her craptastic ex has no desire to be involved with her or the baby. So she decided to catch a ride to Texas to stay temporarily with her dad. On her first hitchhike, she got picked up by a total jerk who wanted a head as payment, so she escaped him and ended up sneaking into Davis' (34) truck instead. 🫣

It took him awhile before figuring out he had a passenger with him. When they confronted, she was all ready to fight him, thinking he was also a bad guy, but in the end, they kind of worked things out, and he agreed to give her a ride to her drop-off location.

But her baby arrived a bit sooner than she thought, and Davis went to the hospital with her. He stayed by Goldie's side while she was giving birth and helped her with everything in between at the hospital.

After they left the hospital, they headed over to her dad's place. They discovered it's a total mess, and her dad didn't have a room for her and the baby. So, Davis ended up bringing Goldie and baby Lily over to his house. 😅

I guess we all know where this is headed with the whole forced proximity and mutual attraction thing. 🤭

There's a bit of back and forth in the first half on Davis' side since Goldie's way too young for him and just had a baby. There were moments when they would act on their attraction and do some stuff, but then he'd back off and say sorry for it. But love is love, and even though he tried to resist, it's just a game you can't really win. 😄

There was a bit of suspense thrown into the plot, but honestly, I feel like that's just around 10% of the whole story. It was mostly about their home life, budding relationship, and family time with baby Lily.

All in all, it was a nice palate cleanser. I'm looking for something light to dive into, and this is just the right book for my current mood. I really enjoy the epilogue and that it shows the MCs still blissfully in love years later. It's also adorable to see the book 1 MCs' kid, William, already being protective and possessive with Lily. I know they're really young, but it's just so cute! 🤭

Anyway, I had fun with it, and this would be good for passing some time.

This is not what I thought I would be getting...

I think the types of books the author wants to write are too outside the norm (huge age gaps, 18/19 year old girls, somno, etc..) and so she's trying very hard to balance that or maybe justify it in a way that would shut the haters and the "this is so toxic" weirdos that don't like age gap yet pick them up only to give it one star and complain about how sick they are.

I hear you, May Alder, the haters suck.

But this is not the solution.

Despite the bigger age gap, Runaway Whirlwind: Big Boys of Berenson Trucking does a fantastic job of writing a Dom daddy with a teddy bear interior.

You'd think with a heroine a year older and a hero five years younger, this would be easier, but everything in the characterization of the MCs went haywire.

Daddy is a subgenre of a Dom/sub relation. Which means that when you get a weepy, runaway, gets punched like ten times hero, he loses his Dom status, therefore his Daddy's as well. It's not just about yelling the name in the middle of sex, it's about handing over control.

If Daddy's there, I don't have to make any decisions, I don't have to think about responsibilities. The hero does the opposite by adding mental struggles to an already mentally depleted heroine.

Davis, is so beta, he's practically a sub. (And I use the 'beta' term as we know it in fiction, there's no such thing irl) He's insecure in a bad way. Wyatt was insecure about his body because it's what he's internalized about society. Why's Davis so trembly and cowardly? What's his reason?

Marigold, or Goldie, is a pregnant, homeless, broke 19 year old teen. You really can't get more vulnerable than that. But to show she's no weakling, she not only slaps, kicks and punches the hero several times throughout the book, she's a bit of a shrew. She growls and scratches and harrumphs, even though she's living rent free with the hero's money for weeks. She even acknowledges it at some point.

I feel so stupid getting upset when he’s been so generous in letting us stay here rent- free, paying for our groceries and diapers. We have heat and water, a roof over our heads, and warm beds, and I didn’t have to do a thing to earn any of it.

I'm not saying she can't have a voice, but does her voice have to be so blind to her circumstances? So ungrateful?

This is what I think happened:

The author created such a vulnerable heroine, there was just no angle where he wasn't preying on a defenseless girl.

To compensates, she makes the MMC a weaker, harmless hero. But where that could've worked in another story, it fails here because of the Daddy Dom.

On the other hand, because her position is so precarious, the author overcompensates with a shrilly, aggressive heroine. It misses the mark because of that very precarious position. A girl with good survival instincts knows it's not a good idea to slap, kick or punch the hand that feeds you... and clothes you, and shelters you... AND YOUR NEWBORN INFANT. She didn't come off as strong (as I think the author wanted) just very spoiled, clueless and ungrateful.

I had an angrier tirade in my mind, but seeing as I'm the first review (why? where are all the positive ARC reviews??) I went another way. It seems my soulless, shriveled heart does have a bit of chivalry left and I took what I'm hoping is the constructive criticism route instead of my usual 'scream at the void' rant.

All of that said, if my review is giving you pause and don't know if you should read this, remember that we all have different views and opinions and what wasn't for me might be for you. Maybe you've read the last alphahole that broke the kindle's back or you're sick of dark romance.

My rating would be 2 ★ but, again first review.... If this gets anymore maybe I'll update it. For now, I've decided to leave it blank.

I didn't love this one as much as I thought I would, but I still had fun with it. I think my biggest thing was that I just kept comparing this book to the previous one:

I will always wholeheartedly love Dolly and Wyatt. They were the perfect blend of everything and are such a good example of the tropes included in their story done right.

When comparing Goldie and Davis to them, they just didn't do it for me. Their dynamic felt a bit off- I just got frustrated with the push and pull, and how many of their interactions were approached.

The way that Goldie treated Davis didn't make much sense to me, especially at the start. Considering he was helping her with literally no strings attached, for her to speak/treat him in the way that she did? It didn't feel great to read about it continuously- a lot of things in this story did drag for me.

There were also a lot of external factors that played into their relationship that made it hard to just appreciate them (ie. with the h's father, the child's grandma and dad, the other couples etc.). It just overcomplicated this a lot.

That's why my favourite parts of this book were the calmer more domestic moments, because they highlighted the actual romance itself.

To add onto that, I kind of wish that the smut scenes were less frequent (which is wild coming from me), but I say this because they really overshadowed any emotional scene that was happening 😭. Whenever there was a big milestone or important conversation that had to take place/ was happening, they were just quickly brushed to the side.

Overall, this one wasn't for me, however I still enjoyed it 💀😭? I'm just a bit conflicted because I LOVE the way that MA writes, but I just don't think this situation and how it played out worked entirely.

So a 3 stars for me in a general sense- I liked it but I can also see a lot of things that I wasn't too big on (I loved the epilogue though 🥹).

-=-

I'm super excited though for the next books in this series: I'm manifesting that it's Russel and Layla - I have such a good feeling about them 🙈.

Super cute!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: instalove
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

This was super sweet and super spicy. Definitely lighter on plot, which is what I was looking for 😉. I did think it was probably a bit longer than it needed to be and I was skimming a bit at the end. But overall, a definite recommend and I will certainly be looking to read more of her books in the future!

I think something was missing from this one. It didn't exactly get me like the first book did. I think this review captured the missing essence better than I could.

All in all, I still enjoyed it, a lil bit less but it was pretty damn entertaining than anything I could pick up right now. As a filler read, it did its job fantastically.

I read this under the ideal reading conditions of having a strong bourbon and soda on a long flight, and reading it from start to finish with no distractions. Alder prefaces this book with an author's note that basically is like, I know these people and what happens in this book is absolutely bonkers and not realistic, just go with it. This is the right mindset for these books, otherwise you have the sort of reaction I had to Castaway Whirlwind which was basically like [sputters in outrage] the entire time.

Plot? Goldie is hitchhiking while nine months pregnant, sneaks into a truck and is discovered by the driver Davis, who imprints on her like he is a baby bird and immediately is like, sure, let me put myself down as the baby's father in the hospital and get *real* familiar with you during the birth and then bring you home to live in my house, and yada yada yada six weeks later we get married. There's some plot (some of it really crazy and doesn't make legal sense), and a set piece of kidnapping that was completely over the top. Just go with it.

OK listen. No mindset can properly prepare for the extent to which the characters all "Eh" [shrug emoji] with tampering with birth control, or start activities while the other is sleeping, or resort to violence during basic conflicts (her to him). It's NOT GREAT. Alder's age gaps are a little too big even for me, an age gap agnostic, and honestly, I literally never thought I would say this, but possibly there are too many intimate scenes. Like calm down people. Primal play during a nice dinner with friends? Physical chastisement all the time for myriad reasons? I'm trying to just go with it! I promise!

My only main complaint is that while Alder does have characters say on page that terminating an unwanted pregnancy that would (and does) drastically derail a person's life is of course the choice of the pregnant person, it is framed solidly as the villain's choice, and characters are thanked and praised multiple times for not doing so. I know her thing is breeding and age and experience gap but I get wistful for how young these girls are, and how they are firmly ensconced they are in their no-education required jobs and reliant on their (much older) men for support. BUT, Alder and I approach the world from different places.

She's a fun author, and obviously even though her books sometimes drive me crazy must I enjoy them, because I keep reading them.

I just finished reading Whirlwind Stowaway(Big Boys of Berenson Trucking Book #2) is a fantastic book!!!! All about Marigold Lewis a pregnant teen who is nineteen years old who was attacked by a guy who gave her a ride, because he wanted payment for said ride, not with money but with my body. I fought him off, when an eighteen wheeler pulled into the truck stop, it scared him and he drove off, taking all my luggage, leaving me only with my backpack. Goldie waited in the bushes the entire night waiting for the trucker to leave his cab. Once he did she hauled herself up into his passenger seat and climbed in the back to stowaway. Davis Freeman is thirty-four years old and can’t wait to get back to Texas, not that anybody is waiting for him, but this long haul driving across country is extremely tiering. When he attempts to leave the rest stop a car comes careening into the service area and cuts him off attempting to get to the gas pumps, he slams the brakes on and Goldie is tossed around like a sack of potatoes and that’s how he discovers he has a stowaway. He’s pissed, but once she explains herself he takes pity on her, brings her into the store, so she can use the restroom, buys enough food and snacks and an oversized sweatshirt that says New Mexico on it. It covers her entire body and keeps her warm. They eat in his truck and he makes sure she’s not going to rob him or hurt him in his sleep, she says I’m grateful for all you’ve done I just need safe passage to Texas, my dad lives in Austin. Davis agrees to keep her & the baby safe and will get her to her dad’s. When they hit Texas it’s clear that she’s in distress, so he drops the truck off and tells Russell his boss he’ll be back after he gets her to the hospital. Read about Goldie & Davis as he helps her in her hour of need, and sticks around to help her bring a new life into this world. There are a ton of characters that bring this story to life. Lots of emotion and plenty of toe curling does occur!! Definite Read!!! Can’t wait to read book 3!!!!

daddy/ age gap/ breeding/ preg

This was refreshing and too cute honestly

Big and burly H whose a truck driver
Got a backbone but still submissive PREG h (yep she’s preg when we meet her!)

This has:
-age gap just like book one
-a quick preg bc our girl is ready to bust so we actually get lot of the birth moment and after birth moments which I always feel like we miss in other books.
-push and pull. Davis is tryna be protective and fights his feelings for our h and she also has some trust issues and of course bc they can’t communicate clearly we get blurred lines, hurt feelings and miscommunication 😝 but I loved it
-spicy with the steammm
-preg belly rubs
-birth scene
-lactation scene 👅 🥛
-little licky licky with some 🩸
-small town sweetness
-newborn things including cute daddy stuff
-daddy k!nk but it’s just spankings and calling him daddy so if you like light daddy this is for you
-breeding it’s not super prominent but he is all for her having all his kids
-obsession but in a cute small town way lol
-def possessive moments
-keeping her safe
-this book has funny little moments that has me laughing out loud while reading lol
-total stand alone
-HEA with a good epilogue

This author is new to me- I did read book 1 and enjoyed it and I’ll be back to read the next anddd I’m gonna go and look and see if she’s written anything else honestly. This did it for me and I really enjoyed reading it.

Clearly I loved this book given I have 30-some highlights 😂....to be fair, May Alder is one of my new fave authors! I will read anything and everything she writes! Was all of this book totally "believable" ?? -not really...but was it the perfect combo of sweet and spicy and swoon-worthy romance? Yes, yes it was!
Marigold - "Goldie" - is a pregnant teen who is trying to make it from Nevada to Texas to live with her dad (who is a "recovering" addict) since she has no one else. Davis is a trucker who is also all alone in the world (after losing both his parents) so he spends his life trucking long-haul and being on the road for most of his life. When Goldie tries to "hitch" a ride by hiding in his rig, both of their lives change drastically!

4.5 ⭐️

This series has somehow become a quick favourite because it’s just fun to read, the spice is nice and it has all the tropes I love. Obviously, some kind of suspended belief is necessary which I’m totally fine with but the one thing that kind of deducted the .5 ⭐️ for me is the fact that I couldn’t quite understand the back and forth between Goldie and Davis. Like I genuinely do not know where that came from, what the reasons were and how it was suddenly resolved in the end? Anyway, I devoured this in one night and I cannot wait for the next part (fingers crossed that it’s going to be about Russell and Layla 🤞)

I really enjoyed the first one so when i saw this one i was eager to start ... I read some review and got scared but ultimately decided to read anyway.
At first i was like "oo it's okay i'ma actually enjoying it" and then "WTF just happened" and then "i just want it to stop"
That's pretty much the 3 emotions i had, and i skipped a fair bit after 50% because i didn't like neither of them, the story was all over the place, it was "heavier" and more dramatic than i expected and it wasn't even a bit hot like i hoped.

I'm curious about the other potential couples but i'm a bit afraid now to see how the story is going to be ... We'll see ^^

“Stowaway Whirlwind” is the story of Marigold and Davis.

Our 19 year old pregnant heroine hides herself in the older hero’s truck to escape a desperate situation. He decides to help her out, and she ends up delivering her child. Mutual attraction develops, and so does the pushing away.

The book had loads of dd/lg elements but not done right, there was loads of unnecessary drama and the characters spent way too much time circling around each other and then exchanging bodily fluids than having meaningful conversations. Also was way too long for the plot.

Ok I guess

1.5/5 This would normally check a lot of boxes for me, but I think Davis, the MMC, was too much of a whiny punk to make the whole Daddy Dom thing work here. Skimmed about the last 55% of this. Overall, a bit of a disappointment since I enjoyed the previous book in this series. Side note - the fact that FMC’s name was “Goldie” really annoyed the crap out of me, and honestly she was kind of a whiny punk too.

Dirty roads, dirtier mouths, and one hell of a ride…Stowaway Whirlwind is the kind of filthy, fast-paced romance that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. When a tough, no-nonsense trucker finds an unexpected (and very tempting) stowaway hiding in his rig, sparks will fly! Instant chemistry. Delicious tension. And so much steam!

This book was raw, gritty, and sinfully satisfying. May Alder delivers the kind of unfiltered heat I’ve come to expect when I open one of her books.

This was giving Jessa Kane levels of unhinged, lol. So much somno, breeding and daddy kink. Davis was all-in pretty much immediately, which is my preferred type of MMC in an unhinged romance. The post-pregnancy stuff seemed completely unrealistic, but it was acknowledge in the author’s note so I gave that a pass.

My brain capacity shrinks a little when travelling, so this was the perfect airplane read (but maybe angle it away from wandering eyes 🤣).

This one followed the trend—suspension of belief required, but honestly? I was so here for it. Fast-burn insta-love at its finest.

Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this book more than the first, which isn’t something I say often. Usually, series peak in book one and then start to fizzle out, but not here! I loved getting to know the Granny’s Girls better this time (more on that in a sec because I am so excited for the next book!). Plus, we got more Wyatt and Dolly content, which I really enjoyed, especially in the second half of the book.

Now, onto the side characters....

I have to admit… I am 1,000% here for Layla and Russell. We got to see glimpses of their story, and Oh. My. God. I’m obsessed. I need to know how they started, how they end up together—just everything. There’s something magical about watching two characters fall in love from another character’s POV, and I adore series where each book focuses on a new pairing but still keeps the whole group in the mix. It’s like a warm hug for my soul, and with the way the world is right now, I need that. So seeing glimpses of them, their struggle, and how much they're very obviously into each other? Yes, please. Where do I sign up. Extra bonus points about how grumpy and in denial Russel is I could actually cry.

Naturally, I immediately stalked the author on Instagram for more info (and yes, Layla and Russell are next!).

Anyway, back to Goldie and Davis—their story requires a lot of disbelief suspension. Things escalate fast, and the insta-love is intense to the point where I sometimes struggled to buy into it. But honestly? They seemed aware of how wild they were acting, and I weirdly appreciated that. Some moments felt unintentionally hilarious (not sure if that was the author’s intention, but it worked for me).

🔥 Now for the spice…

Compared to Runaway Whirlwind, this one didn’t feel as spicy—even though the content was still pretty intense. The tension just wasn’t quite as sharp. That said, it still brought the heat:

✔️ Primal play (that forest scene? Yes, please.)
✔️ Butt play (absolutely here for it).
✔️ Daddy k!nk (a May Alder staple, and still going strong).

I also loved the added humor with The Rules—it had me cracking up. Particularly Rule #2.

Overall, this was a definite improvement from Runaway Whirlwind, but I still loved Guardian’s Angel a bit more. If the trend continues—and I am 1,000% manifesting it—then Castaway Whirlwind with Layla and Russell is going to be on fire, and I cannot wait.

ITA/ENG REVIEW

ITA

VOTO: 4.5/5

ENG
If you're looking for an age-gap, single mom, small town romance where a truck driver falls in love for the pregnant hitchhiker, then this is the book for you!

BLURB
Davis travels in his truck doing his job to forget his loneliness. Until he finds a hidden passenger, the young, heavily pregnant Goldie. She's desperate and needs help, when Davis suddently becomes her protector, her baby daddy and lover. While their sweet chemistry grows stronger, Goldie's dangerous past is coming closer.

I love each and everyone of May Alder's books. They're sweet stories full of spice, overly possessive/obsessive/protective main male characters, who develop an instalove, instalust for their female counterparts. Can't wait for the other volumes of the series!

my tagged shelves can be spoilers

3.5⭐️ (originally rounded up to 4 but then I sat with it for a day and realized I needed to round down.)

Ok so I liked this book but I also didn’t love the MMC. It’s the classic age gap, he helps her when in need, insta love/lust romance. But didn’t hit for me.

Davis finds a stowaway in his truck while on the road and she happens to be 9mos pregnant and 19yo. Davis feels very drawn to Goldie immediately and has a heavy protectiveness towards her. At first I liked him a lot and really loved how he stood up for her and wanted to make sure she was safe and cared for.

BUT I wasn’t a fan of how he acted a lot of the time once living together. I’m usually good with breeding kink (love it most times actually) and even bc tampering when done well. Unfortunately don’t think either of those were done well here. It felt way too predatory (funny coming from someone who’s read kidnapping, big age gap, and dark taboo romance I know but still).

The way Davis kept doing things without listening to or talking to her got on my nerve that by the end I was 50/50 on like their HEA vs wanting her to take her kid and run. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for Goldie — I liked her and liked when she stood up to Davis and made it clear he wasn’t the boss of her (unfortunately that never really lasts).

The other does list in the forward that this is unrealistic for a young woman who just gave birth and lists out the cw/tw you can expect. So I’m not knocking it for the content really, just how it felt to me.

Tropes/CW:
•age gap (19/34)
•insta love/lust
•forced proximity
•strangers to lovers
•book 2 (standalones)
•pregnant fmc (not the mmc’s)
•daddy issues
•possessive and protective mmc
•single mom
•found family
•parental issues (addict father & abandonment)
•grief discussion
•mentions of dv
•activities/actions not suitable for 5wks postpartum
•discussions of (accidental?) non-concent
•baby daddy’s mom drama

Stowaway Whirlwind by May Alder – A Pregnant, Kinky, Truck-Stop Fairytale 🛻👶🏽🔥

Okay listen—if you’re wondering whether this book is worth your time, let me save you the debate: YES. Did it give exactly what Runaway Whirlwind gave? Not quite. But was it a five-star spicy, trope-stuffed, feel-it-in-your-gut ride? Absolutely.

This book had all my favorite tropes:
• ✅ Age gap (34 MMC / 19 FMC)
• ✅ Somnophilia
• ✅ Dub-con
• ✅ Breeding kink
• ✅ Teen pregnancy
• ✅ Daddy kink (no age play)
• ✅ Impact play
• ✅ Lactation kink
• ✅ Found family vibes
• ✅ “Mine now” energy
• ✅ Truck-stop labor & delivery drama 😭❤️

Now I’ve seen some reviews dragging this book for the heroine being too aggressive or the MMC being too soft. I disagree. May Alder knows how to write an emotionally complex situation and layer it with kink, caretaking, and tension. And Goldie? She’s been through hell. Pregnant, broke, abandoned, and still not afraid to bark back? I loved her for that. She felt real. She wasn’t perfect, but she wasn’t supposed to be.

This wasn’t about some polished dom-sub fantasy. This was about two broken people trying to do right by each other in the middle of absolute chaos—and it worked for me.

If you’re into taboo, emotional smut with grit and heart, Stowaway Whirlwind DELIVERS.
Five stars. Baby included. 👶🏽❤️‍🔥

This book started strong, but unfortunately, it lost its appeal as it went on. Honestly, it would have been better if the story had ended around the 25% mark.

One of the highlights for me was the first birth scene, which felt grounded and realistic. That part was well done and earned the 3 stars. I feel that most books by american authors do not portrait correctly what childbirth is and also never mention the aftermath.

However, the mc was a major letdown. He came across as having two completely different personalities that switched back and forth in thoughts and behavior. The story would have been far better if he had simply remained the sweet, supportive, and helpful character he initially appeared to be. The fmc would still have fallen for him, and their relationship would have felt far more believable and lovable.

As for the daddy-kink: it can absolutely work as sexy, when everyone involved genuinely wants it. In this case, though, it felt like it was an idea in the head of the mc, how also more or less pressured the fmc into going along with it. The whole "call me daddy" felt more uncomfortable than sexy to me.
