Hero Crowe’s Adventure School is the stuff of legends. Every year, aspiring heroes across the Overworld wait to see where the mysterious school will pop up this time. But before students can even make it to the front steps, they must pass a dangerous admissions test.

Belinda knows she can pass. She has to pass. She needs to prove to everyone (most of all herself) that she’s not a coward, and she is certain that winning the school’s glorious chest of rare, valuable items is the way to do it. She just needs to make sure she wins without revealing too much about her past.

Belinda has competition, though. She and countless other students are up against hair-raising mobs, secret rooms, and saboteurs, facing challenge after challenge as they battle their way through Hero Crowe’s unusual “lessons.” While some students think working together is the best strategy, others prefer the whole lone wolf thing. After all, Hero said there could be only one victor.

Navigating new friendships, rivalries, and plenty of danger, Belinda discovers just what it takes to be a hero. But in the end, will she win the prize and become the school’s one true hero?

I loved this book!

The way Hero Crowe changed/reveled his true identity at the end was very surprising! In fact, this whole book was surprising! I had a great time reading it! I suggest you read it, too.

One of the better Minecraft books in recent years. A good story that moves along nicely, with a little bit of suspense too. Sure, the whole friendship theme has been done to death, but it’s handled well here. You can see a lot of the plot twists coming from a mile away, but hey, it’s a children’s book after all.

Being a bit predictable doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable read, though. Sometimes a straightforward adventure that keeps things moving is all you need. There’s enough here to keep you interested, even if you’re probably a few steps ahead of the characters when it comes to figuring out what’s going to happen next.

The audiobook is high quality, as usual. Definitely worth recommending to any young Minecraft fans in your life. Could be a good one to read aloud together too.

So I found this book at Walmart and since I love Minecraft I just had to read it. I definitely wasn’t the target audience but I had so much fun reading it. It was a pretty short read but it kept me engaged the whole time and I felt like the characters were all really good. I liked that they all weren’t the same and each had their own flaws. Overall an excellent book.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Going in, I had low expectations, but it was an emotionally moving story about yearning for something more than you have, and for the approval of your parental figures.
The one thing I wish was different is the fact that the story ends with the four potentials all becoming apprentices to Hero Crowe. By the end of the book, Belinda and Jack had already gotten what they came for. Jack had made his parents proud and was becoming a successful adventurer. Belinda was trying to gain confidence and bravery so that she could find closure over the death of her father. Cel and Mara were the only two who really needed to get farther. In my opinion, it should've been Cel alone who got the apprenticeship. The true message could have been "The real prize was the friends we made along the way." Cel, Jack and Belinda could still go with Mara to Richton and help her save it.
