Perfect for fans of cozy LGBTQ+ romance like Heartstopper and Bloom, this slice-of-life rom-com by debut creator Moosopp is the sunshiny story of Marcus and Cog falling for each other.
They’re crushing, there’s chemistry, and they’re totally clueless.
Marcus has a crush, and Cog is completely unprepared for the hijinks that follow. Hopefully in their efforts to grow closer, they can brighten each other’s day.
It’s senior year and Marcus and Cog, two students from different friend groups, just started hanging out. Between Marcus making lunch for Cog, Cog walking Marcus home, and accidental paper-eating incidents, they start to see one another in a new light.
Marcus is a wholesome sweetheart and Cog is easily overwhelmed, so who knows how long it will take for either of them to confess their crush. But as long as Marcus and Cog get to spend time together, they don’t mind taking their time.
This volume collects episodes 1 to 52 of the endearing WEBTOON comic with almost 90 million reads, Daybreak.

THIS WAS SO CUTEEEEEE PLSSSSSSS. I only knocked off .5 cause i hate the cliffhanger it ends off on, but i know its not a real cliffhanger since i could just pay for webtoon and read the rest lol.
Marcus and Cog were so cute and it was so heartwarming to be able to see two black boys happy. UGHHERIFOJEWAFDJOEWIFOJE this was so good omg. The way its drawn, the way this flowsssss Cog in his bonnet???? I loved this omg.
If you read and loved Heartstopper, you will love this!!!
Daybreak by Moosop Release date: July 1st Omg they are so cute they had me giddy and missing when I had a crush on someone. Every little thing, detail and interaction was the whole world. This did not disappoint. Also the graphics are so pretty I’m obsessed 😍 Cog is a grumpy teddy bear and Marcus is a cute sunshiny cook. They are too cute, they had me giggling and feeling all lovey dovey. This was so cute 🥹 I NEED MORE I didn’t want it to end. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! They’re so cute!! My head may explode from the overwhelming amount of cute lovey dovey-ness that I just ingested into my bloodstream. This was absolutely perfect and so Heartstopper core that I may not survive!!!!
These boys are utterly adorable and I want to wrap them up, put them in pocket and savor every moment of this experience getting to know them. Until reading Volume 1, I hadn’t heard of Daybreak, but now it’s all I can think about. I don’t know if I can wait until Volume 2 comes out to see where their story goes. 😱🤯
3.5-4✨ Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC of Daybreak!!
I really enjoyed this graphic novel/comic book webtoon. The art style was soooo cute 🥰 that will make me stay to read a graphic novel forever. I love that the two main characters are black young men who feel authentic and real. I loved the representation with the side characters they were cute and seemed like real friends!!
The main gripe I have with the novel is that there weren’t many settings mainly school wearing the same thing over and over. I wanted more plot and things going on.
It left off at a place where I am excited to read the second volume. It’s another queer romance that I would add to my shelf. 📚
This entire story is just pure serotonin 😭😭😭 If you're looking for a cute &fluffy romance that will have you smiling and giggling non-stop YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!!
The art style was so so cute I can't get over it 😭 & the overall formatting of the graphic novel was simply amazing and made it super easy to follow the story without getting confused or anything, which is always an important factor for me when reading graphic novels. 🙂↕️ Also the diversity and rep were GREAT, honestly I have no notes at all this was everything 🥹
4.5 - Mini Book Review: Thank you SO much to Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the complimentary copy of the book!
This book is out now!
This book was SO SO cute!! This book gives you all those feels of being in high school and having a crush and not knowing if that other person feels the same way. I thought the author was smart in showing kind of an alter ego of the characters and as a reader it made it fun to see the two sides of them. Marcus even though he is a shy bunny really put himself out there by winning him over with food (Isn't there a quote the best way to someone's heart is by their stomach?). And Cog wasn't even phased by Marcus' sweet gestures. It was only when their friend Toma suggested that perhaps Marcus had a thing for them. I also loved how supportive Cog's family was! They cracked me up because it really did remind me of when there was any inkling of a crush, my parents would ask SO many questions! I do not know how many volumes this one is going to be but as most graphic novels do, this one left on a cliffhanger. I like that the author is giving Cog the space to figure themselves out. So I am anxious where the next volume is going to go for our couple!
This was too stinking cute! I loved the art style and how you could pick out the manga influences; it had excellent diversity (queer Black main characters, secondary characters who are POC, one character with vitiligo—maybe even dyslexia rep?); and I was giggling the whole time over how genuinely funny it was. Watching Marcus crush on Cog and then Cog crush on Marcus was a joy. As wonderful as some graphic novels and web comics are at depicting topics such as mental health and family drama, sometimes you just need a light, fluffy, feel-good read. My only notes are that I want to see more of the boys' friends and family, and that Cog's pronouns were sometimes unclear ("he" vs. "they" in the span of two speech bubbles).
Will definitely pick up the next volume!
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“Daybreak Volume One” is an absolute delight—a cozy, feel-good romance that radiates warmth and joy. Following Marcus, a sweet bisexual trans boy, and Cog, a flustered but lovable nonbinary Afro-Latinx gay, this story is full of adorable moments, slow-burn pining, and wholesome interactions. It’s so refreshing to see a Black queer love story centered on joy, offering the kind of comfort read that feels like a warm hug.
Moosopp’s artwork is stunning, perfectly capturing the tender romance and everyday moments that make Marcus and Cog’s dynamic so endearing. Their mutual pining and hilarious mishaps make this a perfect read for fans of “Heartstopper” and “Bloom”. With so much stress in the world, “Daybreak” is a much-needed breath of fresh air, celebrating queer love in the sweetest way.
This was such a sweet story! Both of the love interests were so wholesome and all of their interactions had me giggling and kicking my feet. It really felt like a sugar rush to read in the best way possible. I can’t wait to see how their relationship progresses in future volumes!
Daybreak Volume One is a really cute beginning to a high school love story between one grumpy non binary teen and a sunshine trans boy who slowly grow closer as Sunshine boy wants to cook meals for grumpy teen every now and then... It was sweet, fluffy, slice-of-life low angst, perfect prescription for a grumpy day.
This graphic novel is adorable! Wow! Both Cog and Marcus are so cute. I love a book featuring a non-binary character where their gender isn't a common topic of conversation. They are normal - like everyone else - and everyone isn't talking about their gender every five pages. Cog is just vibing and living their best life. I love the friendship Cog and Marcus have before there was any reference to romance. Their relationship is realistic and endearing.
I am disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Marcus's friends. The couple of moments they had together were genuine. I want to see more of their interactions going forward. It goes without saying - everyone is so supportive throughout the novel. After some of the books I've read recently, it was nice to fall into a happy queer book where the characters and the people around them are all supportive of one another. Speaking of friends, I could go either way on Toma, but I appreciate his inclusion. It was nice to see Cog interacting with friends and living his life outside of the main relationship.
Outside of the characters, the art style is one of my favorites. Every character looked different from the others. From different body types to the different clothes each character wore to express themselves. The design choices made the world feel real and like the characters were people you could meet on the street. The diversity of the characters doesn't feel cheeky or forced, but rather a representation of humanity today. Additionally, I enjoyed the incidental details the author includes around the dialogue. For example, the flowers change color depending on who was speaking or the different reactionary details.
The backgrounds were often plain, and I found them boring after some time. I want to feel more immersed in the world by knowing what was going on around the main characters. However, as this was originally a webcomic, I can't complain. The author does a great job focusing on character design rather than worrying about making every frame full of background details. The other note about the art style were the expressions. The author did not hold back when creating exaggerated expressions, and I love them. They add an element of humor outside of the jokes that I appreciate.
Overall, this was an adorable start to a high school romance series. I've always been a sucker for webcomics, and I love to see them getting the printed treatment. I will definitely be reaching for the next volume when it is released.
As for this volume, Daybreak Volume One will be available in stores near you on July 1, 2025. Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the opportunity to read an early copy. To catch up on this story now, you can read Daybreak on Webtoon.
Daybreak, Vol. 1 by Moosopp is an absolute gem—heartfelt, funny, and surprisingly profound. On the surface, it’s a charming slice-of-life comic about friendship, queer identity, and self-discovery, but beneath the humor and warmth lies a story that understands what it means to grow up and find your people.
Moosopp’s writing is sharp and sincere, balancing laugh-out-loud moments with quiet emotional depth. The characters feel instantly real—awkward, kind, chaotic, and full of heart—and their interactions capture that mix of comfort and vulnerability that defines close friendships. The dialogue sparkles, and the art style is expressive and inviting, with a soft, colorful palette that perfectly fits the story’s emotional tone.
What really stands out is how naturally the book weaves in themes of mental health, identity, and belonging without ever feeling heavy-handed. It’s tender and affirming, a celebration of chosen family and the small, everyday acts of care that make life worth living.
Daybreak, Vol. 1 is the kind of story that leaves you smiling through tears—a beautifully crafted, emotionally resonant debut that feels like a warm hug. I can’t wait to see where Moosopp takes these characters next.

Genre: YA Graphic Novel
The Catalog: Achillean, high school age MCs, first crush, friends to more, slice of life style comic, idiots in like
Spoiler-free Summary: Marcus has a crush on Cog, but they seem to be clueless about Marcus’ feelings. Until they aren’t and suddenly Marcus’ feelings are reciprocated in an adorably fumbly, achingly sweet, hilariously relatable series of events.
Thoughts: Daybreak is absolutely adorable and the characters are incredibly lovable and relatable in a way that makes me nostalgic for those fluttery feelings of a first crush. What a sweet and heartwarming queer love story!
Full of humor and kick-your-feet swoon, Marcus and Cog’s story is one of new romance and friendship. The author does a wonderful job of depicting feelings and humor, and I found myself totally in love with the art style. A beautiful story with beautiful art!
My one criticism is that it did feel as though this volume ended in a weird place, and that kind of disrupted the story.
This is absolutely perfect for fans of Heartstopper and Bloom!
Daybreak is a cute graphic novel about two friends from different peer groups slowly coming to the realization that they might have feelings for one another.
If was cute to see the friendship between Cog and Marcus. While Marcus seems a little more sure of his feelings for Cog it was cute to see their relationship develop across the pages. It is reminiscent of Heartstopper, and I think if you enjoyed that you will enjoy this as well! The illustrations were well done and very cute.
If you are looking for a cute lighthearted and fun read, I would absolutely recommend this. It was a nice bright spot in my day! Thank you to the publisher for providing an advanced readers copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is volume one of a Webtoon about 2 schoolmates. One character, Marcus, has an obvious crush on the other, Cog. The first volume is essentially Marcus doing things to express his affection for Cog and finding reasons to hang out with them more. As it progresses, Cog slowly (incredibly slowly) realizes Marcus' feelings.
I thought this was incredibly diverse. The art style is very, very cute and I loved how the expressions for the characters were depicted. Everyone shone in their own way and I even liked the side characters, too! I liked Cog's family, his friend Toma, and the little bit we saw of Marcus' godbrother. I laughed quite a few times and I loved how Cog's direct personality left Marcus stammering and flustered. It's a cute dynamic.
If you're looking for a quick, adorable, queer webtoon to read, this is definitely a recommend! I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.
Ahhhhhhh I love this webcomic and I'm so happy it's in a book form! The art is amazing and I love the diverse characters it's so refreshing to not have white cishet people as the main characters especially in a graphic novel. I also adore that these characters KNOW who they are and are just falling in love together, the fact that Cog uses They/He pronouns and it's never blatantly stated is top tier perfection. I've read this before on Webtoon and I'll read it again in any book form! I love reading Webtoons and I'm always so excited when they come out with books for them 5 stars Thank you Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group along with NetGalley for the e-ARC
Adorable, this was a slice of life high school romance with not one, but two black queer kids learning to awkwardly flirt.
Marcus absolutely is a smitten sweetheart from the very start. He’s tall, handsome, and has great hair. Con on the other hand is absolutely obliviously adorkable until he finally figures out he’s crushing on Marcus.the supporting characters are also fun and just as diverse (a headscarf wearing girl with vitiligo?! Ok girl I see you!
I do plan on checking out the next installment, but also hope there is a bit more direction latter in the series.
Thanks to Netgally for the ARC and ability to review.
This just felt really unfinished. There was little to not character development. I knew so little about any of the characters even after almost 300 pages. Why would I ship them when they don't really have personalities?
It looked like the author was trying to make it appear to take place in Japan. It has the same general school stuff and slice of life plot points as a manga, but it just didn't quiet feel right in that format. It was slower somehow.
I wasn't against the book, but it felt like there wasn't enough here to really be a hook. I will probably try book 2 in the hope there is a bit more substance for the characters.
Wow, Daybreak was a very endearing novel about two friends failing in love. I adored the book's art style and all of the cute moments, of which there were many. I really enjoyed how it initially seemed to be from Marcus' perspective and changed into Cog's as the book went on, giving you a good feel of the characters and their feelings. I can't wait for the second volume because that cliffhanger got me in a state of anticipation. Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers, for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This made me smile SO hard. The art style is adorable, all of the characters are unique and charming. There is no plot to this, and that's just fine. Follow our two sillies as they navigate school and crushes and yummy food. I blew through this so fast I had to go back and enjoy it all over again. Tooth-rottingly sweet and full of fluff. If you need a pick me up, Daybreak is perfect!
My thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Ive been reading this graphic novel for about a year now on WEBTOON and I was so excited to see it getting licensed. I literally screamed when this popped up on NetGalley cause I didn’t even know!! Cog and Marcus are my babies and seeing them again makes me so damn happy. This is one of my favorite series and I am biased in the fact that I love them so much. Marcus is the sweetest baby and Cog is so straight forward and shy. I love their dynamic. They are so flipping sweet together. Their friends are also pretty funny and I’m looking forward to when things progress a bit more and the story goes forward. I also just love seeing two black MCs having an adorable love story. I’m deff buying this in July because I want to support the hell out of it.
I’ve followed Moosopp’s work for a while now and I’m so excited that one of their series is getting physical copies! I love the art style, I love the characters, and I especially love how volume one ends. However, the one thing that kept throwing me off the whole book was why does Marcus have pointed ears and fangs… Anyway, please read this! It’s so cute!!
Quite literally the sweetest graphic novel I've ever read while also being funny, I was genuinely giggling and kicking my feet the whole time I was reading. This will definitely appeal to fans of heartstopper. The art style was amazing as well!
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Cute and gay! Made me smile and laugh, enjoyable! Wasn’t rating it too harshly because it was originally a webtoon comic or something (and you can tell in some of the comic frames that are a bit wonky in print). My only half ass complaint is that Cog is not a name for a human being lmao sorry not sorry.
