Cherry Peak #4

Stealing Sunshine

Rate this book
A sapphic, fake dating, small town romance from Amazon top 50 best selling author, Hannah Cowan.

It was always the plan to come back home to Cherry Peak. But after being gone for four years, it’s apparently not as easy as I expected for things to go back to the way they used to be.

Instead, they get beyond complicated the moment I realize my brother’s house has paper thin walls and a general lack of privacy. Desperate for someplace else to stay, I move in with one of my brother’s friends. The only problem with that? Bryce can’t stand me.

Everyone in town calls her the Ice Queen, and over the first few days of living with her, I begin to understand why. She’s blunt, broody, and even cruel at times. But when I learn she could use some help in the dating department, I offer mine without a second thought.

It’s supposed to be a harmless favour, but somewhere along the line, Bryce stops being the woman who barely tolerates me, and starts becoming the one person who understands me best. The walls of ice she’s built up around herself start to crack, and the more I get to know what lies behind it, the more I realize how wrong I’ve been about her this entire time.

She might be frosty to everyone else, but to me . . . I think she’s the warmest person I’ve ever known.

THIS WAS SO FREAKING GOOD!!!!

Are you kidding me? I was so excited to see that Hannah Cowan was writing a sapphic romance and it did not disappoint! This is a grumpy x sunshine and the characters were just so perfect for each other!? Bryce works for her parents and absolutely hates it, but her true passion is tattooing in her free time. Daisy moves back to town and is starting her new job as a teacher, but she quickly realizes she can't live with her brother because he keeps her up at night with....things you don't want to hear your brother doing. So her brother asks his friends if anyone has room for Daisy to stay with them until she finds a place, and Bryce is the only one. Daisy realizes Bryce's mom is setting her up on horrible dates and offers to fake date her as a thank you for letting her room with her and to get her mom off her back. Bryce, though, falls sooo hard for Daisy and does the CUTEST things for her!? Nothing like a grumpy heroine who is a total softy on the inside.

The tattoo scenes too!? The SPICY tattoo scene!??!?! Obsessed. I loved these characters, I loved their friend group, and I loved how hard Bryce and Daisy fell for each other. This saws the perfect roommates, fake dating sapphic romance and I can't wait to pick up more from Hannah Cowan now!!

BE STILL MY HEART THIS WAS SO GOOD.

bryce & daisy stole the show in this series for me. the yearning, the pining, the gestures, f*ing everything (rhoslc heather voice)!!!!!

daisy’s back in cherry peak to be close to her family after going to college hours away but she’s over living with her brother who’s in the honeymoon stage (but like twilight, break the bed honeymoon) of his relationship (in book 3). he, in a move only a sibling would do, asks all of his friends who can take his sister in like a stray cat. the lucky chosen one? bryce the grumpy, tattoo artist, ice queen who “hates” daisy. when daisy finds out bryce’s mom keeps setting her up on blind dates with men even though she has no interest in dating a man, a fake relationship is her proposal to pay bryce back for letting her take over her spare room.

bryce is one of my favorite ice queen mcs of all time 🥹 i felt so seen by the way she was sarcastic and quick to dismiss discussions of her feelings but was an acts of service queen and showed her love in so many actions. and daisy!!! never hesitated to stand up for bryce ever.

this also had one of the best and hottest hurt/comfort scenes ever 😩

i am so excited for single zaddy darren

This was absolutely charming and made me think of Spring Rainstorms and Sunshine sparkling on wet grass. The Grumpy Sunshine dynamic was written perfectly and I was smiling and had fuzzy feelings multiple times. I truly enjoyed Bryce and Daisy falling in love admid a Small Town scene that I already love.

I have only read about 5 Sapphic romances previously, so I wasn't sure how I'd like it. That's just facts, it's not usually my vibe. However, I've loved the previous two books in this series and I feel like the set up was so compelling, I had to dive in. This story has tropes I already love, like Best Friend's Sister, Fake Dating, Forced Proximity, and Secret Pining, so I was set up for success.

It also helped that this narrated delightfully by Andi Arndt and Kristen Dimercurio. They just sounded so good together! I listened to this all in one sitting and I stayed up til 2:15 am to finish, I just couldn't stop!

I highly recommend this book if you've read the previous books in the series, but even if you're a little bit nervous, I think this is a great book to take the chance on. I know it has me curious to try a few more and that is a great feeling to have!

Hated Bryce, Hated the side characters, disliked the writing, nicknames were extremely cringe, the reason why they were fake dating was stupid, Daisy was boring, for some reason felt like a hetero romance, you could tell this was written by someone who usually writes about straight couples.
No thank you, not for me.

There’s something about touching her like this that warms the innermost parts of myself, as if her sunshine is able to slip through the cracks and blind the darkness.

This was so cute and swoony! A perfect little f/f small town fake dating romance. It didn't blow me away, but it made me smile so much, and was so uncomplicatedly good and sexy. Maybe it's more of a 3.75, because there were a couple little things that irked me, but I still really liked it.

This is the fourth book in a series, but it reads perfectly well as a standalone if, like me, you wanted to skip to the sapphics. Bryce is a grumpy tattoo artist who works at the mayor's office to appease her parents. Daisy is a schoolteacher who recently moved back to town and needs a place to stay. Daisy thinks Bryce hates her, but Bryce has actually had feelings for her for the last three years. And look, no matter how many times I see that setup, it will always be one of my favourites. Bryce is a little bit of an ice princess, but honestly not that grumpy when it comes to Daisy. Or at least, she thaws relatively quickly, which I loved. They start off as roommates, and when Daisy finds out that Bryce's mother is constantly on her case, setting her up on a bunch of blind dates she has no interest in, Daisy offers to fake date her as thanks for the roommate situation. Aaaand they fall in love! This was just really sweet and simple and romantic. The setup itself is really fun, and I just love seeing a grumpy person with a love interest who makes them soft. Or at least, a little softer, in Bryce's case. I loved the part that tattoos played in this; every description of Bryce's ink was sooo swoony, and I loved the meaning attached to each of them. And of course, there ends up being new ink, which I won't spoil, but omg. I loved every single instance of it. The tattoos are what made this so emotional in the end, and bumped up my rating from a 3.5. This was also like, incredibly sexy. I was straight up giggling and kicking my feet. And the petnames made me smile so much??

The large friend group was really cute, but I have to admit, I did get a little lost with all the different names and relationships. That's probably not a problem most people would have, if they've read the entire series. And again, being a little lost with a few of the names didn't prevent me from understanding the book as a whole, and really enjoying it. The conflicts weren't my favourite (Bryce's mom was obnoxious in ways that seemed a little ridiculous, especially when it came to like, the fish and Bryce becoming ill), but I ended up liking the way it was handled in the end. There were a couple instances of unfortunately ciscentric language that isn't unique to this book, but was still jarring and disappointing to see.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Andi Arnt and Kristen DiMercurio, and I loved it! Both their voices were perfectly suited to the characters. I really enjoyed my time with this; it was a breeze to read, and just made me smile a lot. I hope the author writes more queer books in the future!

It was okay. I can see the appeal for many people, I just didn’t vibe with a lot of it.

The way it’s wrote is kind of odd at times. At some points I’d say cheesy and other times I’d say too fake.

I was kind of annoyed by the whole situation. I liked Bryce at first, but then she started to get weird? And kind of controlling I think, telling Daisy she can’t tell anyone then literally turns around and tells someone.

Suddenly it felt like I had missed a few chapters and they were bold with one another in a blink of an eye. And that’s where the book lost me a bit. Bryce was giving off possessive vibes that borderlines toxic. I’ve never been into the “my girl” thing, but I do understand that many people are into it, it’s just not my thing.

And what shocked me the most was getting the tattoos for each other, especially after just starting dating is a wild concept for me even as a heavily tattooed person myself. I do know all of my thoughts on these thoughts are 100% opinions, and still do understand why many people would like this book. It just wasn’t for me!

Hannah is one of my favorite authors and you may think I am biased since I truly love everything she offers to the world but I can’t not love this book and this story.

Everything about Bryce and Daisy was so well written. Their chemistry was perfect and their character development was, undoubtedly, one of my favorites in the series.

Bryce was an authentic and unique character that I truly believe a lot of people can relate to - with her “ice” personality and the way she tries not to be attached to anyone. I simply fell in love with her and I was so proud of who she became.

I am more of a Daisy person with her sunshine personality but getting to meet her better was GREAT - I loved how she stands by everyone that means something to her- that’s the kind of people I love.

As the previous books, there’s nothing like the friendship representations and the found family - I truly think Hannah nails this trope! Bryce and Poppy's talk made me sob and I wanted to cry because I can’t just call them and hang out!!

Long short story: another book I LOVE and ADORE from this series. She can do anything wrong, let me tell you.

I am counting the days to read book 5 - LITERALLY!!!

This is my first read of any Hannah Cowan work. I didn’t know any of the other characters going in, so I had some figuring out to do in terms of how everyone fit together. So Bryce. My god, Bryce’s pining over Daisy is amazing. She’s so vulnerable behind her grumpiness. She’s come by her issues honestly and now that she’s close to 30 it’s time she start taking some control of her life. It was a great part of this story.

Daisy is worth the pining. She’s just a delight and so good for Bryce. She’s just perfect for the grumpy/sunshine trope. She’s basically written as perfect. She never waivers and is as solid as a character can be. Soft and squishy but when needed, she stands up for her girl.

The ending felt a little rushed to me with the grand gestures and the main source of the conflict was a little too tropey for me. I don’t read contemporary straight romance, but I can tell that’s what the author primarily writes. The spice scenes could have been much more varied with a more WLW approach. I’m not taking about a slow burn, I mean the intimacy that lesbian romance brings to the table was missing for me in this book. I’d love, love, love for the author to write more FF romance.

This was my first Hannah Cowan book and I am OBSESSED. Hook, Line & Sinker!

Bryce and Daisy are the epitome of opposites attract. When fake feelings become real feelings the chemistry on the page between these two is undeniable.

Cowan’s foray into sapphic romance has me wanting a million more stories that embody the same authenticity and truth these characters delivered.

Full of heart and heat, I can’t wait to go back and read these rest of the books in this series.

Hot damn Hannah did it again .if you want to read more sapphic romance, this one will absolutely blow your mind!

Bryce and Daisy were everything I wanted and more! Fake dating will always be the superior trope, but when it’s forced proximity grumpy x sunshine and the grumpy one is secretly head over heels for the sunshine one, well I’m a damn puddle on the floor!

I still can’t decide if I loved Bryce or Daisy more, but I do. Know this might just be my favorite book Hannah has ever written.

☀️ Fake Dating
☀️ Grumpy x Sunshine
☀️ Forced Proximity / Roommates
☀️.Tattoo Artist / Teacher
☀️ So much pining

I love Bryce so much. She is a total hard shell but she has such a gooey inside and she showed it so well with Daisy. This whole setup was fantastic, Daisy needs a place to stay so Bryce gets volunteered to give up her spare room. Daisy think Bryce doesn’t like her, but then you get to Bryce’s POV and you realize how down bad she has it for Daisy.

Then Daisy proposes the fake date and OMG the tension. The longing. The secret tattoos. I loved every bit of these two figuring each other out. Watching Bryce absolutely melt for Daisy was just so so good.

This may be a slow burn, but when it burns…. It’s an inferno. And the tattoo parlor scene is imbedded in my brain forever.

Just everything about this made me happy and I will forever love Cherry Peak, these characters and this series! Now bring on Darren!

(Rounded up from 2.75)

It's always a good sign when you drop into the middle of a romance series and you can still understand what's going on and not get too bogged down in the many characters from past books making an appearance. That said, this book was fun and I enjoyed the rarely encountered "rottweiler girlfriend" concept but beyond that, I didn't really feel very invested in the characters or their story. The fake dating concept works best when you have clear boundaries between the fake dating and actual feelings and the tension is caused by them bleeding into each other as the ruse and time go on. In this one, I didn't feel that tension because there was really no reason these two couldn't just date for real anyway since there is no conflict, no trying to make someone else jealous or any other kind of stakes beyond "I cannot say no to my mother setting me up on blind dates with men", which seemed a bit of a weak justification for the fake dating to me.

Anyway, enjoyable enough and easy to get into even if you don't know a thing about the previous books in this series.

Okay I am convinced Hannah can do no wrong. I absolutely loved Daisy and Bryce. Book 4 is Hannah’s first sapphic romance and she nailed it.

These two were the definition of opposites attract. The fake dating aspect mixed in with forced proximity made the tension so thiccc. Loved seeing them develop a friendship and get to know one another and seeing a softer side to Bryce.
The tattoos, the secret pining, love codes, sunshine and frosty…🫠 I adore them!

I love this small town series with my whole heart and each book keeps getting better. Thank you Hannah and team for the eARC.

This is a small town sapphic romance which follows Daisy and Bryce ♥️✨. My second pride month read 👏🏾🙂

Daisy came back to Cherry Peak to become a teacher but there's no room enough in her brothers' house so it's decided she'll have to stay with Bryce🤭.

Bryce is a grumpy woman with an ice heart and a canvas of tattoos on her body who has secretly been in love with Daisy 🤭.

This book has the Fake dating trope and a very fierce slow burn 🤭✨🎀. This two were meant to be together 💖.

I'll be waiting on the last book because I'm curious about Delaney and Darren!!!!

🌼Fake dating
🌼grumpy tattoo artist/ sunshine
🌼Roommates
🌼Secret pining
🌼Small town romance

This was so stankin good! This is a grumpy/ sunshine romance with lots of humor, small town best friend dynamics with some angst and spice 😏

Daisy moves back to Cherry Peak to start her new teaching job and needs to place to stay. She’s staying with her twin brother but decides to look for somewhere else since he keeps her up ALL night doing things she doesn’t want to hear. Grumpy Bryce who has been nothing but rude to Daisy agrees to let her move in even though she’s low key had the biggest crush on Daisy. Bryce’s mom keeps setting her up on blind dates with dudes which she hates, so that’s where the fake dating comes in. Bryce hopes this will keep her mom from being annoying asf with the blind dates. They are awkward together at first as they are around their friends trying to keep up with the lie but as they slowly start to get to know each other, a lot changes quick. I would consider this a slow burn which I’m not a big fan of but the story flowed so nicely, I couldn’t stop reading. The angst, yearning and pining had me feeling every emotion! ❤️ they were so hot once they finally got together 🔥🔥

There’s some drama with Bryce mom who I couldn’t stand but I was glad to see her come around towards the end. This book was perfect! I will be rereading 😊

4.5 stars - I’m finally catching up with the Cherry Peak family! Bryce and Daisy were all the things I knew they would be, but even more! You knew from their eye connection in the previous book that their bond would be a deep one once they came into each other’s orbit, even if under the “fake dating” pretense. We knew Bryce from a distance but learning why she’s the way she is and how unhappy she’s been trying to please her family gave her character so much depth. Daisy was the perfect person for her because her positivity and steadfastness in encouraging Bryce to put herself and her dreams first was the kind of support Bryce had never had. All of their little moments (Bryce’s lunches, the tattoos, the caretaking) are what allowed their romance to grow and I ate it up. Their love was never fake, and subconsciously they both knew that from their beginning.

Of course, found family is my jam and the Cherry Peak folks are the best. I loved revisiting the other couples and seeing their support for Bryce/Daisy. The friendships are authentic (loved the Bryce/Darren duo), and getting to meet Shade was yet another intimate way to learn more about Bryce while also giving the reader a hint of a future series!

Bryce and Daisy… where do I start?
This two were adorable as hell and so freaking perfect for each other. I’ve never seen fake dating written like this before.

With the perfect tension, the perfect amount of jealousy (it kept things entertaining as hell mostly because both FMC’s were so oblivious to the real feelings in play), the perfect amount of swoon and the perfect amount of spice.

Bryce is literally a girlfriend for the people with acts of service as a love language. She was so attuned to Daisy and her needs, Daisy hardly had to want or lift a finger. Bryce was just always there to make her feel seen.

And Daisy, she made Bryce’s edges smother, she validated Bryce’s character and emotions, her communication skills were flawless and by the stars they needed that because Bryce was definitely not going to be the confrontational type😭

I didn’t really fall in love with the small town. Mostly bc idk those people (I’ve literally only read this book in the series) but I love the found family, I’m curious as hell about Bryce’s somewhat older brother/ bestfriend and his ex (hoping they get a book, it’ll eat down)

The pacing was beautiful, it was easy to follow and I say follow bc I listened to the audiobook.

Hands down my favourite book of this Cherry Peak series and one of my favourite Hannah Cowan couples! Bryce and Daisy were absolutely everything - I loved them!!

Daisy and Bryce end up as temporary roommates upon Daisy’s return to Cherry Peak. It is an unlikely pairing but they strike a deal to fake date to keep Bryce’s parents from setting her up on dates with finance bros. The secret pining in this book was the BEST surprise.

I am OBSESSED with these two, like the tension and innuendos between them were perfect. I loved how they established such a genuine friendship while getting to know each other, it really did feel like they were each other’s missing piece. The most absolutely perfect example of opposites attract. It was a pleasure getting to know Bryce more and piece together her personality from the prior books. I loved how Daisy bought out an absolute softness in Bryce.

A few memorable moments:
- Bryce’s tattoos. HOT
- Bryce’s friendship with Darren!
- They make playlists for each other!!!!!
- The TATTOO SHOP SCENE

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The tension, anticipation and secret pining really made this book and it was such a joy to read!

Thank you for the arc, Hannah!

Stealing Sunshine by Hannah Cowan
4.5 ⭐️ 2🌶️

it seemed right to let HC be my first ever sapphic romance. 🤭

Bryce and Daisy are the perfect mix of grumpy & sunshine if I’ve ever seen it!

We got to go back to Cherry Peak to know Johnny’s sister and Poppy/Anna’s bestie better than we did before.

Almost immediately I could see Bryce had layers I was ready to pull back one by one!!

This book was, dare I say, erotic. Incredibly sensual when it came down to the spice. I was positively sweating over here 🙈.

Their story was beautiful and I enjoyed seeing their 2 worlds collide!

3.25 stars. This was fine! The romance was solidly cute, but I wasn’t as invested as I hoped I would be.

So. this is coming from someone who semi-regularly says “fuck”…there are way too many “fuck”s in this book, and it got on my nerves.

Additionally, there was an instance of “boring brown eyes” to refer to one character, and an instance of “ugly dark-colored eyes” to refer to another character. Yeah, I get that those characters were boring and reprehensible respectively, but was it really necessary to slight darker colored eyes like this? Especially in a book where both protags have blue eyes…yeah, not a good look imo.

"i've always been able to express myself with art better than i ever could with words. and these tattoos, sunshine, the one on your thigh and my ankle and now my arm, they’re my love language. i could ink your name into every inch of my skin and still try to make room to keep going." ⊹₊⟡⋆

aw! this was such a sweet installment to this series. i've quite enjoyed this cherry peak series so far; the third book was a top tier 5 star read for me, so i have decently high expectations for the rest of the series!

this one was so close to being a 4 star read, but by the end of the book, i just felt like the plot wasn't as developed as it could have been, and that the fake dating trope wasn't executed as good as i wanted it to be. everything felt so low stakes in this, which is totally fine and i prefer that sometimes, but it felt like the fake dating trope was almost unnecessary lol. it was cute and provided entertainment for sure, but i'm picky about how the trope gets executed.

but besides that, i really enjoyed this book. bryce and daisy are polar opposites, but they can't help but find themselves drawn to the other. i loved daisy's character a lot, probably one of my favorites from this series so far! i loved her genuineness and her ability to stand up for those she loves. bryce has been a hit or miss character for me, but i appreciated getting more insight on her and her story, and i ended up really loving her character and the development she goes through.

overall, this was a really solid inclusion to the series! i thought that this was the last book for some reason, but the author definitely set up the fifth book within this story. not sure how i feel about the mmc, but i love a good angsty second chance romance and i really hope the next book delivers!

4.5/5 - Daisy returns to her hometown of Cherry Peak after four years away, only to find that her brother’s house offers no privacy. Desperate, she ends up moving in with Bryce, a friend of her brother. Bryce is known around town as “the ice queen.” Initially, Bryce doesn’t want her there, but she quickly warms to Daisy. When Daisy learns Bryce needs help dealing with her parents’ pressure about dating and marriage, she offers to fake date her. What begins as a favour turns into something more. Bryce’s icy walls begin to crack, revealing that beneath her brooding exterior is the warmest person Daisy has ever met.

Bryce and Daisy have the classic grumpy/sunshine dynamic, but Hannah Cowan executes it so well that it feels genuine. The fake-dating and roommate tropes add enjoyable tension to their relationship, while their slow-burn connection develops naturally. I was rooting for them the entire time.

What made this book stand out for me was the character development. Bryce’s guardedness was real, but so was her growth, while Daisy’s persistence and kindness gently broke through her tough exterior. I found myself hoping they’d find their way to each other.

One of my favourite parts was seeing the familiar faces from previous books. Returning to Cherry Peak made me feel like I was coming home. I love how the author highlighted the theme of found family. Every side character enriches the story without overshadowing the central romance.

In short: Stealing Sunshine is a clever, steamy, and truly heartwarming sapphic romance. It shines brightest when you least expect it and left me eager for more adventures in Cherry Peak and with its wonderful cast. If you’re a fan of grumpy and sunshine, fake-dating tension, and small-town charm with depth—give this one a try.
